    I would impulsively buy that awesome looking crayfish any day! What a beautiful tank you have. Great stuff.

    bought plants exceeding $100 & placed 1 in the tank to see what it does. it investigates that area, & immediately starts munching on the plants..i was like, Nope, took the plant right back out. it even unearths the root tabs, & makes the water cloudy and murky

    Great aquascape and brilliant idea with bamboo for a crayfish tank! Awesome work!!!

    Excellent tank, looks very nice!!!...
    I have crayfish aquariums for a long time... I have a couple of tips:
    The Crayfish are excellent escape artists. Be careful with the height of the diftwood, the filter, the bamboo, or anything you can climb, because they will do it and they will try to escape ... They have a kind of Houdini complex ...
    I don´t put many in your tank, maybe a couple more white procambarus clarikii looks very nice), because the Procambarus sometimes are very aggressive, and it is common that there is some cannibalism, the best thing to avoid is have a lot of space to keep separated, otherwise they spend the day hidden and you can not enjoy watching them.
    If you want to keep some fish with them guppy are a great option (if you dont have problem with living food), they will catch some, and be a good extra to their diet... But guppy reproduce very fast, which will always be more than the crayfish can eat ...
    I really love them, they are excellent pets !!! ;)
    Ps: Sorry if my English is a bit strange, I'm using a translator ... :)

      Matias, thank you for the great tips. I haven't thought about guppies, but will consider it. Crayfish are very interesting creatures and beautiful to watch and film!

      Hi PDFT and Matias, I also suggest guppies, they are gorgeous and energetic and multiply like crazy, and because I added a variety, my cross breeds are really cool. I have them in a planted 30 long with a pair of Bolivian Rams and they really do well. I know the rams snack on the babies from time to time, and so do the adult guppies. I use the tank as a plant nursery and the fish do well even though I am regularly planting, trimming and replanting. Guppies are low investment and high activity and colour.

    • @matiasherrero4201
      @matiasherrero4201 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Guppies are the great !!! Beautifulfish, and great living food... :P
      Crayfish don´t get the little guppies, just get the big ones... In my crayfish tanks there is only "young adults" and babies... When i have some very nice males y just get them out, and sometime females too...
      I forget.. Another GREAT living food/cleaning crew are ghost shrimp (i have "Palaemonetes argentinus", but "Macrobrachium lanchesteri" or any other kind of fresh water common shrimp will be good)...
      Both guppies and ghost shrimp can live in water for Procambarus Clarkii/Alleni (PH 7 to 9 / Gh 15 ) is not the best for guppies & shrimp but both reproduce a lot without problem and adapt to that conditions... :)
      Snails who become a plague will be a great food for your crayfish !!! :)

      That's great info guys, thank you! Guppies are on my list!

    It's ok. I made the same mistake. I got some blue cray fish and threw them into a planted aquarium. By the end of the week, they had eaten all of the plants and half of the java moss. They are voracious. I've found that adding algae wafers does seem to dissuade them from eating plants as much though. I've started introducing plants again but more as a treat, since I know they'll eat through them.

    • @cqstlupin6074

    Beautiful tank setup, its inspired me to try out the same design. I do have a couple concerns though, mixing species of crayfish can lead to death. The electric blue crayfish are much larger then the red ones and are likely to kill and eat their mates. Most prefer to keep them individually or one male and female to prevent accidents such as being seriously injured or death. I also suggest a lid for your tank because crayfish are known to be good escape artists. Good luck!

    Be careful about mixing different colored crayfish, because they can and will kill each other. Or even the same color too I’ve found in my experience.
    Personally I love the blue crayfish as my favorites. The red ones seem a bit more friendlier than the blues. But DO NOT put any crayfish with the white ones. Those are devils.

    Couple more things:
    They LOVE UNcured bacon. I found some at Walmart. You have to cut the fat off the lean and cut it in small pieces. They will take it directly from you and fight over it!
    Also, they love blanched spinach and java moss. I have overflow thanks of java moss and just drop handfulls in their tank.

      I totally disagree about "sick." This is one gorgeous tank. I keep some plants like the echinodorus in mine as well, but yours is beautiful. Just keep them well fed with algae wafers, shrimp pellets, and dried worm pellets and they will leave each other alone. Single pairs usually live together peacefully.

    Should of had some sand before the aquasacping8:00. so why did you drill the tank than added hob filter, but for water level. For a 75 gallon that would of been good for dwarf cichlid too. I would of kept the channel about breed and spawn discuss. Until you have enou gh discuss stock to pair for spawning .

    • @PlantedDiscusFishTank
      @PlantedDiscusFishTank  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have a sump ready...the hob will buy me time until I set up the sump. Yes many options for stocking...As you know, we have to be patient with discus...they could take a while to breed...but I do have discus topics that I have lined up until they spawn. Thanks for tuning in!

    • @upsidediy3945
      @upsidediy3945 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      At least that's a nice crayfish habitat. And you didn't break the glass.4:30 I would of used a block of wood and some sand water solution when drilling. I've gotten tips all of these aquarium channels. And drilling caves in rocks is a good one. Than there's the right soil which is pebbles than sand than more pebblles. Im thinking Sand starts to mold from lack of air pockets.

    I like the idea to put the bamboos in plastic bottle to avoid the extension of the roots and the plant have a substrate to grow , but I think this particular type of bamboo is like hydro-type plant. I saw it many times to grow in glass Vases, with only water inside! Do you believe that this plant has any effect in the ph of the aquarium ? I want to do the same project for a shrimp colony (obviously in a smaller tank)..

      You need a source for basic science? Lol...I hope that's a poor joke. Any rock with liquid trapped inside it is susceptible to exploding, as the moisture trapped inside will quickly expand and place pressure on the rock. Sometimes it might just crack, other times it'll explode.

    • @PlantedDiscusFishTank
      @PlantedDiscusFishTank  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think a solution would be to keep the water temperature just below boiling (212 F). I think you can do this by first getting the water to boil, then turning off the stove until boiling stops, then put the rocks in for 10 minutes. Remove the rocks and then repeat...may take a little longer, but should reduce any risk of explosions while disinfecting the hardscape. Spraying with H2O2 is an alternative.
