This is the area of the world where my wife was raised (Sointula). We have now been married 41 years and it has been over 18 years since we've been back. This made us very homesick... especially on such a beautiful day. We really do miss the ocean. Thanks for taking us on this moment of nostalgia.

Those eagles are acting more like seagulls than eagles. I never knew they were carrion eaters. Thanks for the road trip. Really appreciate the map tutorial to show relative locations.
Funny enough, some of the largest congregations of eagles are found at the local landfills or in the streams and rivers when the salmon return to spawn and die off.
Wow, that’s a lot of bald eagles in one location! Must be something they’re using in the soil remediation that’s attracting them. I’ve seen a fair amount of eagles feeding on salmon in southeast Alaska but never that many. All that beautiful scenery makes me homesick for Alaska. Thanks for sharing.

It can vary quite a bit. Campbell River is usually high 60s in May sometimes up to 80 or dives down to 50 Pacific fronts move through, Telegraph Cove and north Island usually around 10 degrees cooler and cloudier more chance of rain. I have never understood people that feel the need to travel to a remote, pristine location and then complain that it is rustic and only has 30 amp power. Many folks go for just that, the chance to experience what nature has to offer. If I wanted to camp in a place with perfect paved roads and all the comforts of the big city I would stay in a five star hotel.
Telegraph Cove is hardly remote it's like 10 miles off a major highway and a total tourist attraction and the rates they charge obviously reflect that, but the imho they have let camping sites get run down over the years, used to be much nicer. Take away the pretty little harbor and I doubt anyone would want to camp there. You can visit many of the provincial parks or forestry/first nations campsites on the island and they are much nicer, and far more pristine for less money.
Ray, thanks for another enjoyable video. Are there any good boondocking opportunities in the Vancouver Island area? A more general question... does Canada have an equivalent of BLM land for boondocking?
That depends a lot on the size of the rig. Back in the day when I tented then had a camper van, we camped all over the Island for cheap or free on whats called Crown Land (like the BLM or US Forest), native lands or public land that is leased to the forest companies. Most of it is accessed via logging roads and is in heavily forested areas often with steep terrain. Because of this most areas aren't suitable for larger RVs or trailers. Most of the flatter lands on Vancouver Island are privately owned or have been developed. Only if I'm headed out on an extended hike. I'm usually more fearful of cougars, not bears, so carry a knife on my belt when hiking deeper into the wilderness. But overall the chances of getting injured or killed by a bear, wolf or cougar on Vancouver Island is pretty remote, much more likely to get killed driving, drowning or falling when hiking, that sort of thing.
I think the camping in the woods is better than a parking lot of an RV park, no trees no privacy, not my cup of tea ! also expensive. Beaver Cove was where we took the ferry from before the road to Port Hardy was cut through the bush.the ferry went from Beaver Cove to Kelsey Bay,then you drove to Port Hardy. If you did miss the ferry you had to take the gravel road to Gold River and on to Port Hardy. beautiful country even though it does rain a lot more than in the south. Thanks for the day trip Ray.
Woods are nice and cozy but much cooler, less sun and the rig gets pretty gummed up with pine needles and pitch. We spent one summer at the Living Forest campground in Nanaimo and even on hot days it was chilly and everyone would have fires to keep warm and man did it get smokey in there! felt like smoking a pack of cigarettes every day. haha Cheers, Ray
The park campground looked like a slum area. Shesh. The campground looked like a Walmart parking lot with some grass thrown in. Well, wont be going there. Thanks for the heads up.

When we did the Alaskan cruise, we came back on the inside passage. Saw one town from ship, that had a lot of totum poles

When the eagles winter here in AR, part of their diet is dead animals throw out by farmers.
I thought eagles ate only live fish. Hmmm. Maybe they have changed their diet if fishing isn't so great?
No, they are quite the scavengers as well and eat small mammals, even house cats.
