there's cultural thing in japan that states something like "when old wounds are reopened that person's mind is struggling" (basically PTSD). Kaido's wound is figuratively and literally a demonstration of that.
I like that the 9 scabbards aren't push overs, they are Odens retainers after all, also, the world is a big place, of course there will be great talented people that aren't famous, this (like many other things) shows that the world outside the straw hats also matter, there are strong people out there doing their own stuff.
Example, Fujitora and Ryokyogu. there were admiral caliber individuals in the world we never knew about.
I don't question their strength but Kaido has not revert to oni form to bust out the Thunder Baguga. At that point it will be a scabbard wack a mole.
Have people forgotten Whitebeard took countless bullets, cannon balls and wounds during the war of the best? Strong characters can take damage, especially from a group with very renown fighters: Ashura (who Kaido commented was strong), Denjiro, and a Sulong Neko and Inuarashi who are giving it their all. I wouldn't be surprised if these four are almost Admiral tier. People put too much stock in "immortal Kaido" legend; those types of exaggerations have been around since East Blue.
That said, this is certainly their time to shine, Kaido will counterattack soon.
A persons mindset and will affects their haki immensely, Kaido has been shown many times in the last few chapters to have inner turmoil through is inner monologue. On the other hand the scabbards mindset and will are focused on one single thing, killing kaido.
The world is a big place is a understatement the one piece world is as big or bigger than our sun

Speaking in DnD terms, all of this has been the Scabbards spending their once per long rest abilities. Narratively speaking, they have already used their best tricks one after the other to counter all of Kaido's attacks.
I am starting to think this will be treated as a mini character arc for Kaido, him toughing up against his ego and fear of Oden and losing, and just accepting that he needs to put down the Dragon God act and just beat up the Scabbards as he would beat up a fellow Yonko crew (cause from some prespective you could say the Scabbards are now an ally crew/army of Luffy, which ties back to his "fifth yonko" thing)

It's pretty clear to me kaidous greatest strength is in his Kananbo skills. So once he has that in his hands, no matter what form he takes. He's going to pretty much have the upper hand. If you're a bleach fan and been with tekking since the bleach days, it feels like when kenpachi decides to use two hands on his sword to do a single strike channeling more power
I think that is a really good point. To me it feels like all of this might make him go, "Shit, I really let myself loose" and kinda go back to his older "fight for the sake of fighting" days. We don't know if that is something that he liked to do but, eh, probably? I also suspect that a twist might be that his human form is stronger, something that would make sense if he is indeed a dragon who ate an oni fruit.
If anything, I am actually not that mad at Kaido getting a beating given that 1) Scabbards used all of their trump cards and 2) It does not make Kaido look weak but it does make Scabbards look strong. I mean, those are 9 amazing top-tier fighters: it would be odd if they couldn't hurt him.
theres also the fact that this is something the scabbards have been planning for 20 years, they aren't going into this ill prepared they clearly know what kaido is capable of.
The scabbards are living up to their name. Even Akainu said that the samurais of Wano are a force to be reckoned with, and I don’t think it goes just for the scabbards. Kaido not doing anything “impressive” yet could also be explained with the fact that he is in shock, and that Oden came back to haunt him in the form of the scabbards. Once Kaido pulls himself together it won’t look so good for the scabbards anymore. But I find it great that Oda gives them the time to shine and uses the scabbards to showcase ryou through them as well and not only Luffy. Everyone who complains has either issues with reading or is being stubborn with his own head canon of how Wano should play out.

@@maxthommesen9315 you know that they couldn’t go all out just like that. They were undercover. Raizo showcased some of his ninja techniques but of course he wouldn’t show his trumpcard. Also, they are putting everything in this fight which gives them motivation. It’s not that they will defeat Kaido.
@@maxthommesen9315 Don't forget that the Scabbards have been taking damage on offense. This is probably reminiscent of Enma itself where it drains the user's life force to cut much much more... or even Luffy's Gear 3 where it reduces his lifespan to dish out more damage.
I personally think Oda is applying this same concept to the Scabbards, that they are exchanging their literal life and willpower for more power. This would explain why they couldn't (or didn't) do this at any point sooner - They needed their life force to accomplish their real mission, not some side story or mission.
Oda plays with similar concepts with Pedro and Big Mom's Devil Fruit.

