I really like the idea of going back and doing the army you really wanted as a kid, colour scheme and all. Not worrying if it is a good army but just recapturing that imagination and love for the models you had as a child.
Il be doing this in the new year. I couldn't afford grey knights. They were all metal at the time. And I was a poor. Now my kids are staring 40k I'm getting me the grey knights when they relaunch
100%. I've literally got back into the hobby by digging out my old collection and finishing everything off. Luckily I was very lazy and didn't finish a lot of models haha. I have a few unpainted and a few I've stripped down also. My passion is back. I will be buying new ones as soon as I can haha. Also, looking at all my old models and remembering bits where I converted or has plans is really nice
1 and a half year, and I am not even done with my friends Mordheim possessed warband 😢 Sadly, It is not even because I have painted anything else instead, I just don't have the time atm....
I started in 2019 still working on the same army that I started with though I’ve worked on painting stuff from a couple other army’s I’ve collected but I’ve yet to finish a full box of models yet unless it’s a single character. Should have a painted 2k army in the next 2 decades or so
Honestly, I used to have this problem but genuinely just forcing myself to only work on TWO things at a time, try to make them different types of models in some way, wether it’s a different colour scheme or a different unit type. Also not buying anything new until everything I had was painted was huge.
Honestly I rather see an army or mini that you guys as artists are happy and proud of over sticking to the 24h mark to the dot. I loved the passion Emil had on this project and I loved the results!
Anyone else pause the video at Lukas’ free hand of the Emperor on a banner being carried by an Imperial Knight? Looks insaaaaane! Lukas = GOAT freehand.
Great fun! Such an engaging video - you made that 24hrs look like a breeze and didn't seem too conflicted when you made a decision to prioritise the minis. Good call and amazing results - love the resculpted abs and the bark on that treeman is terrific!!!
Always hilarious that you think you’ll be able to get it finished in a 24 hour timeframe. However, it works great as a flying start for the project and great that you kept at it. The result is awesome. 👏👏👏
I would like to ask for your experienced opinion using agitators on acrylic paints. Many opinions out there say to use stainless steel ball bearings yet others say no, due to the fact that these will only damage your acrylic paints when they rust inside. Other opinions suggest to use glass beads because they will not rust; but glass is sometimes not heavy enough as stainless steel to be a good agitator. Lastly, I have also come across others who suggest using volcanic rock beads as agitators because they are natural rock & will not damage acrylic paints. What are the best agitators You know of that will not damage acrylic paints? Your wisdom & advice is greatly appreciated James
I'm rebasing and repainting my old dwarf army and I'm enjoying the journey a lot, I'm happy to know you abandoned the 24h challenge and just enjoyed the travel too ^^
Sweet! Really like what you did with those sculpted bases. I'm curious what people would have thought about this army in the 90s if it was sent back with a time machine. Mindblown by the volymetric painting or unimpressed with the natural colours?
Is there anything you'd have done differently to hasten the process if you had to do it again? Many of those older models like the war dancer and the archers don't have a lot of detail nor do they have a lot of accessories unlike many modern miniatures where pouches, belts, bags, skulls, and other bits are just clogging the miniature. It looks like most of the work you put into it was actual work as opposed to how someone like myself might just slapchop/zenithal and then contrast with maybe a highlight or two over those.
Interesting video. Do you think GW minis have changed over the years? If so how? Sizes have increased? More or less detail? More accurate sculptures? Only know HeroQuest models from back then and what they do today (recently returned to painting mini’s) blew me away - even how they put them together. Interested in your thoughts. Don’t think you needed to do this over 24 hours though, painting them and the difference in sculpture, palate challenges would’ve been enough. Looking forward to Luca’s video.
A 1 minute challenge would be nice. paint the base coats in 1 minute stop wait for it to dry then add the shades in 1 minute, you have a max of 5minutes to finish in total paint time.
Love the 24h hours marathoins guys, keep at it ! Would you guys consider doing an independant review of the the new army painter fanatic paint line ? Where I am only these and Citadel's are easily available, I want to know if they are any good :)
Emil, the wardancers are not finished. They are still missing the talismanic tattoos! I think two months is more than decent time span for the amount of minis and the painting level. Of course, if you want to use the army to play in old warhammer editions you need waaaaaay more minis, but that is OK
Nice looking army. Now you just need to get glade riders, the new war dancers, glade guard spears and Aleriel on her giant stag beetle. Then you will have a truely magnificent wood elf army. Who would thought these old minis would come up so beautifully huh?
What are your thoughts on the new GW price hikes? I saw that foot note at the bottom of the article about Sweden getting hit with a 12-14% increase and immediately thought of you and your local shops.
hey Emil. personaly i think the dragon looks AMAZING! and the colour scheme is giving me huge dragon ball z vibes so in nostalge rates id say its top tier!
I had a fairly large collection of metal Skaven in the '90s. But I don't know what the heck happened to them, last time I saw them was probably late in the '00s. I've still got a large pile of plastic Skaven but they are mostly from Isle of Blood or later. Well, except for my metal Skaven Blood Bowl team from 2nd edition BB.
Amazing work as always🙌 Would be very interested in the way you model this rock bases. You use them a lot and very much love the looks of them. Could you maybe make a vid to that?
Luv those classic Wood Elf 🪵 miniatures. Scouring eBay for those old models is something I would love to do. But I think it's a little bit beyond me. Maybe I will have to settle for their nearest modern equivalent.
I love those old Wodd Elf sculpts, though my friends army back then was the bane of my existence... I cannot remember if my Vampire Counts ever won against them. Quick question, by the way, what is the vaporizer on the desk between you two, and what does it do?
Oh... fourth Edition Sculpts. Exactly what I'm colleting at the Moment, to get an Vintage-Woodelf-Army which might be a little bit better Painted than I could Manage as a teen.
You should try out Kings of War. The units are multibased, meaning you can put a dozen models on cool terrain on a big base instead of twenty little bases and removing models as wounds.
It’s very inspiring. As a kid Ioved the clan Escher necromancy minis. Maybe I’ll finally go get them and make painting them my goal once I can actually paint 😂
does the humidifier spraying so close to your minis effect the paint at all? I've heard horror stories of people painting when its too humid out and ruining their kits.
I’m painting this army at the moment, mostly 4th Edition metal minis. It’s a slog, everything needs a bit more brainpower and work than usual for it to not look trash.
Like your 24-hour videos. But I am not sure if I would be very happy with the rushed result. In comparison to a result made not in a hurry and most of rested condition.
Can you please do a tutorial on how to paint Wood Elves like you did? Maybe on your second channel if you don't think the video will do well enough on your main channel.
So the answer is of course yes I mean anyone can (dose GW still have that silly rule of a model must have 3 couplers of paint to be used at their shops? As I saw one guy use a wall painting brush to get past that one, the scariest thing was it still looked better that some of the paint jobs I’ve seen some people do and be proud of😂) the much better question is can’t you make them look good in that time (I have no doubt you will). This is the first video I’ve seen of yours so I hope it leaves a good impression as the community is pretty much all GW has left after the last decade.

