Hi MJ, love your setups! But errr.. not sure about this one for Sulawesis.. everything I’ve read and experience suggests these guys come from and are adapted to high ph, 7.5 to 8.5 With the aquasoil and co2, botanicals I’m think you’ll have a 6.5 kinda in there? Tds really doesn’t matter.. also temps should be at around 28C.. so it would be great to know the parameters of your friend, if his ph is just as low, then there’s hope a new, more resilient strain exists! So keep us up to date, I hope all goes well! Fingers crossed!
I agree with u Danny…. I’ve watched your Sulawesi vids and they were awesome
I've heard it's all about having harder water
@@emberframe6994 not really, mine multiplied just as well in 150- 170 tds (ro water plus sulawesi salt) as in 350 - 500 tds (tap water hardness galore 😅)
There is a hardened and resilient breed. 6.4 and perfectly fine.I know a guy in Pakistan breeding them and selling it to uae@@Danny-MOG
@@Danny-MOGmy tap water comes out about 50 tds. Is that an issue if I want to keep cardinal shrimp? I live in a rural Village and source my water directly from our well down at the paddy fields
I have bred these beautiful creatures about 6-7 years ago. One thing that I learned is they definitely require more alkaline water with higher PH levels. I was surprised when you add plant soil which would make your water acidic in time and lower PH levels. Also Co2 injection is something I am not really sure :). Without enough calcium and high ph levels, their shells will suffer and eventually shrimp will die.
Coral or Aragonite sand is highly suggested to buffer your water alkalinity and have enough calcium. I used to leave pebble stones under the sun to get grow algae to feed these shrimps and after several tries, I was successful breeding 100s of them.
There is a famous video from Chris Lukhaup where he recorded local Indonesian shrimp catchers. These shrimp loves Stoney ground and I found black lava rocks are amazing for them.
Good luck with your journey and I will definitely keep an eye on these.
How much did you start with and how long it took reach a hundred
Depending on your tank size it is recommended to have 10+@@nijad6257 Not easy to say when it reached 100s.
@@nijad6257 over a year. Started with 20
I had the same thoughts about the pH. I wonder if these shrimp survived.
Those shrimp are amazing. Looks like something you’d see in a marine tank.
I think the bamboo looks really cool, and those are really adorable shrimp!
The Jean Claude Vann dam of aquascaping with another great aquascape
I love the rocks in this scape. Those shrimp are adorable too.
love these .... but id definitely advise to keep it shrimp only . cant let other fish peck at baby sulawesis lol
could also keep 2 amanos with them
Tiny rasbora could look cool in the tank. Great build as always Mark!
Those shrimp are extremely beautiful! Tank looks awesome!
Oh wow! Those are gorgeous! Now I have to source them over here!!!
Rice fish would look nice in your beautiful acuascape
Great idea!
I need updates on those shrimps!! They look so cool!
Beautiful! The bamboo really makes a unique look!
I've always wanted to try these shrimp but apparently it's a really good idea to have a backup heater just in case.
This was a really cool little scape for them.
It would be cool to see you scape a dirted aquarium with a sand bed 😁 I set up a father fish style dirted tank but would love to see your ideas on how to make that type of setup beautiful 🙌🏽 you always do such great work!
That looks super cool. Just when I finished putting the hardscape design in my recent tank, this sparks my interest to have another tank.
Finally, a scape that is something close to home. Gonna try it in one of my next few projects. The shrimps are so cute. They look like they're wearing white gloves and you can actually see them picking food.
I have been excited for this one. Such cool looking shrimp. The bamboo forest works so well.
Happy you like it 😊
Great as always Mark! I was really skeptical about the bamboo, as I have only seen tacky layouts with it thusfar... but this is truly beautiful. Looks natural and creating depth with the small sticks in the back really works! 😊
Bamboo looks great! I have lots growing in my back garden so perhaps i could use some in a scape at some point. Great tank as always :)
Great scape, MJ! Love the bamboo and your rock and plant choices, not to mention those shrimp. Maybe a mix of rasboras, chili and exclamation point?
Those are some fantastic shrimps. I think the layout looks awesome. Probably one of my favourite nano builds from you.
The V shape of hardscape combined with Cabomba and myriophyllum creates a depth better than the regular stem plants can. I got the idea of using these type of plants after watching Steven Chong's IAPLC tank "looking glass of the maples"
Beautiful ! My dream tank.
Lovely ❤ I would consider using bamboo someday. Chilli rasbora would be lovely to put in too.
Great build! I think Red Neon Blue Eye Rainbow (Pseudomugil luminatus) would look great in there.
I love this. So wild and natural.
