Thank you for doing this interview with Adam Reader. I have been following him over 4 years. I still have my Rich Girl 45 my favorite song of yours. Best to you and thank you for all the great music all these years and to come.

DEAR MR. HALL: One of my favorite concerts, and my most bittersweet, was seeing Hall & Oates at the Indiana State Fair on Tuesday August 23, 1988. My fiancé had become my ex-fiancé after seven years together. Only 23 years-old at the time, I was heartbroken, crestfallen and very depressed over the breakup. She ended our relationship on August 20, 1988, but we had purchased tickets to the Hall & Oates concert. I have always been a fan, but Hall & Oates was my fiancé's very favorite. We decided to go together and it was the most painful experience of my young life. When they played the songs, "She's Gone", "Say It Isn't So", and others, it felt like my heart was in a vice. I held back the tears at the concert and the drive home until I dropped off my ex-fiancé at which point I burst into tears. However, this experience made me stronger and to appreciate relationships. A few years later I met the true love of my life, got married, and was never more happy. Time does heal all wounds. Thank you, Daryl, for such a wonderful, bittersweet memory.
Ahh…August 23. My baby daughter’s birthday, the day I was served divorce papers and the day my best friend died. No joke. She was born in 94, my best friend died in the most freak of gun accidents in 2022 and I was served last year…all on 8/23.
@@scottshoemake3941 In hindsight, perhaps. However, she had her ticket. Plus, it had only been 72-hours since the breakup and I was kind of hoping that she might reconsider.