I agree. I really wish I could go back and repaint my Vampire Counts army... :(

There is a video on the freehand already published
24 year old army, 24 hours, came out 24 minutes ago. Nice.

2024 too

Yeah, its hard to compromise the time spent painting the minis you love so dearly.
Mustache!!!!! It comes, it goes, it's there , it's here, now it's no where!

I second this.
I'm rebasing and repainting my old dwarf army and I'm enjoying the journey a lot, I'm happy to know you abandoned the 24h challenge and just enjoyed the travel too ^^
Orange and green dragon is the best scheme ever, really glad you pushed through to the end!
Good job on simplifying the paint job in order to get all the models painted in the allowed time frame.
Sweet! Really like what you did with those sculpted bases. I'm curious what people would have thought about this army in the 90s if it was sent back with a time machine. Mindblown by the volymetric painting or unimpressed with the natural colours?
This was amazing, the Wood Elves were one of my favourite factions as a kid and that dragon is just so iconic. Cudos to you for finishing it all :)
They all look amazing. I'm not surprised they took extra time to complete. Thanks for sharing!!!
Lovely result, love to watch Emil paint, his style is so vibrant.
Love the dragon. Puts me in mind of other 80's fantasy dragon art you might see in an old D&D Monster Manual.
Hats off to you for pushing through and finishing this one outside the 24 hours. The younger you would be proud!
Thanks for your videos man! You keep me inspired to keep going! Appreciate you brotha!
More fantasy and old world please! Any update on when you’re going to carry on with the fantasy board? Also cool muzzy dude
This is beautiful army! Everything here have a soul and passion! Thank you!
That was cool guys. Love seeing the old Wood Elves and happy for you to see you finally finish them after 24 years ❤
Very cool to see an army of old sculpts painted up fresh with new techniques!

