Shane, I just wanted to tell you how much I really admire your roundhouse kick. It's beautiful. Literally, you're so careless when you let it go because you know it's perfected, but it's so smooth and powerful. I honestly am going to say it's the best roundhouse kick I've ever seen. I've never seen anyone, even in professional mixed martial arts perform the roundhouse kick so good.
Hey Shane, I really appreciate your approach to martial arts training; your emphasis on anti-bullying, and fighting only in self-defense is really inspiring in a time when MMA and similar fighting sports can glamorize violence in a way that appeals to people looking to intimidate others. I've been studying traditional martial arts for about 15 years (aikido, TKD, karate, capoeira mostly), and when UFC exploded on the scene and MMA gyms started popping up all over the place, one thing I noticed was that most of these places weren't teaching any of the philosophy behind the TMAs that they were including in their training. For me, these philosophies are integral in learning about the use of these martial arts, as well as how to avoid abusing these martial arts. It worried me that people could go into a gym and be taught elements of traditional martial training, while having virtually none of the psychological and spiritual training that is supposed to be taught in tandem with the fighting arts, elements of these traditional forms that are meant to instill humbleness, kindness, and a strong character. What are your thoughts on the accompanying philosophies, both mental and spiritual, in TMAs? And do you feel that there is more emphasis on them these days in MMA gyms? Do you think that fighters would benefit from more emphasis on the philosophical elements of martial arts, rather than just the martial training? Thanks, and keep up the good work!
fightTIPS Not a bad idea. And excellent idea with URBOX, btw! You're taking stuff that has been proven to be legit, along with mixing it with a fun and survival concept. And very motivating video for guys like me who may be getting a little older, but would still love to start doing a little bit of parkour type stuff and not worry about any weird looks I may get, and who definitely don't wanna slow down any time soon. Good luck to ya!

5:43 - 6:20 I cant help but totally agree with everything you said. Even if you would lose. You must not doubt yourself. That makes you better than most. While the no rules part was explained well too. Although that can turn into a disadvantage for some people
YES! The concept AMAZING! The name STELLAR! The new vid series COULDN'T ASK FOR MORE!! Seriously make Urban Boxing into a new thing please, it is so brilliant and Interesting and something fresh unlike mma Or Boxing. They're getting kind of stale to to some people, and this way it would rake in a lot of new fans to fighting and street awareness
I actually do this thing when going through a door as practice pretty much every time I use one. Push: when you have to push you go through the door and do something similar to a swim move in football (American football) to close the door behind you followed up with a side kick or throwing your body weight into the door in the event someone is close enough for you to use the door to attack them. Now they’ve been hit by the door being closed and there’s a door between you two which may or may not block their line of sight. They’re dazed and don’t know where the fuck you are... so it could be followed up with “pick a direct and run and turn a corner ASAP to get out of site so they can easily find you once exiting the door. Pull: unfortunately with a door you pull you cannot use it as a weapon to daze your pursuer(s). But this technique is simpler. You basically open it and swim move around the door to get around it faster and then grab the handle as so when you go through the door you pull is closed. Now there’s a door between you and your pursuer(s). But you have less time since you couldn’t use it to daze and confuse them, so it’s more important to cut the line of sight from outside the door quickly. My buddy’s and I used to do stuff like this regularly. One of our favorite things was reading books on ninja we got from the library. Most are 90% hilarious bullshit, but the 10% that isn’t complete shit is usually some kind of useful climbing techniques or drills to train for cutting your opponents line of site which I’ve personally found very useful in altercations over the years. Easier to avoid then if you know how to escape and avoid being seen and leaving traces of yourself.
Ya know, nothing against the name you chose to give it but I personally feel like "urban combat" or "urcom" for short would fit better and seem less like it's trying to limit itself
I love this and I couldn’t agree more. I’ve trained in various martial arts, I’ve done parkour all my life, and I’m also only 5’ 8” and weigh a whopping 130 lbs. A lot of people think they’d beat me in a fight, or rather they say they could knock me out. Well guess what? You’re probably right!… IF I’m stuck in a ring with you. Otherwise? Good luck. With a lifetime of martial arts training I’m hard to hit and hard to hold on to, at which point I can run away. Then between my lifetime of practicing parkour, and years of teaching it, I’m also very difficult to keep up with - let alone catch. At that point will it even be worth continuing to pursue me? Don’t get me wrong - it’s probably not gonna help me win any sport fights, and I’m not saying by any means that I’m some champion. My point is that I feel very comfortable in my ability to survive the first few seconds of any self defense situation and then run away. Self defense + parkour is a power combo for survival imo, especially for small guys like me. Loved the video, thanks!!
