The fans loved her but the stupid media likes to shame her for that dumb incident.
@@mrsx7944 well you have your opinion and I have mine. I disagree with you strongly on this. Neither one of us know her and her intentions behind her career. I choose to believe she wanted this and wanted to go the pop punk route and she did great. The argument is that she fell off the radar due to that SNL performance and like I said that’s not true cause she had 2 more albums after the first one and her third album was the one that flopped because she tried to go the Gwen Stefani route. But most artist anyways have 2 good albums and by the third one they start to die down. Same happened for Gaga...
I remember that performance actually. I tuned in to watch it when her new album " I Am Me " came out and I bought the album to support because I loved her back then and still do now. She did really well the second time it's sad they don't have the footage except only on the SNL site because it would disassemble the narrative her career ended after that which wasn't true. Even after the Orange Bowl I Am Me was number one a year later. When Ashlee released the third record that bombed and she became pregnant and focused less on music. That's the truth but the media had a narrative at the time they pushed. She did have acid reflux and I think with a good vocal coach she could have improved alot more because she had a promising voice her technique wasn't the best and the media was never kind to her to be honest but she seems happy now and I love seeing that.
In case anyone is wondering how to achieve this type of manic detachment, it involves smoking weed to take the edge off of the cocaine you snorted before the interview.
I can't believe people in the comments section. She is more talented that any of you. She has a raspy special voice, maybe not the best , but sounds pretty good for rock/pop style. Also, she is not only a singer, she's an amazing songwriter too. And she have a lot of charisma to be in front of a group of people holding the mic. About the incident, it's all explained everything with proof on the Ashlee Simpson Show, she's not lying about the nods. And don't be stupid, she first blame the band because that is what happened IN THE SHOW, she was being honest at the time, but now she is talking in another point of view, saying that it was her fault in the first place cause she should had say no to the presentation because the nods. And she wasn't trying to be Jessica, their music is nothing alike, in her first album she has songs like shadows where she talks about being herself. She doesn't deserve so much hate.
What she really meant to say is "We were lipsyncing the performance because I wasn't confident in my vocals live and, when the wrong song queued up, I did an awkward jig around the stage and then stormed out while my band played live like the professionals they are. And then during the ending credits, I blamed my fuck up on my band and ruined my career. And now I visit Andy Cohen talk shows."
Doing a lip synch it's a must do for tv, just a couple of big companis would actually pay a sound engenieer to set it all up, unless it's a big start they need to make sure they sing. All the "she was sick" or was "scared" or the "chord problem" are mere excuses, she was probably forced to do playback, the problem comes when she did the Orange Bowl thing and she couldn't hit a single note of the song she did, then making her "persona" feel fake and not relatable, anyone who saw the lip synch and then the terrible performance would, understandably, be like "oh she always faked it" Bon Jovi had a playback fail of his own on live tv, after a piano intro he took his time to get to the mic as if he was singing live and the voice started before he even took the mic, he just laughed and no one cared because he was already known for being able to sing live. She had bad luck and a bad respone, which could been recommended by her label, like "do not take the blame, blame the band, the sound guy, the show everyone but you" now that she actually takes the blame no one cares, it's too late.
@@DevinWasTakenWasTaken Completely agree. I don't know if she decided it or was the label idea to go like "i'm not to blame, it's the band.. oh now the sound guy... oh my stomach... everyone but me" now she finally says it was her fault, and no one cares, it's too late and saddly she'll always be remembered as the SNL Lip Synch fail girl. Plus the Orange Bowl performance didn't help, it was so terrible that i'm sure convinced some people that she couldn't actually sing.
i love ashlee she will forever be a legend. Her voice was so unique, like another commenter had said, your voice does not have to sound like adele to be a musician. Her voice was raspy and unique in its own way, and will never be replaced. She also helped me through a lot with her music and I could relate to her "shadow" song, being the younger sister and always feeling second.
I think it’s weird how huge that incident was…Back then many singers lip synced and although they got heat for it too, they literally blew Ashlee’s situation way out of proportion.
