    These questions need to become illegal; what I do in between in jobs is none of the employer's business and is irrelevant if I match the job description. Life is too complicated to just assume a person has a long gap because they're unhireable.

    I have a Sabbatical of 7 years. Combination of family reasons and trailing spouse where I moved to USA . Now back to India and looking for a job. But sadly not everyone understands that family is important, raising kids is important. I don’t regret that I have to take a step back because I was always there when my family needed me. I am also HR professional and It saddens me when people just see me as someone who has been out of market and nothing beyond it. 😞

    This was such an amazing video. I am from India. I have a career gap of 1 year (2020 August - present) which I took to prepare for an entrance examination after my graduation completion in August 2020. But unfortunately I couldn't make it to the top colleges when the exam was held on February. But during the past 6 months I've been working tirelessly on my skills and very surely I feel I'll be able to grab a job. So considering all this are there any signs of worry for me?

    There are bad workplaces that mentally harass people and affect their mental health. That can also be a reason for gaps on the resume. When will HR take a real-world view and proactively challenge established norms? Study, health , family...these reasons are paraded around in every other video. Essentially, why is it a such a huge crime to say that your previous employers were perhaps people who didn't respect you as human beings?

    • @SuperChargeYourself
      @SuperChargeYourself  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this is a very nuanced topic, and sharing something about challenging workplaces .. is a larger conversation about ‘let’s normalise it’… if one is comfortable sharing, then absolutely no issues.

    I think it's really great that you realize that "Life Happens," concept and that people should not be judged for long gaps in their work history. I do believe that you could add one more reason, a 7th reason, why people take long gaps, and that is that they just plainly didn't want to work for a period of time. They enjoyed not working. I do understand that it is a blessing, but that is not the point I am concerned with. Some people do have the ability to Not work and then decide to go back to work after a long period of time, out of necessity or just because they just want to work again. This is a true life situation for many people that is never addressed. I would love to see this concept (reason) covered on some TH-cam channels. I have searched for someone who has covered this concept and have found none. It would be very helpful for those of us who want to get back to work if some good advise on cover letters, resumes, and interviews were covered for those who just wanted to stay home for awhile. I have watched some of your videos and thought that you would be able to give great advise for this since you were an HR Director. I really enjoy your advise and appreciate your time and effort in providing it.

    • @SuperChargeYourself
      @SuperChargeYourself  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think there’s usually a deeper layer behind why they didn’t want to work. Could be own mental health, space needed to heal etc..

    • @heathergarcia8331
      @heathergarcia8331 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SuperChargeYourself Ya, I don't think that is always the case. There doesn't have to be a reason all the time. It doesn't have to be mental health or anything negative. Sometimes we choose to stay home for a few years. I don't understand why there has to be a reason, other than they wanted to and they were able to, so they did. I have been home for almost 9 years because I chose not to go back to work. I now want to get back to working again, but there is no reason for me being home thus long other than I chose to not work.

    • @SuperChargeYourself
      @SuperChargeYourself  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get that. Perhaps for many that would come under ‘family’? Or in your case, there’s a number 7, which is to just take a pause. And be. That’s fine too!
      PS: mental health, like physical health, doesn’t have to be a negative reasoning

      Companies would look at it as "wasting time." I wish they'd acknowledge that people need to breathe and ACTUALLY take time to recover from a previous toxic employer. But then again if you say that they think it's a red flag. It's so annoying that you are somehow not allowed to be candid like this and instead you are expected to suck it up and fake it.

    Hi Sonal..Love the content you come up with. So informatory and a much a needed guidance. I fall under catalogue 5 Trailing Spouse and had a gap for about a year. I manged to get placed in the same company I worked before ,however in the APAC region as an offshore employee due to various immigration process. They are looking to have me on board as a permanent employee and have initiated internal discussions. But they haven't spoken anything about the offer. My performance has been consistent and they seem to have recognised me. I've requested for an offer on my permanent position a couple of times but it hasn't been addressed clearly. Am I still in a position to ask about how much I could be offered? Is it something feasible to ask at this stage?

    Thank you for sharing such helpful knowledge!
    I have another reason of the gap on my Resume, if it should be called a "gap". I've been working as a QA Engineer for about 5 years. I was studying fine art, concept art and UI design as a hobby, while I was an engineer. Then I switched the job and became an artist for 4 years.
    Then, after having practical experience of two different jobs, I've compared the experience, and made the decision to continue QA Engineer career path and to leave the art as a hobby for weekends. I'm working as a QA Engineer again (found a job few months ago), I'm currently searching for a better place, but that unrelated artistic working experience became an issue to me. I was thinking to leave it as a gap before watching your video, but now I'm thinking to add it to the Resume. The puzzle is, how to add it and not to distract/confuse the people who will be reviewing my QA Engineer Resume 🙂

    Hi
    If in a job there is no salary component and job is only commission based, how we can attract candidates? Mainly in real estate sector… very few company offer salary like an allowance mainly company offers only commission with leads and support. But most of the time experience staff ask for basic but company is not ready to pay basic then how we can attract employees? I can email my query as well if you can help me.
    Thanks

    Hi Sonal. I need some advice how to talk about my 2 months employment I took during I recover from my health issues. That job was not relevant to my career and I only took it to generate cash and rebuild work structure. Should I mention this during interview and in my resume? Will HR think negative of me for taking this kind of job? I cannot delete this employment as background check will dig out this history anyway
