I’ve used almost every brand out there. Makita hits that sweet spot with more than enough power but with low vibration and a refined feeling unlike any other tool brand in the same class. They may not be the prettiest tools with all the bells and whistles but the inside of the tool is probably the best engineered. Now they just need to make all their older tools brushless like the right angle drill.

Makita can use 21700 in line with the tool, on two rows, and 3x21=63 so even less then 65mm. But with only 5 cells on two rows the size is bigger then with 10 x 1865, the weight is not much better - Bosch 4Ah pro core weights 550 grams since last year vs 631g for a normal 5Ah Makita. 4Ah pro core was 535g before and 515g spect...And with only 5x 2170 it also needs to be tabless, otherwise the normal 5Ah with 10x1865 is better... And with 10 cells on 4 rows it would be huge...
@ tough to follow, but I think I got it. 3x 2170 would fit, but the voltage is only 3/5th what you need. Perhaps if they paired them in a 3 on top of 2 call configuration, but that seems like it would work in the footprint of the 1865 but very unlikely to happen. 5 2170s is about equal in power to 10 cells of 1865 and at almost the same volume. @@MrWilliewonka69 what issue did you have with your multi-tool? Mine would not lock the blade on tight, I was thinking maybe the threads are dirty and they're not catching or maybe they're wore out on the pin that holds the blade in?
@kruse1105 issue one the head snapped off after that the secound issue is when the rebuilt it for me the clocked the head wrong so you can never put the blade on straight
@@kruse1105 Depends on what model you are using with regards to it being either the allan key lock or the lever lock? I worked with 2 people that had the allan key lock style and yeah what a nightmare those things appeared to be, slow to change blades, pain to tighten and eventually the hex slot cam's out and then you are screwed (or not as the case would be haha). If its this type then my response below may not be helpful to you, Im unsure as to how this one is as I dont have one myself. I, on the other hand have the lever lock style, which makes blade changes way quicker and smoother, especially when you change blades or rotate the angle as frequently as I do. However, a few months back I also noticed mine was starting to struggle... - Sometimes the pin wasn't pulling out at all, might take 5-10 mins+ to actually get it out, sometimes I would try to pry it out with a small flat blade screwdriver and even then it might not work. - Other times it was a task to actually get it to push in fully, if I wasnt paying attention it might have appeared to have been, I tighten it up and start it up, then as soon as I hit the surface you could tell it was rattling ever so slightly (Im not talking like completely floppy, it was still firmly attached to the tool but had like 0.5-1mm wobble in it that was an audiable rattle and didnt sound healthy). - Sometimes it just wasnt even locking at all until I had fiddled about with it a bit. The most common occurances was the first two issues, but as I said, swapping blades and attachments or most often, their positioning angles, started to become a HUGE issue when you are constantly needing to change angles (6 changes and I might be losing an hour of work time is just not acceptable!) After doing some research, I found a video of someone who had completely dismantled one of the heads (which was nearly impossible for him and Im not sure whether or not he managed to put it back together again either). But it was very useful to see how it was put together and the locking mechanism is like a collet split into 2 parts with groves in that clamps onto the grooves of the pin end as they are forced together, which is compromised if the tool head becomes full of dust and debris. This made a lot of sense, because one of the most common uses of the tool for me is sanding as 60-70% of my work is decorating, (orbital for main bulk of the work, multi-tool for details like corners, around fixtures, small bits or if I cant be bothered to pull out an extractor for the orbital when theres is only a small amount to be done haha), especially if you are doing sanding on ceilings, dust will work its way into the head. If I tapped the end with the pin out I could see noticable amounts of dust falling out, give it a few taps and there was a nice little mound of dust there. I can't remember exactly what I used to clean mine out, but if you try to use something like a tobacco pipe cleaner (fluffy wires) or something similar to loosen up the dust (plaster and wall filler is great at clumping itself together and sticking to stuff where you dont want it!!) then blow it out with a can of compressed air, a blower, a vacuum or even just some light taps to the side of the head just to knock the dust out should do it. Try it, if it is still not 100%, go at it again and then test again to see if it is any better. I did this and it is back to being as good as new now, no issues with releasing or locking the pin in place at all, comes out straight away, seats back into position with ease, but the sheer amount of dust that actually ended up coming out of that thing was astonishing o_O Even when I thought that must have been it, more still kept coming out!! I might have even cleaned it and tried it like 5 times altogether before I had finished, even when it was working like normal again, I cleaned it again and still more dust came pouring out. Hopefully this helps you fix your issue ^_^
I have my brushless impact and hammer drill for years with some of my batteries that are roughly 12 years old and they are still going strong, wish I could say the same for 1 of my Milwaukee batteries that only lasted a couple of years, I just wish that Makita would come out with a 12 volt size like Milwaukee has
There's no need to worry about those batteries. You can switch the cells inside by yourself - they're commonly available online - and a battery shop can replace them for you. Usually when you battery runs out earlier than expected there's just 1 or maybe 2 bad cells that need replacement. And you can also build a wall adapter from a powerful (but not so accurate) (maybe lab) power supply and an old battery case. I predict the tool and its battery attachment wears out sooner than you have to worry about these thing.
