Congrats from Oysterland and Stay Cool!
Thanks Rick & Susan! So nice to hear from you… hope you’re doing well!😎
You two have been the perfect travel guides. The scenes and sights and experiences just made it most enjoyable. Can't wait to see what the future brings and the west coast is an area we have least visited. A first class presentation by two super guides. Enjoy
You are too kind Buck!☺️ it’s fun for us to look back at the Great Loop segments… so many special memories. Can’t wait to share the West coast! Thanks for watching!😎
Congratulations. I love your laid back realistic attitudes. Great accomplishment.

First I want to say, I think the both of you are such a wonderful couple, obviously very good and wholesome people that has shown through with all your beautiful videos, so thank you very much for making those and all the hard work it takes to put those all together, so you did a fantastic job Rachel. And those will be a great family keepsake for many years to come . Looking forward to see what you guys are up to next and wish you the best of luck .❤
Going over at the statistics that you gave, it shows that your boat performed extremely well for the amount of fuel consumed. I would say above average. So you're due diligence in research to find a Great Loop boat paid off
Thank you so much Karen for your kind comments.💙 Stay Cool is an excellent looping vessel and she performed very well for us. Mainship has definitely proven to be a good choice for us and many other loopers. In a future episode, we'll give our honest review of how the Mainship 390 performed in our one-year journey. Thanks for watching!😎
Thank you for taking so much trouble making such an interesting and enjoyable series of videos. You should consider boating in Europe. Lots of Australian, N.Z. and U.S. people do. The languages are not a problem, for me anyway, I only speak English.
Glad you enjoyed our looping series Andrew! You read our minds… we are already considering boating in Europe as part of our retirement plans.👍🏻 So many options and so little time… Thanks for joining us Andrew!😎
Thanks
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching😎
Outstanding. Thank you.

Thanks for taking me along on your adventure of the Great Loop and the Bahamas. I enjoyed watching the year-long videos of the trip. Rachel, you did a fantastic job editing your videos. The scenery was beautiful, liked all of the excursions y'all made to little towns and cities along the way. Malcolm skippered Stay Cool like a pro! Y'all Stay Cool.....
Thanks so much TMac for your kind words!☺️ It’s always fun to read your comments and we’re glad you came along for this amazing journey! 😎

