@Rob’s Relics Yep, I did a little creek walking near my place..albeit to no avail. It was a pleasant day weather wise. Oh and that's Samurai...right?

@@jeffnelson9420 this spot I was at was an old town. I’ll have to take you and dad over there sometime. A couple old chimneys, mill house, and freshwater springs. I’m sure there is some old money there.

Can't fault anything there. People would have used that area with the wide flat rocks, look good on them ,you might find where they 've ground tools or grains. Pretty place, Good Luck!

Yes sir. There was tons of bed rock in the creek bottoms. I found several freshwater springs so I know they were all around them. Thanks for the comment!

Greetings Rob. I really find the cylinder (conroid stem) round section to be very rare & interesting. I understand that reeds could be used to drill large beads or pendants. The methodology involved a tough reed that may have been heat hardened. Fine grain sand would been put in the starter hole and the reed spun with two hands back and forth causing the reed, sand, and water to slowly drill a hole into the stone bead/pendant. Usually the conroid stone would not be as large as your find. To me this makes it rare to me and makes me think it was a large pendant. The hole drilled was then smoothed out. Great find!

That is a possibility, I thought it was going to be some sort of modern drill bit before I picked it up but it is fossilized and I found another one just like it. It would not surprise me if it was used by natives as a prehistoric drill bit. Thanks for the comment!

Rob, tks for your communication. What I was referring to was the conroid stem being the drilled out piece that the reed would surround as the drilling process took place. Sort of a left over core. I would imagine that reeds would probably wear out and be replaced during the drilling process. I have reconstructed the process of drilling with flint drills but never experimented with the use of reeds. I really should experiment with the reed process and collect information on it. As a Lithic Technologist most of my research has delt with the fracture mechanics involved in stone tool making. (Flint knapping/pecking & grinding). I have no idea what the other objects are that look like modern drills. Fascinating if they are made of stone. Perhaps they are fossils? Very interesting objects.

@@jimajello1028 I see what you are saying now. I’ll have to do some research myself and see if I can find anything on the reed drilling. That’s why I like walking the creeks, never know what you’ll find.