I don't understand why they don't bring out some longer life LXT batteries. 8ah, 9ah. Milwaukee do. I could live with the larger physical size of them if it meant longer run time
LXT for life! Have too many to count that het used/ abused in my remodel business. Will get the new 20 eventually, and definitely the new framing nailer. My only "gripe" would be the longevity of the newer batteries. I swear i have some older 4ah batts that out perform some newer 5 ah units
Eh. Let's see if they get down to earth with their pricing. I love my Makita's but they have been long in the tooth for a long time. I just entered the M-12 Fuel realm and I'll be needing to start replacing my aging 18v LXT tools soon but I don't see what Makita has to offer over the other brands that make them demand their prices. When a brushless 12v out works a 3 year old 18v LXT I feel kind of silly investing in new LXT tools for my 18v -20 v tools.
Welcome. Been a Milwaukaholic since 2005 with M28. Got my first M12 drill and radio in 09. Still have both and still work great. I still have the 2 original batteries and they still work. I just hope they can come up with a way to keep the battery platform. They're going to have to change something soon
Longevity and repairability? I saw a TH-cam video of someone who repairs tools for a living (pretty much all brands) and he said that quality and repairability on Milwaukee M18 has gone down drastically since 2021. Maybe ergonomics, but I expect that is very dependent from person to person. Otherwise I don't really know why you would if the M12 works for you.
I loved the tools but swapped to dewalt because of the shit clips and hard plastic on the storage boxes... when it's freezing in the back of the van, your thumbs are in pain opening, and locking them boxes.
I've noticed that on Dean's tool repair channel. He's from Ireland but I guess it's the same story there along with a lot more Bosch than we see in America. Here Milwaukee is the king along with DeWalt. Bosch and Makita are available but far less common than Milwaukee and DeWalt. FLEX is also coming on strong. Makita's pricing is killing them over here especially their battery pricing compared to Milwaukee, DeWalt and FLEX which are always offering deals. Makita's deals suck in comparison and their batteries are 15 year old technology compared to the tabless cells and stacked lithium cells introduced by their competitors.
Hello 👋 VCG I have a love Cringe relationships with Makita. There saws are some of the best in the business, but then Makita turns around and makes the plastic stick thing there trying 🤔 to pass off as an 18V vaccum for $200.00 " Cringe". The NEW IMPACT !!! 😬 Love the light, the size, and the power. The electronics are way - way over thought !!!! Makita has had this new to the US market in Asia for 2 years. It's expensive. It's a nice tool with to many electronic parts that can go wrong. I think for the money, German Metabo or Hilti or even Hitachi- Metabo's Triple Hammer are very good alternatives to the new Makita. Like I said, it's a love cringe type relationships. Love the video.
I would like Makita to make some larger LXT batteries. The Makita trimmer and blower need this. I never see their 6ah in Home Depot. I don’t know why they don’t try to market that battery more. Love my Makita tools best.
I'm already a Makita fan, but I wish they had bigger tools available in the United States. I prefer my whole wood shop be Makita. Cabinet table saw, joiner, etc. I also wish they had more hand tools available. I see some on Amazon but I kind of wonder if they're counterfeit.