And what’s even worse is the fact that, here she is, years later, taking all of the blame for something that was obviously not her fault. It’s probably what she just came to realize that the fastest & easiest way to move on past that subject, every time it comes up, is to just say it was all her fault. That’s sad. I mean the little jig and leaving the stage didn’t have to happen if she’d have just gotten a little angry instead of embarrassed and made a stand right there and then and just waited a few more seconds. First thing she should’ve done was stop those guitar players from extending the mistake any longer and give the sound man, monitor guy (or whoever was running the recorded vocal tracks) a few seconds to get his shit straightened out. Yes, the lip-syncing cat was already out of the bag but they could’ve performed the proper song. Even better yet, tell them to give her a live mic or just turn on the one she had. Just sing it for real to turn around what everyone already had in their minds now. The whole “my band started playing the wrong song” lie was just unreal. Like all 4 or 5 of those guys in her band, all forgot they just played that song a half-hour ago… the only other song that was already played that night at SNL.🤔
@@Imnottapinata It's seem like her career might surpass Jessica's. She definitely had stronger acting. Her father was still her manager and he was trying to speed up her career after Jessica cut him off and got professional management.
I LOVE Ashlee Simpson, currently obsessed with Bat For A Heart! It makes me so mad people basically blacklisted her for that SNL incident...so what it happened. She was young. It doesn’t matter what happened it shouldn’t have affected her career the way it did.
She doesn't even look like the same person. But she now says it's her fault and she had no voice but she clearly had a voice at the end of that snl show when she threw the band under the bus
Are the people who keep saying "it's not fair she was treated like that" actually watching live when it happened? I remember it vividly and it was thoroughly one of the most awkward things i've ever seen. It felt like time was slowing to a crawl and the second-hand embarrassment radiated off the screen. In retrospect it seems a little less terrible as the years have gone by, but at the time it was definitely not salvageable.
When I watch (kinda an annual tradition), it's still just as awkward as when it happened. I remember feeling bad for her. Until she did the jig. Which was cringe-awkward & funny all at once. And then she blamed the band.
Sure it was awkward and cringy but it should have never been a reason for THAT amount of ridicule and hate for months and months both from media and from people. She was young and already insecure. She deserves a second chance.
@@leeleewhitetbh whoever started playing the wrong song was at fault, Autobiography would have been the second song but somebody started playing Pieces of Me, which was already performed. It sucks she lost her voice on the day of the performance, she was so excited for SNL. 🥲
@janeknevermind Thank you for reminding me to come back & watch this for the year. Also, I'm signing up for SNL standby tickets for this Saturday. So I'll take this as a sign that I'm making it in 😉 Too bad graphic tees are against the rules or I totally would find a way to get an Ashlee Simpson shirt made this week :)
You guys realize that she didn’t say this excuse at the time, right? She blatantly blamed her band, and I think that’s why she got canceled. There’s even a dedicated song about it (Neurosonic “So Many People). So before you jump to her defense… why didn’t she come out and tell everyone at the time it was her fault?
Well look at her now... she's STUNNING, even if this is 4 years ago she looks a hella lot better than all her peers who were doing the pop circuit in 2004
She literally has footage of her going to the doctors twice over the week beforehand, and the doctor telling her not to perform. Bassist played correct song (Autobiography). Drummer played the wrong song (Pieces of Me). Drummer is responsible for turning on the lip-syncing vocals. He turned on the wrong one. (Pieces of Me). Ashlee and Bassist are confused. Guitarist joins in with the wrong song. (Pieces of Me). Bassist says Fuck It and switches to the wrong song (Pieces of Me). Ashlee is more confused. Ashlee gets out of the way. Band rocks on. Later, Ashlee uses her 5 second goodbye to say "My band started playing the wrong song" in order to sum up "Earlier this week I was at the doctors about my voice, who recommended i dont sing live. But I'm 2p and naïve so when my parents pushed me to do the live SNL performance, I went for it. During the dress rehearsal my voice started giving out, so we switched to lip-syncing. But we also changed the order of our two songs for the night. So when the drummer accidentally started to repeat the first song that we already performed, and then the rest of the band joined in, I had no idea how to respond. I'm sorry!"
I think her walking off the stage just showed she wasn't a genuine performer but someone who MTV manufactured after her sister's reality show was a mega-hit. A real musician would have been embarrassed but immediately apologized for the mishap and got things back on track to perform the right second song.
You can't compare Ashlee to Britney. Britney might lipsync but she's a performer with real stage presence, people give her a pass because they know she's still gonna put on a great show. Plus she didn't always lipsync and she does sing along with the tracks at her shows the last 5 years, no she's not belting but you can actually hear her voice when she's not focusing on the choreography.
@@GodsFaveSim yeah Britney is actually talented and she was noticed by talent agencies for her singing and dancing. Not like Ashlee who just happen that her sister got famous so she was able to get an easy door thru her

I liked the few songs put out by Ashley back then- she is a good pop singer- I hate that the media crucified her for lip synching- Everybody has done it at one time or another- so what- just insane how the media stirs up so much crap that is just plain stupid.
