      You can Seriously consider flying Singapore Airlines or Scoot Airlines from any destination to Singapore.
      Singapore Airlines is currently the best airline for First class and Economy Class as on par highest standard quality to Rivals Emirates Airlines and Qatar Airways.
      Scoot Airlines is A Subsidiary of parent Carrier Singapore Airlines but still have the Boeing 787 Dreamliners Aircraft that have flights reasonably to Singapore.

    My partner and I had the exact same situation on two flights with Cathay back from Spain to Melbourne in July. We wrote on the breakfast card, and asked the cabin crew to wake us up. On both occasions we were woken up with the cabin crew preparing for landing and had a rushed breakfast.
    I didn't particularly enjoy Cathay Pacific. I wouldn't avoid them, but they will never be my first choice. Great review, thanks as always Paul

    I fly CX from HK to Melb many times.
    I tried Qantas once recently and I was left hungry all through 12 hours of the flight, there was 3 hours delay to take off, food serving was small, no dessert no cheese was served after dinner, and for breakfast after I ate the cereal I thought I would get the hot meal egg n sausage n bacon, no no no, they just offered me coffee, all food was packed away, the best was the bed n linen a mattress topper and a Qantas PJ but now CX also brings out a mattress topper and pillow.
    I will ask CX for a PJ.

    As a Hong Konger, I flew with CX quite frequently. However, their service has declined, and we sometimes call it the "Asia American Airlines". I won't say they are worse than the most of Chinese airlines but they are inferior compared to EVA AIR, China Air, all Japanese airlines. I think this video is a good wake up call for them to improve the all-round package and become a real star airline.

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Fair comment. They really have the opportunity to maintain their great reputation as the hard product (in the airport and the lounges) is really really good but it's the service that is becoming a little 'meh'. I've noticed a few other youtubers have had similar average experiences too.

  • @subi924
    @subi924 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I've had similar experiences on CX to be honest. Great seat but below average service. I've had drink and snack orders forgotten about (multiple times) as the crew would say 'be right back' and then just never return. On one flight my aisle of the plane missed a complete round of food and drinks because they simply forgot to come around and serve us. On another flight, my aisle didn't receive the same food options for breakfast as the others - you could see croissants being warmed up and served but when I asked for it I was told there weren't any croissants. Also as you mentioned, I never got a sense of 'warmth' from the crew. Rather, they would just do what they had to and try to get it done as quickly as possible. A real shame when SQ seems to nail it flight after flight whenever I fly, so I choose not to fly CX now.

    I flew by Cathay Pacific once and the entire experience was a disaster. I booked a vegetarian meal and confirmed the same with reservation before flying.
    Due to a delay of the Cathay Pacific flight from the origin, I missed the connecting flight to the destination & was transferred to a flight that was to leave Hong Kong in 6 hours. That flight itself was delayed by 4 hours and passengers were conveniently informed every 2 hours to avoid any chance to give a compensation.
    On the connecting flight, they tried giving me instant chicken noodles for breakfast and rudely said I should have called reservation to have my vegetarian meal confirmed.

    The cabin light should be dimmed because of safety reasons. But I have experienced that the crew forgets, asked once why the lights was on during an SAS takeoff. Got the answer that the new cabin attendant had forgotten to turn it off. They said they turn it off so the eyes can adjust to the natural light and that the evacuation lights would be more visible. I agree with your comments, the service I have always found to have been almost work to rule. I always fly long haul J class with Cathay because I love the hard product. Last time I asked for ice cream the flight attendant told me I can have either the ice cream or the dessert but not both... I'm like WTF? Also I agree about the shutters some FA come by and shut it closed without asking. Another time I had the armrest up before take off and the FA came by and slammed the armrest down. Does it really hurt to give me a heads up? Also for an Asian airline the Asian food is mediocre. I always take the western fare (beef or pasta). Perhaps they are learning their manners from Air China which might be taking them over....

    Hi Paul. Great video and even better choice of chocolate. Although I agree that the new livery looks modern and crisp, I like how the previous livery retained some red to pay homage to the red and green striped livery from the 70s and 80s. Ps nothing wrong with Maccas breakfast, especially when the Monopoly promotion is running 😉😂

    Have to agree on that one, Cathay has deteriorated a lot. I flew Prem Eco and Business with them in May earlier this year, and they treated me like a farm animal, where I was told to pour a drink myself (in Prem Eco). The flight attendant in Biz told me they are so cash stripped that they feel embarrassed serving Biz customers, particularly if a customer requests an extra blanket as they don't even have extras...

      Yeah they're in a difficult position with the rise of other Asian airlines AND the recent political unrest. I felt safe but a lot of people are avoiding Hong Kong Airport for understandable reasons. When it's politically stable, it's a fantastic lay-over city.