Makita has always been the most powerful, I remember my first job in construction and back then the Makita drill with the big, long grips to hold the six C cell battery with the RC connector you had to plug in when changing the battery and today we got through our Dewalt and Milwaukee tools like they are throw aways the Milwaukee especially and the Mikita has been around for almost 7 years now and every tool still works and when it comes to hole saws we always go to the Mikita drill the Milwaukee's and the Dewalts smoke every time guaranteed. Makita just isn't into all the advertising and marketing wasteful spending the value is in their tools. I learned a long time ago when they show up to the jobsite on their first day and they got a pretty little tool bag of red tools that they only going to last a week.
I don’t need another impact driver I have like 10 or so but I do have a makita xtd09 I think that’s the model number it’s the made in Japan version and I love it so I’m gonna have to get one of these.
VGC we all know your not gonna drop the RED or your brother the YELLOW .....you like raw power lol..... But to answer your question in video --> in my depot they didnt put anything on SALE....where is the decent/good SALE...there wasent any!!!! Black friday, xmas They fail in that reguard But i do appreciate the non hate non bias in reviewing ...very important to keep that for me
Finally!!!!! I just noticed for the first time ever that you hold your impact driver exactly how I do. I use almost every tool with my middle finger on the trigger and my index on the tool body. It's strange to me that nobody else does that
I have many tools from all the major professional-grade manufacturers. If I could only have one, it would be Makita. They generally have the best combination of reliability, power, and erogonomics. Note that I did NOT claim that they are always #1 in power; however, I would say that they are rarely far behind. However, see the paragraph below: Even with the newest additions from Makita, I guarantee that the overweight, cognitively impaired, drunk/alchoholic (in my uncertified opinion) from Tool with SolAz will be claiming they are junk even before testing them. Having said that, he is right about one (and only one) thing: Makita's impact drivers are very underpowered compared to the other leading competetors. If I understood your statement correctly, it doesn't sound like Makita has any interest in correcting that problem. That frustrates me, because apart from their impact drivers and 12v line, Makitas tool are excellent performers.
Yo Vince! How ya *dern* ? I'm super excited Makita is still investing into their LXT platform. Last I checked, the LXT batteries use Sony battery cells vs their 40v XGT battery cells being made by Makita, themselves. I've heard complaints about the 40v batteries lasting half as long as LXT. 🤷♂️ I'm definitely a firm believer in Makita power tools and the LXT batteries. Only to be rivaled by m18 batteries with Samsung cells. I've had both brands with their 18v batteries for years and years and all is well with every single one of them. Peace and God be with you, my friend. 😁👍✌️
Here, the share of Makita users is 1% on the 40v platform. Everyone else is still and newly using the 18v system. The price difference is huge, the batteries work normally, the availability of tools and batteries in every tool store... For most customers, the 40v system is complete nonsense
Makita screwed up big time by changing battery platforms, should of did like milwaukee and dewalt and just upgrade batteries for compatibility now have to buy 2 different platforms frkm same brand😅
‘D be more impressed if parts costs were such that you didn’t have to bin the tool when a controller failed.! So much going to landfill because they’re “ uneconomical “ to repair.
Why wouldn’t you get info about 18V batteries? Literally every other brand even low grade brands are using higher capacity cells. This drill apart from the collet has been out in the eastern hemisphere for a year now. Makita needs to get off their butts and give their users what they need and that’s higher capacity batteries for LXT.
@vcgconstruction I like the simpler, less flashy video style Vince. Simple and to the point. Helps that I like my Makitas but I'm not a fanatic either, multiple platforms over here.
Makita 18v has fallen behind. Their batteries are almost 10 years behind in development. This is one of the reasons why I decided not to get into it after I ditched Bosch. Dewalt and Milwaukee for me. Makita 40v seems much better, but expensive
Just sold the majority of my Makita to my friend, already am invested in M12, so bought some m18 fuel to replace Makita. They're non existent in America, and their holiday deals were terrible this year. Done with makita
Also purchased some Ridgid brushless this year, which I am extremely happy with. Lifetime warranty on tool and battery is nice, very high quality. Best multi tool out
Who cares? I will be more impressed if Mikita bought out some sort of adaptable. That will allow me to use my L XT batteries with my xdt Drills or vice versa thats how you will keep your customers.
