@@ronsmac The vet actually didn't scratch him at all! It was the vet who spoke up after the track scratched him and said that he hadn't even looked at the horse yet

Story of the race..
#2 Albahr backflip in the gate was scratch, horse was under the starting gates, the assistant starter was hurt, Jockey Frankie Dettori was fine assistant started pull him to safety in time, the winner Modern Games was next to Albahr, the officials scratched Modern Games, then put him back into the race only running for prize money, no one could bet on him, Modern Games won, but horses that finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, were counted for bets, those horses were the tri-fecta, never seen any thing like that before..it's the reason Modern games had no odds listed as scr..

Already seems a steady iimprover. Won this race on his final start as a 2YO in 2021, and has since traveled to France and won G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains-(French 2000 Guineas) on his 3YO seasonal debut.

Unfortunate about Modern Games being scratched out of the betting pool; that being said, I had a feeling Tiz the Bomb would run a good one.
Had $10 across the board. So thank you Kenny McPeek and Brian Hernandez.
I had him keyed in the super on a 6.00 ticket, later went back to cancel the ticket to take the 10 out and move the 6 up into 2nd but it just kept saying error when i tried to cancel. Ended up giving up and making another ticket but the race went off 🙃

@@KurtGFelix They didn't show it on the video here, but Modern Games and the #2 horse acted up in the gate and stuff happened. It looked like Modern Games went through the gate while the #2 horse fell back. Both horses were veterinarian scratches at that point. After a few minutes, it was revealed that the front gate for Modern Games was released by the starter and the horse just ran in response. The vets determined that Modern Games was uninjured and allowed him to run in the race. At that point, it was to late to reverse the scratch for betting purposes and there's something in the California rules(and I have no idea if other states have this) that allows a horse to run for the purse even if he isn't a betting interest.

Didn't seem to handle the turns that well but quickened really well in the last furlong.
I'm happy for the horse, but what people don't see is that it shows Modern Games as 7/2 on the Del Mar board. Not to mention the money was still in the pool. Unfortunately I played a Pick 4 and a Pick 5 and this is California, Not New York so I got the short end of the stick this go around.
And they wonder why they keep losing money and fans.

That’s terrible. He’s rightfully unhappy. Hitting a pick 6 or any winning bet should be rewarded. It’s theft otherwise.

I said modern games was top class after the tattersall stakes at Newmarket, I'd save him for Derby and bypass the mile at Newmarket next year leave that race for native trail,

@@nightowl7459 I should think so being by dubawi out of a newapproach mare and I've noticed he travels well and finishes very well and strongly,and native trail would be best probably over a mile being by oasis dream out of an observatory mare both of those 2 horses I remember well observatory beat giants causeway in the qe2 and ran placed in the prix isphahan ,
@@strawman2458 I actually think that Corebus will be Appleby's main hope in the Guineas rather than Native Trail, but I also like the way Modern Games runs as he was definitely better yesterday when going over a mile for the first time, my only concern is Dubawi isn't the strongest influence for stamina and the dams influence is questionable?
@@nightowl7459 possibly right ,they are both by dubawi the only difference is coraebus is out of o teofilio mare he is full bro to newapproach so both are very closely related if I were Charlie I'd train them both for Epsom,can't really see native trail as an Epsom horse huy but stranger things have happened, but its just a tonic to see a new trainer doing so well sheikh mo should move Charlie into Warren Place I think he's got it to fill Henry's boots,
@@strawman2458 Yeah that's true, I actually didn't give as thought about Corebus dams sire and funnily enough I was looking at Appleby's two year old by Teofilo that won today, Corebus is very similar breading to Modern Games it's just that I get the impression that Corebus won't get much further than a mile but I could be wrong? I have read the Sheik Mohammed now owns Warren Place but I saw a TH-cam video were Charlie Appleby was saying he's please to be training where he's at as it has all the best facilities but I'm sure that the Sheik has some plans for Warren Place so Appleby could possibly end up there?.
Feel like this rule needs to be modified. If a horse runs for purse money the result should count towards horizontals and verticals are refunded.
Anyone who placed bets on Modern Games still got money, bc all their bets got moved to Tiz the Bomb (who ran second and ultimately got the win placing for betting purposes)

Shame on those who booed Modern Games as he went by. He survived the mishap with Albahr and won. Sorry the SCR messed up the betting. But the horse and jockey didn't deserve the booing.

Seems it's about making $$$ on future breedings & finding a way through a loop hole. Dissapointed in Breeders Cup rules & Ethics on scratched horses.
This isn't the fault of the Breeders' Cup at all, the Breeders' Cup is actually the ones who went to the rulebook and allowed this horse to still run for purse money only, the premature scratch was the Del Mar steward's fault, they thought Modern Games was also scratched when he was let out of the gate.

I didn't have either horse, but, Breeder's Cup official's should revisit their rules on scratched horse's. What a public relations mess
The Breeders' Cup actually is the one that went to the rulebook and allowed this horse to run, it was the Del Mar stewards who scratched the horse inadvertently, not the Breeders' Cup

I've been saying it all along that capable horses that are better than ones entered are left out . Horse racing like the NFL is fixed but I'll continue to bet on horse racing because I can make money unlike nfl, nba or other fixed sports.
This was a mistake by the track stewards, they postponed the race for 20 minutes just to see if there was a way to get the horse back into the betting pools but there wasn't. Can't be fixed when the horse has no idea he was accidentally scratched and was running for purse money only. The horse doesn't even know what that means, nor does he care, he was just being a horse and running the race he likely would've ran either way
why no wagering on #1?
Charlie Appleby the trainer, owned both the 1 and 2 horse and the 2 reared in the starting gate so they backed both horses out and scratched them. Idk what exactly happened or why but they decided to let the 1 race only for purse money.