You are doing the world a huge favor interviewing these legendary music figures, some, who may never do another interview again. Thanks, professor...one thing about all your interviews is the respect you bring to them, and the warmth and the genuine things they say to you. And I must say, they all seem to take a shine to you. Keep up the good work.
Their early music is absolutely their best, matter of fact I think You Make My Dreams Come True was the last of their great music, after that I really don't care for anything they did even the later releases from that album, but those early albums, yea, they were great.
Having grown up in the 70s through the 80s, Hall and Oates were definitely in the soundtrack of my life. Seeing the interview really shows how the creative mind of a truly talented and gifted artist works. They're on a different plane of existence than us mere mortals. Well done, professor!
Great interview! First time I’ve ever heard Daryl refer to John as “ Oates “ in my 45 years or so of following the band . That relationship is gone unfortunately. Cheers to their legendary music though 🥂
Shame bigtime. They had some fantastic bands and John pulled his weight in all of them - there were no passengers in those bands, on stage or in the studio, and John brought two of their biggest hits to the table: Out of Touch and Maneater, and he was 50-50 on She's Gone. 20 years ago he was up for giving John at least the credit but now? Nothing. Shame.
Soundtrack of our lives. 66 year old here, Hall & Oates are at the top of that particular tree. I understand why John was not mentioned due to legal reasons, we all hope that it is resolved sooner rather than later, these songs were a gift from them both. Thanks Professor, another great interview full of respect and knowledge from Adam.
After reaching a million subs I’m sure more artists would agree to interviews. I also noticed that there haven’t been any promos during his recent videos.
Big Hall and Oates fan. I even had the 45 of Dream Time when he went solo. One song I think does not get any love is Wait For Me. Best episode of Daryl's House is when Howard Jones played Things Can Only Get Better.
Hall & Oats music was such a massive part of my college years during the early 80's! That decade can never be replaced or replicated and I feel so fortunate to have lived through it while in my 20's ❤
What a great interview. Daryl Hall is a such a laid back, "humble" guy. It's a shame that he and Oates have had a falling out as they both seem like humble guys in their interviews.
Sorry for stealing from bon Jovi on this one! BUT STEVE PERRY IS THE VOICE! AND ALWAYS WILL BE IN MY OPINION!! AND I DON'T THink I STAND ALONE ON THIS!
Dude, I love Hall & Oates! They make up the tapestry of my youth. So important to me. I wish those two could just set aside their differences. They don’t have to record together. I just want them to be ok.
Thank you so much for doing this interview! I first saw Hall & Oates in the eighties when I was 16. I had a big crush on Daryl. I drew a picture of the two of them and got close enough to the stage to hand it to them. My favourite song is She's Gone. I have listened to it hundreds of times. I was fortunate enough to see Hall and Oates in concert a few times in the last 10 years before their split. Looking forward to part 2 of your interview.
I saw John Oates at the Rochester Jazz Festival a few months ago, and he won’t sign any CDs or albums or pictures with his former partner, only his Solo albums or Solo pictures, it’s like, dude I know you’re not getting along with him, but that’s what a majority of your money and fame comes from.
Hall has a restraining order on Oates. John is not allowed to call, email, text or even walk up to Hall in a coffee shop and say hello. Maybe Oates is just playing it safe.
One of the best concerts I attended was a Hall and Oates concert, 3-12-1982, Centennial Hall, Toledo, Ohio. I am a hard rock person. This concert kind of shocked me. The showmanship was EXCELLENT!!
Maybe it's the glasses, but now I want to see Darryl Hall and Jeff Lynne cut an album together. Or a double album of Jeff doing Darryl covers and Darryl doing Jeff/ELO covers.
Growing up listening to Daryl’s songs and voice always made me happy. I think he might have the best voice in the business hands down. Love his stories and watching Live from Daryl’s house. Continue to play my collection of Hall & Oats vinyl often. Adam, thank you for keeping the music alive. Great show! You are the best at what you do as well.
HALL & OATES, THE GREATEST DUO EVER!!! DARYL HALL HAS ONE OF THE BEST VOICES EVER!!! SARAH SMILE? HALL IS A NATIONAL TREASURE!!! BALLADS, UP TEMPO SONGS, NOTHING HALL & OATES COULDN'T DO!!! LONGEVITY, THEY WERE BEYOND COOL!!! BEYOND BLESSED TO HAVE HALL & OATES IN OUR LIFETIME!!!
There are some modern pop songs that hit, but if there’s a Top 40, probably only 1-3 of them are truly great songs (there are are probably 4-6 at any time though that are at least somewhat catchy and unique).
I am 59, I remember this song very well. I was raised in Conservative SC and remember flying ALONE to visit My Grandparents for a week in FLA near Ft. Lauderdale where The FLA DJs were playing it. As a young teen I was immediately thrilled to sing along to this song and have the opportunity to say CUSS words. Back then people just didn’t swear like is so common now. I got mad at my Grandmother when she caught me listening to records at a boys house down the street. She overheard me tell my friends that she was a bitch(my new word). I was sent back home early that year and I never got invited back. 😂
@mikelouis9389 , for me, my cool grandma was Maria, and my ultra-conservative grandma was Bridget, but nicknamed Bessie. By the way, I did date a Karen who was a "Karen."🤦♂️
That is so cool. If you want to see something really special, look for videos from Hall's series, "Live from Darryl's House," where he jams with all kinds of different rock stars. It's so awesome.
Darryl is one of the most amazing artists of all time, he can capture a feel of anything he is playing and completely run with it to create something great out of the air. You covered a lot of ground in this interview any one of all the songs you talked about could have been a complete episode. Now I absolutely need to go listen to his new album that I may have missed if not for your channel, I get so caught up in the music I listen to constantly and forget to listen to the new music being released. Great episode!!!
I couldn't agree with you more! Darryl has an amazing voice and can convey such soul. I've loved him for years and have been looking forward to this interview from our Prof. for a long time! Much love xxx
Leland you are truly a legend, the bass guru of our lifetime. I can't imagine how cool it must have been to play with such consummate professionals. That's one thing I've always taken from seeing Daryl's performances. They denote such dedication to the craft a real musician's musician if you will. I couldn't think of any bassist that would so easily fit in with them. Thank you for your life's work, I've been a big fan for decades. Many blessings, Sir....
When I saw the picture of Darryl Hall, and saw the tag line 'the Bass Line That Capsized the 80's', I thought for sure you must've been talking about Maneater!
Gotta love the Little House reference! I truly hated Harriet and Nellie and sympathized with Nels - then there was that twisted episode where the kids thought Nels chopped of Harriet's head! That show could get dark at times...
The beauty about all songs is when we hear them we own them and we apply them to our own experiences in life rather than what the musicians actually wanted the message to be to us. Just Awesome!
I was a fan back then, but rediscovered him with his "Live From Daryl's House" series. it was just so very cool, the band was tight ,and they mixed in some of the stuff that went on between takes. After the band, crew and guests all sitting down and breaking bread and usually some adult beverages. Just such a "real" feel to it. It broke my heart when his sidekick and band director T-Bone Wolk passed away suddenly, their chemistry was just so special.

