Unlike the previous games, experience in 4 is spread evenly among all surviving units.
The devs did this because the meta in AoW3 was that your hero had to get all the kills, which was an annoying way to play
@@juliannim6843 it was changed in planetfall. Aow4 seems to have the same xp system planetfall did.
Horned Gods in the right build are absolute nightmares for enemy players to deal with. One of the order tomes allows you to give all of your plant units steadfast... which gives the vines and plants they summon the ability to survive a full turn no matter what the enemy does. So you're left facing enemies that can drop effectively invulnerable walls onto the battlefield, and also spawn single entity plants with a guaranteed AoE poison attack since you can't kill them on the turn they are summoned.
This nonsense means that they can lock any non phasing units in place for at least 2 turns, and potentially isolate enemy heroes and the like if they leave a 1 tile gap between them and any other units. Combined with either mass AoE or the likes of a Beast or Archer focused army they are nightmarishly powerful
I am absolutely loving all of the AoW4 content. One of the few games I'm super excited to see more of too. They've got a solid base and it looks like it's only going to get better from some of the patch note.s I hope it becomes a regular on the channel, because it's just the breath of fresh air I've been craving!
yeah and seeing how it feels like the perfect amalgamation of AOW, endless legends, and civ. I don't think it's going away soon.
@@xsision5513 seeing as there are a ton of mods for the game already. even if he loses interest with the base game, I'm sure he can find something that will work for him.

Maybe try a barbarian double steadfast moral build, thats a another nice one (and it counters archers to)
@@agus_beckly6843 Mounted Spider Barbarian Fury Archers counters double steadfast :) T2 units are pretty expensive though, there's a reason most of the strongest builds are built around T1 units.
I deffinitely agree that there is a seed in the backround that rolls you the same items all the time. I have had 100+ turn games where I see no leg items. None at all. And then I have other maps where every other item I got was a Locket of Channeling.
Im pretty sure something is bugged somewhere to the point Im getting paranoid about it and for the life of me I cant figure out how to repot it as a bug? But its happened so concistently for me that its deffinitely a thing. Its usualy 1 or 2 items that just keep repeating as a reward from everything.
Leg items have been rare for me most of the time, but then one of my games I kept getting just Rune Leggings, to the point that I think I had 12 of them after outfitting 5 heroes.
And now in my current game I have gotten several Juggernauts Leggings... that I have NEVER seen before in any of my 126,5 hours of playtime. Im not complaining per se, +2 Defence and the ability to crush obstacles by walking on them is great... but even my Wizard heroes have them at this point?!? Cause I have no other leggings!
Sound like the game would benefit from some kind of shop and/or a way to craft your own items.
Like, instead of recruiting a unit, you spend gold/mana to create a random item over several turns. (from a specific category, like weapons, etc.)
I’ve noticed this too, I think it’s mostly because certain factions/races have a specific item pool they pull from and in turn you get those same items when you defeat them. Pretty much every materium build I fight ends up dumping a ton of chestplate of the champions into my inventory (also not complaining but it is a little weird)
@@johnyshadow Past AoW games actualy have had a "craft item" city project, so it shouldnt be a big stretch to get that into AoW4. The more complex you made the item, the longer it took to make. And you could never make some of the best items with unique effects, but you could always fill your slots with "something"

I´ve only really played Planetfall, with it´s mod upgrades.

This content has been absolute gold, you're so engaging when you're this hyped for a game.
If some Civ VI is on the board again though I'd love to see you explore the Civ Blitz mod for a game or two!

I'm going to miss the AoW4 content when it ends. I have yet to find anyone who makes any I like as much as yours.
Imagine finding out 3 TH-camrs you love, potato, pokemon challenges, and tier zoo all played dnd with the same group. Added tides of death campaign and save or die to my watch list.
I'm having a heckuva time trying to be as successful as you are in this game. I get maybe 20 turns in on Hard difficulty and 5 unit marauder armies are wiping my double hero stacks without taking a loss 😅
Definitely should come back to the game when dlc drops though I mean, Dragons are just awesome
I think Enchantment, Amplification, Artifice, Doom Herald might be the strongest non unit spam early build. Especially on Industrious and Dark culture civs
Would be really sad to see this game leave the channel. Really hoping it becomes just part of the rotation and a mainstay here, cause I can't get enough of it!

I just played my first game, I spent like 50 turns trying to find what I thought was the final enemies capitol city somewhere underground. Only to realize she was alone running around my domain. I stopped caring late care and didn’t even look at my cities, fml

Instead of that spider leg you could have gotten the "take everything" and even get a bit of evil out of it.

