It seems to have lost a lot of the Rare soul just by changing the speech bubbles, character icons and font. Add that to the absolute destruction of the atmosphere and extra visual handholding and it's put it firmly in the "currently a no" category for me.
This is another example of a remake/remaster that creates an alternate version instead of simply improving the original. There are people who like the approach, and sometimes it works, but frequently I would rather have a better version of what already exists so there's no dissonance.

We need a remake of Banjo Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64
Idc much for the visuals, but the fact that theres no energy bar while rolling (or at least i hope its not later on added) and that enemies die in one hit rather than the whole awkward 2 hit thing, is enough for me to start considering maybe just maybe give this version a try. I hope they fixed the feather placements and not have them be random like last time tho..
I'll most likely wait to see what reviews say before jumping into it.
How about you form your own opinion instead of just listening what others say ?
@svenmandelkorn3238 I mean I already played the original one 100% and honestly my opinion on it wasnt favorable. I am willing to give it another chance, but rather see if the changes are worth spending 40 (if they dont raise it to 60) bucks on a game I already own that I personally did not enjoy at the time.
Admittedly, I did play through it before the update it got later on, but in general just want to get an idea if the changes justify getting it again.
@@nicolefajardo3658 I liked the original. I thought it was like a modern N64 Rare game. It was just amazing. I don't like his this ice woke looks in this new one. It's WAY to bright and it looks just bad and dull. The dark blue tone and the fairy tail atmosphere of the old one was MUCH better. They should have kept it and made it look prettier instead of this crap !
@svenmandelkorn3238 Btw totally fine if you enjoy the original! I may have had issues with it mechanic wise, but do still like the characters for what they are. And I totally agree with the weird choices of changes to this ice level... It looked visually pretty and pleasing. Hell the entire game looked fine visually so I dont see why they had to really touch the visuals like this. If this is how this level looks, im afraid to imagine how the swamp will look if they make it overly bright and whatnot too.
@@nicolefajardo3658 judging from the newest trailer, I think the swamp level will look good. We got a taste at the end when he entered the book. The surroundings and the atmosphere, lighting etc looked really good. Same for world one for the most part. It looked pretty good and it still kept the atmosphere from the original, it just improved up on it. Made it look prettier. I hope they will fix world 2, do the same for world 2.
Original looks better! They fucked the lighting up in the remake
I don't know if there's much tweaking that can be done to change my mind on this game. It captured some elements of Banjo-Kazooie, but the level design just felt oversized and unfocused.
I felt the same way, I was looking closely at the level design and gameplay elements and they have seem to tweak and add some, I hope it makes the game more fun. The levels in the original were just so rough and unfocused it didnt feel like the tight level design of Banjo Kazooie
I wanted the level design to take notes from Miyamotos boxed garden philosophy and give us a terrarium-like feel, similar to the nuts & bolts level (without the karts, obvs)
Dont like the stutter freezing when hitting enemies.
The framerate STILL drops any time they hit an enemy, which was by far the most annoying aspect of the original. How have they not fixed this yet?
You are NIT PICKING.i haven't even noticed this irrelevant crap.
@@svenmandelkorn3238 Even the developers themselves admitted to the shortcomings of the original when they announced Replaylee. If the entire purpose of the remake is to fix what didn't work about the original, and they want people to pay for it all over again based on that promise, it only seems fair to point out frustrating aspects that they have yet to correct!
Basically: Too Dark vs Too Bright
The stuttering on each impact is weird.
Despite the lighting being jank the remake seems decent
They’ve ruined this! Completely takes away the magical frosty cold atmosphere. The colour palette on the og is so much better
So it's the same game? I dont know why I thought it was an all new game
I Will buy ❤
Apparently remaking a game these days is just making it 5 times brighter
I hope they made the controls snappier since that wonkiness of the movement was what turned me off the game
There's a studder everytime they kill an enemy in the remastered
I definitely prefer the new version. That level was so empty, bland, and boring in the original.