I feel like people who are upset about the power scaling aren't taking into account the teamwork.
Kaido is surrounded half the time and everytime he almost gets a shot in on someone, another scabbard stabs him.
It's not a powescaling problem, the scabbards are just employing good tactics.

Typically the ability to not stagger is considered a buff.
Players that rely on this type of ability are typically overwelmed if you make them stagger.
Thats kaido right now. He's a tank player being staggered and he can't process how to deal with it. The action economy is helping to.
He can usually ignore such complex teamwork, but not in this occassion.

People are acting like kaido has been getting beat up for hours now.
But they ignore that at most this battle has been going on for around 5 minutes in real time.
Being on the losing end is perfectly normal for a guy who entered the fight after being jumped nine times.
Even a yonko.
Most of the damage dealt to whitebeard at marineford was dealt when he was unable to defend himself.
This is how you deal with a yonko.
I dont think they'll kill him but he's definitely gonna be feeling that against whomever finishes the job at the end of this arc.
Big Mom was like "Nobody is watching.. I can act like a Yonko again.. oh hi Marco"
I think once Kaido goes back to his human form the Scabbard are going to start struggling. I think many overestimated Kaido's dragon form. I personally think Kaido is having bad Ptsd from Oden and figures out it's all in his head.
I always thought the main advantage to the Dragon form was flight and fire breath. The body is too big and awkward for a lot of fighting.

With black maria playing that instrument it feels like we are coming to the end of act and that means there will be a tragedy and I just cannot see all the scabbards making it out alive but we will see!
I actually thought it was meant to accompany the fight and when we see Hiyori play in the chapter, no mask on, we will see the scabbards fall - might lead up to her revealing herself. I think if the scabbards are to fall, it would makes sense she is playing music.
The Scabbards have been show to be as strong as yonko commanders time and time again, and maybe even stronger since sou-long and the fact that this is a do or die situation. This is literally what the been training 20 years to do.

Half of them jumped 20 years with no training and could do this damage. They should have attacked kaido with oden if people like kinemon and kiku could damage him back then.
@@OfficiallyMagic even 20 years ago the Scabbards were shown to be able to take on the entirety of Kido's army (and also somewhat damage Kaido himself) all on their own.
Right now, it's 9 vs. 1, Kido's dragon form is a big fuck off target and his struggling mentally.

exactly! Orochi admitted that 20 years ago he couldn't do anything against Oden and the Scabbards even with Kaido's help. They needed time.
Also I am tired of people considering side characters as scrubs all the time. Why can't other characters be strong!?

If Kaido is gonna reverse this situation, he's gotta have the flashback boost. The scabbards have already used up theirs.

I think Kaido's dragon form is actually his weakest form and that's why I'm every battle we have seen so far (that I remember) he starts in his dragon form and when he gets more serious he turn into his other form.

@@Broockle sorta am, but most zoan devil fruit users fight like that, they start with their weakest form, then they change to another form and at the end they change into their hybrid form which is their strongest. And not just zona most fight are like that you don't see luffy using gear 4 at the beginning (except when he is is a hurry).

His Dragon form isn't "weaker" than his humanoid form. Boro Breath can level a whole island from far away, that's not something Kaido can do without the Dragonform.
A strong Zoan user usually knows when to change shape to best make use of their powers.

