The thing that I believe sets this PA installment apart from the others is that the person is still aware to an extent. They're still aware of the fact that something is wrong, but what exactly is wrong is no longer within reach of them, which is why this year has a lot of coherent moments throughout. It's like one big fight for clarity, ultimately ending in defeat with how _exhausted_ the ending of N1 is. At that point, they're tired of fighting, and they just finally give in and let go, the exhausted groans serving as a lead into Year 6.
Yeah, you can definitely see the fight against the condition, the K side tracks are actually not that much longer compared to the year 4 tracks (some y4 tracks were 5 mins long, while k1-k3 are 7-8 minutes in length). But they turn into 25 minute long behemoths in the second half pretty much.
the tornado warning at the start of L1's mad creepy it's like the small part of the patient that's still somewhat intact is screaming at them like "HOLY SHITTTTT ITS HAPPENING"
23:53 This voice event announces about a tornado warning, even if it should've been issued long earlier, while being incredibly distorted. It reflects on how it was too late for the patient to see that figurative and literal storm over their heads, and only now they realize their fate. But it won't matter, because they will just forget about the worsening tornado in their mind, because that said tornado rips apart all sense of recollection, so they don't even know what a storm is.
i like how this handles having a somewhat coherent memory among all the chaos at first. A lot of fan projects, even great ones i really like, either do a "stage 3.5" where singular memories are drawn out and decayed in ways that don't fit how alzheimer's actually works, or claim to be gradual but shift straight into a completely non coherent memory-filled PA in a way that also doesn't match how alzheimer's works This actually feels like someone holding on to memories the best they can as things are failing. And more importantly, they're successful enough to just make out a song through the noise for a few actual minutes, instead of for just a split second without it being diced throughout the entire track or segment, while still actually having the noise to obfuscate it.
having listened to y5 to its entirety, and if ill be honest it feels like the person is right at the line between awareness and non-awareness, they're just barely grasping onto themselves until they fully enter clinical stage 5 by the end of the album, thus completing the transition to post awareness. id imagine at the first half of y5 the person is drifting off into confusion every few moments, and is just barely aware (seeing as k1's bumper is incoherent in some parts, but you can still understand what theyre saying), where as in y6 their lucidity is completely gone, where o1s bumper is completely imcomprehensible
that little bumper at the beginning saying "...upset now bc of that(?) only is such a complicated problem, that it has gone so far..." made me think that this guy is just starting to give up. he cant really grab onto the points where hes lucid and easily slips back into disorientation
"...too long- ...upside down because of the only- ... such a complicated problem, and it is gone so far..." The beginning of the 5th year is full awareness that the disease is progressing and has already gone so far that now even the thought that this is the end sounds distant and broken. I don't know what to say about it, it's done really cool, I haven't listened for year 5, but one beginning already makes it clear that this is the end, then it only gets worse.
*ALL CLARITY MOMENTS* K1 - Disorientation 1: 01:11 L2 - Panorama 33:11 M1 - Home is Nowhere: 1:01:49 (real banger) 1:03:47 M1’s clarity tries to play again, but it just can’t play the same N1 - Disorientation 3: 1:33:22
55:54 It represents the calls of help of the pacient It's similar to the bird sound that samples it:The kauai ōō This bird it was native to Hawaii but it's extinct If you know the lore this male bird it's calling for a female But............. it's gone and the bird is trying to find her but failing unsucesfully The male is the last of it's species The male is heartbroken This resembles the pacient calling for anyone for the cure But the doctors do not have a cure for this The pacient is heartbroken
It may have suffered extensive delays, but it was 100% worth it in the end. It is an honor to work with The Caretakers and I will definitely work with Jordan and The Caretakers in the future. -Adler Thebes
The beginning of L1 is fucking terrifying, the patient dispite then being in the downward spiral, is aware of their own spiral, despite how disoriented they are.
It’s crazy to know that none of these contributors except for jord himself knew just what they were getting into. Each and every layer sounds like they had all gotten together and decided the perfect thing to make for the perfect moment to perfectly fit in with all the perfection surrounding it.
I've always been a sucker for the ''breaking point'' stages in EATEOT related albums. Suffice to say, Year 4 and 5 are my favorites of this beautiful thing; from the defiant stance that the patient tries to take in year 4 all the way to the by-then half-minded realization that they soon won't even have the mental presence to understand what the concept of defiance by the time year 5 rolls in. It's wonderfully tragic, and the album composition is excellent to boot.
Panorama might be one of the best caretaker style tracks I have ever heard, holy fucking shit that bit where everything stops for a minute with just one pleasant sound is fucking beautiful
I love how even in a state of non-awareness. Some of the titles aren’t clinical meaning that the patient is still trying to grasp onto some sort of lucidity even when the funnel has struck their mind. Incredible work from everyone that has contributed. I can’t wait for the later years.