And I have a message for Makita. I'M DONE WITH YOU. I can buy two Milwaukee Forge batteries using the latest technology a 12 A-h and 8 A-hr for $249. To buy two 6 A-hr old school Makita batteries still using 18650 cells I've got to pay $267. I bought two DeWalt 5.0 Powerstack batteries for $150. Makita is nuts if they think people are going to allow them to rape them on batteries and stay with the brand. Their Christmas specials were particularly lame this year as well featuring 4.0 A-hr batteries which Milwaukee doesn't even make anymore.
@harlanborders943 was about to say the same. They are much more affordable in the rest of the world. I'm guessing US tariffs are too high, or it's just not profitable for them to charge less here ?
2 Makita 6 ah batteries are cheaper at Home Depot Canada vs USA. Makes no sense because almost everything is more expensive up here vs USA. One 12 ah Forge is listed more than the 2 Makitas combined. Weird.
@@UncleIvan1 I thought the Milwaukee batteries were made in China? Surely they should also have tariffs in that case, or are Milwaukee batteries made in the US for the US market, or maybe Mexico? If they are made in the US or Mexico, tariffs would make sense.
The comment section here would be full of hate and be all negative for the makita brand on Tool Review Zone. Channel So I stopped watching that channel. I love my Makita CXT, LXT and XGT power tools.

The most common occurances was the first two issues, but as I said, swapping blades and attachments or most often, their positioning angles, started to become a HUGE issue when you are constantly needing to change angles (6 changes and I might be losing an hour of work time is just not acceptable!)
After doing some research, I found a video of someone who had completely dismantled one of the heads (which was nearly impossible for him and Im not sure whether or not he managed to put it back together again either).
Makita just set the bar in current uses in home and work platforms
I don't understand why they don't bring out some longer life LXT batteries. 8ah, 9ah. Milwaukee do. I could live with the larger physical size of them if it meant longer run time
There is an adapter to go from XGT to LXT , but I don’t have the specifics on if it’s only for charging purposes. Happy hunting.
LXT is the perfect size. I still have some of my original 3 ah batteries that are over 15 years old and work great. I use 12 Milwaukee and 18 Makita.
LXT for life! Have too many to count that het used/ abused in my remodel business. Will get the new 20 eventually, and definitely the new framing nailer. My only "gripe" would be the longevity of the newer batteries. I swear i have some older 4ah batts that out perform some newer 5 ah units
Good to hear!
Amen to that. I don’t understand their pricing on a lot of tools but especially their portable shop vac, yikes.
I loved the tools but swapped to dewalt because of the shit clips and hard plastic on the storage boxes... when it's freezing in the back of the van, your thumbs are in pain opening, and locking them boxes.
Ya see a lot of Makita here in England..🏴👍
Hello 👋 VCG
I have a love Cringe relationships with Makita.
Thanks for everything Stephen, I like hearing your opinions!
I would like Makita to make some larger LXT batteries. The Makita trimmer and blower need this. I never see their 6ah in Home Depot. I don’t know why they don’t try to market that battery more. Love my Makita tools best.
xdt 14 is sweet so is the xdt 16 - two of the best impacts
Does this mean the next model of the 40v will share a lot of the same features as this one?
Makita says they'll continue to support LXT . Where is the LS002 40V Mitre saw in 36V version?
Ive had the japanese model for over a year and love mine. We need better batteries for the LXT line. Full stop.periode
Yeah, they have tab-less batteries for XGT. It'd be nice if they did that to LXT as well.
I have td173dz 18v , My favorite impact. 😊
I'm already a Makita fan, but I wish they had bigger tools available in the United States. I prefer my whole wood shop be Makita. Cabinet table saw, joiner, etc. I also wish they had more hand tools available. I see some on Amazon but I kind of wonder if they're counterfeit.
Pretty cool! 👍
That is some crazy tech
What about CXT, Apparently I made the mistake of buying an unsupported battery platform...
Thank you
I don’t need another impact driver I have like 10 or so but I do have a makita xtd09 I think that’s the model number it’s the made in Japan version and I love it so I’m gonna have to get one of these.
VGC we all know your not gonna drop the RED or your brother the YELLOW .....you like raw power lol.....
