A song that is incredibly important to me... hearing this for the first time, and around the same time that i ever even heard of "djent" or modern progressive rock, needless to say this seared into my brain and let me know - there is still some great music being made somewhere.
God I love this song and it never gets old... that said I do try to listen to it sparingly so that I don't wear it out. Not even kidding, sorry to say but that's what happened to me around 2010 - no shyte I had no awareness of any of these awesome modern bands, local radio is complete horse crap and that is being nice so I literally completely stopped listening to music. I was so burnt out on what I grew up on, 25+ years of the same songs over and over and over... you just can't take that.
So i started listening to "talk radio" and after my brain was rotted onto a puddle of mush from that crap someone made a simple suggestion to me. Why don't you play guitar anymore... music is stale, i am bored, etc... well you should try. So I came here to TH-cam to get some "lessons" because truth be told, i was a terribly sucky guitarist...
And I found Stevie T! Like him or not, at the time he was a good source of info. and he introduced me to "djent" and i am forever thankful!
One of the first ever modern songs I ever heard was Soil by Counterparts - and as a person suffering from a lifetime debilitating depression (really bad, for like well... let's just say 45 years to be conservative... yea) and that song, what it is about when I looked up the lyrics... if you have never heard it, drop what you are doing right now and go look it up... Changed my life. Gave me the help i needed to survive the last decade.
Unfortunately i think that train is pulling into the station and I don't see where to go from here. But i am forever grateful to all of these bands as music is a literal gift from god! I am sure I would have made it, as it seemingly takes a lot for your system to break down and "stop working" and believe me, it does, if you have ever heard the saying "if you don't have your health, you don't have anything" believe me, yes that is 1000% true, don't take it for granted.
As hard as life is, it is still amazing, wonderful, terrifying, awesome, awful, regrettable, irreplaceable, etc... it is everything and more and in the end, all memories good or bad seem to blend together to simply make the tale of the journey that i took and somehow, that seems ok.
If you read this, and after all of these years since this original thread started, and the years that have gone by since your post, Cheers!

Funny how all you ever seem to see from metal is the actually talented people who make the music, and then the salty hipsters who know Ableton like the love of a woman; Not at all.