You're a beast, a legend! A legendary beast, beast of legend!
Oh man, wood elves are my favorite Old World faction since I first learned about them
Does the humidifier help the painting, or just the painters?
It kinda helps the brushes not dry out so quickly

Awesome! I really wanna see what this whole army looks like!
11:47 theres a hair there x'D ... all of them looking awesome!
I'm shocked at how good and somehow modern you made those old sculpt look
Phenomenal work on gorgeous oldhammer
As a friend taught me, an army is never finished.
Luv those classic Wood Elf 🪵 miniatures. Scouring eBay for those old models is something I would love to do. But I think it's a little bit beyond me. Maybe I will have to settle for their nearest modern equivalent.
24 hours, hummm, where are those new contrast paints 🤣🇬🇧🙏♥️
On the store shelf. GW gets no more support. Everything Black Rock touches must fall.

I know sculpting has moved on and we can’t go back but I really love these old metal models.
Orange and green dragon looks great. Still love the old sculpts.
I had that dragon model, and the rider did look awful, but not as bad as one of the Legolas models, it looked like Orlando had downs

Love seeing the old minis.
Is the dehumidifier needed for painting reasons or personal preference?
Getting the feeling that Emil has a Himalaya sized mountain pile of shame 😂
Great looking WHFB models! You should do more ToW 👍
Now I dont feel so bad that I havent finished painting my Dominion box from like 3 years ago...
Så jäkla tjusigt att se min gamla favoritarme i old-school färger men med en ny take i lite mer modern stil!
I've recently finished my collection of oldhammer wood elves and started the task of painting them up.
everything looks so good ! congrats !!! :D
Wood elves were my real choice first after the initial bretons in the first boxset game. My dryads were da bomb!!
It’s very inspiring. As a kid Ioved the clan Escher necromancy minis. Maybe I’ll finally go get them and make painting them my goal once I can actually paint 😂
That army looks cooool!

Whoa Lukas that banner's freehand????!!!!! Youre crazy bruh holy freakun talent!!!
Those Wardancers remind me of Slaine from the 2000AD comics, so they look awesome :)
Wood elves was my first army in 95. Actually managed to paint a 1000pts army back then.
Emil now you feel Like one of us who don't have enough time to Paint.
Looks pretty great.
does the humidifier spraying so close to your minis effect the paint at all? I've heard horror stories of people painting when its too humid out and ruining their kits.
What?!! No tattoos on the Wardancers?
I really like your paint style.
I’m painting this army at the moment, mostly 4th Edition metal minis. It’s a slog, everything needs a bit more brainpower and work than usual for it to not look trash.

You make me so regret to have sold when I was a teenager my first army... Wood Elves
Thank you dearly for the kid's dream by proxy, guys!
Grand reveal at 11:02
Pretty cool but strange models but (yes another but) u needed to, very nice i guess i will have to do an old world orcs aswell
They look so good
Being new to the channel. Reliving my childhood... loving it... tho my lady might be bored hearing bout it 😂
Can i ask, why you have such a big humidifier? is it to keep the paints damp longer? just wondering if I'm missing a trick ????
It's a big room that gets very dry
@@SquidmarMiniatures fair enough. we don't have that issue in Scotland. thank you
Nice army, is this a airmoisteriser on table?
The dragon looks fantastic!
What game is that at 9:52, it looks so familiar but is too blurry to work out!
Man, Emil being dead inside at 5:03 hurt my soul xD
Owowow I have that treelord! Was fun painting!
Can you please do a tutorial on how to paint Wood Elves like you did? Maybe on your second channel if you don't think the video will do well enough on your main channel.
I really wish we just saw more painting. Like, how did you paint the rocks on the bases? I miss the days when i learned from your videos.

What's the deal with the humidifier? Does it help keep paint wet on the pallet?
Asså sick work man!💥💥💥
Sick! Have fun with the old world!
well done lads!
I have a Mordian army, 180 infantry, 30ish heavy weapons bases, and tanks. All waiting for me to have time when I retire, I guess.
Dang boy! You good!
