    The letter at the start of quadro cards is the architecture of the card. (A4000 = ampere, t1000 = turing, p620 = pascal, k620 = kepler)

    I think the reason these hold their value so well is that Quadro cards have unlocked hardware transcoding (compared to gtx/rtx) and can be used as Plex transcoders in cheap low profile pcs, and the pascal generation had a decent transcoding engine.

    • @alainmilette6460
      @alainmilette6460 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Only the p2000 and up have unlocked transcoding sadly sides it is so trivial to use a script to unlock those on any gtx card that it has become a non-issue

    • @danimayb
      @danimayb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Nvidia cards have very capable transcoders but as you say GTX/RTX are limited to only 2 streams, But you can easily patch to unlock that limit.. It's a common thing in plex servers equipped with Nvidia consumer cards.

    • @Flabulo
      @Flabulo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@IndellableHatesHandles Genrally they do things like this to avoid internal competition between their product stacks. They don't want gaming cards digging into the professional market. Because if a business finds that a GeForce or RTX card can suit their needs just fine at half the price then some businesses are gonna have no problem just using a bunch of the cheaper option for professional uses, if they dont need the special validated drivers. This goes as far as physically disabling certain parts of the die itself to avoid people finding exploits and making drivers to reunlock certain abilities. But in most cases disabling a capability in the firmware is enough to keep things separated, since most businesses aren't gonna have their IT department flashing the firmware on every card or installing weird hacked drivers, given the risk associated with that. Oh, and similar things happen with consumer cards too. Like the EVGA RTX2060KO. It was a bunch of defective 2080/2070 dies that couldn't be used. But instead of throwing them out they locked out even more cores or clocked them down or something. Someone figured this out and made a modified driver that unlocked a fair bit of extra performance back from the higher end die.

    I got one of these for $8 Canadian Buckaroos at a thrift store and stuck it in a 13 year old dell optiplex for my friend who had a very limited budget.
    A few used and salvaged parts here, one or two new parts out of my pocket there, and before we knew it the once tired old school computer was playing AAA games and preforming admirably!

    I bought this card at the beginning of the year, to replace a GT1030 in a retro gaming PC. At the time graphics card prices were through the roof (used GT1030s were eBaying for around £115-£130!...) So £70 quid was a bargain, and a hell of a lot cheaper than a LP 1050! Plus p620 has a lower TDP (40w vs 75w)

    I was just thinking today, reminiscing on the previous video, that you should review this in detail, P620 is still pretty plentiful on the market, both used and new, and doesn't seem like a horrible choice for SFF and/or low power machines. Not for modern AAA gaming for sure, but for older stuff or eSports... It's pretty cool. Also, the multiple display ports means all kinds of multi-monitor setups are viable with it. Quite a versatile little thing. :)

    Wow, I can't believe how well this can play games form even 2 years ago., let alone ANY AAA title. This vs the RX550/640, those can be had for $70. Low profile cards like the P620 and 550 can be good for those half height Optiplex clients, since their PCIe gen 3 would limit a rx6400

      I think the p620 is faster than the Rx 550. I'm thinking of snagging one of these to replace an Rx 550 for emulation. It's not much of an upgrade, but my thinking is that Nvidia works better with opengl than AMD.

      To my surprise, the P400 and P620 both use the Nvidia GP107 14nm gpu chip! The P620 has a higher boost clock, faster memory clock (50% faster), and wider memory bus (128bit vs 64bit). Those changes make the P620 a better performer than the P400, even using the same gpu.

    G'day Random Steve,
    Another Awesome Random video😁, I really like seeing the not regular to gaming GPUs tested as sometimes you can find a surprise,
    These are very expensive down here too starting at $180AUD on Ebay, currently for gaming you can either save over $100AUD on similar performance with a GTX750/750Ti or get something way better like a GTX1060 6GB or RX480/580 for the similar $AUD.
    As an example I just picked up a Xeon E3-1240 V2 ($50AUD) & GTX1060 6GB ($175) to upgrade a DELL i3 ($90AUD) to flip as a Gaming PC

    I think Quadro cards are underappreciated. Their main feature is low power consumption and accessibility. They're small, don't run very hot and still deliver a lot of output regardless.
    They are expensive because the targeted market isn't the gaming community, but the professional business line-up for Power workstations and designers/video editors, etc.
    And those don't really care that much about pricing, and there's not much competition.
    ATI's equivalent the FirePro is no different.
    No gamer will get their hands on this because they think they're getting worse performance for more money, but at the end of the year the electricity bill will prove them wrong.
    Especially with the Nvidia 4xxxx series coming up and their ridiculous power spec it's about time we get to think about power to performance ratio. Which the Quadro obviously excels at.