But to answer your question in video --> in my depot they didnt put anything on SALE....where is the decent/good SALE...there wasent any!!!! Black friday, xmas
They fail in that reguard
But i do appreciate the non hate non bias in reviewing ...very important to keep that for me
Damn bro. Shilling for Makita now. Sounds like you're working for them lol
Finally!!!!! I just noticed for the first time ever that you hold your impact driver exactly how I do. I use almost every tool with my middle finger on the trigger and my index on the tool body. It's strange to me that nobody else does that
I’m sure there are others, just gotta know where to look.
Ask FLEx for a tour please.
lxt is a great balance of size , power and cost.
That is not a new tool. It’s been in Japan for 2 years.
The nailer is a sign though….
Well, it's a new tool for the rest of the world.
I have many tools from all the major professional-grade manufacturers. If I could only have one, it would be Makita. They generally have the best combination of reliability, power, and erogonomics. Note that I did NOT claim that they are always #1 in power; however, I would say that they are rarely far behind. However, see the paragraph below:
Even with the newest additions from Makita, I guarantee that the overweight, cognitively impaired, drunk/alchoholic (in my uncertified opinion) from Tool with SolAz will be claiming they are junk even before testing them.
All Makita tools are beautiful 🛸🛸
I have
23 lxt batteries
4 xgt batteries
3 Milwaukee batteries
11 festool batteries
I'm definitely a firm believer in Makita power tools and the LXT batteries. Only to be rivaled by m18 batteries with Samsung cells. I've had both brands with their 18v batteries for years and years and all is well with every single one of them.
Peace and God be with you, my friend. 😁👍✌️
I see you're Dern good Dave!
The only downside of Makita is price. But, if you are a pro then it's worth it.
Makita usually drops new stuff similar to Sonys PlayStation systems 😅
Here, the share of Makita users is 1% on the 40v platform. Everyone else is still and newly using the 18v system. The price difference is huge, the batteries work normally, the availability of tools and batteries in every tool store... For most customers, the 40v system is complete nonsense
Makita screwed up big time by changing battery platforms, should of did like milwaukee and dewalt and just upgrade batteries for compatibility now have to buy 2 different platforms frkm same brand😅
We need 9 and 12 ah batteries
Put that beard again😎
I love my mikita drills but i like my Milwaukee ones better
I want that , like my.little cousins like to say
Helps that I like my Makitas but I'm not a fanatic either, multiple platforms over here.
still no cordless tablesaw...........its a shame...........may go to flex
Are they ever gonna do anything with the batteries lol.
Thank you lord ,I CAN’T understand Japanese and the website to order the Japanese driver is suspect.
Best multi tool out
I dont understand why you need a 3rd and 4th speed when its 400 rpm and 200 impacts....why? Its 1000 on the others, its just gimmicky to me.
Likely because they have 4 modes, hence 4 speeds makes it simpler as the modes and speeds are indicated by the same panel.
I haven't had a Makita battery powdered drill since the 1990's and am not going to start now.🤣
🎄☃️🍺🎸🤘
Over 200$ retail price not worth it just gun no battery included
Makita just like Toyota they don’t always update their stuff if it don’t break don’t fix it
Who cares? I will be more impressed if Mikita bought out some sort of adaptable. That will allow me to use my L XT batteries with my xdt Drills or vice versa thats how you will keep your customers.
What sort of bs dumb video this is. One only has to look to japan. Did Makita get rid of 14.4v when 18v came? 14.4v outsells 18v LXT in japan.
Look at the batteries prices in the UK . Around 60$ dollars for a 5 amh here 160 . Not sure why they are so high here.
@harlanborders943 was about to say the same. They are much more affordable in the rest of the world. I'm guessing US tariffs are too high, or it's just not profitable for them to charge less here ?
Pretty much only in Europe it's cheap relative to salary, in Southeast Asia, Makita tools & battery is ridiculously expensive relative to salary.....
Still a piece of garbage 2010 -2025
I've had the XDT14Z since it first came out and still use it to this day in commercial, that mf can WORK 🥰
The comment section here would be full of hate and be all negative for the makita brand on Tool Review Zone. Channel So I stopped watching that channel.
I love my Makita CXT, LXT and XGT power tools.