      Since I’m Chinese, it might seem biased of me on commenting anything about hongkong, since in general it’s a private matter to political beliefs. But I do think the crew of Cathay has gone too far on protest mode, more than 10 cases that Cathay cabin crew purposely empty the hand carrying oxygen bottles for cabin crew and emergency in time period of after flight or during flight preparing progress, a couple of flight were cancelled, because when such thing occurred, the involved cabin crew will be banned traveling through Chinese airspace, the company right now is actually at a very dangerous edge of being banned from Chinese airspace cause of the unprofessionalism.

    Overall CX business class on B777 was good with great variety of meal and drink selection on board. Crews were attentive and friendly but a bit robotic and walking too fast along the aisle.
    For lounge at HKIA, any type of CX lounges were great with variety of buffet foods and drinks to choose from. A bit of downside was most of CX lounges do not operate 24 hours daily, it usually opens from around 5am.
    B777 is one of my favorite aircraft types because of smooth curves interior which I adore very much.
    Anyway great video trip report. Keep it up 👍🏻

    @KiloLima 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You had an entire evening to either take the thirty minute express ride to the heart of Hong Kong and soak up the culture and flavor of one of the worlds most unique cities. Or you can sit around an airport and be lavishly pampered and catered to for a few hours before for your flight. You chose to spend your hours being pampered. Which by your own account seemed pretty damn fine. Lovely meal and beverage services, spotless and plentiful amenities. Staff catering to all your needs. Lovely evening.
    You flew through the middle of the night until the crack of dawn while being selflessly watched over and catered to by a crew of people dedicated to your well being and safety. You enjoyed movies and lovely foods and a comfortable amount of space while moving through the sky at nearly 600mph and over six miles high.
    At no point on your flight did a window blow out, a toilet back up. Your seat motor didn’t catch on fire, nor did a motor quit or they had to land elsewhere because they were low on fuel ... none of that happened because of that all caps "poor service".
    Yes, Cathay cabin staff are a bit ridiculous about those window shades, but to publicly slam them with "poor service" over that?
    Maybe the crew got busy and over tasked with an ill passenger in another cabin, maybe there were mechanical issues they were quietly dealing with while you seemingly deeply slept and weren’t disturbed at six miles up and 600mph. Maybe the captain was busy recalculating arrival time because god forbid arrival into Sydney one minute too early and the airline will receive a many thousand dollar fine. Or maybe the crew that served you and stayed awake all night to pamper you and cater to you and 350 of your closest friends just forget to wake you up. I’ve seen CX crews many times try to wake customers who were in deep sleep and eventually they just left them to enjoy a longer rest. Or maybe you were a free upgrade or a TH-camr and they just didn’t want to deal with you anymore.
    Crickey, Paul. You’re an adult. You can film their every move (which I’m sure they enjoy) but you don’t have an alarm, vibrate on your phone? You even stated your sleep was too "short".
    Yes, some flights are amazing, other flights are just, meh. But you have summed up the work or countless people who busted their butt to take you safely through the sky in the middle of the night, through some of the meanest weather on the planet (at the intercontinental diversion zone) all while watching movies, enjoying treats, and safely landing at your destination in a $320M aircraft. You only had to pay $4000 for that luxury but $20 for WiFi was too much?
    Paul, you summed up what looked like a lovely day of luxury lounges and wonder service at 30,000 feet in the thin air with an all caps, "POOR SERVICE". You summed up the tireless work of hundreds that make any flight happen with "poor service". You brought a "gift" of chocolates on board for the crew and yet somehow, six hours into a flight, you still hadn’t shared the "gift"? Then you tell your viewers that you’re eating them as you commentate ... that’s f-ing spiteful and petty. That wasn’t a gift and if anything it would have been a reward if you were saving it until the end of flight.
    I fly business class 20+ times a year. Almost always ultra long haul. Most always the service is wonderful, sometimes it’s rather dry at best. I’ve heard of no one dying, everyone arrived safely and almost always ahead of schedule, except of course when landing in Sydney in the morning. There’s good days and bad days, we all have them.
    Next time, take an Australian made Jabiru to your destination. Or just grow a pair, skippy. Better yet, as Australia’s uncle Chopper Read would say ...
    "This is Paul Stewart, he didn’t get his wake up call or breakfast cakes on his safe and amazing business class flight to Sydney and the mean flight attendant closed his window shade so now he wants to have a sulk about it."
    ‘Uncle Chopper says, ‘harden the f up, Paul."
    Hold the f-up ... you’re "giving away" the free amenities kit that you opened (broke the tie of) in flight ... the plastic tooth brush, single mouth wash, single use lotion, socks, eyepatch, etc. That is comical right there.
    Enjoy your next journey.

    All cabin lights are supposed to be dimmed during night take off. It’s so in an emergency your eyes are already accustomed to the darkness. You don’t want light inside then an emergency with no lights or finding yourself trying to escape in darkness then outside in darkness. I find it odd that they wouldn’t have switched them off or dimmed them.