I like how this is the perfect transition to post awareness, you can hear some sort of melody in K1 until it becomes more mangled and it sounds much more like post-awareness near the end
Year 5. The release date is June 11th, 2022. I have now reached the post-awareness stages, and like last time, I will jot down timestamps of things that I’ve heard throughout the albums. Let’s start with Year 5, shall we? Three years remaining. K1 0:09 - “It is such a complicated problem, and it has gone so far…” 0:18 - “Fought so damn hard…” 0:44 - What are those vocals in the background? I can’t make it out. 1:13 - Smooth Operator & Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic. One deadly duo. 1:50 - What was that in the right ear? I must be hearing things. 4:01 - I think that might’ve been A1 that played here; can’t be certain 6:45 - That is definitely A1, with some H6 thrown into the mix. Oh, I’m a poet; I didn’t know it. K2 8:59 - Stone In Focus…wait how do I know this? 10:16 - Just keeping this timestamp in mind. 11:05 - This might be my favorite part of K2. No reason. 12:05 - Drones, they simply just come out of nowhere. At The Millennium Of Space. Redux. 12:26 - Some goofy ahh vocals but they’re quiet. 14:09 - Actually, change that. This might be my favorite part of K2. And again, for no reason. K3 17:17 - I’m in the mood for some Killer Watts. Wait, how do I know this? 19:18 - Droning, droning, droning. We sure do love our drones! Right? 21:16 - Some more drones being in focus…or maybe it’s just one. 21:59 - What is that in my right ear? I kind of liked that actually. L1 23:52 - “WE HAVE ISSUED A TORNADO WARNING. EFFECTIVE UNTIL 7:40 PM, CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME FOR PERSONS IN-“ Yep. Let’s watch as the tornado strikes everything in its path, like the dementia striking our memories down into bits and pieces. Yeah, this could’ve been worded better. 25:16 - A Cruel Angel’s Thesis & Fly Me To The Moon? Another deadly duo. 27:46 - Something is going on in the background, but I’m not sure what it is. 29:47 - Bells. I think. 30:55 - Is that supposed to be Make It Like A Memory? This memory is a lot more persistent and stubborn than I expected. 32:16 - And why did I place this timestamp here? No reason. L2 33:08 - “And I’ll do almost anything, that you want me to, ooh. But I can’t go for that.” (No Can Do) What, you thought I didn’t recognize this? 33:39 - Love the choir in the background. 35:50 - I have no idea what is being said in the background, so I’ll just continue on with Year 5, yeah? 36:35 - Is that supposed to be Kino’s A Pack Of Cigarettes? My beloved. 38:09 - ??? 41:15 - Everything stops for just a second. This might be the best part of L2. Just saying. 42:32 - Another Day In Paradise? How was I able to make this out amongst the chaos, I may never know. 43:33 - Fantasy by Earth, Wind & Fire. Blud thinks that he’s going to see victory in the land called Fantasy. 💀 44:34 - He is still standing and looking like a true survivor. Not for long… M1 48:42 - The halfway point of the album. No, I’m not joking. 50:19 - Can’t really make it what the samples are here, but I’ll just put this here anyway. 52:08 - Gee, aggressive much? 52:50 - Marking this down… 54:07 - Like D2 of the original NATMOS, Make It Like A Memory is continuously played as the years/stages progress. No matter how broken it is. 54:12 - “I Talk To The Wind…” 55:55 - 😳 56:09 - That’s the…Kauai O’o bird, calling out not knowing he was the last of his species…my god. 1:00:26 - I think this might be Pink Floyd’s Money, but I can’t be certain of that. 1:01:12 - Boston…SMOKIN’?! This was the LAST song I expected to play in this album. I like how this is used as a clarity. For a moment I was…Dazed And Confused. You know, like the movie? 1:03:54 - Flashbang! 1:04:21 - September & Yume no Tsuzuki? The third duo I’ve recognized thus far. How I made these two out from all that chaos? Don’t know. 1:06:25 - “Layla…you got me on my knees…Layla…I’m begging now and please…Layla…darling won’t you ease my worried mind…?” 1:10:25 - Oh how I wish it would rain down. Another song I am too familiar with. N1 1:13:34 - Sounds familiar… 1:16:12 - Something in the distance that I can’t make out… 1:17:15 - What could that melody be? Could it be what I think it is? 1:18:38 - Money? Pink Floyd? Maybe? 1:19:27 - Yep. That is definitely Money and you can’t convince me otherwise. 1:22:30 - Again, I am In The Mood for some Killer Watts. And again, do I know that song from somewhere? How am I aware of what this is? Who am I talking to? 1:26:09 - These chimes are familiar yet I can’t place my finger on it. 1:26:42 - Is that what I think it is? 1:28:09 - There it goes again. 1:29:13 - Yep. That is definitely the Start-Up sound for the Windows 95. I want to know who sampled this and thank them for it. 1:32:28 - That sounds like a groan. Our patient is growing tired of fighting. 1:33:22 - A very coherent Windows 95 Start-Up Sound. Very. 1:35:22 - A rather obvious groan. Our patient is now exhausted and has given up trying to fight back against this disease, and he is now groaning in pain. 1:36:56 - Droning Vibes… 1:37:18 - … If I had one word to describe Year 5, it would be: Well-Crafted. That’s not really one word, but it’s very fitting for what this experience brought to me. L2 and M1 had to be my favorites from this mainly because of the samples I’ve identified. And if I wish to be honest? This is far better than EATEOT Stage 4, and I won’t be taking that back anytime soon. I cannot wait to see what’s in store for Year 6. Cheers. -Lacey
I love the cassette "scratches" in the intro, i always tried to do something like that but i never got the opportunity, glad to see that idea in a proyect with so much passion as this one
man this is great. the voice at the beginning, even declaring "only now that the problem is so complex, and it has gone so far-" before cutting to a different clip. this shows a minimal awareness of the problem this early on in year 5. K2 's distorted A1 is significant in a way. K3 and K2 just consist of cutting music, suddely, something intelligble, for a few seconds, then its gone for a moment, maybe it comes back for a second, maybe not, but its all empty. with L1's title, we know thoughts are being simplified majorly. we hear what sounds like the moon landing (or some kind of radio transmission on a military walkie talkie?) to me, but immensly distorted. this shows that even extremely emotional and important memories, are being degraded towards an endless nothingness. more A1, and 2 shows no respectfully different anything. by M1, static is much more present. we hit a post aware state with K3, but that quickly decays to a "tune". near the end, static is all thats left.