Hey Eileen! How cool we could loop through your home town.😊 Glad you enjoyed our adventure and thanks so much for following along. We appreciate it!😎
Thank you both for sharing your amazing adventure with us all. We recognized many waypoints on your travels from our past vacations.
You have inspired us to document our own adventure for family and friends as well. We will continue to follow your channel to witness your future adventures. Us Canadians love to travel…cheers
Hey Mike, it's neat when you recognize spots along the way. It's not too hard to document your travels... it just takes a lot of time in editing. Your family will appreciate it! Happy travels and thanks for following our channel!😎
Great summation of a long trip! A quick calculation of your stats highlight how well your boat performed, almost 7.5 mph and nearly 3.5 mpg! Your loop was not only a great follow-along adventure but, I very much enjoyed your unique perspectives, having to convert C to F to understand the temp and, your winter side trip was especially fascinating! Looking forward to your exploration of the NW region using British Columbia as a base while always staying cool!
It was hard to summarize this entire journey into a few thoughts! Stay Cool performed very well and we thoroughly enjoyed every aspect if the Great Loop including the challenges. We’re looking forward to sharing the Pacific Northwest, another special part of the world. Thanks so much for watching James!😎
Enjoyed that. I can't wait until I retire so I can do it.
Gary we highly recommend doing the Great Loop or something similar in retirement. Thanks for watching!😎
We loved this video! You guys summed it up perfectly - brought back some special memories. Actually, I would love to do the loop again - in segments and go to the Bahamas. Your pictures/videos are beautiful!
Hey thanks Lisa! The Great Loop was a fantastic experience and each one is truly unique. We have so many fond memories of looping with you.😊
As I said once before I greatly enjoyed HOW you did the videos. I watch a couple of other loopers and alot comment on the trip ( locking , anchoring etc. ) as did you but you often told us what things were you were passing which the others did less often. You made the "whole" experiance interesting.
Each presentation has something unique to offer. Our goal was to share the feeling of being on the water… something that is special to us. We’re glad you found our journey interesting John and thanks so much for joining us!😎
Could you provide some more thoughts on boat for the loop? Both in terms of your comfort and size, draft, performance, etc. for the loop. Other boats you’d consider?
The best boat for YOUR Great Loop adventure is a very personal choice, but there are some non-negotiable restrictions.
The lowest unavoidable fixed bridge on the Great Loop is 19.6’. If you can clear a 15' bridge, you can take the western part of the Erie Canal. The Lake Champlain route requires your boat to clear a 17' bridge.
Your boat’s draft should be less than 5’, but a smaller draft is preferable in shallower areas in the Atlantic ICW at low tide.
Your boat must be able to store enough fuel for a 200 mile range. There are also parts with strong current which uses more fuel.
Trawlers are slow but fuel efficient. The longer the boat, the higher the marina fees. Realistically a boat from 38-42’ is probably a good size for 2 people to safely manage but large enough to be relatively comfortable.
We like the Mainship but there are so many other options: Marine Trader, Albin, Monk, Grand Banks, Camano, Nordic Tug, Ranger Tug, American Tug, Sabre, Selene, Swift Beneteau, Fleming, Kadey-Krogen.
We will be giving an honest review of the Mainship 390 in a future episode. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!😎
great video. curious what are your favorite looper channels?
We don’t have a favourite looper channel… except Stay Cool 😜 LOL
We have interests in many areas including boating in the PNW and other forms of travel. The best way to find current looper channels is to search “Great Loop”. Thanks for watching!😃
You have to be really patient to do the Loop. It is very slow moving. I could never do it, but I admire the people who have.
The Great Loop is a great way to enjoy seeing parts of the continent from the water. Thanks for watching😎
I was surprised to learn that we're sort of neighbors - I thought your home base was in Ontario. We live in Bellingham, just south of you, and just retired last summer. I'm planning to purchase a boat in the next few years, likely Charter again before that (long wait for moorage). I'll be interested in your search and adventures. We have chartered out of Anacortes, but I've been looking at chartering through Nanimo Yacht Charters. They seem like a very good outfit and have several terrific boats available for cruises in the Gulf/San Juan Islands, Sunshine Coast, and Desolation. Thanks for sharing!!! Cheers.
Hey Todd, our home base used to be in Ontario but after visiting family out west for a couple of decades we decided to retire here and love it.😍 While we are searching for a boat, in the meantime we may also charter from Nanaimo. There is so much to explore! Thanks so much for following along and perhaps we’ll see you out on the water… enjoy your retirement!😎
Waving hello from Brockville Ont .Did you enjoy the Loop? What are the do’s and don’t on the Loop?
Hey Kim, yes we did complete the Great Loop! We have a whole series of videos showing our entire trip: th-cam.com/play/PL2kolAzASgqHSCYj1MTrawU2oNF0qx6sH.html&si=5B9tm4cYgi3RTcFA
And we gave our top tips here: th-cam.com/video/xDfKxwXxieU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=j13Y2t_6fQuvSr02
Hope this helps! And thanks for watching!😎
helpful. I am 56 and considering doing loop in a few years when my daughter ships off to college. Why don't you give some numbers. Boat cost, gas cost, other costs what you sold boat for. For reference.
Hey Dan, glad it was helpful. We outlined our looping costs in this episode: th-cam.com/video/xDfKxwXxieU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FlkT_Bm8oUONPwit
The cost of the boat is not included in the expenses and varies greatly depending on location and the market at that time. Also the choice of boat is very personal. Thanks for watching😎
Thank you for this!! I'm happy that you're happy!!
Little question: on one of your very first videos or maybe the video in which you talked about your solar, you said that your brother's company did the frame work and help you design the solar configuration.
Is that what your brother does for a living? Do you think that if someone ask; he can build one?
Thanks for your comment Leslie. Malcolm’s brother doesn’t do this for a living and does custom projects on the side for fun. He helped design and build the frame for the solar. Malcolm installed and designed the solar system itself. Because the boat is not square, the frame installation process was fairly complex. His professional services could be available for the right price!😉
wonderful couple
Thanks Paul… how sweet!
Thanks so much for watching!😎
What are your weather resources?
Hey Richard, we like to use NOAA, Weather Network, Windy, MyRadar, PredictWind, all good sources of weather information. Thanks for watching!😎
