I'm in a similar situation. I'm 33. ran a consulting firm for 4 years before serious issues prevailed between myself and my business partner (who also was a close friend). I began hating everything about running the company while we had 12 employees, so I left. We've had multinational clients and the business was doing okay with lots of potential. My wife was pregnant at the time with our third child. The distress of leaving a company I co-founded and losing all sources of income took a significant toll on me. It's been 1 year and 3 months since I've been out, with minimal motivation to join the labor market again. Anxiety, a poor sense of self-worth, panic disorders, depression - you name it, I've had it. Hoping to overcome these issues and relaunch a great career track. This video was reassuring and motivational.

I’ve been here I was out of the workforce immediately after college because i was struggling with my mental health and totally disenchanted with leaving college behind and having to execute in life. I sort of froze up. I didn’t do anything productive for about 5 months, literally barely made it out of bed which only made me feel worse that I wasn’t being productive as i had been before but i swear it was like something had a hold of me i couldn’t shake it. For the next 8 months after that I gradually got myself together and started seeing a therapist. Then I started taking small jobs online in the career that interested me and fast forward a few months to present day, I landed a full time job in the field I want to be in albeit the pay is quite low but hey it’s a start. I do still get nervous about ending up in that bad space but it’s important for me to just keep going and build on the momentum I have. Good luck to Connor, he’s got this!

I hate that its a thing we need to explain why we stopped working. How does that effect the company at all??? Either we quit to take time off or quit for a better opportunity. Why does the reason matter? Either way we left our old companies. Its so stupid.

It is important for me to remember to never be ashamed or make excuses for MY illness. And if I want to stay and rest, then it is my priority to not be productive when I am healing. The other issue I am dealing with is changing to a new career because my new disability prevents me from returning to the old one. This video gave me confidence that I am not the only person going through this issue.

I am age 48 and have not worked for 4 years. I have a degree in accounting, self taught in Python and SQL but haven't worked with them but have had depression and had to deal with death of two family members in past 3 years.
I don't have the money to go back to as school like this guy but i don't know have to address the time.
Basically I was living on the money left for me by my father however that has run Out and I am completely lost with putting together a resume now to address the time

Wow, thank you for sharing your story Connor, your journey is truly inspirational. I have been having my fair share of doubts and fear overshadow me and my progression in my own life. I feel nervous applying for graduate school after taking a 3 year gap after graduating from my undergrad. It's been daunting but watching this video made me happy and gave me a bit of confidence to push me in the right direction.

This is such a great video and something I can really relate to. I have been out of the workforce for a very long time due to a lot of trauma in my life. And also losing my vision mostly has made me disabled since the last time I worked so I feel very nervous about how to approach something I used to be really good at which is going for a job interview and being in the workforce. I will definitely take these tips into consideration!

I changed careers, went back to college and started to travel when I ended my apartment contract. Its been four years, of travelling and going back to college. I graduated in2018 and now I just started my first entry level, a year later career job as a publications specialist. I'm nervous af like its the first day of school. I'm not sure how to act. Any suggestions?

Im in the same boat more or less, 29 and getting back in the workforce after a couple years. Not to sound cliche, but just try your hardest and know that ultimately thats all you can ask for. If you are a human like me, you over-think and worry about trivial things, but just know that that fear is all lies. When I have bad and nervous thoughts, I literally just say the word "LIES" real loud in my head, to label those thoughts as exactly what they are -- lies trying to make you miserable. Life moves quick, don't get bogged down by the little things

I'm schizophrenic struggling with severe depression. I haven't worked in 13 years. I'm so incredibly bored with my life and would like nothing more than to be able to return to work. Work gives me a sense of purpose. I'm considering talking to an occupational therapist for help. How can I return to work effectively without relapsing? I really hate not being able to work. It makes me feel like a useless bum!

Hey Lady this is bull...your fake it till you make it does not work. So maybe you get a job, squeak through the interview, people will know you faked it, once your there, and you won't last. I did everything you suggested, it wont work if you depressed, and awkward. Personality gets you a job, or good work experience, thats it.