Hi Shane! I 've been training tiger-praying mantis kung fu since 99. I also had some Capoeira classes for half a year and the past year I am training boxing. I am also training parkour since 2000 and the reason is Jackie Chan's films. I had the same idea about mixing martial arts and parkour back in 2009. When I started trying it I was also throwing some strikes and then used a parkour move to overcome an obstacle next to me for the "flight" part. In order to truly combine them, start practising the parkour move adding a couple of strikes in the end and always pay attention to the flow of the moves. Eventually you'll get there. Keep on the good job you are doing! I'm following your channel! I am glad that other people exist who think in the same innovative way as me in the field of martial arts and parkour.
Yes it's like Jackie Chan style.nobody has really called those type of moves a style.but street fighting is everything goes . Just be the one that makes the rite moves and you live .God Bless
yo shane this martial art of yours is really cool its basically what i do i do parkour and training its jus like goku's i wish u go out with this and actually make it happen cause a lot fighters are athletic but dont know how to do parkour thank u very much shane for this great idea of yours ive been using this for a 2 years and im still 13 lol :) ps: your dog tho:P
Urban boxing would be so cool, it could be like those professional tag arenas but with padding so you dont crack your skull when getting KO'ed, and they could design the arena based on different situations
I actually started training parkour a year ago. I have been training MMA for a few years, I always figured I would defend myself with my MMA last, I would rather use parkour to escape. You never know when a guy could pull a knife or weapon from his pocket.
Mohican Star That shows youre not a true martial artist. We train to diffuse an altercation if possible. Wait until like you run into a gang of 5-10 guys who jump you lol! Lets see you call me that when I am healthy and untouched and youre in the hospital .
McGregor vs Mayweather was a good example why MMA fighters should be training in cardio. I mean even in MMA, it's still good to have that training. Yeah, it may be bad for your knees, but when you have to run away, it does you no good if you never train in it.
TechGuy1986 lots of MMA fighters have phenomenal conditioning. Look at Condit, Diaz brothers, etc. al have great cardio so saying MMA guys dont train cardio simply is un-true
The street fight mentality is actually pretty good...take Miyamoto Musashi for example... He killed a bunch of people with swords.. And he didn't really have the time to learn technique or refine his movements in that sort of way you learn in martial art gyms... He took what's best for him and what worked for him in those situations... He fought guys that had spears and was undersized some of the times... But he killed all of his opponents and died of lung cancer in what was a pretty old age at that time... My point is that you have to have that bloodlust and confidence if your going into a physical confrontation with a man that's trying to kill you... We are blessed nowadays that we have controlled environments in which we can train and become masters in our respective martial arts without constantly risking our life in a life/death situation... You're not going to simply accept that a bigger stronger guy is always going to win.. So don't misunderstand Shane here.. He's not trying to be cocky.. That's just how things sometimes work in these kind of situations.. ;)
On my oppinion it's a very good idea to say "Let's mix everything together!". I think there is not that much to add, because you sum all the good parts up. Because everything has to be trained (usually). The other part what you can actually add to your training is something like fighting with sticks(what if you have an umbrella?) or throwing stuff (dishes or stones ^^). My personal experience (because I used to do wkf karate) is that I got much better in my training since I watch shows and movies from people who do other martial arts and trained with friends who did boxing or something similar. I like your idea and I would like to see more of these videos.
I figured this out with my styles put together as well. I have a similar style to yours Shane, except with less experience and with Filipino martial arts. I live in Portland, Oregon, the weirdest and one of the craziest cities in the US. For now I skate around and use my one wheel as a way to escape or evade from situations (hopefully it would never happen while commuting). I’ve only then started picking up ways to fighting with improv weapons and simple free running techniques to get away. Love what you’re doing with these videos because they help people keep an open mind about what fighting is really all about. And that’s not fighting.
Guys quick question I've been a striker all my life I recently switched over to mma in hopes of making it a career my problem is whenever we have jujitsu i never seem to have the same drive and energy in training I find it boring but I know it's a very important part of mma so what do I do ?