i think the voice, rather than saying 'only now that the problem is so complex and it has gone so far', i think it goes more like 'it's such a complicated problem and it has gone so far-'
I finally decided to listen to the post-awareness stages after listening again the previous years in a row. And I must say... I can't find another day in paradise and whether I'm listening to it or not, this is very well done
So far I've been impressed by the album covers of this project. Year 1's cover was, and still is, hard to precisely ascertain but it seems to be some sort of music player with buttons on its lap, a holder on the side and a cable that had been disconnected. The text that was displayed was completely illegible. Even though it was a solid, tangible, object it also foreshadowed the patient's future as their memories would soon be clouded by chaos. Year 2's cover is much easier to guess. It's a bottle empty of medication with a pill on the side as well as a cloudy, purple, sky. This symbolizes the patient's denial as well as struggle to come to terms with their devastating condition of their mind. The bottle having been emptied out with only one pill left sunk in how finite and futile their denial is and the hope that they still have over their control over life is slipping away bit by bit. Year 3's cover is bleak and strange. We see three sticks perforating a white surface. One is a match (signifying the patient's dying hope), the other a pencil (signifying the patient's ability to understand their thoughts and the rest of the world-we use pencils to write stuff down and describe things after all) and lastly a cigarette (their ability to cope with their condition through any means possible utterly failing them). There's only one ray of light and the rest is a grand sea of blackness. Year 4 has two covers so it'll be long. The first cover is mostly grey with the exception of a large circular object that is the Capital Dome seen from the inside and under it resting on top of another one which is the Washington Monument. The capital dome being just a mishmash of colors put all over yet still forming a pattern similar to the dome IRL signifies the patient's memories and mental state becoming increasingly unidentifiable. The monument looks mostly normal if you ignore the black spherical object put on it. The real monument does not have that, it has shafts at the middle of each of the four sides of a prism that tops it all. Lastly, the real monument doesn't have a line that goes through its bottom with bolts at the bottom which make the other version look metallic. So what is with that? Well it also signifies the patient's recollections becoming increasingly falsified as their ability to discern what is true and false take a nosedive into an endless spiral. The second cover is more tangible yet also harder to actually describe. We see a dark, rectangular, object with platforms sticking out from random locations. We also see a light penetrating through it forming an arc that goes from up to back down again. We also see what looks like a cable and an antennae at the top right. What is it exactly? I don't know, but it also further shows the patient's inability to describe their thoughts, their feelings and the world around them with enough detail for them to understand it. They can no longer give "names" to things, yet the light still managing to penetrate through this slab of whatever material is made of shows the patient's is still trying their hardest to know what is happening. They continue to try to identify things. Now we have Year 5's cover. I'll admit, I thought that the cover would be abstract, or at least much more distorted and indiscernible than what we got from Years 3 and 4. This is different, though. We can identify it. In my point of view, it looks like a speaker but also seems to be mixed in with a fan or air conditioner. The circular part at the top looks like the circular part of sorts that produces sound but also that which blows air. The buttons below it are the things that control its operations. It also has a red spot in the middle, probably there to indicate if it is on or off. Of course, there are other major details behind this. The background looks very different from all of the other ones. Every other one follows a single color. From pink to purple, to black to grey to dark purple. Here it is a mishmash of green, white and purple. This signifies the patient's complete inability to establish any semblance of order in their conscience with their dementia having robbed them of any such thing. Last but not least, it is disconnected. The cable at the bottom shows as such. This means the patient has given up. They are no longer trying to understand anything at this point, even ones which we can understand with minimal effort as shown here. The object is identifiable, solid and tangible, yet the patient no longer cares that it is. It is the same to them as all the other distortions in their mind. As such, they are equally terrified of this as with everything else given its imposing, dark, presence on the album cover. This is why I like this "Stage 4" album cover over so many of the other ones. The other ones show an increase into abstraction and chaos of the patient's mind we cannot understand. Here it is the opposite, it displays a non-abstraction we-people who don't suffer from dementia-can give a "name" to yet the patient is completely unable to identify and understand it. It's special because it takes a new spin on something of which still shows the patient is completely detached from everyone else. They have completely, utterly, sunk into the void never to return back up again. And this is only the fifth year. There's still a lot of time left. As such, you have done an amazing job on this whole project. I cannot wait for the other years.
There's a dark comfort I find in your projects. My grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's recently after losing his brother to it. It's been so hard for all of us. The future has been my enemy as I can't find peace in it. I'm lucky for him to still be in his early stages with medication so he still functions very well, but I know it won't be like this forever. Thank you all. In a weird way, this helps me find some peace. I look forward to what The Caretakers will release in the future.
I was intoxicated when first listening to this..I got through K1-L1 before realizing I was listening to the fifth year. I can't recall my initial thoughts when listening to it at the time, but I knew it was a ride. Today I went on a road trip and decided to go through years 1-5. Typically you could say I'm a patient one and originally I was going to wait until all 8 years were released so I could listen to them all in a single sitting but after listening to NATMOS a few times, I just couldn't wait..A few months back I planned on it but I wanted to take this journey while sober unlike EATEOT (bad idea, don't try it), but was too immersed by the idea and deterioration of tracks in the original project. I could say I'm a sucker for dark ambience and it blew my mind to hear the distortion and gradual deterioration shown throughout the original. I had also noticed the difference in each patient's will to keep fighting and feelings towards the ruthless plaque affecting their ability to remember anything. There was a lot of willpower to keep pushing, even if it came to no avail, but to simply keep going with a hollowed faith that it would all end, and it did. My thoughts on NATMOS will have to wait for another day though this masterpiece isn't the original, this is something different from what I could have ever imagined, and they've not even hit stage 5 yet, but for now, let's begin my thoughts on everything so far. I've been collecting and forming my thoughts on this all day, so I think I'm ready to lay them down..I may need to break this comment down in replies as TH-cam has a great character limit..