love this video so far, i dont get some of that negativity regarding this chapter. we clearly hadnt seen much of the scabbards up to this point. even raizo was purposely not doing much before this, none of em were. im totally fine with all this and love it :D and of course kaido can just get up and one shot them like nothing happened. also, i dont think kaido running away or flying is the point of the fight, he wanted to test them and see what they were made of, according to his last words in 991
I think the problem everyone has is that the scabbards are just blocking his attacks left and right. And how many hits they got off him, i think most wanted luffy/law/kid/zoro to do the damage to him. That and to the fans it feels like alot of hype of kaido being an unbeatable force, just to see them injuring him left and right.
@@romram7984 they didnt block anything, all kaido did was 2 boro breathes, , in 991 he said lets how many boro breathes you can handle, he was testing them and partially not even taking them seriously, of course hes gonna be surprised. and he swatted people like kawamatsu completely away with an arm swing. please have a look thru the last 2 chaps its actually quite interesting, also i doubt its "everyone" just a small minority who have this problem, but yeah. this doesnt mean at all kaido is anywhere close to finished anyway, even after oden slashed him he got up and one shot oden, and it took 4 scabbards to equal 1 oden scar. i dont understand why anyone is worried at all lol this war is far from over and all those characters you mentioned will still have their chance to shine. kaido was said by the narrator to have lost 7 times and been captured 18 times, its fan's own inflicted headcanon that he's unbeatable
@@genep9302 well i said everyone but yeah you are right, and yeah i forgot he did lose tbh. Captures though, i think most were probably due to him just turning himself in though. I don't doubt the marines strength isn't good enough to capture him. I just think he probably allowed most of them due to his nature.
Most act like he's invincible so i just took it as fact. But yeah i'm hoping to see more from kaido in terms of strength. I'm happy that the scabbards are getting their chances to strike since till now we didn't get to see how strong they were, its honestly really exciting to finally be at where we are in the story since awhile back it felt like the war wasn't going to happen for quite along time.
In the end I can't wait to see how all this goes down
@@romram7984 yeah i completely agree there, and i could kinda get if people are confused by this chapter a bit, but i think once we get more chapters everything will make a lot more sense, and now were finally at the point where fights arent offscreened so yeah cant wait either!

I don't think Kaido really comes off weak here, personally. Yes, he's not really getting room to breathe and is getting tirelessly beaten by the scabbards... But that's because the scabbards have clearly planned for this and are spending all of their trump cards to stop him from doing anything, because they know that if they don't, if they give him that one moment to get a proper counterattack through, the match would be over.
I don't see this as Kaido being weaker than expected and getting overwhelmed, I see this as the scabbards desperately using their everything to overwhelm him, because they know that the overwhelming power difference will wipe them out if Kaido gains an even standing.

@@kevvin5030 Even though it was an anime event only, you are correct.
That’s how I see it too. Kaido hasn’t gotten the chance to go all out yet because all of the scabbards are using their most powerful moves. But kaido’s a tank. Chances are he’s gonna be able to get back up from this, injured but mostly ok, and the scabbards aren’t gonna be able to land their most powerful attacks anymore because Kaido knows them. They’re using alot of their cards in the beginning of the battle, while Kaido has yet to show his hand. I’m guessing it’s gonna turn around next chapter, but we’ll see. Ig it’s not entirely impossible that the scabbards are actually kicking his ass.
Also I would like to point out it's like people have forgotten the fact that when we were introduced to the character of kaido they specifically talked about how many times he has been beaten over and over again hes been captured over and over again hes just impossible that kill the man just gets backup

Hearing the name of Izzo’s ability makes me think monster hunter, where the “slicing” bullets have a delayed effect, where the initial hit does next to nothing but then it basically explodes into something that slices up the monster. It’s usually pretty effective.

You should do one of those trending iceberg explained videos but for one piece, of course as the video progresses the topics get more darker and scary.
The Kuja tribe uses haki on arrows and it remains until it hits the target, so I don't see why Izo wouldn't be able to use it on the bullets he fires. But Oda drawing some specially designed bullets for him as a former yonko commander would be nice, too

Kaido's introduction that caused a lot of hype was like an introduction to a legend. Well I have some news for you. Not everything in a legend end to be true or are exactly as they told.

His introduction even says that he has lost 7 times as a pirate and when people quote it they are always like if its one on one bet on Kaido but ignore the very next part. "Thats what people say." Which meas it isn't some fact its what the world of op believes

Raizo just reflected Kaido's own attack. So technically Kaido can hurt himself.
None of this bothers me I'm just along for the ride at this point. Every expectation and prediction I had before the fighting started has been shattered and getting upset that it doesn't match your head cannon is a waste.

