One of my favorites of all time. My only real complaint is I found it ridiculously easy. But I dug the smaller but more detailed and interactive game world, and loved Jimmy.
So many good childhood memories of this game. One thing i really liked was the music tracks, they were so catchy and I'd find myself listening to them outside of playing the game.
I played Bully for the first time in 2021, I bought and played a bit, not realizing you could leave the school grounds, I thought that the school was the whole map, so I got bored and put it down, came back to it over a year later in 2022 and played a bit more, finally realizing that you could go outside of the school and then I was really intrigued, I ended up finishing it and loving it, really great game. Back when it first came out, I remembered getting bullied in Junior High, so I didn't want to play it, as well as being totally caught up with the GTA trilogy and other games around that time.
If Petey would've been the villain oh man it would've gone from a 4.5 star game to a 5 star game with the twist at the end and a big "Don't judge a book by its cover" lesson
Bully was easily Rockstar's best game before Red Dead 2 came out. Still holds the number 1 spot. What I wouldn't give to see a full, from the ground up remake or a sequel.

It’s funny how the guy in the video assumed that the principal was going to a bad guy. Because originally Dr. Crabblesnitch was going to be the big bad. The only reference to this scrapped idea is artwork of Jimmy having a stare down with Crabblesnitch.
I picked this game up at 9 years old going on 10 back in January of 2009. I saw a playthrough of Russell In The Hole while browsing TH-cam either in 2007 or 8, heard about the game from a friend during gym class, remembered it and made sure to pick it up ASAP. I had already played San Andreas, Vice City, III, IV the Stories GTA games, so the content was certainly tamer, but the charm and the writing kept me in for the ride. Been a favorite JUST like GTA and the Redemption games ever since, beaten it at least 3-4 times over the years between the PS2 and 360 Scholarship versions. We NEED a sequel AND a remaster for this one 😎💯
@@Davidthang45I think my record was 12-14 hours to beat the game beginning to end, believe I did that right around the time I wrote this comment. Playing it again now actually, PS2 version on my launch A01 PS3 that plays PS2 😎👏🏻
One of my favourite parts of the game is honestly Jimmy. Ever since San Andreas, you can see Rockstar has been trying their best to make likable protagonists who still end up on murder sprees, but it was refreshing to have a Rockstar protagonist who is just straight up a good person at heart, if rough around the edges. Also, I find the Inbetweeners reference with Pete really funny given that early concept art showed him with a briefcase.
My favourite part about this video is the acknowledgements of all the great references. You killed it- kept my ADHD ass entertained talking about a game I've already played. Good shit
In terms of Gary, despite his loud proclamations, I like to think that the factions, with their numbers, thought they could control him. That while he was a master manipulator, he needed them. Just like a lot of other instances, when the solo who simply needs others to give him some power, Gary takes it all. He has the manipulation skills to make each faction think he is the x factor that will allow them to take over. Only the people who know he has no use and is a venomous snake (literaly just Jimmy and Pete) are those who aren't surprised by what he did. Just some thoughts from someone who didnt play the game but still enjoys it vicariously.
I remember the first time I played this game was when I rented it from BlockBluster. Such an awesome game I wish they’d make a sequel or remake it with more flushed out versions of gameplay.
I hadn't played bully up until a few years ago, honestly was pretty enjoyable. The entire map had a really interesting feel of nostalgia mixed with a wink of tim burton. Also you missed that Jimmy can add males to his Harem.
Bully was an absolute amazing game to play and had the most phenomenal voice acting even modern games can’t match for me. I really hated the ending though. It just felt so lackluster and anticlimactic compared to everything else you go through. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind a remake of the game one day, just cause I’m curious on what it would look like with updated graphics (and some parts of the writing could be improve kkkk).
I'm creating a cartoon. It's called, Forgotten Tales! It's about these forgotten and obscure characters that no one remembers from media that go on wacky and crazy adventures.
As a kid i was so into the schow recess and always wished they would make a game out of it, it maybe a bit more violent than i expected but its still a pretty good adaptation.
What a great video!! Loved Bully as a kid, I actually replayed it couple years back as an adult and man does it hold up just like you said! We need Bully 2 come on rockstar!!!
when i was younger Bully was one of my favorite games, i've recently bought it on steam, just to see if it was my unrefined taste in games or if it was up to all the classic GTAs and in a sense it was, i wasn't really challenging or creative (it's just GTA with teens duh) but in the other hand it was such a fun ride, i was laughing throughout all my gameplay. it would be awesome to have Jimmy as a GTA protagonist!