Heres hoping we don't have to wait 3 years to get a tonic that changes all the graphical settings to how it was in the original
The original looks miles better?
Too bright, the original one was easy on the eyes. It's like there is a nuclear blast going in the distance now.
And I prefer the old dialogue box style as well, it was way less intrusive than a big yellow box.
Other than that, this remake is looking good.
Loool "nuclear blast" holy gawd hahaha 🤣😆😆😂
to be fair i never beat the game, i dont know where to go once you collect all the pagies.
There are guides online and unless you have at least 100 Paiges you cant face the final boss.
@@emersonssbb i only got 76, i wonder what levels i’m missing.
@@FreeAimDog You still neeed 24 more. YOu cant beat it unless you have at least 100 Paiges. I have 101 Paiges i can beat Yooka Laylee whenever i want too.
@@emersonssbb i know i guess i’m missing a level or 2. i guess it gives me somewhere to start later on.
@@FreeAimDog There are paiges in the overworld. You probably should search for Paiges in the overworld. Hivory Tower has at least 20 Paiges.
Damn i might need to buy the original before it gets delisted cuz ain't no way they thought this looked better, come on fam
Instead of just brughtening everything, they could have played with colors and stuff. Use some blue shading with desaturated light reflections. Give it a cold vibe.
Too bright for me
Really not loving this game freeze every time you hit an enemy thing
It seems to have lost a lot of the Rare soul just by changing the speech bubbles, character icons and font.
Add that to the absolute destruction of the atmosphere and extra visual handholding and it's put it firmly in the "currently a no" category for me.
This is another example of a remake/remaster that creates an alternate version instead of simply improving the original. There are people who like the approach, and sometimes it works, but frequently I would rather have a better version of what already exists so there's no dissonance.
Poor framerate still as intact as ever.
where do you see poor framerate? new one looks smooth to me the only thing i really dislike is the "fps cut" when they hit the enemy. i know its like a thing to show the player they hit an enemy but it looks like the game is stuttering, idk looks ugly...
@@22_and_unkissed Are you a dev? It's not only on a hit for an enemy, but also ground pound and jumping. NGL, this looks bad.
@@gameshowman1234 no obv im not and i know its also on the ground pound and jumping i just was too lazy to mention it.
and tbh a lot of games use this technique, here it just looks so plain, it looks like the game is stuttering. looks really bad to me too...
The old graphics and colour palette were better
Eh.
I have orglin game❤🎉🎉😮😅😊 6:20 🇦🇩🏁🚩🚩 6:20
The coins are a great edition, I always felt that this game was missing some cutscenes to make the story stronger though, I never cared about the characters
The level design seems to have less empty space, which is good. Still no JonTron, though :(
So why did they change it to day time?
this makes me want Banjo Kazooie even more
That they would improve the controls and camera mechanics, but the visuals and text boxes they should not touch...
Why is the magical Night gone?... At least they could do a day night circle to have both. The atmosphere was very special. The rest is well done and many improvements visible. Things like text boxes could stay retro better invest the energy in something else. I also do not understand why they invest so much time in remaking this instead bringing a successor and bring all the improvements into it. It just need new "smaller levels" filled with life instead big empty one. I want to play this one again like I did with conker remake but I rather would have a new one with a complete new experience. The formula has sooo much potential just be creative an bring new. Miss a Click Clock Wood level, a desert, another jungle, halloween and more theme park style. A pirate level would be fire. please no casino this is more sonic better some nature with waterfalls pyramids forests in autumn mountains and stuff like that. Almost all Banjo levels have a special atmosphere
Original better color, and when hitting an enemy the new 1 does a fast stop or something hitting an enemy. Graphical better in second one
Old one uses an analogous scheme with multiple cool hues, ultraviolet, purples, teal (highlights).
New gameplay is monochromatic, feels less atmospheric because the scheme has been flattened.
Crazy how we are seeing a remaster of the 1st game before we even get a sequel
Wow I prefer the original
Honestly, I own this for the Switch. It already looked fine. I'll pass on the remake.