Year 1 Overall this year was what most could say was upmost chill and relaxing. The first bumper makes a great fit as a way to kickstart this ride with a couple tracks following accordingly. As the track titles suggest, it seems as if the patient is normally going about their day with great memory recall. A4 kicks in and seems great but cuts so hastily leaving you with a just that vinyl crackle. That feeling of just "What?" flashed in my head. The cut was abrupt and had shown the first sign that something was up. The next track kicked in and gave me a feeling as if the patient were like "Well ok then....". A5 ended peacefully leading into A6. Nearly the same situation as before. Great lead into another abrupt cut. Slight difference here but felt like the memory glitched at the end leaving the patient confused once again. Next came A7, great chords. but another cut. It started to feel like the dementia was saying "Hey! Don't get too comfortable because I'm working my way inside your brain!" It would be disregarded by the patient to be followed with another "full fledged" memory to easily recall. B1-B3 ran nicely, and strong, then B4 played but sounded so exhausted. Like the brain needed a quick break to grab its breath. This couldn't be ignored. "I'm remembering perfectly fine but why do I feel as if my mind is slightly tired from recalling? Something is up.." which brings us to our next bumper, this time a weather forecast. The reporter mentions quiet skies but "distant winds and pockets of storms" which is followed by a track that is filled with uneasiness and slight paranoia (or at least that's how I felt traversing through this one). Ending off year one was joyful as if nothing happened, as if the patient threw themselves into denial chanting "Nothing's wrong! See! Look! I can recall just fine!" Year 2 Another weather forecast to start us off noting distant thunderstorms that immediately intrigued me. I thought back a few months when I first listened to year five and I could audibly hear "such a complicated problem, and it is gone so far.." I almost instantly knew something was wrong in the mind and that it was the brain saying that something terrible is taking its toll internally and that it was having a hard time untangling this mess. I return to this year's beginning bumper and put two and two together and let these series of forecasts take me through this album as an alert of the dementia's severity. This leads into a series of droned notes that implement a depressing mood onto the patient. The next track started with another bumper that portrayed the patient's appreciation for the life they've been given. This bumper cuts out into a track that's just so, sarcastic, but trying for the title it's been given. Such an unhinging way to feel positive as if the patient has already flew past the stage of denial. The whole mood of this track was like a hammer knocking down on my heart but was somewhat of a vibe. The next track started up and gave more of a "Whatever, I can take this" and proceeded to keep going with their life. The track's mood was overall positive, but without a leash. The horns and drums felt bubbly and somewhat fragile as if they'd pop without care. Next up was a more positive, but menacingly instilled moody track. Note that I am not good with sample finding but base a lot of these tracks off of what I feel. I digress this one plays itself out with a lingering eerie presence. Everything becomes depressing for the patient from here on out. We are hit with a series of moody tracks that are eventually picked up at D2. However, the mind is once again exhausted. This song plays happily, but tired. The following memory keeps the mood, but the patient let's themselves relax. Too relaxed that we sink back into a depressive mood, that we weren't going to win this one. This was initially my turning point where I thought "This was not going to be the same strong, and persistent battle like NATMOS put up". D5 and its track name rounded that up pretty nicely. Our closing song here felt as it the patient was sinking away from their ability to perfectly recall anything, with guitar strums that sounded like they were wailing out cries to not get lost to the mist. The patient would reach out as far as they could to stop those mournful cries but with a failed attempt. This year results in the patient's first loss. I won't ignore the album covers neither. Although I use this as ambience to examine then further give analysis on, I always make sure to quickly take a moment of my time to analyze each other art and think of it throughout each album. The first representing some old school device displaying text too ineligible to understand with a cut wire and a small set of what looks like piano notes that are twisted to show that it's not completely perfect. The color selection is interesting in this one. A bouquet of bright pinks and purple that remind me of tallied up dresses or maybe blooming flowers. The dark, and grungy color of that device give off an aged and old texture like it's a "been there, done that" thing. Year 2's art was pretty simple, yet still interesting. it depicts an empty pill container with one remaining pill on the side. It goes to show that medication doesn't last forever and eventually be enough to stop that foreboding storm up ahead. The textures and colors in the background compliment this really well. A palette of colors ranging from dark purple to faint blues to show unclear skies. The colors are battling though, and as the music is deteriorating, the patient's perception on the outlook of reality is also diminishing. Let's continue to the next couple of years before we revisit my thoughts on these abstract pieces of art used..
Year 3 Another bumper, more distorted and seemingly distant. We also revisit one of the patient's very first memories that started this road of descension. It no longer sounds magical and happy, just exhausted and moody. Like a long sigh on a road that is only getting darker and darker..I haven't gotten around to Carebear's works yet and E2 makes me excited to see what they've put together in their tribute to the EATEOT community. That being said, this tracks definitely gives off an "All good things come to an end" motive. I absolutely adore the next track. The piano that started us off gave us the impression that this would be a calming ride. The piano then takes a mischievous turn to deeper notes, You can hear some rattles and squeals cut in, but that's where things get unhinging. Piano strums, small, and short segments of notes playing. High pitched creases playing in a coordinated manner. Tocking sounds, and we return to small segments of mischievous patterns and long series of strums across the piano. Everything is a mess. It makes you feel like the patient doesn't even know what they're trying to put together. It's all so confusing, but coherent. Like they have all the parts of the song but doesn't know exactly where to place them so just throws them all there in hopes that they will piece themselves back together. Quick, but distant strums echo and notes start to play, instilling a worrying feeling. "This isn't right. This is starting to get out of control..Somebody help me before I descend into madness.." As they continue to throw in all these segments. It repeats itself which eventually turns into a form of mockery from my perspective. The song eventually brings itself to an end as we dig into the next song. This one definitely would be fitting for a night drive in the rain, to escape from something, in any scenario. And in this case, I see it fitting. The next track flips over with a dreading ring that can't be ignored. It feels like the ringing was so overwhelming for the patient that as the track progressed, they would purposely prevent the ring from playing. It's a ring to drive anyone insane if they've listened to it enough, even for the most patient person in the world. E5 is overall desperate and exhausted, the horns especially. To capitalize on this, about 3/4 of the way into the the track the song switches moods and blows a horn that proves this all the more. It's yearning to get back there but keeps going anyway. The music and the patient both want this madness to end, but it won't. The tracks brings itself to an end as we take another step into a depressive state of the patient's mind. Things are falling apart. I want to talk about my perception of the twisted correlation I see between this and the 5 stages of grief, but that will have to wait until my analysis on year 5. F2 gives the sensation that the patient turned to god to fix things and have mercy. That god would save the patient from the monster eating away at his mind as they recalled this memory. Even in this grand speech, things were continuing to get more and more tangled. A violin started playing that becomes the star of the show along with a few other instruments that gradually down out that speech. "It was all a dream.." was what seemed to have battled the instruments before the repeated guitar strums slapped the speech in the face. Strum strum strum strum strum strum for so long. The patient is losing it, they are losing it all. They turned to god, but god is not there to save them from the inevitable, what many humans have to go through as they stride to life's exit door. All that's left in this painful defeat is sadness and acceptance..The burning question that I was left with was: "How will they go about this fight?"