I don’t know how you do it Adam, but you keep on outdoing, no, FAR outdoing yourself with these interviews! Obviously with the non stop string of big hits from the late 1970s through the entire 1980s, Daryl Hall and John Oates’ music is connected to endless memories for millions. Again, having been a nightclub DJ from the late 1970s until the mid 1990s, Daryl’s music is very much woven into my soul. I could never go wrong playing their music even well into the 1990s. It was always a crowd pleaser. I had an alternative music night that I did at our club in Bellevue, Washington with Seattle’s “The End -107.7” radio every Thursday night. Each week one of their air personalities would join me in the DJ booth as I played a lot of the music that station featured, like Screaming Trees, Toad the Wt Spricket, Smashing Pumpkins, Living Color, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane’s Addiction, plus the local favorites Soundgarden, Nirvana, Mookie Blaylock/Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone, The Gits, etc. Even with that playlist I would always slip in something by Daryl Hall and John Oates. Even THAT crowd ate it up! Again, once again you have outdone yourself with this interview. I’m looking forward to the second half of it! THANKS SO MUCH! Oh, and @realdarylhall, thank you for doing this interview with Adam, and for all of the wonderful, timeless music! I speak blessings beyond imagination over you and yours in Jesus’ name. 🎶🎹☝🏼
I always enjoyed his solo song "Dreamtime", but I also try not to listen to it much without listening to other music or I will have that song in my mind the whole day!
Outstanding. I LOVE hearing how songs, riffs, baselines, lyrics come about. And then so often the artist interpretation - meaning often blows my mind. Keep up the great work Adam. Not even work, just outstanding conversations.
Hall and Oates did more than just dominate a decade, their influence spilled all over the rest of the industry. Anybody who was anybody was influenced by their unstoppable grooves. Heck of a score, Professor! Awesome interview!
My Mother didn’t like the rock of the 70s, she preferred country and would yell at us if she heard anything that even sounded like rock music, imagine my surprise when she visited my husband and me in Philadelphia when I was expecting my first child, she was walking through our apartment and belted out “she’s a rich bitch girl!” She asked me to take her to see Hall and Oates, they were playing there soon, I didn’t like crowds but was so surprised that she even knew this song much less wanted to go to a rock concert, I am 66 and have actually never gone to a concert, I know that I have missed out on a lot but I don’t regret it. I think Sh’s Gone is my favorite Hall and Oates song, they have a unique sound that can never be duplicated, thanks for the interview, I love to see and hear from the ones who wrote and sang those wonderful songs that bring back so many memories, you did it again Adam, great show.
Like everyone, I knew Hall & Oates from the radio but when I saw them opening for ELO on their '81 Time tour they totally blew me away, especially Daryl and the whole band's energy. I didn't go out and buy their albums, but when they came back to town as headliners the next year I damn sure bought my ticket early.
I believe the reason all of these top notch artists like talking to you is because you don’t ask silly “gotcha” questions. You show much love and respect for them and their music. And you give them a chance to talk without nonstop interruptions. Well done Professor!
Awesome interview, Doc O' rock! Although I grew up in Central New York State, I attended Penn State University Park starting in 1974, so I got a preview of what took the rest of the country a little longer to come to appreciate, But appreciate we all do! One of my bud's from Hanover, PA turned me on to the War Babies and Abandoned Luncheonette albums which are still 2 of my favorite albums of all time. Looking back, it wasn't just Hall And Oates. it was the charisma of the whole Philadelphia music scene in the 1960's and 70's, arguably on a par with the Motown sound with brilliant songwriters and producers working with extremely talented artists. One track that I believe captures some of the city's essence, but never got, or will it ever get much air play is "Another Fall In Philadelphia". I like how you always make reference to a tracks "staying power". In my opinion, Darryl Hall and John Oates have a whole music library loaded with staying power!
Daryl has been my constant for 50 years. Good times, bad times, no matter what, there was a Daryl Hall song soothing my soul. During the last Hall and Oates concert I went to I was delighted to see how they spanned generations. Grandparents dancing and singing with their children and their children's children...beautiful❤
I love this! Great stories behind the songs. I treasure my Daryl Hall and John Oates albums. I am glad I was able to see them live in the 90s. They improvise and jam the songs.
What a legend! I had a mad crush on Daryl back in the day. Hall & Oates are still the best selling musical duo OF ALL TIME. That is nothing to sneeze at, boys! You didn't mention my favorite song, though there are too many hits to talk about. How about "Method of Modern Love"? I've watched that video about a jillion times. Glad to see Daryl is still making music! Great interview, Professor!
I knew immediately you were covering Hall & Oates from your blind intro. Love Darryl Hall. I saw Hall & Oates Live a few years ago. It was a great concert. I'm so sad that they're at war with each other after all of the years of friendship and collaboration. Great interview. Thanks, Adam.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980, I didn't. Too ugly. And frankly, based on what little I know about it, I think Hall is being ridiculous. I have no idea why he thinks Oatrs owed him any advanced notice of his intent to sell his share of their music library. And even if Hall's feelings were hurt over it, why is he suing? What is that going to serve? It's all just so petty.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 , this is what Hall claims his "damages" are as a result of Oates choosing to sell his share of the business: "Hall claims the 'bad faith conduct' by Oates has created 'tremendous upheaval, harm, and difficulty in my life, not to mention unnecessary expense and burden,' according to Hall’s declaration." I mean, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 OMG, you big baby, grow up! Does that basically say, "He hurt my feefees," or is it just me? Hahaha!
OMG!! You got Daryl Hall! Nicely done. They have so many hits, and have been with us since the 70's. Wait For Me is my absolute favorite. No one has a voice like Daryl's. I just have to hope that these two gifted men can some day find the common ground to forgive, and go to heaven as the team we always knew them to be. Thanks Professor, loved this one.