It has. You could hear it during her old show, but I think she was insecure about it because she often forced a higher register. I think now she's just more comfortable because she's not 18 anymore.
It's crazy what a "scandal" it was back then she lip-synced....when basically every young modern singer today lip-syncs and don't even perform live anymore. Post Malone was lip-syncing his entire concert recently and tripped/fell down a pit while the vocals still played...and his career wasn't cancelled like poor Ashlee.
What i don't see many people giving credit to Ashlee Simpson is her style and fashion. When i watch her videos, even her old ones, the outfit pieces are still relevant and wearable. She was definitely more influencial than she or anyone can admit!
It wasn’t what happened …. It’s HOW she handled it. She just walked off stage and left the band to deal with it. Which worked out well for them b/c they sounded better without her 😂 She also blamed it on the band. Yes she was young, but the fact that she blames a medical condition is bull. She never could sing and was trying to float in on nepotism. It’s years ago. Just had this spin across the algorithm b/c I did revisit the strange leprechaun jig she did during the original video
Ya if that happened to anyone her age it would affect them. But she should have never forced something that wasn’t natural she’s still doing it to this day. She doesn’t completely suck at singing she should embrace her raspy voice and stay in the keys she can actually hit.
Ashlee looks so pretty! I always loved her..the SNL thing was terrible..her band just smiled and kept playing when she walked off..I always felt really bad for her
Isn't that most of the poptarts? They just want to be seen and famous. They have to be dumb enough to be controllable and have no artistic vision for themselves.
@@meg-k-waldren because of the midia circus that made this stupid incident such a big deal? It's not like she was the only performer in the world to lipsync lol
She wasn't a young girl, she was an adult and handled it like a champ. The treatment was justified considering how horrible her healthy vocals sound being part of a showbiz family. Nepotism gets you to mediocre levels.
Ashlee, don’t worry, bby, I remember the second SNL performance well! I actually tried to find it on TH-cam the other day, but to no avail. It was awesome; Catch Me When I Fall is a beautiful song and you performed it wonderfully! 😽 x
I wish she hadn’t been given so much grief over this moment; singers lip sync but no one ever makes a big deal of them doing it. Yes, she shouldn’t have blamed her band and then years later accepted responsibility for it but she’s better than most singers today.
Any singer who woke up without a voice would have done the exact same thing she did. Performing on snl was a big deal back then and no one would have let go of that opportunity on the day of the show. They've all sang along with the track playing at some point anyway. It's pretty much the norm. More singers probably should have had her back. Maybe some did and I just don't remember. I do remember that she got absolutely torn to shreds for that though.
she didn't deserve to have career murdered. she seems like such a down-to-earth person about this situation now, but it may be because she's baked. either way, she didn't deserve all that
What do you expect going into the mainstream pop industry? Shit like that never happens in heavy metal. Fans may be less in number but they're loyal. Bands over 30 years old still keep their fanbase because they appreciate the music it's not about fads and singles.
It wasn’t fair to you Ashlee, you’re an amazing singer, and why hasn’t anyone else been treated how you were for something that was out of your control... you’re amazing and I am so glad you are back making music, I have all your old music an I know every song, because they were all amazing, much love and respect ❤️❤️❤️❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎤🎤🎤🎤🎼🎼🎼❤️❤️❤️😁😁😁😁
Unicorn Fairy1265 It’s a shame the first thing she did when it was fresh was blame her band. But yeah, years later, she owned up to it with ease. Very classy.
This is what happens when we have talentless fake people in the pop music industry. It's not about the music anymore, it's just about the celebrity status. And worse, almost ALL poptarts lipsync. Ashlee's sin was walking off stage and not powering through it even if it meant singing (or lip syncing) the same song twice. She's a case of marketing and ghost writers. No musical talent there kids.

It wasn't just the media. She's generic and talentless. Her only claim to fame was that she was Jessica's sister. Her whole look was forced.
The fans are the ones that booed her at the orange bowl. Not the media.
Girl nobody is laughing just chill it’s not funny
Laura Moor 😂😂😂🤣
Sometimes I do that in uncomfortable situations it's quite common
can u all give her a break... Jesus shut up
In case anyone is wondering how to achieve this type of manic detachment, it involves smoking weed to take the edge off of the cocaine you snorted before the interview.
Lmao not very often do I read something that genuinely makes me laugh out loud but the way you worded that shit 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"I woke up and had no voice" Well Ill be god damned.....that is the perfect explanation, im so glad she realizes that.
lmao
Okay we got a Ashlee Simpson fan 😭😭 relax
What she really meant to say is
"We were lipsyncing the performance because I wasn't confident in my vocals live and, when the wrong song queued up, I did an awkward jig around the stage and then stormed out while my band played live like the professionals they are.
