Have been doing this for quite a while now. It works better if you add say a rectangle (rectangle with a fill) into the artboards when creating them so when you open the files in Affinity Photo and add them as assets then you get a visual representation of what you're dragging in. Especially useful as otherwise you can't see where the artboards is if you happen to save multiple different sized artboards like I did. I suppose if you only have the one artboard (and you resize it each time after adding it to Affinity Photo) and you know it's there in the Assets panel then it's not a big deal but I just prefer having that visual representation in the Assets panel as it helps a lot as I have saved a lot of different saved artboards in there.
That's a super trick, and if you want to go one step further, if you have sizes that you regularly use (like desktop/phone/tablet wallpapers for instance), create all 3 sizes on the artboard and save it out as a template :)
So again, still no native artboards in affinity photo... Do we need to wait for v3 for this to happen? I actually don't get why Serif/Canva does not make artboards the official way of working with images in Photo. For some reason we need to do some tricks to get what should have been there from the beginning. And this goes for YEARS. Usually this level of hesitance means they want us to work the different way. But there's zero chance you can work with multiple sizes and dimensions of the same design inside a single document without the trick above. Or am I missing something?
This is such a great hack!!! Awhile ago I learned a different way of doing this from Olivio Sarikas -- but not with Assets. So now I have 2 ways of getting artboards into Photo. Thanks so much!
Oh nice one. I tried adding a basic white fill and text that says ARTBOARD and it does what this video shows but also a thumbnail to along with it...I'll have to delete the text whenever I use it but I do like the idea of the thumbnail so a small inconvenience. I do wonder tho if there any dangers to using this workaround, like if gets patched, what will happen to the files? Only time will tell
Hey Hans I'm working on an asset file with an Artboard tool from Designer, a table tool from Publisher and few more useful things it will be ready soon (February).
Open any PDF document in Photo. PDF must contain more than 1 page. Must be unsecured. Delete all content. Leave only one frame. Configure the document as you like: RGB, CMYK, point, pixel, etc. You create new artboards by duplicating the first one. You change the size of the frame, i.e. in the video. You organize it as you like. Save as template so you don't have to re-create this document.
I follow the steps, but when I add from selection, I do not see the artboard there when hovered and when I drag it, nothing happens.

This is really a outstanding trick. Thanks!

Oh that's amazing, their cross compatibility allows for this but I feel like it's not something they intended haha, hope it doesn't get patched
why is this not a default feature?
Shenanigans like this make me reconsider switching from ps
utilissimo! ceravo proprio un modo più semplice dell'aprire il files creato inizialmente su Designer. Grazie!
Maquina 🤘
I do not have designer so I can not do it 🙁