Wow...I feel so much gratitude and appreciation for artists sharing their talents and gifts with the world. Daryl Hall and Hall & Oates are definitely a major part of the soundtrack of my life. From the bottom of my heart, Daryl....THANK YOU!!!
Rich Girl just had such a cool Motown-soul vibe to it! As a kid, I thought of it and Elton's "The Bitch is Back" as the "B" songs... Funny you discuss it!
Daryl Hall played here in the philippines last year, I'm an eighteen year old boy and loved their songs back when I was 6. That was a dream come true, the front act was Todd Rundgren. Beside me is the president of the philippines. Hahaha! a night to remember.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Great interview! I love seeing these artists being themselves. Not on a stage. Sometimes I'll like the artist, but not necessarily for their works. They may have great ideas about other issues. They may have humor. I love humor! LOL I like Hall and Oates, but they weren't on my list of favorites. I liked their hits, but didn't love them. LOL Anyway, have a most awesome day!!!! ☺️
Just finished watching Rick Beato’s interview with Rick Rubin. They, just like Darryl, also talked about how many songs became hits just based off the Demo itself. I love hearing how song ideas came to be. Great interview Professor!
Hey Pro, There Was an Interview With Current Steve Miller Band's Guitarist Kenny Lee Lewis, and back in '79, he was in an obscure Blue-Eyed Soul group called Pieces, he claimed in the interview the time they came out with their album and I quote "The Blue-Eyed Soul Sound went away, Not for us, but guys like Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald and many others and Sexual acts like Adam Ant, Boy George, Prince, The Cure, Duran Duran came at the scene, when "My Sharona" by the Knack came out. That was the end of that." Uh, What Is He Talking About, Hall & Oates had a bunch of hits when the 80s came (Like the ones you mentioned in this video) And also Michael McDonald with "I Keep Forgettin" and the Doobies in 1980 with "Real Love" He sounds like he's re visioning history + Some of those acts didn't become big till the 80s and second, the Knack was on the charts same time when ballads and R&B and Yacht Rock was ruling the charts.
My son, who will be 23 in Dec., purchased Hall & Oates Greatest Hits for his first cd to go into his first vehicle. And although his musical taste has varied over the years, Hall & Oates will always be a staple for him. I just hate we didn't get to see them in Charlotte due to COVID. That would have been a fantastic memory.
Yeah. I saw Darryl being interviewed on Bill Maher’s podcast, “Club Random” and I could sense there was no love loss between he and Oates, and Darryl had to set Maher straight that, although they were a duet, “most of the songs were his (Darryl’s).” Maher made a comment where he mistakenly assumed those great H & O hits were collaborations, rather than one of them writing the majority of the songs.
Love this interview Adam, and looking forward to part II. Thanks too to Daryl.....what a treat to hear and learn how you were inspired to write these gems that shaped my adolescence. Super cool to hear your perspective with some of this close to a half century on! My personal favorite is without a doubt "Soul Alone"....the whole album is just scrumptious! I was introduced to it almost 25 years ago by a dear friend who has since passed on. One of the nicest gifts he ever gave me. Every time I listen to the album, I'm transported to this time. And it sparks emotions in me no other album can. It is a masterpiece I hope someday to share with a soul mate, and have it affect her as deeply as it does me. It is for albums like this that I realize a musician can do so much more than sell us a record. They can touch our hearts in a very profound way. Thank you Daryl!
Kudos for landing the interview - Daryl is def 1 cool-ass dude - I liked their hits, and his vox on You Burn Me Up (I'm a cigarette) on the Robert Fripp album - EVERYBODY: Give it a listen!!!
Hall & Oates were so big during my teen years and have such a strong hold on my musical side. Anytime I hear any of their songs I instantly sing along.
Thanks Adam! I really appreciate that you have now finally spoken with both of my favorite Rock/Pop/R&B vocalists, the other besides Hall being Paul Carrack. Been waiting for this. Great work!!
Hall and Oates are from my area. John Oates is from North Wales Pa. He went to my High School. Way before me. But coming from a really tiny town like North Wales or Pottstown PA (like, Daryl Hall). Proves that in America you can be born anywhere and make it.
I used to live in North Wales, but grew up in Philly. Loved these guys from the early days, so many great songs, but "Fall in Philadelphia" from "Whole Oats" in 1972 is still a sentimental favorite. It also appears on "The Early Years" collection along with "Perkiomen", another cool tune with a local connection.
Good episode! I have always been a fan of Daryl Hall. Im a fan of John Oats as well. People don't realize how good of a guitar player John is. But he is very good. Extremely tasteful player. I hear he has a nice collection too. Id love to see it.
When I was in grad school 'round 1986-1987 I would walk to my classes listening to Hall & Oates' Big Bam Boom in my walkman. I would always find my walking rhythm listening to "Out Of Touch". I don't know why but my step would always find itself moving to its beat every time 😋 Love their music..!!
I think the first song with a profanity was Bad Bad Leroy Brown by Jim Croce, which contained the word "damn." It seems very tame now, but radio stations banned it back then.
The Bitch is Back? Elton John put it in the title. Steppenwolf practically screamed god damn the pusher man. I guess it depends on who's making the judgment on what a swear word is.
My next-door neighbor won tickets to Hall & Oates on the radio in the 1980’s and took me along. It was my first concert ever, and I was absolutely thrilled to find out all those songs I loved on the radio were Hall & Oates songs! I had no idea until that night, so it was a wonderful surprise. Daryl’s vocal ornamentation is tops.
Hard to pick a best song from H2O, but my favorite will always be "Some Things are Better Left Unsaid". If you ever get a chance to interview him again, it would be great to hear his thoughts on this song, as well as the Liberty Concert that H2O headlined on July 4th, 1985 (9 days before the final show at Live Aid on July 13th, 1985). That must've been some week for him! Have a good one!
Saw H&O many times in the 70’s when I was in college. They were always playing when they lived around Washington Square Park. No tour needed, they just scheduled a concert somewhere around NY. Saw Darryl this past summer - like I was in college again! One of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time.
Great talking to you, Adam.