Year 4 (SIDES G/H) "And we'll likely enjoy every minute...minute...minute...minute". This is my second favorite album by far and I did not expect this at all. The patient said "F*** being miserable about this. This may be a ride into absolute flames, but we'll be partying every moment of it". I felt somewhat glad that the patient has built enough will to enjoy the misty clarity before the coming storm which draws us into our first musical piece in this 2 hour album. As stated by the reporter, I could feel that solid attempt to enjoy everything in that first song. It was slow and somewhat distant, but with a boosted mood higher than even some tracks in the first year. We then revisit the patient's earliest played musical memory with a good positive spin in it. It no longer sounded as exhausted and dreadful as before, although more drony and distant, still enjoyable as before. Another nice track plays through and then comes the track I had a nice headbop to. What was portrayed here was the following: "So you're here to invade my mind? We're standing strong and eating your blows like nothing. We can take it all!" As if the patient and their brain had fallen but gotten up with an all strong, marching army. The track falls quiet a couple times with angry metal strums as if the plaque was fighting back with more power. The patient gets back up again, with more angry, vengeful strums. The screams from the harmed brain can't be ignored but the patient pushes on anyway, because there's no stopping them now..right? Their will is far too strong right? They fall, again and again, and those angry strums and drums become mixed with a feeling of "consequences will follow". But they get back up once more, and push again with their built army before immediately getting their memory shut out to be moved to the next. What a well fought story Telkar! You love to see it in the heat of the mist. As the track switches, it seems as if the abuse of the drums before exhausted the brain so they had lost that usage for the time being in this track, hopefully not being forgotten that is...G6 is where the patient is what looks like is stripped of their ability to properly place down the drums and claps in this losing tune. The mood remains hopeful but everything has become a mess, and is far too tangled to fix. The drone somewhat carries the melody, but this is an overall consequence for trying too hard to fight back at the inevitable plaque. The patient fails to fix the tune and gives up. As predicted, they aren't able to keep that notion of a loud, and clear beat. The tunes play with a very distant beat, that is before we move to a little song I can say I have plastic love for..😉 As mentioned previously, this song is completely hollowed out and the drums prove that very well. The shiny glimmering is just as hollow as the rest of the song. It's a husk holding onto that metaphorical shell so hard. Initially I would attempt to make it enjoyable as the patient has been fighting to, but it's too much to bare to see. For those NATMOS fans, good luck on reaching that clarity in that shell of emptiness..We move to an inaudible bumper I can't quite understand as it's too muffled and echoed to clearly perceive but assumingly an important notice for both the listener and the patient. We move into a darkish ambient leaves a frustrated feeling. We can't run from the truth, even if we tried taking it in a happy manner. A moment of weakness was shown hear, and brief emptiness in not only the track, but now the patient. We move to a track with a brighter mood, it's more deteriorated and delayed. The white noise is making an overturn and has started to battle the music. Things start to fall apart from here. However, we can see this as another strong attempt to get up strong from that previous knockdown the dementia gave. We are left with drums and spaced horn segments, as if the patient began to strategize how they could tackle this invading plaque. Many attempts are failing and they are running out of ideas, and each moment wasted is another moment forgotten, so they have to think smart and thing fast before it's too late..We cut into another blissful and enjoyable tune swarmed in mist as if the patient let themselves enjoy their coherency once more. This track heavily glitches out horridly and almost freaked me out haha. A glitchy piano tune with vocals begins to play and ends in a blow. We continue down a tough road as we are merely but over a quarter past this delve into confusions. H6 is an interesting take that reminds me of E3 in EATEOT. I feel the frustration in both here, but this one is different. It plays, then cuts, repeats a few times, then plays again this time connecting that same segment without pause as if the patient had gave up and put them together. We move into the last, semi-coherent but overall positive tracks of this first half of this album. I think it's fair to say the patient has their first victory in a long time. It was a struggle, but the worst is still yet to come. A victory in this raging war to truly be cherished... I have a lot to unpack for the second side of this double album and year 5 so I will be continuing this the next day when my fingers have gotten a bit of rest. For now I'll leave you with this. Great work guys!! Also I want to note that Windex squared away everything with explaining those cover arts that I am now left without words to describe em'. They've hit every point..that'll be my excuse for not explaining my perception as the words have been taken right out of my mouth lol. Until tomorrow though.
Nearing the end of the premiere. This is one of - if not the absolute - most creative and well executed "transition" stage I've ever heard, while also paying tribute to Stage 4 and fully drifting into it near the end. Emotions shooting in and out just as fast as the memories were a fantastic touch, the sirens were incredible, the clarities were tragic and simultaneously a fucking jam. Alien sounds and amps going crazy combined with the as-always terrifying vocal bumpers from both you and other submitters. It is genuinely terrifying and at the same time, extremely calming. Those delays were absolutely worth it. Incredible job by everyone involved.
Liking the take with the track names being like Tim Hecker and not having post awareness confusions as the name outright. Feels nice to have a change like that. Also liking how the radio/news voices are still there no matter how much they're effected by the disease. Sounds absolutely incredible also, was D E F I N I T L E Y worth the wait. Well done.
Absolutely horrifying and I love it man. You continue to amaze me with your craft and skill. Can’t wait to dread Year 6. Also, I’m grateful that this series introduced me to “Godspeed You! Black Emperor.” If the main purpose of this series was to introduce people to that band, then it worked beautifully.