@@sonnic1995 the lipsync isn't what killed her career. It's how she handled the mistake instead of owning it
@@DevinWasTakenWasTaken Completely agree.
Yeah, Devin cause you were there with her that day and you know exactly what happened right? Lmao.
Sounds pretty accurate to me
Translation: "I've matured enough to take my publicist's advice and repeat the PR script rather than my own script where I just blame others."
Her laughing like that only makes it worse. Why can’t she just be serious and admit that she can’t sing?
lol
i love ashlee she will forever be a legend. Her voice was so unique, like another commenter had said, your voice does not have to sound like adele to be a musician. Her voice was raspy and unique in its own way, and will never be replaced. She also helped me through a lot with her music and I could relate to her "shadow" song, being the younger sister and always feeling second.
She sucks. Awful singer.
Evans voice is so soul full, he reminds me of a young Terrence Howard.
Lulu R totally agree and he kind of has a Bruno mars voice thing going on 🤔
That's who it was! I was like he reminds me of someone.
Lulu R i think it would be considering hes diana ross’ son lol
To me he sounds exactly like Steve-O
Terrence Howard yes
I think it’s weird how huge that incident was…Back then many singers lip synced and although they got heat for it too, they literally blew Ashlee’s situation way out of proportion.
For real. It was ridiculous.
No. She was caught and exposed. That was around the same time she disrespected a McDonald’s worker in Canada. So there’s no pity.
He sounds so much like his mom.
😂😂👌🏻👌🏻 Nailed
She's aged so well!!! Even if she had a nose job.
She had way more than a nose job, but yeah.
Not her career though. That aged like milk left out of the ‘fridge lol
@@Imnottapinata It's seem like her career might surpass Jessica's. She definitely had stronger acting. Her father was still her manager and he was trying to speed up her career after Jessica cut him off and got professional management.
I like her reg voice...she's cute
The doctor who did her nose job did a great job. I had my rhinoplasty done same year as Ashlee, and my nose didn’t look any different.
I LOVE Ashlee Simpson, currently obsessed with Bat For A Heart! It makes me so mad people basically blacklisted her for that SNL incident...so what it happened. She was young. It doesn’t matter what happened it shouldn’t have affected her career the way it did.
bat for a heart is pretty good. Sounds like a chill song you'd hear at H&M in the early 2010s
So I'll take this as a sign that I'm making it in 😉 Too bad graphic tees are against the rules or I totally would find a way to get an Ashlee Simpson shirt made this week :)
wow, looks like they're great for each other.
Tbh that album helped me more than any singer of my generation. She was really talented the world was too cruel ...
Because two things can be true. The wrong song was in fact playing AND she was facing an illness.
I never thought the Diana Ross dynasty and the Jessica Simpson dynasty would somehow merge LOL
Lol
She knew how to stand up and go on with her life, other people could have gotten into drugs, alcohol or suicide.
“How it affected you.”
It literally stopped her (unjustified) music career.
Well look at her now... she's STUNNING, even if this is 4 years ago she looks a hella lot better than all her peers who were doing the pop circuit in 2004
He loves her. She seems ackward at times.
your spelling seems ackward too.
@@sal_pal3356 *awkward
@@Jacson_23 thanks Sarah
I’m glad she accepts responsibility but part of me doesn’t believe the voice problem story
yeah it's weird because the band clearly started playing the wrong song
I'm sorry!"
But the backing track was playing. You’re baseless I get it
Okay @@DomCharlo
Lol that’s the only way I remember her from SNL!! Lip singing her face off!!✌🏽😂
Lip syncing
The host should have asked her if she apologizes for blaming her band.
Imagine being Diana Ross. And then getting Ashlee Simpson as your daughter in law. Sometimes life ain’t fair.
I think she was the only female desperate enough to willingly agree to be his beard
Britney Spears haven't sung live in years, it's not fair how much doing playback once damaged Ashlee's career
Not like Ashlee who just happen that her sister got famous so she was able to get an easy door thru her
Charlie C exactly 👏🏼 thank you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. People always try to discredit Britney but they don’t even have half the success that she does. She’s the princess of pop for a reason.
@@GodsFaveSim Actually no one ever really gave Britney a pass for lip syncing at least not anyone outside of her fan base. Also Britney has lip-synced 95% of her career
Ashlee Simpson actually comes off as super real and likeable. Kudos to her!