Great interview! First time I’ve ever heard Daryl refer to John as “ Oates “ in my 45 years or so of following the band . That relationship is gone unfortunately. Cheers to their legendary music though 🥂
It really sucks.
And he said most of the songs are his.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 agree
Surprised he didn't say, "Mr. Oates"...
Nothing. Shame.
I was a rocker back then, but Hall & Oates was always in the background. Great interview.
Wow you got Daryl hall to do an interview lol wild love it
Awesome!
He’s getting EVERYBODY this year!
After reaching a million subs I’m sure more artists would agree to interviews. I also noticed that there haven’t been any promos during his recent videos.
I never heard you mention "Daryl's House", some great music coming out of there.
Big Hall and Oates fan. I even had the 45 of Dream Time when he went solo. One song I think does not get any love is Wait For Me.
Best episode of Daryl's House is when Howard Jones played Things Can Only Get Better.
Gonna put in my vote for the one with Cee Lo on No Can Do.
Daryl is a phenomenal soul singer.
Yes he is!
He is the OG "blue eyed" soul frontman.❤
One of the best in his field.
I will always love Hall and Oats! Classic 80’s awesomeness!
They had a few biggies in the 70s ALSO ,,,,,,,,,IN 70s greatness
Hall & Oats music was such a massive part of my college years during the early 80's! That decade can never be replaced or replicated and I feel so fortunate to have lived through it while in my 20's ❤
What a great interview. Daryl Hall is a such a laid back, "humble" guy. It's a shame that he and Oates have had a falling out as they both seem like humble guys in their interviews.
They sound so nice.
I'm tellin ya. It was the mustache. Once that thing went off to be a super hero, Daryl couldn't handle it. He never wanted to talk to John again.
FLAT OUT, THANKS FOR THIS INTERVIEW!!!!! MORE LIKE THIS PLEASE, AND IF YOU CAN GET"THE VOICE" OF JOURNEY ,THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Oates suffers from "Second Banana Syndrome."
Sad they have come to this in their later years.
That is weird.
Hall has a restraining order on Oates. John is not allowed to call, email, text or even walk up to Hall in a coffee shop and say hello. Maybe Oates is just playing it safe.
It's not that kind of restraining order.@@mfc1212us
I got this one pretty quickly. Hall & Oates, "Rich Girl." Great tune, great duo. ☝️🤠
Squeeee! I LOVE their earlier songs!❤
I will only refer to it as the “b” word.
Thanks for choosing music as a career Daryl! You rocked my journey through life. Thanks for the ride! Keep rockin'!
Daryl Hall's "Dreamtime" (1986) sounded a bit like E.L.O. btw. The chord changes, the string section, all very Lynne-ish.
Daryl Hall has been such a big part of the soundtrack of our lives!
Thank you Daryl!