Honestly, given how Rockstar turned GTA V into a microtransaction hellscape and changed the SD era of GTA games into a "Definitive Edition" that looks worse than the original games, it's probably for the best that Rockstar has forgotten about Bully.
Fortunately Rockstar just released a massive update to the GTA Trilogy: Definitive edition and fixed many of the bugs plaguing it as well as introducing a classic lighting mode where the lighting looks much more faithful to the original trilogy
You know, now that i think about it it makes sense why jimmy is fighting all the leaders of each clique to prove he's tougher. You make it to a school where everyone tries to fight you and one of your only "friends" turns his back on you because of his fear that you'd pose an actual threat to his plans to take over the school so naturally jimmy feels the need to make it a reality thats why he beats the leaders of each clique and tells them each that they work for him now, and also tells them to stop the rivalry.
This is my all time favorite game the story feels emersive and just has slot of nostalgia tied to it for me that created a solid game and if you listen to the dialog it's actually a gold mine
21:47 youre the first person i saw mention Gary’s possible motive aside from him being a sociopath. I noticed he called Jimmy a bully before but never thought this is the reasoning. Him being narcissistic would blind him from seeing Jimmy was just returning what he put out
This game deserves some sequels. Say Senior year for Jimmy, with a new kid showing up , like he did , to shake things up. Maybe a summer vacation , with Jimmy on a trip abroad. Maybe Jimmy's kid (s) a few decades later.
What would I like to see in a Bully 2, you didn't ask? Let me tell you. First, I'd like something set over three years instead of one: sophomore, junior, and senior year. During the summers you get a job at a summer camp in the surrounding countryside. At the end of the first summer, you're paid enough money to buy a car. That's the only car you get. It's not like GTA. I want to really emulate the first car experience. It's not super fast or flashy, but you can fix it up in shop class to soup it up in certain ways and customize it with all the normal stupid teen stuff you always saw in their cars. Cheap seat covers, decals, bumper stickers, etc. And again, it's not GTA, you can't run people over or drive incredibly recklessly. You could even implement a fine system like RDR has for bounties. Jocks, nerds, preppies, and bullies all make a comeback. Maybe a few others like goths, stoners, drama club. Outside the school, trailer park kids, farm kids, city kids. I picture the map not being enormous, but big enough to have a forest area, an agricultural area, a run-down trailer park area, and a modest sized city with an industrial area.
For the driving, id love being able to romance girls (or boys haha) by showing up in a car and stuff. Also maybe a subplot involving upstaging some snooty rich bastard by racing his ferrari or whatever (you could win cuz the guy doesnt actually know how to hande his car) theres a lot of stuff you could do with it really Also same re: the map size, i always liked smaller areas with more details and stuff to do in them rather than gigantic map of buildings you will never enter
I believe there should have been two endings. The one we received and remember at the start of the game when Gary says he was medicated they should of put him back on the meds and in a cutscene we can see him being all Downey, a sorta bad ending for him
11:20 actually sometimes he won’t wake up back in his room. He’ll wake up where he fell asleep in his underwear. This happened to me when I played and I heard some chuckles so it made me think that while jimmy was asleep some of the students stripped him so that way hs could wake up and be humiliated.

I've been binging your videos recently and I'm having a great time! You explain these games in an entertaining way and I'm learning/discovering cool stuff about them. Happy to have subscribed!
