I'm a singer and have listened to Roberta Flack's original version many times over. The temptation could be to turn up the pace. Instead, by turning it down and bringing all his sensitivity and emotion into this song, George Michael has created a sublime version of it, which I've not heard bettered until now. It's subtle, exquisite, refined, controlled and yet brings all the emotions of the lyrics fully into play. This version, to me, tops them all.

I got to see Roberta Flack perform this in 1974 at the Paramount in Seattle,.. it was my very first concert I went to. I remember the audience being so still, not a sound, just taking it all in. I have been in love with this song ever since. George Michael rendition is breath takingly beautiful. Leona Lewis and Josh Groban also give beautiful rendition's of First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.
