  • In Episode #124, we start out in the rain from Carillon Lock and travel along the Ottawa River past Montebello. We enjoyed a peaceful anchorage near Clarence Island. Here we were staging for an early departure to get to the bottom of the flight of 8 locks to start the Rideau Canal in Ottawa.

    Very cool to watch the slo-mo rise up the massive lock!! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to being back in Ottawa.

      The Carillon Lock is a big one and the same change of height as the Peterborough Lift Lock! It’s literally an elevator for boats!😆 Thanks for watching Ruth!😎

    Great Video. So interesting to see how the shoreline of the Ottawa river has changed over time. Back in the day (for me at least) it was mostly farms. Looking forward to your Rideau Canal cruise.

      Thanks Gary! We’re excited to share one of our favourite waterways as we leisurely cruise along the Rideau Canal on our way to crossing our wake. Hope you’re enjoying Sydney! Thanks for watching😎

    I live in Ottawa and have seen the locks many time but not from a boats view. Really looking forward to the next Vlog to see the locks in action

      Hi Daniel and thanks for following along! Glad we can share the unique perspective from a boat with you. And we’re excited to share our journey up the flight locks as we start the Rideau Canal. 😎

    You went right past my house - where the four concrete pillars are in the water on your port (south) side. My house is gray with a green metal roof. I enjoy your videos.

    The music was fantastic as usual. The cruise was smooth and the lock was an engineering fear. 65 feet of water behind a gate would cause me to worry a little. Enjoy

      Glad you enjoyed the cruise on today’s episode Buck. That Carillon Lock was pretty intense! But the staff were great and it was great fun for us to be on the Ottawa River again. Thanks for watching 😎

    How much current was there in the Ottawa between the Carillon Dam and Ottawa?

    • @staycool123
      @staycool123  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi CaptJohn, at the time we cruised this part of the canal (first week of June), there was less than 1 knot of current against us. In the previous 2 weeks it was more significant due to spring run-off. Parks Canada kept the Carillon Lock closed until it settled down. Thanks for watching!😎