Coming back to this after about 3 or so months (Have not really listened to much) but this still is possibly the best sounding stage 4 PA (and transition) ive heard from any fan project. Jesus christ hearing this with headphones the first time never really got me until i did it again. Stunning work Jordan.

Damn, I missed the upload lmaoo, this got uploaded late asf. Still though I enjoyed this a lot, definitely a different experience from any other post awareness. solid 9.8/10, love the clarity state(s), and how literally every stage begins with a radio broadcast lmao
I like how the radio is completely recognizable and normal, but the sounds we hear says otherwise implying it's not the physical world we are forgetting but the auditorial one.
It truly is amazing to see my contribution in this album. Now that I have a computer again, I will continue working with the Caretakers on this fantastic project. It’s been an honor. P.S. - for anyone wondering, “Skygem” is my other name. And for anyone curious about my section, it’s at the beginning of M1 and samples Rick Astley.
I have to say, even if it's not all complete yet, this is probably the best EATEOT-inspired project I've come across on TH-cam, and this is my favorite of the years yet. So much of it is just so well thought out, and while at first it just sounds like a bunch of clashing instruments and whirring sounds, when you really dig into it there's so much meaningful stuff in it, I'm just going to list a bunch of awesome things in here that caught my attention - Before even getting into the songs themselves, I immediately noticed just how different the structure of this album is from EATEOT Stage 4. The songs start only 7-9 minutes long, not too much longer than most of those in year 4, and as it goes on the songs also slowly evolve into the more conventional 20-25 minute long behemoths, which to me makes it clear just how much smoother the transition is from stage to stage and from awareness to post-awareness than even EATEOT itself. I also find it so interesting how after the first two songs, the clinical titles actually _go away_ for a while, as though the person is desperately trying to cling onto whatever awareness they have left, but you can tell it's not quite working since the titles they come up with just end up so abstract (e.g. "vignette of thoughts" or "time in between.") - 00:00, they seem to know there is a "complicated problem" for a moment, but the knowledge of that fact doesn't seem to register with them since it keeps cutting out to the distorted drones almost the whole time. - 01:11 Is that audible C2 I hear? The beat sounds awfully similar. - 06:25 G2 / A1 is back! I like how obvious it is to point out thanks to the sample you picked instead of having to distinguish it from a bunch of other trumpets like in EATEOT. - 23:52 We hear of a "tornado warning", continuing the allusions from the previous years that dementia is like an approaching group of storms, but now they're no longer approaching, they're here. Once again, the awareness of that fact seems to be fleeting, as they snap back into the delirious and confused music immediately after. I also find it interesting how the time of the warning was snuffed out by the static - it's consistent with the fact that people at this stage would lose track of what time or day it is. - 33:06 Panorama starts, and we immediately get into the first of the three clarity moments of this year. There hasn't been such clarity since year 4, which was quite a while ago by this point, but the person doesn't seem to find it to be such a big thing, and the tone of this clarity is more relaxed and calm. They simply feel like themself again for a moment, before it inevitably fades into the more distressing music of later in the track. - 39:20 This seems to be one of the most stressful moments of the year for them, it sounds like they keep reaching for a memory yet they just can't find it, and this failure to remember is obvious to them and it stresses them out. They keep trying, but end up getting more and more stressed, represented by the music getting louder and louder. After enough failures, this leads them to give up on remembering it at around 41:11, and the static dies out and the music quiets down immediately. This giving up seems to let them regress into a more delirious and unaware state, which we can see as a voice, much like at the start of K1 and L1, tries to play right after, but we just can't hear what it says unlike the first two times. - 55:55 Not many people will catch onto this, but this bit is sampling a clip of the last surviving Kauai 'o'o bird before the species went extinct. As soon as I recognized that bird song, my mind was blown, it's such a poetic moment. The last member of its species, and in this context, it sure does sound like a cry for help. - 1:01:49 We get our second of the three clarity states in this album. This one, though, is a lot less chill and quiet than the one in Panorama, it sounds a lot more "loud and proud." I also find it interesting how the person tries to get it to play again at 1:03:47 (clearly, they're enjoying it) but they just can't remember that memory as clearly this time. They just don't have it in them to remember clearly without forcefully trying to remember anymore, and so it quickly fades out back into the static right after. - 1:22:16 And there's G2 / A1 again. Things seem to be winding down here. - 1:33:22 We've reached the final clarity of the year, this one a lot more drawn out than the other two. It also took me a good minute to recognize that those comforting chimes actually sample the Windows 95 opening sound. They're clearly in a more relaxed state than the entire rest of the year we've heard. Honestly, it almost comes off as more tired than outright blissful, but they can remember that little chime, and they repeat it over and over as it seems to comfort them. This calming moment will just become all the more heartbreaking for us as listeners, though, because the next thing we're going to hear is the start of year 6, and I can only imagine how much further down the black hole the mind will fall from here. I won't go over the album cover here, someone else in these comments already has and did an incredible analysis of all the other years too. A lot of what I said is just speculation, but regardless of how much of it is true, clearly there was an incredible amount of attention to detail here. All I have left to say is hats off to everyone who contributed to this. You've made an album so rich with detail I can find something new every time I listen to it, yet so distressing and confusing it's unpleasant to listen to, which makes the details all the more awarding to discover. It expands so much on and introduces so many original aspects that weren't in EATEOT's stage 4 (clinical stage 5), yet stays so true to it in spirit. Thank you so much for this, and I can't wait to hear just how much more things will deteriorate and unravel in the final 3 years.