She was only 19 at the time but people mock her when pretty much every other pop singer does it
It's funny. It's been over 15 years and people still remember her for that SNL incident.
I liked the few songs put out by Ashley back then- she is a good pop singer- I hate that the media crucified her for lip synching- Everybody has done it at one time or another- so what- just insane how the media stirs up so much crap that is just plain stupid.
Has her voice always been this deep? well, not Luann deep, but deep nonetheless
David Lots of singing in the recording studio
It has. You could hear it during her old show, but I think she was insecure about it because she often forced a higher register. I think now she's just more comfortable because she's not 18 anymore.
Probably smoking weed so much made her voice deeper.
This isn't Ashlee related, but omfg I love Evan's speaking voice
They need to be at home with a big ol plate of pizza rolls.....
Which worked out well for them b/c they sounded better without her 😂
She also blamed it on the band.
She’s actually grown so much and is super hilarious and realistic
“It was my band”
😂
😳😳 She’s deniing she lip sinkd STILL?? Girl, just own up to it! ….it happened so long ago. It’d be better if you admitted it.
Exactly. She can blame it on whatever medical reason she wants, she still lip-sync and embarrassed herself.
I can tell it still effects her. Keep your head up
Ashlee looks so pretty! I always loved her..the SNL thing was terrible..her band just smiled and kept playing when she walked off..I always felt really bad for her
Room temperature IQ’s.
Isn't that most of the poptarts? They just want to be seen and famous. They have to be dumb enough to be controllable and have no artistic vision for themselves.
Room Temperature IQ’s...never heard of that but I’m stealing that now
Why didn’t she just say it was her nodes from the get go? Instead, she threw her band under the bus. Real cool 🤨
Please not another couple's reality show!

Her amazing raspy voice 🖤
She wasn't a young girl, she was an adult and handled it like a champ. The treatment was justified considering how horrible her healthy vocals sound being part of a showbiz family. Nepotism gets you to mediocre levels.
Ashley looks very beautiful here. Very pretty earrings.
Does not address or apologize for blaming the band. True to her nature.
1:04 No hate but her laugh sounds a little similar to that Eddie guy in friends.
She blamed her band for her lip syncing 😂
Ashlee, don’t worry, bby, I remember the second SNL performance well! I actually tried to find it on TH-cam the other day, but to no avail. It was awesome; Catch Me When I Fall is a beautiful song and you performed it wonderfully! 😽 x
Do u know where it's available if it's not on TH-cam? I haven't seen it but I want to
I wish she hadn’t been given so much grief over this moment; singers lip sync but no one ever makes a big deal of them doing it. Yes, she shouldn’t have blamed her band and then years later accepted responsibility for it but she’s better than most singers today.
No she is not lol stop it lol
Any singer who woke up without a voice would have done the exact same thing she did. Performing on snl was a big deal back then and no one would have let go of that opportunity on the day of the show. They've all sang along with the track playing at some point anyway. It's pretty much the norm. More singers probably should have had her back. Maybe some did and I just don't remember. I do remember that she got absolutely torn to shreds for that though.
Because lip syncing is basically pretending you’re performing. So do you even mess THAT up? Lmao
she didn't deserve to have career murdered. she seems like such a down-to-earth person about this situation now, but it may be because she's baked. either way, she didn't deserve all that
What do you expect going into the mainstream pop industry? Shit like that never happens in heavy metal. Fans may be less in number but they're loyal. Bands over 30 years old still keep their fanbase because they appreciate the music it's not about fads and singles.
I agree. I loved her music...the songs were very relatable
She walked offstage I mean lack of professionalism killed her
it's so sad that her career ended after that. such a cool album and her outta this world album was out of this world but nobdy cared :(
Yuck. Such a generic voice.
She just wasn't professional. That doesn't happen on live shows when you're being honest lol

I'm gunna go with you don't understand women.
Best attitude ever. No one remembers her second time on SNL. Why? They are insecure they choose her faults to feel better
Uhm no. Because by that point her "career' was already over. She was a phoney ,manufactured product of nepotism. So self absorbed and shallow.

Shes bubbly n i think the nervous laugh is cute
Me too.
I really don't get why it was such a problem. Just cause she intended to lipsync does not mean she can't really sing.
Her husbands voice is the best.
Soothing
This is what happens when we have talentless fake people in the pop music industry. It's not about the music anymore, it's just about the celebrity status. And worse, almost ALL poptarts lipsync. Ashlee's sin was walking off stage and not powering through it even if it meant singing (or lip syncing) the same song twice. She's a case of marketing and ghost writers. No musical talent there kids.