I know you posted this a year ago, but I still felt like commenting on my entire thoughts when I heard you mention that you only had 200 subs at the time. Overall, your video presentation is incredible-- I decided to listen to it while playing a game, so I wasn't focused on the visual aspect, but I still enjoyed your explanation of the storyline and your personal ideas for a sequel or for a re-done story with Petey as the villain. I never really thought of that, even though I've watched the whole game get played before. It's a really interesting idea, and I'd actually kind of like to see the idea fleshed out more in another video, but I completely understand not doing that. As well, hearing you made this at only 200 subs? Incredible work for that-- I'm at about 150 myself, and I'll be honest, my vocal work is dreadful at best, so yours is nice and crisp compared to some creators I've seen. Also, your voice is very relaxing for me-- It's not overly hyper, like some creators try to be, and it feels more like talking to a friend about a game you like than talking to an audience. I really, really enjoy that fact-- I want to hear more about games, from those I haven't played to those I have, and videos like this are exactly how I want to hear more about them. My only critiques? It could've been nicer to dwell more on the character aspect. Though you touch on them, it feels like you don't really express much about the characters when they show up. It could help to properly express the details about Jimmy, Petey, Gary, and other such people in the story to properly get the full picture, since you mentioned that the character aspect is very well done. Even so, I completely understand why not. As well, it doesn't feel like much of a retrospective as a summary-- I'd like to hear more of your thoughts at the end! It's always interesting to hear your opinion there, and the bits I did get were already pretty interesting. All in all? I really think that this is a fantastic video, and I'll probably watch more that you've made just to enjoy more of your voice in the background, even if I'm not paying as much attention to the visual aspect. Thank you for the fantastic listen, and I wish you the best in the future!

Also the story is about how everyone just watched and did nothing about the bullying until one person stood up.
They still had to change the name of the game from bully to canis canem edit (dog eats dog) in Europe
@@mdragarg literal translation, "this dog, that dog eats." Latin is a pain in the ass to learn, lemme tell ya.
@@fistovuzi actual translation - "Dog eat Dog"
I heard Dr. Crabblesnitch was actually going to originally be the main antagonist, but then Rockstar changed it to Gary Smith later on in the game's development.
I’ve DEFINITELY heard that too somewhere. Either SWEGTA or NathanNS
@@jk-474 Two of my favorite channels. they both got me to replay Bully about once a year because of their content, usually in the summer or around Halloween.
@@TV-Tony There’s just a feeling with this one that’s hard to resist and each time you replay it, it still feels fresh! I’ve played the story from start to finish in elementary school, middle school I don’t recall, high school again I believe and then once again in 2021 with the pandemic. So seeing the story again even at different ages especially during and after that time where I would be Jimmy’s age and in school, my relatability and takes on it would change each time. In 2021, it was looking BACK at high school for the first time while playing that really blew my mind and made me yearn for my past again unlike the other times I played it 🤯

@@jk-474 Nice. Just the story though? I usually 100% the game using Robert Rusk's walkthrough on Gamefaqs and the maps in the Brady guide. Just finished it about a month ago.
Jimmy's got a lot of street smarts, maybe not a lot of book smarts but he is a fast learner when he cares.
He's money smart, it makes him more intelligent, and he has a lot of bands like a rock festival, OH and let's not forget how all the shawties in the school make him slide with his dawgs like he's megaman!
Worst comment ive ever made, holy...
In my opinion Jimmy is a sigma. He doesn't want to be king of the school, he doesn't really search for fights, and he prefers to be left alone instead of in a clique. He has his circle. He doesn't start problems but he finishes them.
I remember missing one last rubber band and going nuts all over the map for a couple of days irl and after finding everything and unlocking the rubber ball feeling that sense of completion that havent felt in quite awhile (ironically, a game that made me feel the same a couple of months ago was none other than the pc port of persona 4, another ps2 goldie) good ol' days man
Bruh i got to like 99.9% complete on xbox 360 like ten years ago but one of the random errands glitched and wouldn't trigger (it was the one where you had to collect crabs for the guy on the beach near the preppy safehouse) and i randomly loaded the game up a few years ago, it updated and i hopped into the save and i was just skating around and it popped up, i got the 100% achievement like 7 or 8 years after getting to 99.9%, frustrating but such a good feeling
Wow I really just watched a video of someone telling me everything that happens in a game I know by heart. Quality narration dawg I watch the entire hour
Same here. I've beaten this game so many times, and even still go back to it once a year or so to this day. There's nothing in this game I don't know about, and here I am watching an hour long video about it lol
Lol same here, I have so many completed save files, we know every part of the map, got all the rubber bands and yet here we are
One of my favorites of all time.
My only real complaint is I found it ridiculously easy. But I dug the smaller but more detailed and interactive game world, and loved Jimmy.
Bully has always been my favorite video game, jimmys such a unique and good character
If memory serves, you cannot access the town until chapter one is done
There's even a cutscene of the school gates opening at the start of chapter 2
You can cheese your way out before hand but stuffs closed still and you can only get back by being knocked out
I spent so many hours trying to escape in chapter 1 the first time i played
"Now beat it greaseball, you're causing an oil slick!"
