To help with lore:
The Elden Ring is the underlying logic that runs the universe. The Logos if you will. It is created by the Greater Will and administered by Merika as its subordinate. The theft of the death rune made death stop working. That’s why the undead are a new phenomenon and hunters are after them. Fia’s ending is incorporating undeath into the Elden Ring, so Zombies are part of the natural order. An empyrean appears to be either the subordinate of an “Outer God” (like Merika and potentially Rennala) or the child of such a subordinate (Ranni, Miquella, and Malenia are empyreans and are the children of empyreans). A demigod is the child of an empyrean and non-empyrean.
“Outer Gods” are more murky. They are beyond the physical world and each have their own philosophy. The Greater Will is a generally benevolent entity that wants to establish order in as many universes as possible (you can see the multiple Erdtrees in the final boss fight). But it is generally hands off and leaves things to subordinates. The Moon God appears completely neutral to those it administers, neither helping nor harming. The Chaos Outer God (who is either Shabriri or his boss) is the opposite of the Greater Will. It wants to destroy all distinction and return things to primeval “chaos”.
SPOILERS:
The endings vary as follows:
Default: Become Merika’s consort.
Fia: Incorporate undeath into the natural order.
Dung Eater: Incorporate curses into the natural order.
Goldmask: Remove Merika from the pattern and allow the Elden Ring (and the Golden Order it generates) to be directly administered via the Greater Will. This perfects the Greater Will’s order and eliminates all “gods” (really just the subordinates of Outer Gods).
Ranni: Switch control of the universe from the Greater Will to the Moon God. This means the fundamental order of the world is replaced so the laws of reality are completely changed. One could argue there are no longer any hard laws of reality since the Moon God doesn’t care about such things.
Lord of Chaos: Switch control of the universe to the Chaos Outer God, which basically just destroys it (since that’s what he wants).
I'm at 95 hours and I don't even feel close to finishing this game and that makes me very happy

Regarding the big face at the bottom of Stormveil, I don't think that's Godwyn, but it seems to be related to him somehow. If you do Fia's questline, you'll eventually find her in a place called The Prince of Death's throne, and standing above her is a very similar gigantic squid creature, and THAT creature is Godwyn. You can visually tell from remnants of Godwyn's clothes and streaks of blonde hair - but if you continue her quest she very explicitly says it's him.
The one at the bottom of Stormveil is essentially the same type of creature but lacks Godwyn's identifiable features, and also notably has no eyes (which giant Godwyn does have). And I don't know what to make of it, it's by far the piece of lore I am most curious about.

Rogier clearly knows more about it, as he fought it down there as well (due to his bloodstain next to it displaying him being death-blighted and his subsequent injury at the round table). He doesn’t have much to say beyond that he fought it down there. But admittedly I forgot to follow up and try to get more dialogue from him on my first playthrough. I’ll wait for vaati or lore Hunter to figure it out
@@clintonleonard5187 it's before the Godrick arena. Go to the Secluded Cell site of Grace, then to the room immediately in front of it (with all the pot enemies). In that room there should be a ledge you can jump on and then follow along that path.
I know that's very vague, it's a little hard to explain it in youtube comments lol but just keep exploring Stormveil, I'm sure you'll find it!

my first souls game and i fell in love. Long story short, hated it to start with, then watched a guide to get a bit of power and it opened the game up immensely. 110 hours later and ive finished my first souls game and as a strength build scrubs too

I think you may be right. I have a distinct memory of a cutscene of a hand grabbing the sword, but I can't find it online. Must have all been in my head!

This was my first souls game and I’m honestly in love
This was my first Souls game too and I was obsessed, put in almost 200 hours lol. I'm playing through DS1 and Bloodborne now and while they're great so far, they definitely feel obtuse and unforgiving for the first dozen or so hours until you start to figure out the game loop, and I'm not sure I would have given them that effort without having played Elden Ring first

For what its worth, Souls game difficulty is pretty overblown if that's what is keeping you away. The mechanic of dying isn't meant to be a Game Over, and in fact dying to certain enemies has even taken the player to brand new areas lol.
It's meant to be a thing where you make progress, and don't fight every enemy everytime you run pass them after you died three times and already fought them lol. Especially now thay Elden Ring has a horse that makes that easier

Theres an item near Maliketh where if you beat the invader on the lower side of the bridge rather than going up to fight Maliketh right away, it'll make that fight a lot easier with the Red death attacks in phase 2. Gotta explore better ;) lol

It will never not drive me absolutely insane that when people talk about the history of From’s Souls games, they start with Dark Souls.
Dark Souls 2 is by far the worst
Hearing somebody’s favourite souls is DS 2, a game with glaring mismatching scenery, story that doesn’t make sense and most importantly - known to be a rushed project due to bad initial directing, something the devs have confirmed - well all that makes me lose any trust in one such person. The arrogant “if you think otherwise, you’re wrong” is where I stopped listening to this person’s opinions.

No Hanson to pretend he knows and like the game? Thank god lol. I love the game, have probably played over a hundred hours between 2 characters, and have NOT beaten the game. I'm impressed by people who have beaten the game but i have a feeling they've rushed through it ;) I've also played mainly with friends and have reapeted a TON of content.
actually I love hearing Hanson talk about it since it's the first souls game he is hooked on, so it's an interesting perspective