Am I the only one that still get's chills from songs from the 60's-90's and haven't felt that since?
I was wondering the same thing about myself LOL
Me too, born in the '70s, but the 1960s to 1990s seems to be when creativity was at its peak (although, I loved fifties Elvis when I was a kid 😊)
Nope. Very, very few songs after 2000 affect me the way the great songs of my crazy MTV fueled youth do.
There are some modern pop songs that hit, but if there’s a Top 40, probably only 1-3 of them are truly great songs (there are are probably 4-6 at any time though that are at least somewhat catchy and unique).
She’s Gone
Top 5 all time!!!
Keep up the good work getting these interviews. They are just what us music junkies need! Darryl is so fun to listen to.
Glad you like them!
One of the best voices in music ever, and its like he doesn't even realize how good he is
I am 59, I remember this song very well.
Thanks for sharing.
Grandmas are supposed to be cooler than that. I had a cool grandmother and an ultra-conservative grandmother.
Haha no kidding!
Was her name Karen? Just asking. 😂
@mikelouis9389 , for me, my cool grandma was Maria, and my ultra-conservative grandma was Bridget, but nicknamed Bessie. By the way, I did date a Karen who was a "Karen."🤦♂️
One of my all time fav groups . Still. Bet there were some close seconds. ....ohh the great hits around that time. Just awesome.
Most of their most talked about songs are from the 70s though ,Sara Smile ,Rich Girl,Shes Gone,
I found Daryl Hall and John Oates because of this channel. Thank you, Professor.
That is so cool. If you want to see something really special, look for videos from Hall's series, "Live from Darryl's House," where he jams with all kinds of different rock stars. It's so awesome.
Darryl's voice is phenominal. I love his cover of the Spinner's " I'll be Around" so good.
Love this interview! Thank you, Mr Hall, for all the great songs! Some of the darkest days of my life were brightened by your music.
Out of Touch is my favorite Hall and Oats song. Reminds me of my first love that was never going to work but we couldn't give it up.
We talked about that one. Coming in part 2!