David Lineman One of my main martial arts instructors tells me to be the best martial artist you can be you have train to be proficient in all aspects of martial arts (boxing, kicking, trapping grappling, etc), regardless if you like it or not. Train until you're proficient in whatever aspect you aren't and if you still don't like it, stop. At least you put in the work and now have a more complex understanding of combat. All aspects are important. For me, I think striking arts are way more fun than grappling arts. But grappling is so integral to combat that I am going to keep training until I feel confident in my fighting skill if I were to ever be taken down to the ground. Hope this helps.
Watch mma submission highlights on TH-cam right before you go to jiu jitsu training. That always makes me want to go do the badass techniques that I just watched. Bjj without strikes can be very boring to watch, but very fun to do... weird
spar a grapplers who are on par with you striking. It sounds like right now your confidence in your striking is destroying your minds ability to value grappling. I had the same issue until I first sparred a grappler. The guy had no hand or feet skill for striking but baited a round kick from me and got a knee bar. From then on I became obsessed with bjj and judo. Experiencing the effect of having your strength and agility negated by technique and position should get you revved up
Fight, Flight, or Freeze. There are three responses. Not meaning to be one of those "you got that wrong" a**holes, but I do think it's important because we need to know how we are wired to respond instinctively if we are to conquer it.
adam rushing - Very true. I searched for your comment and was going to say the same thing if you had not. -"Be better. Everything is a test!" -BleuQuill
It's a good thing to be aware of, and the training is what addresses freeze. That making things second nature, building a creative and quick thinking perception. The confidence that you know your toolbox at a glance really takes that reaction time down. Like when something catches fire and you get the 'happy feet' before running for a blanket, water, or the extinguisher.
Been following you for some time now and yet to see a video that hasn't given me the ambition to learn more. Keep it up dude, you inspire people to be a better version of themselves, at the same time keeping happiness at the core of everything you do. If you had a gym in Ireland I'd be the first man through the door! Two things though, and 1 leads into the other; you want urbox to be the ultimate form of self defence and I'd say you're nearly there, strike the opponent and get the hell out of there as quick as possible, with parkour techniques to get around any obstacles... but one aspect of getting into trouble on the street is being held, before you know it somebody could come from behind you and get you in a hold, or simply grab your arm from the front. I think if you want urbox to be the ultimate form of self defence you need to integrate some things like judo throws and simple wrist breaks. Which goes to my second point, the name urbox doesn't include anything about throws or breaks... urjubox has a nice ring to it 😂 keep up the vlog though 👍
Makes sense, the use of opportunistic weapons its not emphasized enough for the most part, and the flight part is complete separated from martial arts, its nice to hear someone about how they're one. Great idea :D
I'm excited about URBOX. Rather than just boast, you seem to take a more thoughtful/methodical approach with everything you do. And the fightTIPS gloves look pretty slick as well!
Good idea! What really burns a bully is "His Injuries" and the victim got away. If you check out the brown belts at Camp Pendleton you'll see a parallel style always being honed & their interested & ready for something new.
You know what dude if its in your heart to make urbox the most effective form of self defense then you work it, you drive it, you make it a reality and you dont let peoples opinions effective you. Keep up the videos, keep up the concept 🤙
Alwaysnumberr 1 I think he also meant a bit of that indirectly by invoking Jackie Chan. His fights lean heavily on improvised weapons and getting to advantageous ground.
I personally think your are onto something here, it is definitely worth exploring and putting into practice. As you know most martial arts are ring based or focused onto the striking aspect. All the best Shane 👍
yeah only a bit more basic and realistic, jackie chan has to rehearse those moves a million times. They are way too difficult for the average person. I like shanes idea, i have a brand new free running park nearby. Definately gonna try some stuff on it !!

fightTIPS I bet some urbox seminars would create a good buzz. I'd make the drive
but is that not just 52 blocks ?
the new phat dragon
Nope, because it isn't boxing based
It's Shane-Based and more parkour
Looking forward to some Urboxing on this channel.
how about an "martial art" where you train your mind for fights to become calmer and study your opponents like conor does
That's any and all martial arts -- it's up to the individual MARTIAL ARTIST to focus on these things.
Shane this blending of different arts is amazing, keep it up.
I like it, basically what I do in a street fight. Super cool Shane, market the shit out if this
360nohope my man, thank you for the positive feedback
fightTIPS Not a bad idea.
360nohope In a street fight make sure you are willing to do whatever it takes!