I dunno why but I've always loved that line.
Honestly the writing in this game is hilarious as fuck.
"Let's leave this guy to his welfare payments" haha
Well yeah, the pranks were hilarious.
So many good childhood memories of this game. One thing i really liked was the music tracks, they were so catchy and I'd find myself listening to them outside of playing the game.
This has SOOOOO much potential as a sequel/franchise. I miss playing this kind of game.
I love Bully. I played it so much growing up. I had such a crush on Jimmy hahaha
Rockstar needs to remaster this. Platinuming this in on Ps5 was one of the most enjoyable I've had
You just made me read Flowers For Algernon. And by doing that, you made me cry. Well played sir
The reputation system in this game specifically is more akin to a progress bar divided into 5 cliques. Also, you can't visit the town during chapter 1
I never would've thought Bully would become an underrated gem.
Please, oh please, somebody bring this franchise back 😭
Bully was easily Rockstar's best game before Red Dead 2 came out. Still holds the number 1 spot. What I wouldn't give to see a full, from the ground up remake or a sequel.
Fun fact. If you unlock the motor scooter from the carnival early on, it becomes your default bike in every race. Including story mode races.
found this out myself to late. lol
Over the course of a week I have watched your GTA III, VC, SA and IV videos and today marks the 5th day, the Bully video. I hope you gain many subscribers this year, you are a great channel I've fallen in love with. Your content is very easy to listen to and follow along with, even without watching.
Along with the fact that he kind of sounds like Edward Norton?
(The main character from the movie fight club along side of Brad Pitt)
I remember my dad buying this game for my sister and I on the Wii lmao! I was pretty young so I’d just skateboard around in the skeleton costume and kiss girls
Tragically underrated game. Hands down funniest comedic dialogue of any game ever
I swear I've only been able to play through this game once when I was younger. It would be a trip to play through it again. Awesome video dude once again knocking it out of the park
Jimmy is certainly not "unlikeable"
Def is
Jimmy is an acquired taste
He's exquisite
@@bonbon-ni *Chef kiss* The most magnificent
I also found bully from one of the TH-cam videos on top ten open world games on ps2, ever since then I grinded multiple times on ps2 and Xbox 360.
I played the anniversary edition and it’s a flawless version of this absolute masterpiece of a game . Shame Rockstar didn’t make a sequel……
Imagine a modern Bully game with a game map to rival GTA. Maybe set it in the 80s or so. It'd be a blast to do kid shit again in a map like that.
No need for a map that huge when you can’t even drive cars.
@@YaBoiDREXthe loyalty missions will be for your siblings to pick you up and drop you off
The music of this game gives me nostalgia like no other. I love the mischievousness of it
My favourite part about this video is the acknowledgements of all the great references. You killed it- kept my ADHD ass entertained talking about a game I've already played. Good shit
Bully is one of my favorite games ever! I go back to replay it about once a year. Such a classic
An amazing game.Saw a little of Jimmy in myself. Rockstar sure knew how to make games back in the day.
I’ve watched like 3 of vids from this channel & they’re becoming my go-to. All his hard work goes unnoticed⭐️
Iv never heard a person say they didn’t like bully if actually played it
i never noticed that Earnest looks like the Woz, now ill never unsee it
If you ever played the warriors on the PS2 the combat is very similar to this game I don’t know which one dropped first but they both were crazy good
when i was younger Bully was one of my favorite games, i've recently bought it on steam, just to see if it was my unrefined taste in games or if it was up to all the classic GTAs and in a sense it was, i wasn't really challenging or creative (it's just GTA with teens duh) but in the other hand it was such a fun ride, i was laughing throughout all my gameplay.
it would be awesome to have Jimmy as a GTA protagonist!
Supppeeerrrr underrated channel. Continue with the awesome work brother, it will pay off ! God bless 🙏 !
Honestly, given how Rockstar turned GTA V into a microtransaction hellscape and changed the SD era of GTA games into a "Definitive Edition" that looks worse than the original games, it's probably for the best that Rockstar has forgotten about Bully.
Fortunately Rockstar just released a massive update to the GTA Trilogy: Definitive edition and fixed many of the bugs plaguing it as well as introducing a classic lighting mode where the lighting looks much more faithful to the original trilogy
this channel needs so manty subs and views. Nobody else does long form retrospectives this good.