Super inspirational and amazing work MJ. How about a tiny red locus in the back? I can't imagine how it would look if we used old, rotten, broken and decaying bamboo instead of new ones and made it more mature.
love the shrimps and the bamboo its difference i like it
Those shrimp look so amazing
Freestyle is the best way to make it realistic
I think a small group of fish would be a nice addition. Looks great, nice work.
O tetra tucano ficaria lindo!!!! Parabéns!!!
red fish green scape is a pretty good idea too for future additions to the tank!
I've had an idea of using bamboo sticks in the past, but I never followed up on it. Setup looks great, so it's in the back of my mind again.
As for fish: yeah, thinking small Rasboras as well. Their size and their place in the tank just match with this setup.
This came out looking great!
I love your videos! For studying are super relaxing and love the final result! 😊
Very cool idea! I think chili rasboras would be great in this
Thanks MJ for not adding those lucky bamboos😂, half way through the video
You can add fish, will add movement to it, but again if you want crazy breeding let it be a shrimp tank, love this build 🎉
I got some as a gift and it's still hidden at the back of a fishtank years later It won't bloody die 😮
You're my favorite aquascape youtuber. Keep it up!
It looks simlpy wonderful 👏🏻
Nice one Mark, been using the wio stuff for a whole, elderly boulders still my favourite, nano and XL's, was thinking about the black venom or black lava, might opt for the venom now.
amazing shrimp love their white arms, I think a small group of chili rasboras would look great as well!
That's a beautiful shrimp.. 😊😊. Someday, I'll have some.. thanks for this video 🙂🙂 it keeps me inspired and happy 😅
Looks great man! I’ve tried bamboo but it was live and got too big haha. Keep up the tanks
Definitely add Chilis, beautiful scape btw 👍👌
AH ! i love this ! Great Job ! You almost created what i've had on my back-burner for a while now....and that is, playing with perspective. It's a lot trickier to successfully accomplish, but...once done, it's a true piece of art ! ( one suggestion...you don't have to use the botanical's in there natural size. You're creating a microcosm view of nature, so soak the leaves till they soften then take scissors and cut them up in different "diamond" sizes. Some species of leaves will curl up if dried again. Also think of those tiny dried leaves in the spice department or some grass clippings, anything tiny...this looks a lot more natural AND it won't cover any smaller plants.}
Owh wow this looks incredible mj, and im so jelous of your shrimp ive wanted them for so long! They look amazing in that scape, the added leaf litter just finished it off perfectly 👌
Looks great man. Well done.
Gorgeous
Great job here. Looks very nice....
Lovely scape. As you know I have an eye on Franks colony too 😜
thats the most amazing shrimp ive ever seen
That’s interesting, everything I’ve read and seen from people who keep these shrimp seem to suggest that it would be difficult to do so with plants due to the heat and high alkalinity they like. Almost all the setups I’ve seen just have rock (which is how their natural habitats looks) and a good amount of algae on the hardscape to help feed the shrimp
I've seen the same but It looks like the genetic lines in some areas are slowly getting a lot more adaptable which is really good to see.
I have these shrimps and thats what I do. Ive tried plants like pearl weed and have had reasonable success but I have read that they dont like acidic water so I was afraid to add plant substrate. Interested to see how they deal with it. The Cardinal sulawesi certainly have the most adaptability of all the sulawesi shrimp
@@Tigercg11I might give them a go sometime. Curious what the ones here are like. Might try a black lava rock and buce scape or something until I figure out how sensitive they are. They certainly are the most stunning shrimp species around.
VERY nicely done!
Very different and very nice and well executed!
It was a nice post, my friend, thank you for showing us this nice post.
Beautiful scape. I want to see how the red Cabomba goes. It is difficult for me, so I want to learn.
You should review fish tank aquascapes! Considering how good you are at it.
I think a group of Dario Dario will fit this Scape very well.
I Love this smal Fish :P they look cute and in this scape syle i think it will look nice :)
Incredible!
Hi MJ..Superb scape..I think it would have looked even better if those bamboo would have been covered with some moss..
Bravo 👏💜 🐠
You inspired me. 🥰 this will be my next project 😊
Great 👍😃 aquarium setup brother.. I'm from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳
Beautiful setup MJ! These Sulawesi white socks also been on my wish list for a long long time but it's so hard to get them here in the UK. I hope they thrive in your new tank. Did you use spetial salt for Sula shrimp to keep your pH above 8?