360nohope BAHAHAHAHA you have anime on your channel talking about “street fights” LOL
Nick F Hahahahahahahaha well a man can enjoy some good animation every now and then can't he? Also good job bro, feeling the need to validate yourself by checking out another commenter's channel and insulting him on his tastes in tv. Very mature of you
YES! This needs to be incorporated into krav maga/self defence based MMA
Maybe you should talk to some military special forces guys
Shane!! wow this is awesome i had never thought of it untill now but this is golden! I have been the "smaller guy" my whole life and was forced to get good at using my surrounding to create an even playing field with bigger guys and i was always able to run away while creating obsticles for the bigger guys! LOVE the idea, market this right and people will remember your name for a long time man! been with you sense you had like 120k subs!
5:43 - 6:20 I cant help but totally agree with everything you said. Even if you would lose. You must not doubt yourself. That makes you better than most. While the no rules part was explained well too. Although that can turn into a disadvantage for some people
You are a legend 😂
Lmao He made his own Spar Bar with a pool noodle and double end 😂😂
Haha right!
brandon marin It looks like it really works it helps on striking and defending.
Eternal Flame Of course! Didn't say it wouldn't, just looks like the spar bar lol
You created your own fight style? Well, this is something to be proud of.
ZomBroSki ! Man go to the Krav Maga Global and do some parkour in adition
are there places to learn parkour
One thing I love and respect about Shane is even at 1M subscribers still responding to subscribers, true role model
You Should Meet Up With DK YOO
They call him the 'reincarnation of Bruce Lee'
hes awesome
Shaykh_ubby XD I'd love to see that
You have a "Jeet Kune Do"way of thinking.
Ya know, nothing against the name you chose to give it but I personally feel like "urban combat" or "urcom" for short would fit better and seem less like it's trying to limit itself
Phillip Rodriguez Hart Urban Combat's already used by Emil Martirossian. It's a jkd variant.
Just be the one that makes the rite moves and you live .God Bless
yo shane this martial art of yours is really cool its basically what i do i do parkour and training its jus like goku's
i wish u go out with this and actually make it happen cause a lot fighters are athletic but dont know how to do
parkour thank u very much shane for this great idea of yours ive been using this for a 2 years and im still 13 lol :) ps: your dog tho:P
i wanna learn more about your Urban boxing. could you do more about it?
I have absolutely no training but your brand and videos have got me obsessed with boxing lately. Love your merch too!!
Urban boxing would be so cool, it could be like those professional tag arenas but with padding so you dont crack your skull when getting KO'ed, and they could design the arena based on different situations
This idea has been around for a long time specifically in Asian martial arts movies lol
Based Trill aka Jackie Chan Shit lol fighting while doing parkour.
Basketball and MMA. I Create Crossover punch.
I actually started training parkour a year ago. I have been training MMA for a few years, I always figured I would defend myself with my MMA last, I would rather use parkour to escape. You never know when a guy could pull a knife or weapon from his pocket.
Only pussies would escape from fighting ! I would murder a dude with his own knife or gun!
Mohican Star That shows youre not a true martial artist. We train to diffuse an altercation if possible. Wait until like you run into a gang of 5-10 guys who jump you lol!
Lets see you call me that when I am healthy and untouched and youre in the hospital .
Mohican Star okay kid
McGregor vs Mayweather was a good example why MMA fighters should be training in cardio. I mean even in MMA, it's still good to have that training. Yeah, it may be bad for your knees, but when you have to run away, it does you no good if you never train in it.
TechGuy1986 lots of MMA fighters have phenomenal conditioning. Look at Condit, Diaz brothers, etc. al have great cardio so saying MMA guys dont train cardio simply is un-true
Love the name. URBOX. It's catchy. And I enjoy both the martial arts and parkour. So your idea with combining the two is brilliant. Just brilliant.
Shane. You're legit my biggest inspiration man. You do parkour AND MMA? You're basically a ninja!
That's just how things sometimes work in these kind of situations.. ;)
Yes sir, thank you for sharing!
fightTIPS haha Shane.... bruh I'm younger than you why you calling me sir lol...
fightTIPS Say hi to Larkin... Been a fan for a long time..
I think boxing indicates too much hands only... but really dig the concept, just not the name :) Great idea :)
What gym can I learn urboxing at? 😁
Your local all female Yoga gym.
seantendo001 can't wait to see how that turns out 4 u
seantendo001
I want to go to an all female yoga class
Continue this pleeeeeaaasee!