Pirate Coves are in AoW 4 ... but they are just water infestations instead of Wonders, so ... yeah.
Mark of Misfortune, Joy Siphoners, and Amplified Arrows is a crazy powerful combo. Lower moral, increase fumble chance and do it on multiple targets per shot.
Looks fun, I did a "good" high play theough already but evil looks cool as well.

Pirates, vikings, Ancient mediterran galley. Lots of options for a ship/sea focused dlc. My knowledge aint great outside of Europe but I know the Koreans had those famous turtle ships which would be cool. Each different variety can slot into a different colour. Pirates purple, vikings red, korean order (defenseive ships), Green a few choices, the ancient greeks/romans/carthagians my favoured. Yellow can be more late game to represent colonizing cannon ships who's primary rival are the pirates, who have similar ships. Blue you just get magical and fancy, so do whatever history or fantasy you want for that, let inspiration take you.
Combo this with the appropriate buildings, wonders and bandit/marauding enemies and I think you're on to something. Imagine a ship based mount for your hero, with unique bonuses when on water, such as a ram ability.

TBF you can kinda go pirates with seafarers... it is kinda broken if you go fully coastal. Get t3 archers through wardens or zephyr archers please!

Have you ever tried dark culture with maternum build? Mathematically speaking, the iron golems with the dark culture enchantment and the magic upkeep reduction from the culture's affinity generation should create a cheap, hard hitting and hard to break army.
You could probably wack together a pretty good Pirate Civ with something like Ruthless Raiders and Adept Seafarers. Maybe as a Dark or Barbarian faction. Focus on Chaos and Materium.
Water is just suuuuuuper lacking rn. The playstyle is there but the thematics and visuals are very lacking. I mean, in this video you could see in the water battle that his pyromancers *lit the water on fire* . Water battles are just reskinned land battles rn and it really makes boats useless. I'd like to see a way to embark land units onto naval units to use them as boarding/landing parties at the very least, and greatly restrict land units usage on water (outside of flying stuff, which makes sense to function in naval battles). Some water-based tomes would be cool for summoning sea units and buffing ships. Maybe an amphibious racial transformation. And, of course, water adaptation needs to have a use in actual water instead of just allowing swamp farming. Maybe a fishery buff or sea quarries or something.
I am all for making June, July, August also age of wonders 4 months.
I wonder if this game can support total conversion mods. It is published by paradox, so hopefully it does, but this game would be perfect for a Warcraft mod.

Would love to see some sort of multiplayer gameplay to end the AOW4 month off. Whatever you feel up to, be it Co-Op showing something insane you can do with a friend, or PvP. Live attempt or recorded, just overall just interested to see how you approach multiplayer.
Experience isnt handled like in planetfall. Its equally divided among all victors.
I confess to being slightly bummed to hear you say you'll take a break from AoW4. I found your channel when you were covering Dune: Spice Wars. I tuned in with rapt attention when you played Against the Storm. I don't care about Civ 6. Not even a little bit. Watching you tackle AoW4 has been the best. Ah well. Of course I'd never dream of trying to pull you away from what you really enjoy doing. You won't hear me whining; that's a promise. Thanks for all the fish, Mr. McWhiskey.

I hope they bring back the class mechanic they had for aow 3 because while it is fun it is annoying that all culture are able to get perks from other cultures because it basically makes it feel as if you are doing the same as if pick other late game cause sure there are slight perk to the culture that you can't get if you pick a different one but there barely anything and the only one that I have seen have any real effect on the game is barbarian cause it help early with fight and industryal buy it scout mountain ability so I give this game about 8/10 cause I think they definitely will improve this game and I think they need to improve the aliment system of what rewards you get if you go evil or good like make few different even that can happen if you are evil or good or changing aliment or make the mechanic have more weight to it cause you can basically agnore it if you want

@@Krishnath.Dragon In the game you can probably just simplify it to magic, the real version is probably done with oil or some other flamable that does not dilute in water, like when there are oil spill, and the oil catches fire, tho it is the oil burning on the water, and not the water itself burning...
@@Somerandomguy524 Greek Fire was different to oil though, which is why we don't know how they did it. Oil was well known to be flammable and float at the time, and Greek fire was something different, and very scary for their opponents.
As for in game, yeah, definitely because magic.
Just switch to an age of wonders 4 TH-camr until civ 7 comes out