I still play this pretty often. So underrated.
This is my all time favorite game the story feels emersive and just has slot of nostalgia tied to it for me that created a solid game and if you listen to the dialog it's actually a gold mine
a Bully 2 would be great. I loved this game
I would give anything for another bully game, I want gta 6 as much as everyone else but i want bully 2 far more
21:47 youre the first person i saw mention Gary’s possible motive aside from him being a sociopath.
I loved the little mini game where they had you mowing grass at school as a punishment of misbehaving
Gary reminds me of a kid I was good friends with once, same look and behavior, I think he was a direct clone of him to.
I love how the main character is trying to be nice and good boy and staying out of trouble while still being a gangsta
The music in the game is just the best and makes up like half the experience
I dig it.
For the driving, id love being able to romance girls (or boys haha) by showing up in a car and stuff. Also maybe a subplot involving upstaging some snooty rich bastard by racing his ferrari or whatever (you could win cuz the guy doesnt actually know how to hande his car) theres a lot of stuff you could do with it really
Also same re: the map size, i always liked smaller areas with more details and stuff to do in them rather than gigantic map of buildings you will never enter
Some of my favorite gaming memories are from the early 2000s and playing bully scholarship edition on Xbox 360 which was way better than it was on PS2!!!
It was one of the very first games I ever completed and got every single achievement in the game on the Xbox 360!!
nah ps2 version better scholarship edition is so buggy the only thing that’s better is the graphics imo plus they ruined jimmy’s face
@@LikAlwaysSolid that is so not true oh my God-
I’ve played them both and I completed 100% getting every achievement in the game on the scholarship edition and the PS2 version is so Janky I can’t even force myself to finish playing it
@@LikAlwaysSolid I also only experienced bugs in the PS two version playing it on my PS4 so maybe that’s why but I’ve never played the actual original PS2 version however I never experienced a single bug at all in the bully scholarship edition for Xbox 360 so I don’t know what you’re going on about there???
The scholarship edition had better graphics, way better control, it didn’t have screen tearing and clipping like the PS2 version did as well as it had additional classes that added extra value immensely to the game!
Don’t let your fanboy-ism get in the way of what is true!
If Bully is Rockstar's neglected son, State of Emergency must be Rockstar's forgotten child.
What is that?
(this is a joke btw.)
That's because Rockstar didn't develop it, just published it...
The scholarship edition puts you back in your room? I got robbed for my shoes for passing out on a mission when I played the original version. Also you could pay some kids to fight with you. It was fun getting a gang together to fight other cliques.
I love this channel i listen and watch while im at work
57:32 that's not Edgar, that was Gurney, his attack at the gym was ordered by Edgar.
I'd love to see a bully Prequel set in the 50s or 60s. It'd be cool to see that decade of school crabblesnitch talked about being regularly violent
I used to always play this game in the day. I played every version of Bully
Played this game when I was younger never finished it but always loved it, thanks man.
I've been binging your videos recently and I'm having a great time! You explain these games in an entertaining way and I'm learning/discovering cool stuff about them. Happy to have subscribed!
i used to be OBSESSED with this game 😭
Your comments on Russel’s attacks😂😭
One of my favorite games of all time❤
I love that quick cut on what you were gonna explain on that Edna date situation.
These videos are great. Bully is such a great game, and way overdue for a sequel.
Bully is such a underrated masterpiece I really hope RockStar Games does a Bully 2 in my lifetime!!!
How did I miss this. I’ll be listening to this on my way to work
When i finished this game i was about to cry
Because i was so good that felt too short for me
I would have preferred a Bully II over GTA 6... No excitement for the new game at all.
Or an L.A Noire II/spinoff.
Or even if they got a writer to make a Bully book series/comics.
Loved this video and nostalgia :)
I know its the thing to say "We want Bully 2". But then sometimes I think about what if the sequel woulda sucked? Sometimes it's best for our hidden gems to fly solo. It makes them feel that much more special. I may be in the minority with this train of thought but yea. lol
Can I just say the outsiders is a fantastic movie and the book was one of the few I actually cared to read in class
The video game walkthrough commentary is spot on love it man best on TH-cam! Appreciate all the hard work; god bless!
