Very comprehensive information about SH Metro! I've been to SH twice on a time span of 8 yrs and the development of metro system was insane. It's even more massive, convenient and less crowded than that in Beijing, where I go to university. I'm planning to study overseas for the upcoming 2 yrs and I really think I will be missing metro systems in Chinese cities a lot. Hopefully after I graduate I can find a job in SH and move there. Really love SH's atmosphere. Informative video again and keep up the great work!
Shanghai metro is so much more advanced than NYC and the best part is the cost which less than half of NYC, Based on the condition of the NYC metro passengers should be allowed to ride free.
NYC metros are the drugged out homeless version of the world's metros. I live in Chicago and the metros here are fine but I wish they would improve it technologically to this scale we see in Shanghai
@@jinliu1198 Beijing subway line 1 has been operating for 50+ years since 1969. Thanks to both the operater and the passengers. It has been upgraded and modernized for several times. And it is still very clean now.
@@jinliu1198 Only in the last 15 years I have seen things completely renewed at least 3 or 4 times in the Shanghai Metro. The last changes were AI-driven trains, new WCs, new exhibition areas in each station, and many new lines and connections between lines. The reason why the NYC Metro sucks it's just because of the government's neglect and greed.
This is a brilliant and factually accurate video that doesn't go into is Shanghai metro the best in the world. It just listed it features, fare, installations and facilities. Everybody has one's own preference so it is pointless to suggest which one is best. However by highlighting the features one can make up one's own mind. In term of metro total length Shanghai's 803 km is the largest in China. London underground has 296 km while New York has 399 km so Shanghai is longer than London and New York combined. For number station Shanghai, London and New York has 396, 272 and 424 respectively so New York has more stops and stations. In term of ridership the 2020 records for Shanghai, London and New York were 2,834, 296 and 1,311 million respectively. Thus Shanghai system appears to carry the most passengers in the world followed by Beijing with 2,292 million while third busiest system is Seoul for 2,127 million per annum.
Like your video very much! Accurate and a lot fun to watch. If anyone friend asks me about Shanghai's metro, I'll just send them the video and no need to explain~
Que buen video amigo! justo estoy haciendo un trabajo de universidad respecto al metro de Shanghai y me ha impresionado todos los aspectos que comentaste, gracias, saludos desde Perú :D
You've covered a bunch of interesting facts about Shanghai Metro, I enjoyed watching the video! Though my favorite metro is still in Kyiv, and btw it's becoming more convenient and safe each year:) Good job, Adrian! Waiting for the new videos to come.
"It's becoming more convenient and safe"?! You are joking right?! METRO in KIEV?! Your country is being bombed as we speak because your leadership sucks! Here comes a FUCK ZELENSKY comment!
Very interesting video! Could you please share with us information about advantages and disadvantages of living in this city? What was the most shocked and interesting for you while you moved there?
Normal people can't live there well, just because of a very high housing price per square meters which is a astronomical figure for most of common people. Also, there's so many intermediate first-tier cities in China like Hangzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, qingdao, etc, which are more suitable to live as a common person. I live in Europe now, I can guarantee the infrastructures and advanced level in people's life of those cities I said had surpassed 90% and more cities in Europe.
Advantage, safe, you can go anywhere at any time , crime rate is close to 0, especially violating crime. Convenient, walking distance you can find subway, bus, a lot of restaurants open to middle night, even 24 hours, for large city, it is pretty clean, people are very nice. Disadvantage, real estate is very high, price is higher than NYC, good thing is renting cheaper than NYC.
There only two complaints I have for Shanghai's Metro system are: 1. Transfer at certain stations are nightmare. Sometimes could be close to 1km of walking (like Yishan Rd.) or several stories of stairs (Zhongshan Park). 2. No express train for line 2 east of Zhangjiang HT.
Good job! Thanks a lot! :) I was just missing a statement about whether one needs to be able to speak Mandarin or can get away with only speaking English when using the metro.
You can see Inside-the-station maps like the one at 6:41 at every metro station in Seoul and Shanghai also on websites but not in London tube stations. TfL could do better.
I’ve just got back from Tokyo and a lot of the good stuff you’ve mentioned was probably taken from the Tokyo metro system. Good job, I’m always cheering when countries look at each other and and take the stuff that works. Especially in the case of Japan which had many more years in order to try and better the metro system. Asia compared to Europe is just way ahead in terms of efficiency, security and cleanness. Europe is truly a stuck with no innovation and just with no plans for the future unfortunately.
Shanghai metro probably took a lot of inspiration from many existing metro systems, as would be necessary for a megacity. There's just one thing that thankfully it didn't learn from Tokyo's, that is the number of various companies operating the services. Shanghai Metro is operated only by one company, that is if you exclude the city train lines and the Maglev. It might be easier for someone who actually lives in Tokyo to get used to their system, but I found it difficult to buy tickets, due to the fact that lines operated by different companies required the purchase of seperate tickets (this was duing 2015, not sure if it has changed).

Moscow beats continence, it is open from 5:30 until 1:00 whole week. USB charging in almost all trains, trams, buses. And metro signs are in cyrilic and Latin writing, unlike Shanghai which is only in Chinese. And we do not need masks for 1 year and half.
The metro here is both in Chinese and English. The announcements are made in both languages as well not just the signs. A mask is not obligatory anymore. Usb charging are also found on the metro. Just clarifying some of your misinformation.
@@shanghaiandi768 Enn...Maybe... The thing that makes Shanghai Metro disappoint me the most is there is no expressway, so I have to stop at every station, which makes commuting between, for example, Minhang and Baoshan or Pudong and Jiading a disaster by Metro. And hopelessness is that there is no room for future improvement at the initial construction. At this point, even the MTA of NYC is better.
Shang hai. Incredible future city.

It’s very impressive. I would have thought in a major city it would be 24 hour.
It would be a waste of public resource honestly. Taking a taxi after the metro hour is convenient~
