this would never be allowed today, but when I was in middle school my dad(chemist) came into to demonstrate dropping a block of potassium into water. It was a much larger piece than here and it was dropped from a string after he moved back about 50 feet. Fell into the bucket of water, spun around in flames for a few seconds, then exploded large enough to rattle the windows of the courtyard we were in. It was awesome.
In the first Chemistry Class in Community College they had 3 of us come up to put a piece into water. Mine was potassium. It was a lecture type classroom with stadium type seating slanting down towards the teacher. So, I dropped mine and it shot straight, way up to the ceiling and exploded like a firecracker. The professor then said that the chunk was bigger than it was supposed to be.
basically when sodium or potassium react with water they form their respective oxides which then dissolve in water to form their hydroxides while hydrogen gas is released as K and Na displace it form water. now this reaction is exothermic hence, heat is generated which burns the hydrogen gas .

Congrats for having the scientific mind to enjoy trying your very best to figure out what sensation you need to track to avoid squirting enough for a Coulomb explosion. 🎉
Bro those gloves with that hot slag makes me uncomfortable. I used to oxy-acetaline weld in high school and sometimes the molten metal would pop, I got a tiny spark sized piece of slag on top of my head and that shit hurt, now imagine those monster drops landing on your thumb. Those gloves won't protect shit 😅
Did the Pyrex glass break at the end? It sure sounded like it did. I’m a biochemist but I want his job. Unless someone can get me a job as a geochemist, I’ll take that too!
holding your breath is to chemistry, as squinting is to welding.
It doesn't really keep you safe, but it feels like it does.
@wooshifgay462 I come from the welding side. Squinting ain't gonna work under any circumstance.

😂😂😂 good call
He's got a NaK for this
that’s actually funny

So thats what they mean when they say your body turns nutrients into energy
Is the reaction any different if you were to throw either potassium or sodium metal into salt water (seawater)

Who else holds their breath in senarios like this online or in movies?
put some in those capsules what are water soluable. It's like timed detonation

Sodium and potassium are both solid at room temperature. I think this is rubidium (or caesium).

It’s nak
NaK is back baby!!! 🫏
What if you add magnesium ?
They looked like the fireballs in Mario for a sec
Which blob is Sodium and which blob is Potassium?
its a liquid alloy of them both mixed together. if you squash them around under some mineral oil then mix to create NaK.

this technique can be useful in making bombs that can be used in Water Wars. I think the navy might already be using this
They are not
What happens if you put that in an airtight container
Try having the stuff in the syringe but then also sucking up the water
What would happen if you injected it under the surface of the water?

If you take a large lake, and transmute all the water in that lake into NaK...
I never knew fireworks were made from sodium and pottasium.
So wait what happens when we combine these metals that react with water???
Fire crackers were invented in 1792, people before 1792:
