I've done the decoupage fabric technique on wood, but not a dresser.....it was a wood bunny Decoration lol.....turned out beautiful. I love your channel!!!

I've only seen this done inside the drawers instead of contact paper. I loved the material on the top 2 drawers but I think the wide stripe was way too bold to use with the top 2. Maybe a gingham or other small print would have been a better balance. Just my taste. Other than that the barn red complimented the refurbished oak beautifully and would be something I would try.

Exactly. The loud wide stripes just don't work with the pinstripes and the boho pattern. Otherwise it's very nice!

Yes it would have been better to repeat the thinner striped cloth. But everything else was spot on. :)

LOVE LOVE THIS! I once did this on a particle board dresser. But I put quilt batting behind mine & just glued the quilt batting & fabric on. I never used a shellac on it & it lasted for years & years. It was pieces of fabric that matched the quilt on my daughter's bed. The dresser was a crappy ugly thing, so it was a great way to refresh it & make it last a little longer. With a cute update.

Love this piece! Thanks for the tips on veneer and showing how easy it is to removed and the odds that something usable is beneath it. First time I have seen fabric decoupage and it's brilliant.

    • @DesertDIY
      @DesertDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you!!! If it's old, chances are there is good wood under a veneer. If there isn't, just decoupage some fabric on what's left! Ha!

@@DesertDIY I understand, but maybe you could have gone with a small red/white gingham instead? Then you'd get your contrast as the stipes in the bottom brawer are too large of a print compared to the other two prints you chose.

This looked amazing compared to how it started out. Not 100% sure the three different prints do it for me, I think I’m a little OCD for it. For me I could deal with two of the patterns with maybe drawer one and three the same with the middle a different pattern. But that’s just me and my OCD issues. Even with that it’s still a really nice piece.

Next time I opened it, ugh, mould growing on the top!😨 Luckily they took it back and refunded the cost because it was expensive and poor students can't afford to waste anything. I'm allergic to moulds so that was a nasty surprise. 😛

Okay...What I liked about ur finished vision 4 this project: I liked all the 'Dixie Belle' colors /& products...& that u gave helpful tips & pertinent reviews..
I liked the burnished gold-leaf on drawer- pulls, liked the paisley fabric (thought it lent elegance 2 the make-over & somehow drew the eye 2 the dark wood...making it look rich & Old World).
I appreciate the advice especially as 2 tools, plus the 'fearless' matter-of-fact way u get things done. Thanks so much.🙂

WHY ISN’T THERE A “LOVE” BUTTON??!! I freaking LOVE this flip! I have a dresser with a veneer top that is warped & peeling in spots & I knew I was going to redo it, and now I think I’ll have to decoupage fabric over the drawer fronts. 😍 The piece even has doors on the top that open up to reveal three drawers, with a 4th at the bottom, uncovered by the doors. I *was* thinking of a silver & mirrored finish before, but you just gave me great inspiration! 🥰

I have a great antique Hepplewhite style dresser with a bowed front that needs some magic TLC. The dresser was used for a few too many years in a college student rented farmhouse (now our home), and then a decade or so lanquishing in a barn (now our barn). Some of the veneer is MIA, but the dresser is structurally very sound, with great storage space, and those wonderful slightly bowed front drawers with dovetail joints❣
I am eagerly looking forward to see what you do with yours!!!

Came out beautiful. You are quite the artist.
I use Zinser BIN Shellac based primer in white (can be tinted) or gray (hard to find) on my sanded wood pieces to prevent bleed through. It is a fantastic product. One step with roller or brush.
I have decoupaged with clear coats before using tissue paper, napkins and fabric. A very good way to make sure they adhere, is brush on clear coat, let it get tacky, lay down your material and iron it down with hottest iron setting USING THE NO STEAM SETTING, then apply topcoat to protect.
I like Dixie Belle chalk mineral paints as well because of the great coverage and consistency of it plus the 0 VOC quality, but if you can work outside, most paints with VOCs won't cause any harm. Some of my friends who have looked into using the Dixie Belle paints complain about the high cost of it. I agree it is costly but I am not on a fixed income like my friends.

Yes, I agree. It's nice to know there are some non smelly options out there. The sealers get to me too.

Wow this came out amazing. I love the fabric of the middle drawer. I would have used the gold rub and buff on the top decal and just rubbed it in instead of using the white knobs but regardless the piece came out amazing

Very informative and a very good job. Having said that, I am with others who were not as fond of the 3 different patterns on the drawers. I personally would have rather seen the drawers done in all the same fabric. At the very least maybe the paisley and the small stripe together for less of a "too busy" look. Just a personal preference.

I LOVE the combo of natural wood with that red color!
I have wanted to do the decoupaged fabric but didn't really want to use Mod Podge. It's great and has it's purpose but never put effort into what product to use in lieu of. 20 yrs ago the internet wasn't as um... widely helpful. lol I was obsessed with cigar box purses but that obsession never got fulfilled. I hoarded the boxes and a few vintage suitcases I'd hoped to repurpose. I later moved across the country and I had to prioritize stuff and I no longer have those cigar boxes or suitcases. *lightly sobs*lol But I'm hopeful now I can try the Dixie Bell stuff on a dresser or side table drawer. Now I have to go Google cigar box purses, something I haven't thought about in 15 yrs.

Thank you Arlene. I am someone who enjoys a lot of contrast. For me, visually, it wouldn't have been enough contrast without the bold print.