Looks great 😍
I really wanted to get that shrimps but my local store is always sold out and add galaxy rasboras nice set up 🔥
Bro is seasoning the substrate!(The shrimp look amazing)
Looks cool 😊
I think you should keep it shrimp only. The aquascape kind of makes you want to look closer at it and the lack of immediately noticable movement only adds to the intrigue
Amazing scape and shrimp! Rasboras might be a nice addition, but have you considered like 2 Vittina waigiensis? Nerite snails are awesome imo and they come from sulawesi :D
Just an idea add some Murdannia keisak and guppy grass for the bamboo forest look. Great scape sir
Cool idea!
Sulawesi type shrimps really beautiful..in my country they still expensive
I would argue that it would look more natural when the bamboo is slightly more straight.
Its a bit like our pine tree forrests in the Netherlands.
While competing for sun they all grow straight up.
Same goes for bamboo.
But it still looks really great
Nitpicking aside you did a great job and i love it.
Great looking scape and great looking shrimp. Love the bamboo and wanted to do some myself but I have been put off by stories that bamboo can rot really badly unless coated in varnish. Has your bamboo been treated in anyway?
those shrimp are really cool :)
Hey,
Een paar Potlood visjes aan de oppervlak zou cool zijn👍🏻
Super gave scape.
Some panda loaches would be cool too, fits the bamboo theme.
i could be wrong but dont loaches eat shrimp? ( specifically the babies)
I think a small group of 6 nano fish like the rasbora or diamond neon tetras would be a great addition.
shrimp only! and your aquascape looks just like a mini old forest with new growth coming up and the older trees (bamboo) are dying off and some have tipped over. kind of like a Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings scene! it's absolutely amazing 😂, I would LOVE to do an aquascape like that in a beautiful tank, but budget restrictions. Those rimless tanks and lights are pretty pricey. But I love watching you create pieces of underwater art!
Always interresting and nice
I think no Singapore Bamboo Shrimps in a bamboo tank is a missed opportunity, but I've always wanted Sulawesi shrimp as well. They are super fun to look at!
There are tailor made sulawesi shrimp salt products for remineralizing RO water for these guys. Typically these guys are kept at around 8.5 pH, although I'd ask for the specifics from your breeder, as it's almost always best practice to have conditions similar to the source. I hope your guys will start breeding, they are amazing shrimp.
Add a small school of celestial Pearl danios. Perfect for a nano tank.
wild betta!!!!
get the colony more established then yes add micro fish. Ideas: Least Killi, CPD, Dracula Minnow - Danionella Dracula or Dwarf Pencilfish - Nannostomus marginatus. these fish should be able the handle the higher PH and temp that these shrimp need.
I suggest you add some ricefish. You won't need a heater, they won't bother the shrimp and they stay at the top of the tank for the most part. Beautiful tank regardless...
I just realized that the shrimp need warmer water, so maybe ricefish won't work this time. 🤔
Wat een prachtige garnalen! wow
Maybe add some tiny raspora. But only like 10. Don't wanna distract from the amazingly beautiful shrimp
Great video! What kinds of super glues are safe? I have been watching all sorts of aquascaping videos for years and I am so afraid to use glue. I just can't help but imagine it will slowly leach toxins into the tank over time
Cyanoacrylate super glue (gel or liquid) is what most aquarists use. The gel is handy for glueing epiphytes as it sets quickly. Liquid dries slower but you’ll need cotton pads or kitchen towel/tissue paper between rocks and wood to create a stronger bond
Hi Mark, I love your scapes and would love to have sulawesi shrimp myself. I think rabbit snails are good with sulawesi shrimp as they benefit each other, I believe. If you are adding fish, maybe a few rice fish?
Edit: on second thoughts, Rice fish might not appreciate the higher temperatures that the sulawesi need!
Yes indeed; I was daydreaming, just a few weeks ago, about a tank with "dead" bamboo. I was also thinking about using them to hide tubings, skimer...
it's nice as it is. if you decide to add a fish to the bamboo aquascape then there's only one option: panda cory
Looks nice , i could be wrong but i heard a story that cabomba might be poisonous for shrimp when it gets trimmed in small aquariums.
Dwarf Emerald Rasboras? Not sure if they'll decimate shrimp fry like CPDs would, or else I'd say do CPDs. Like you said, any of the Bororas would be great!
wow, those shrimp are beautiful! i just looked online to see if they’re available in the US, and it looks like they’re the equivalent of €68 for a pack of just 5. i think I’m sticking to amanos and cherries for now. 😂
Yeah they are quite expensive 😁 that’s why it’s good to have friends in this hobby 😬
Çok güzel bir kurulum olmuş alg ile nasıl mücadele ediyorsun
Greetings from Indonesia !!
What are prices of Sulawesi White socks in Indonesia
Zonder vis ziet het er eigenlijk het mooiste uit. Maar als je perse vis wilt toevoegen dan zou ik voor Sundadanio Axelrodi's gaan.