@@FryedPidgey I think the biggest issue is that people see kaido as frieza that he's absolutely invincible to everyone and everything except the main character who has some ass pull transformation in his back pocket. This isn't dragonball it doesn't have to follow the same format.

I still enjoy speculating and making head canon, but I have a high suspension of disbelief threshold so any changes are a "feasible until proven not" scenario.
Oda's story usually makes sense by its own logic, and really, that's the only logic that matters.

Izo should use seastone bullets. I know story wise is not entertaining however it should be feasible.
Polanreff from JoJo can cut fire because his stand cuts the air fast enough that it creates airless holes, fire needs oxygen to burn so if they cut fast enough there is no oxygen for the fire to burn. That’s my theory on why Kinemon can cut fire

Let's be honest. The scabbards needed to put up a good fight to not be completely irrelevant in this war
I honestly expect Kaido to turn into an awakened zoan at some point. We've not seen Kaido, King, Queen, or Jack turn into their awakened forms yet, and it's been a while since we've seen Chopper do it too. Thingsll probably get alot crazier at some point.

People who are disappointed are confused about Kaidos inner dialogue. He is talking to himself in a puzzled self reflective way but people think he is frightened or worried.
I don't know if you touched upon this but have you heard of ishikawa goemon because one of his storys is that he and his son were sentenced to death by boiling oil and he wanted to protect his son so he held him over his head like oden I feel like that was already said but just to put that out there.
I love how even though tekking knows everything and has been doing this for years he still gives off the feeling of a passionate kid with a camera

I now get the feeling Kaido was recognized as a Yonkou by being captured drunk and just boro breathing specifically marines but other enemies too on multiple occasions. At God Valley Garp smacked a boy and all he could do since was Cry, Drink, and Spit.
I'm hoping Raizo has the Scroll Scroll no Mi. He can create scrolls that are able to seal and store anything. . . Including a giant dragon hyper beam😂
- I love the theory that the Scabbards are able to hurt Kaido because they're using Ryo Haki. Oden didn't teach them how to use it properly so it's literally killing them as well
- I figured Izo was coating his bullets in Haki like the Kuja and their arrows
I feel like you're forgetting you can enhance objects with haki, and they stay enhanced even after you're no longer holding him (arrows on Amazon Lilly being the first and main example). Then there's Ryuo which can emit haki beyond your body without a medium. So are Ryuo-imbued bullets possible, and can that be what Izo is using? What about just normal haki used in a special way (only enhancing a blade-shaped part inside a bullet)?

Who could actually be dissapointed by the fight. Its been said a million times to not underestimate the scabbards and its been clearly shown that Kaido has something like ptsd and is weakened like Big Mom with Mother Caramel.
Yet people still claim this is dumb.
Even still at the end of the day yaknow Kaido is still gonna win this fight for sure so just enjoy the show while the scabbards are kicking ass.

The scabbard's decades of pent up feeling gains nothing would be an utter mockery to the great name of oden. The why would oden be written at all if hisbexistence is pointless...
A lot of people believe Kaido is THE strongest Yonko. IDK why, there has never been anything that says he is. Big Mom respects his strength, but that isn't any evidence of him being stronger, Blackbeard is there series big villain so I dont get that one at all, and Shanks is a former member if the Roger crew and the main character's mentor, I can't really see Kaido as stronger than Shanks either.
@@t.c.thompson2359 I'll be fair, I think Kaido is the strongest character in One Piece due to being the "strongest creature" and "if its 1v1 bet on Kaido" , but that doesn't mean he can't be defeated he's been defeated like what 11 times before, I doubt he was defeated by 1 person each of those times, it was probably him getting ganged up on by a group of decently strong people like now.
When Kaido is done messing around with the scabbards he’s gonna transform into his Hybrid form and reveal his fruit name.

