  • In this video, I walk you through how to assemble and sew the Pradaz Nylonz Re-Edition Inspired Bag by Tobistylx Bag Patterns. I walk you through all the steps of making this bag and share some tips and tricks along the way. This video is filmed like a sew along. If you don't want to watch the part where I sew or am doing other things, you can always fast forward or adjust the speed of the video, so it is faster. However, there are times I give tips and tricks while sewing. I figured filling in some of those moments with some helpful information, makes it a bit more interesting to watch.
Also to note, I do not give any measurements, show pattern pieces or use any measuring tools on camera, in any tutorials I film. This is for the protection of the pattern/designer and also because I often film tutorials during testing and measurements or other things can change. So, to ensure the tutorials are accurate and match with the pattern, I don't give this information. You will need to have your pattern open on another device, printed, or open on your computer to follow along with each step and be able to refer to measurements or seam allowances given. If you have the video open on your computer and want to also have the pattern PDF open on your computer, you can minimize this TH-cam video and move it to a corner on your screen, it'll be smaller but you can still see it and have the pattern open as well.
The machine I sewed this bag on is a Juki TL-2200 QVP Mini and I used a 90/14 needle. I used Soft Vinyl for the exterior pieces and Zipper Overlay, and quilting cotton for the lining. For thread I used Gutterman All Purpose Polyester Thread. You'll want to use the needle and threads that work best for your machine.
For more details on the products I used and where to purchase them, see further below in this description. I make no money and don't gain anything from mentioning these companies and their products. I want to give this information to help you source the supplies I use, if you like them and/or want to use them.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the designer, Tobi, through her email provided in the pattern. You can also leave comments below and I will reply as soon as I can.

I love this type of bag, but the problem for me is that the zipper doesn't lay flat... it curves up and down. Besides that I would love to make this. I haven't watch the video yet, but will later. If u have any tips I would appreciate it. Thank u

Are you using a nylon teeth zipper? On a wallet that I’ve just made the pattern maker said that if you are going around curves with a zipper (the wallet had a full zipper around three of the sides with curved corners) to use a metal teeth zipper to stop it going wavy…might help you, I’m not sure!

@suedouglas5455 Oh wow, thank you. I have never used a metal zipper but there's always a first time ☺️😚

When sewing these styles of bags, always use a nylon zipper and ensure you keep an accurate seam allowance. What you can do to help ensure this is, draw thee seam allowance on your materials, on the wrong side, and stitch directly on that line. This will help with the wavy zippers. Another tip, which I sometimes like to do is, iron my zippers before I sew them into a bag like this. I find it helps press them flat. Oh and instead of clips or pins, use double sided tape to hold your zipper in place. This ensures it doesn't shift while sewing, which also helps with the accurate seam allowance. 😊

Using metal zippers can still cause waviness, unfortunately. I have used metal zippers in the past and had more issues with them then I do nylon. Metal is not as forgiving as nylon and you also can't sew over metal teeth. If you do, you can break a needle or damage your machine. You have to always hand crank, which can be a bit of a pain. ☹️