Here’s an interesting thing: the A1/G2 you’re hearing is a different song; it’s GY!BE’s Providence (Dead Metheny). A1/G2 are used though, but they are at different times
@@NorwayTracking I think that was the point; it’s to probably give a false sense of knowledge of the stuff they know and don’t know, and it’s now affecting the most important memories of the victim
You outdid yourself keuring and the artists involved. The post awareness states despite being chaotic still feels like music. The difference between this and the original becomes ever clearer as this single album shows how much care and perfection was done to get this to the state it is. The album cover is a stark contrast with logic and thought behind it and the sounds themselves for the most part remain in the realm of music despite being a simple transition stage. This feels like a slow decline and not a sudden jump like eatot and the original natmos. Please keep up the work and find a capacity to keep the music in essense despite the chaos and rupture that occurs as the album draws on. I'm not even going to bring up the use of the combine siren.
There actually was no siren in use! The wall of sound was a heavily mangled version of Aphex Twin's "Hankie" (#4) from an album about lucid dreaming (Selected Ambient Works Volume II)
@@JordanKeuring thank you for the clarification, I likely misheard however I had originally thought I heard a sample of a combine overwatch effect from HL2. That caught me up when I was listening to it in economics class.
that was worth the wait. I really love this literally a lot! at 1:01:40 is my favorite part, idk why but its just so good the clarity moment! You did a really good job on the album 9.5/10
I felt so excited when I first heard it, and so shocked as well. I was half paying attention to the album, but out of nowhere I start to hear drums fading in. And then there’s this really victorious melody that rises above all of the confusion. I always thought of it as like the patient giving dementia the finger, saying “I’m not done yet, you haven’t won, I can still hold on.”
this was phenomenal. probably some of the best post awareness ive heard in a long time. i love the use of the weather broadcasts to portray the condition worsening and things getting more intense. my favourite use of it is in L1, the pure distortions on it and the voice scrambling midway through is just perfect. if anyone is curious, my parts are at 54:53 and 1:00:23 sampling "I Talk to the Wind" by King Crimson. they are the panning distorted drums
OHHHH BOY All the chaos is raining down I may not have a paragraph to type for this, but wow this is gonna be a little terrifying to listen and finish. Here goes nothing. Oh and I can't wait for the other stages
"beyond, make- up said now that it is such a complicated problem, and it has gone so far- requitoir repitoir- problem, so far" thats what i can make out
0:09 "...such a complicated problem. And it has gone so far..."
56:26 Final recording of the Kaua'i O'o bird. It already hit hard but this made it hit even harder.
55:55*
"It's such a complicated problem that have gone up so far"
I love those bumpers
"Only now, it is such a complicated problem, and it has gone so far- [unintelligible] so far- so far"
I like how the radio in the beggining says "It is such a complicated problem, and it is gone so far...", like it says about dementia itself
I'm pretty sure most of the bumpers have symbolism actually
i like how M1 is at the exact midway point of the album
Happy 2nd birthday Year 5
the tornado warning at the start of L1's mad creepy
it's like the small part of the patient that's still somewhat intact is screaming at them like "HOLY SHITTTTT ITS HAPPENING"
23:53 This voice event announces about a tornado warning, even if it should've been issued long earlier, while being incredibly distorted. It reflects on how it was too late for the patient to see that figurative and literal storm over their heads, and only now they realize their fate. But it won't matter, because they will just forget about the worsening tornado in their mind, because that said tornado rips apart all sense of recollection, so they don't even know what a storm is.
thats deep
i like how this handles having a somewhat coherent memory among all the chaos at first. A lot of fan projects, even great ones i really like, either do a "stage 3.5" where singular memories are drawn out and decayed in ways that don't fit how alzheimer's actually works, or claim to be gradual but shift straight into a completely non coherent memory-filled PA in a way that also doesn't match how alzheimer's works
This actually feels like someone holding on to memories the best they can as things are failing.

“such a complicated problem and it has gone so far”
Wow Jordan
"...too long- ...upside down because of the only- ... such a complicated problem, and it is gone so far..."
The beginning of the 5th year is full awareness that the disease is progressing and has already gone so far that now even the thought that this is the end sounds distant and broken.
I don't know what to say about it, it's done really cool, I haven't listened for year 5, but one beginning already makes it clear that this is the end, then it only gets worse.

The beginning of L1 is fucking terrifying, the patient dispite then being in the downward spiral, is aware of their own spiral, despite how disoriented they are.

Year 5. The release date is June 11th, 2022. I have now reached the post-awareness stages, and like last time, I will jot down timestamps of things that I’ve heard throughout the albums. Let’s start with Year 5, shall we?
Three years remaining.
K1
0:09 - “It is such a complicated problem, and it has gone so far…”
0:18 - “Fought so damn hard…”
0:44 - What are those vocals in the background? I can’t make it out.
1:13 - Smooth Operator & Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic. One deadly duo.
1:50 - What was that in the right ear? I must be hearing things.
4:01 - I think that might’ve been A1 that played here; can’t be certain
6:45 - That is definitely A1, with some H6 thrown into the mix. Oh, I’m a poet; I didn’t know it.
K2
8:59 - Stone In Focus…wait how do I know this?
10:16 - Just keeping this timestamp in mind.
11:05 - This might be my favorite part of K2. No reason.
12:05 - Drones, they simply just come out of nowhere. At The Millennium Of Space. Redux.
12:26 - Some goofy ahh vocals but they’re quiet.
14:09 - Actually, change that. This might be my favorite part of K2. And again, for no reason.
K3
17:17 - I’m in the mood for some Killer Watts. Wait, how do I know this?
19:18 - Droning, droning, droning. We sure do love our drones! Right?
21:16 - Some more drones being in focus…or maybe it’s just one.
21:59 - What is that in my right ear? I kind of liked that actually.
L1
23:52 - “WE HAVE ISSUED A TORNADO WARNING.
No reason.
L2
33:08 - “And I’ll do almost anything, that you want me to, ooh.
44:34 - He is still standing and looking like a true survivor. Not for long…
M1
48:42 - The halfway point of the album. No, I’m not joking.
50:19 - Can’t really make it what the samples are here, but I’ll just put this here anyway.
52:08 - Gee, aggressive much?
52:50 - Marking this down…
54:07 - Like D2 of the original NATMOS, Make It Like A Memory is continuously played as the years/stages progress. No matter how broken it is.