@@alfredhinton8792 IDK. But personally, I think Kaido is a dragon.
Maybe he ate an Oni fruit or something like that then He'd have an hybrid form, which isn't the most powerful form, but it's often the most balanced form and the most suited to fight the protagonists (Because their strenght is speed/numbers and not brute force)
. Or maybe he can just transform into a hyman form as a natural dragon ability. Then he doesn't have a Hybrid Form. But maybe he's got something else up his sleeve.
I think Kaido is weaker in his dragon form. Thats why we see him fight BM in his human form.
But he goes into his dragon form for intimidation purpose.
Matt, there's theories going around saying that this chapter is for the Scabbards they're gonna the beat the heck out of Kaido this chapter. Then in the next couple chapters Kaido's gonna get his turnaround and first he got Kawamatsu, then 1 by 1 he'll knock the rest of them down, but first, we gotta see original attacks from both Denjiro and Asura Doji.
We still haven't see Neko using his *CATLIN' GUN* to shoot out electro balls, we need more Pokemon preferences. Tekking, the reason why that cat scratched you is because you didn't write a song about him before visiting.
Tekking, Look up in the Monster Hunter series games, you will see there are Light Bow Guns and Heavy Bow Guns, They have a round called Slicing S Level 1 and level 2 Ammo. Go on TH-cam and look up the animation and I think that is how it will look in the anime or if shown again in detail. all other rounds used in the game have same animation just with elemental or non elemental animation save the pierce rounds which obviously pierce through and continue on after hitting. I feel this will help with your visualization for the Dan-Giri Gan Attack.
No problem with me regarding Raizo having a DF power. Would actually be hype. Scrolls reflecting powerful attacks is too specific to be just some ninja technique.
Hey tekking I understand that you have a lot of things to do and a lot of manga to follow, but i would like to recommend a series called shummatsu no Valkyrie or Records of Ragnarok, i found it a few weeks back and would love to see more influential people cover it, so if you would please look into the series that would be more than enough.

Kaku and jabra from cp9 both at least 2x bigger and they were not awakened, also momo is stated to have eaten a prototype devil fruits
Id say the lightning could be an awakening side effect, but I think the size is normal, I mean look at funkfreed, he's a normal sword but he turns into a huge elephant when transformed

I'm sayin, Kaido's dragon form isn't his strongest form. Yea, he's a duck dragon, but when Luffy attacked him in his dragon form, it seemed like Luffy had the upper hand, until Kaido went back to hiis "human form" and one shotted Luffy. I also don't think he has a dragon devil fruit, I think he's a dragon born naturally, and the reason he want all the dragon/dinosaur fruit user on his crew. Maybe he's the last dragon on the planet born naturally. ANd maybe the punk hard dragons were for Kaido as well,or created using Kaidos genes...
Not only that, but Luffy used everything he had on G4 boundman arsenal against Kaido´s human form and didn´t phase him at all. He tanked it with 0 damage.
Maybe that's the reason he wants to die, been the last dragon

i'd think Kin cutting fire is a direct result of the Ryuo that the scabbards've shown in this chapter. Like outwardly emitting haki in a direct path to cut fire. kinda similar to what the admirals did by holding their hands out, or what sentomaru's gimmick does

I think even if Oda didn't intended to it is easy to explain how does Kinemon slice fire... If someone slices air then fire will travel according the trajectory of oxygen and we will see the effect of cutting fire of any strength. So my point is also that for Kinemon it takes only the slightest higher strength because he mustn't cut the immensely powerful wave of projectile but just air in front of it. Once the trajectory is changed it goes on like it is sliced...
I fully expected this. The Scabbards have spent literally every moment since Oden's death preparing specifically for this fight in particular. Literally nothing else has mattered at all to these samurai. And Kaido is haunted so much by Oden's wound, haunted by his mortality. This recontextualizes Kaido's suicide attempts. Now they read to me not as Kaido flexing on us mortals, but as a man who thought himself invincible but was trying to prove to himself that he actually was. And it looks like all it did was convince him that no one but Oden could hurt him. Now that lifetime of ego is shattering completely. Kaido is breaking mentally