    I have got hold of a Lenovo p330 SSF which has much better CPU and a greater quantity of superior memory than my current desktop - only thing is it's a small form factor setup -
    So i'm interested in this card - is this one of the better SSF cards to play games? Any other suggestions?
    I only really play Arma 3 which is very CPU heavy - so I'm guessing that an upgrade from 3rd GEN i7 with 16gb of DDR3 to an 8th Gen i5 with 40gb DDR4 would more than negate the drop from my 1650 Super (which wouldn't fit in the case or work with the PSU) to this card.

    • @Liinuli.
      @Liinuli. ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well first thing you should check is if you can only put a single slot Low profile GPU. Or a dual slot low profile GPU. I tried to find some pictures about that Lenovo and it looks like it can hold a dual slot one but I'm not sure so you should check it out yourself. Also the PSU appears to be a 260w 80 plus platinum unit.
      This GPU is pretty bad value. Even in used markets. Best SFF card right now is the RTX A2000. It performs about the same as the RTX 3050. And can be had in the used market for about 250 bucks for the 6gb vram model. There is also a 12gb vram model but they are much rarer and go for much higher prices. As such the 12gb version is not worth it. Go for the 6gb one.
      If that's too expensive the second best LP gpu is the AMD RX 6400. They go about 100 bucks used and 150 bucks new. It performs slightly better than a 1650 on PCIE 4.0. But on PCIE 3.0 (which is what the P330 is at) it performs about the same as a 1650 non super. And it can also do RT but not very well. Also if your case can only handle a Single slot LP card then this is basically your only option.
      Then if you absolutely must go nvidia but you do not want to pay what the A2000 costs. Then the last option is to find a rare low profile version of the 1650. On used markets they go for about 140-150. So really it makes sense to buy a brand new one. That would cost about 180 bucks.
      But my main recommendations would be the RTX A2000 or the RX 6400 depending on your budget. Since all those cards are low profile, they also do not need external pcie power. And all of them will consume 75 watts or less so your PSU will be able to handle it. Anyway I know this is a month later, so hopefully you got some help from this.

    I'm impressed that workstation cards can run games because these cards are projected to work with softwares, as you can see that card has four display ports which means it was designed for a workstation to four people, but let me explain what is a workstation first: workstations are a way to use the power of a computer sharing its resources, workstations can has four people working easily in the same machine ( but apparently no programmer or I.T expert dont realized it), the purpose of workstations machines is just for offices as you can set four different accounts at the same time in one machine , so these cards are developed to deal whit static images more than accelerating them, they were projected to use a single computer between four persons in a office, but i dont think that theres anyone who can configure it correctly right now 😞🤣

      If you're running windows 10, it should detect the card on startup and use a generic VGA driver so you can at least see some video. Full shutdown and start pc, wait like 5 minutes for it to configure the video? And/or try a different video cable type, like dvi or displayport if you're using hdmi?

    • @fleurdewin7958
      @fleurdewin7958 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Not true. There is a reason why the K620 is so cheap. It cannot decode VP9 video which is what TH-cam is using. It also cannot support H.265 HEVC video decoding . You'll need to depend on your CPU which sucks. P620 or even P600 can do both.

      No K620 doesn't have DX12 support. It has as much DX12 support than GTX 460. It is DX12 feature level 11.0 card. Which is basically DX11. Heck it's not even the highest feature level of DX11. Which is DX12 feature level 11.1.
      A card is considered a DX12 card when it supports DX12 feature level 12.0 at least. (oldest card to do that was the AMD HD 7790 released in early 2013). The earliest Nvidia cards that supported true DX12 were the GTX 970 and 980. Those cards supported DX12 feature level 12.1 (nvidia hasn't made a card that only supports DX12 FL 12.0)

      @@Liinuli. This is why people waste so much money buying PC hardware they don't need - a kind of macho snobbery about older equipment that pivots around graphs and techpowerup - and next to nothing about what it ACTUALLY DOES - I can pop this card TODAY in a system and it will run Fortnite in DX12 mode, none of my customers (hard pressed parents with kids who just need a cheap Birthday / Christmas present) give a damn about native DX12 support - indeed Fortnite runs even better in its own performance mode. No it won't run Cyberpunk 2077 but when I can I am looking for a budget GPU solution for the games my customers kids actually play - Minecraft - Fortnite - Roblox etc and I can buy 10 of these for less than £200 shipped...