54:12 - “I Talk To The Wind…”
55:55 - 😳
56:09 - That’s the…Kauai O’o bird, calling out not knowing he was the last of his species…my god.
Don’t know.
1:06:25 - “Layla…you got me on my knees…Layla…I’m begging now and please…Layla…darling won’t you ease my worried mind…?”
1:10:25 - Oh how I wish it would rain down. Another song I am too familiar with.
N1
1:13:34 - Sounds familiar…
1:16:12 - Something in the distance that I can’t make out…
1:17:15 - What could that melody be?

If I had one word to describe Year 5, it would be: Well-Crafted. Cheers.

If it helps, the voices at 0:44 is from Steve Roach’s “It’s gonna rain part 2” but I can’t tell what the vocals are saying
Hey, you gave me an idea with your profile photo Lacey, it would be perfect to sample in a dementia project
You were totally right about 1:18:36 being money!! Take Five should be in there somewhere
I love the cassette "scratches" in the intro, i always tried to do something like that but i never got the opportunity, glad to see that idea in a proyect with so much passion as this one
34:29 C5 is audible in this timestamp.
man this is great. the voice at the beginning, even declaring "only now that the problem is so complex, and it has gone so far-" before cutting to a different clip. this shows a minimal awareness of the problem this early on in year 5. K2 's distorted A1 is significant in a way. K3 and K2 just consist of cutting music, suddely, something intelligble, for a few seconds, then its gone for a moment, maybe it comes back for a second, maybe not, but its all empty. with L1's title, we know thoughts are being simplified majorly. we hear what sounds like the moon landing (or some kind of radio transmission on a military walkie talkie?) to me, but immensly distorted. this shows that even extremely emotional and important memories, are being degraded towards an endless nothingness. more A1, and 2 shows no respectfully different anything. by M1, static is much more present. we hit a post aware state with K3, but that quickly decays to a "tune". near the end, static is all thats left.
based flixtocic opinion
L1's starting radio broadcast is a tornado warning
i think the voice, rather than saying 'only now that the problem is so complex and it has gone so far', i think it goes more like 'it's such a complicated problem and it has gone so far-'
I finally decided to listen to the post-awareness stages after listening again the previous years in a row.
And I must say... I can't find another day in paradise and whether I'm listening to it or not, this is very well done
I JUST DICOVERED THAT THIS PROJECT EXISTS AND I HAVEN’T LISTENED TO ANY O THE PREVIOUS ALBUMS BUT I AM SO EXITED FOR THE NEXT ONE
I cannot wait for the other years.
i actually based it on a 20 cassette carousel, but i really like your descriptions of the covers
and i will say that these covers definitley feel up to lots of interpretation
Bro year one is a radio alarm clock
prob my fav analysis of the album covers
love the interpretations on the covers
Your slow transition to the post awareness state has got to be the most well crafted piece I've seen yet! these kinds of songs are hard to make.
Does he know he have it?
@@johnyoutuber9781 he's taking meducation so yeah
The transition into post awareness is much smoother here than even the original Everywhere At The End Of Time, and that's a great accomplishment.
And it doesn’t even need a transition stage, unlike original EITBON and AATEOTC
That transition from King Crimson to that clarity is awesome. Idk how it’s so seamless from “I talk to the the wind” into Boston’s Smokin

@@Molten546 indeed
Year 1
Overall this year was what most could say was upmost chill and relaxing. See! Look! I can recall just fine!"
Year 2
Another weather forecast to start us off noting distant thunderstorms that immediately intrigued me.
Year 3
Another bumper, more distorted and seemingly distant.
Year 4 (SIDES G/H)
"And we'll likely enjoy every minute...minute...minute...minute".
This was a lovely read. Thank you for the kind words!

Honestly, I love the 2nd clarity so much, I decided to buy the entire album on vinyl. I don’t regret it.

No, what I mean is that I bought the original sample album (which is Boston’s Debut Album) because Smokin was used for the 2nd clarity

Nearing the end of the premiere. It's just so nice for there to be smooth transitions between tracks instead of a song to get thrown right at you immediately after one ends.
just realised that M1 samples the last recorded call of a now extinct species of bird called the kauaʻi ʻōʻō

9:50 Unless it is a different sample that just recreates the sound, the 'honking horn' sounds are from EATEOT stage 4.
The horn noises are from B6 of this project, EATEOT isn't sampled anywhere in this, or any of the other years
@@nw3473 cool! That’s really clever since it sounds so similar
I hear the person is just mostly zoning out and when he isn’t zoned out, he goes from topic to topic about problems and all
What?
@@jojothebard6687 he's talking about the radio bumper at the beginning
@@JordanKeuring that was what i thought about a year ago!
I have to say, even if it's not all complete yet, this is probably the best EATEOT-inspired project I've come across on TH-cam, and this is my favorite of the years yet.
So much of it is just so well thought out, and while at first it just sounds like a bunch of clashing instruments and whirring sounds, when you really dig into it there's so much meaningful stuff in it, I'm just going to list a bunch of awesome things in here that caught my attention
- Before even getting into the songs themselves, I immediately noticed just how different the structure of this album is from EATEOT Stage 4. "vignette of thoughts" or "time in between.")
- 00:00, they seem to know there is a "complicated problem" for a moment, but the knowledge of that fact doesn't seem to register with them since it keeps cutting out to the distorted drones almost the whole time.
Oh, that’s good to know. They do sound quite similar though
That was beautiful
@@NorwayTracking I think that was the point; it’s to probably give a false sense of knowledge of the stuff they know and don’t know, and it’s now affecting the most important memories of the victim

You bet, and fits extremely well
You outdid yourself keuring and the artists involved.
Thank you for the kind words by the way.
@@JordanKeuring thank you for the clarification, I likely misheard however I had originally thought I heard a sample of a combine overwatch effect from HL2. That caught me up when I was listening to it in economics class.