Tekking, when you were discussing the Naruto ninjustu abilities, it gave me an idea. I think there must be a wood-wood devil fruit (the style Yamato and Hashirama used), or maybe a plant-plant fruit. I'm guessing green bull would be the person to have a fruit like this.
my theory is that haki has a weakness and a strength. In big mum's case its mother caramel, thats when her haki weakens. In kaido's case, its oden and in the scabbard's case, oden is their strength. Haki was also called "will power" in many cases and we also know that if anyone inherited oden's will its probably the scabbards. So if they have oden's will and haki is will power then they have oden's haki???Also since its so one sided then maybe its a one time thing as an aftermath of everyone getting 1/9th of his will. That would also make it perfect for dealing with kaido since hes just one guy and they would only have to use it once since its basically 9 times the power crammed into one fight. This would also explain why they never used ryo before and it would make it more impactful when they run out of this one chance and it starts being a hopeless situation. Oh and this would complete oden's trials that hercules went through too, cos inherited will is kinda like coming back from the dead...just a side thing ig

The fight reminds me of "straw hats vs Oars", at first Oars was just destroying stuff mindlessly but once he started taking the scenario seriously (aka got his brain in the form of Moria) he took them down one by one. We'll see if that's what will happen in this scenario as well
Matt could you do a video on what if Luffy was caught by Blackbeard and not Ace? Would there still be a public execution? Would Ace try and save Luffy? If there was an execution would anyone show up? Or would it just happen? There's a lot there that would be interesting to me

- Yeah, I’ve been waiting for an explanation as to why and how Kine’mon can cut fire since Punk Hazard. It actually got me really excited for other mystical special swordsmanship styles in Wano, but Oda didn’t give us ANY of that.
- Kine’mon was strong enough to take on Kaido in his dragon form with minimal difficulty because of “Oden’s ryuo” or whatever, then why didn’t he just beat Doflamingo in Dressrosa? Same question for Raizo in regards to Jack attacking Zou.
- From what we know about Kaido he’s been defeated and captured before, so this overwhelming mental distress from the memory of Oden cutting him is starting to resemble plot armor bullshit.
Similar to another Yonko we know, this last chapter confirmed Kaido's two greatest weapons: fire and lightning....... oh and he also carries around a one handed weapon he wields like a mallet. Remind you of anyone?
This is only my fanmade theory maybe it is stupid but here it is: A bit in to the battle we she the Scabbards decapitate Kaido and his boddy falls down. They make a short victory celebration but they cant see that Orochi head with a snake boddy slither towards Kaidos boddy to merge with it. So round 2 will be Orochis head on Kaidos boddy, he will have Kaidos strength and power but not Kaidos Devilfruit powers but Orochis Devilfruit powers instead.
Kaido's reactions reminded me of Gaara, when he was injured by Sasuke during the exam. It wasn't a big wound, but Gaara was so unused to pain, that he absolutely lost his mind
I wouldn't be surprised if the scabbards were doing something like burning through their life force in order to take on kaido. They will drop soon enough while kaido will have energy to spare.
During the Bakamatsu Period of Japan, there were four Samurais, and they were renowned as the Four Hitokiri of the Bakamatsu. They all died, got executed by the Shogun. Their names were KAWAkami Gensai, Kirino Toshiaki (also known as Nakamura HanJIRO), Tanaka ShINBEI, and Okada IZO. If these guys were somehow the inspiration for some of the Scabbards (Izo comes to mind), they may die, though I am not sure with the Shinbei thing, since Shinbei kind of sounds like Jinbei, and the only logical death for Jinbei in this arc would be a death against Big Mom.

if you look closer at izo’s slicing round he is shooting his bullets With a flying slash like barrier around each bullet. On top are kiku’s air cuts and on bottom are Izo’s bullets with ring around them you can even see the bullets within the air cuts that he is making with his gun!!!!!

I’m thinking the scabbards get off screened before luffy and co get to the roof. The reason being we don’t want to see Kaido going full out until luffy, so oda won’t want to use kaido skill set before the final fight. By having the scabbards doing well initially it helps show what a beast kaido is.

13:56 I think only the scabbards can damage Kaido since they inherited Oden's will, and Oden did damage Kaido. That's why Kaido felt his scar hurting even before being hit by the scabbards, since he could feel their will. Maybe even Zoro can also damage Kaido since he's using one of Oden's katanas, which must have Oden's haki/will imbued in it.