Guys quick question I've been a striker all my life I recently switched over to mma in hopes of making it a career my problem is whenever we have jujitsu i never seem to have the same drive and energy in training I find it boring but I know it's a very important part of mma so what do I do ?
David Lineman One of my main martial arts instructors tells me to be the best martial artist you can be you have train to be proficient in all aspects of martial arts (boxing, kicking, trapping grappling,
etc), regardless if you like it or not.
Bjj without strikes can be very boring to watch, but very fun to do... weird
David Lineman look for a cute girl who's proficient in bjj to train with... ;)
Sparring is too much fun
spar a grapplers who are on par with you striking.
Love the idea Shane! Keep it coming.
adam rushing - Very true. I searched for your comment and was going to say the same thing if you had not. -"Be better. Everything is a test!" -BleuQuill
adam rushing h77gxw2
URBOX sounds good.
I'd love to get trained in urboxing dude!
Same but I live thousands of miles away from Shane 😑
FinJproductions I live in SA.
FinJproductions so I feel you
Haden Harris Saudi Arabia?
FinJproductions South Africa
This is exactly the same concept David Belle the creator of parkour has been preaching on
I'm excited about URBOX.
When he said parkour i feel in love
Sounds a bit like ninjutsu🤔
Yes!
Shhhh a secret
Sounds like a combat style similar to Daredevil's in the Netflix show
Urban ninjutsu :)
Can you please make a playlist on “Urbox” for tutorials. Please.
You know what dude if its in your heart to make urbox the most effective form of self defense then you work it, you drive it, you make it a reality and you dont let peoples opinions effective you. Keep up the videos, keep up the concept 🤙
Great concept. Your combat system is not just a MARTIAL Art, but very much alive. Great work.
It's more about exploit things in your environment to give you an advantage
Alwaysnumberr 1 I think he also meant a bit of that indirectly by invoking Jackie Chan. His fights lean heavily on improvised weapons and getting to advantageous ground.
Is it me or he looks like the guy from game of thrones
The Cat who? Theon?
Theon greyjoy 😂
Ser Loras?
I am in the year 2056 and UrBox is used in the military
Is that stupid PC bulshit still a thing? I hope they are quiet or ...dead
I like it. Everything is 100% fight and no flight. You can use flight as an advantage to give yourself an advantage in scenarios, as you showed.
I personally think your are onto something here, it is definitely worth exploring and putting into practice. As you know most martial arts are ring based or focused onto the striking aspect. All the best Shane 👍
Under 700 view sqaud🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Niiiice
So basically wat Jackie Chan does in movies?
yeah only a bit more basic and realistic, jackie chan has to rehearse those moves a million times. They are way too difficult for the average person. I like shanes idea, i have a brand new free running park nearby. Definately gonna try some stuff on it !!
Me: i will crated my own marital art!
Student:okay...what to do?
Me: mmm....punch
Student:what next..?
Me:mmm...punch again!
Student: that bullshit! give me back my money!
sounds legit
Vlogs are great. Love the concept you got with urbox, continue building it up. Got something going for yourself bro. Much love
I like the concept alot actually. Being part of the smaller martial artists standing at 5'4, urbox sounds like an ideal program for real life situations
Ninjutsu?
basel khalifa genjutsu
practice your roll a little more your going over your back too much
I love it!
Great concept! i hope to see more of this. I do love your channel. For someone so young you sure do know a lot about the practicalities of fighting. I'm guessing you started Martial Arts very young.
Woooah Shane throwing crisp combos with some venom behind it. You my hero!
carry a gun
start scraping when you start to lose pull the trigger & out
i call it shoot boxing
Nice 👍
Since your in the US, what about the incorporation of firearms
Gun Katas !
The US military already has a "martial art" that teaches the use of your rifle for striking. Look up pugil stick training.
Gun fu
Gun jutsu
I CAME AS FAST AS I CAME
Thanks for the support, buddy!
I love the vlog series bro. Its great! And the martial art idea sounds fantastic. You're right when you say many martial arts dont put the flight part into perspective. Looking forward to hearing more about Urbox
Another name suggestion: Urban Martial Arts (UMA). Thanks for all the awesome videos, Shane, and I hope this very creative idea of yours becomes the next big thing!