That's one thing I've always taken from seeing Daryl's performances. They denote such dedication to the craft a real musician's musician if you will. I couldn't think of any bassist that would so easily fit in with them. Thank you for your life's work, I've been a big fan for decades. Many blessings, Sir....

He seems really humble and a regular guy. Great interview. Didn’t hear him mention “She’s Gone” which is my favorite H & O song.
When I saw the picture of Darryl Hall, and saw the tag line 'the Bass Line That Capsized the 80's', I thought for sure you must've been talking about Maneater!
I did too, even though that one isn't my favorite of theirs
I thought it would have been 'I can't go for that' - that is bass gold !

One of my favorite concerts ever was the Big Bang Boom tour... Atlanta 1984.
Gotta love the Little House reference! I truly hated Harriet and Nellie and sympathized with Nels - then there was that twisted episode where the kids thought Nels chopped of Harriet's head! That show could get dark at times...

Yeah!
The beauty about all songs is when we hear them we own them and we apply them to our own experiences in life rather than what the musicians actually wanted the message to be to us. Just Awesome!
Hey Adam, another great interview! Woo!! 😎
Thanks for watching!
That original setting for the show from his old house in Millerton NY.
Hall & Oates the dynamic duo

Just sad that there is no more talent like this group today. Thank you for the most excellent interviews POR! You are the greatest!
You're welcome!
Thanks!
I believe the reason all of these top notch artists like talking to you is because you don’t ask silly “gotcha” questions. You show much love and respect for them and their music. And you give them a chance to talk without nonstop interruptions. Well done Professor!
If you remember when ACE was the place with your helpful hardware MAN, you are going to dig this channel.
@Nnn0cxf...you mean before they got PC or what they call WOKE today and made helpful hardware FOLKS.....
Hahaha
I remember when Ace was a band that did the r&b song, "How Long"...
I got a part time job there in about ‘94 and the change to “folks” was fairly fresh. So wierd and unnecessary
I couldn't name all of their hits, but I bet I know all the words!
Daryl has been my constant for 50 years. Good times, bad times, no matter what, there was a Daryl Hall song soothing my soul.
@@jillwklausen it really is a bit far fetched, I agree with you.

Thanks for sharing.
"Most of the songs are mine!" Shots fired!
Darryl is my favorite of all time. I never turn one of his songs off and he’s a true pro so versatile. Great episode having him on Prof!

Hall and Oates are from my area. John Oates is from North Wales Pa. He went to my High School. Way before me. But coming from a really tiny town like North Wales or Pottstown PA (like, Daryl Hall). Proves that in America you can be born anywhere and make it.
That's right!

Love their music..!!
I think the first song with a profanity was Bad Bad Leroy Brown by Jim Croce, which contained the word "damn." It seems very tame now, but radio stations banned it back then.
Damn vs B^tch
It really does.
