As an American, I always looked forward to listening to Peter. I started listening to him in my youth and continued in my adulthood. He was a golf historian, golfer, announcer, writer…All I can say is televised golf will never be the same. Rest in peace Mr. Alliss.

So sad to know you're not with us... so many example's of brilliant story telling gone outside recorded history... I'm a 46 year old lad that started my love of the game when i turned 10 in a beautiful little place of our world called Tasmania in Australia. It was such a wonderful thing to listen to Peter's commentary with his dry witted ways of explaining what was going on.... Vale 🇦🇺⛳️❤️

I will always be a fan of The Open and I will always be a fan of Mr. Peter Alliss.
I would like to believe I could be as big a fan of one had there not been the other, but in my head I don't know if that is true.
Mr. Alliss you were so good and are so, so missed. Though I am enjoying the 149th competition this year, my emotions are jumbled and my heart is heavy with loss.
Not unlike Jim Murray, Chick Hearn, Dick Enberg, and Vin Scully, I just thank the Lord I was alive to witness your professional excellence. You were a model of unfiltered observational irreverent brilliance and impeccable timing.
    Thank you for the years.
    Godspeed and God bless, Sir.

One of the best sports commentators ever.. I remember his commentary on the 1996 Masters in the middle of the final round when Greg Norman blew a six stroke lead and Nick Faldo beat him by five. As the two golfers were coming down the twelfth fairway, Alliss commented: "Look at that. Faldo looks a young man again, and as for poor old Greg, well he looks ready for his bus pass." Typical Alliss, incisive, informative and informed with the touch of humour reminding us that it was only a game.
