- Here's a top ten campfire classic for sure - join me to learn the chord shapes and strumming patterns to this amazing song. We'll take apart the main riff slowly and do a slow speed playalong and then a full speed playalong toward the end. We also look at more lead ideas at the end of the video and jam with the looper. Fun!

The only thing wrong with this channel is that Shane doesn’t have an “m” instead of a “k” after number of subscribers! A fabulous tutor with infectious enthusiasm.

Harvest Moon is my favorite Neil Young album. Its nearly a perfect album where every song flows so well from one to the next and each track is brilliant. The title track and Unknown Legend are two my top Neil Young selections..
Brill Loved it , great tutorial as per usual.
By far Shane, the best lesson I've seen. I'm dreaming to play that song at least as brilliant as you do. It is not forbidden to dream about! Thank you. Well done! Hilmar from Berlin

I want to thank you for b reaking down these song to allow me to play. I have been learning the guitar for four + years now. Working various on line courses that help me with technique but not learning songs. Your style and easy going attitude has given me a much needed guitar life. I have watched your youtube channel and finally signed up to your Patreon page. Sure glad I did that. I have learned two songs in a month! Amazing. Thank you
Hey Shane, Can I play the Broom, lol great Song. Neil Young along with Gordon Lightfoot... definitely the best Muso's to come out of 🇨🇦 Canada. Brilliant Lesson ...thanks mate.
Ha! Thank you Russ - that's hilarious. I remember that broom scene from the MTV video. Fabulous! My best to you there lad - cheers, Shane
The funny part was there really was a broom one of the stray Gators I can't remember which one who it was in the band did definitely play a broom and it was on the track
Let's not forget Edward Bear, also from Canada.
@@tenlittleindians no.
Ann and Nancy Wilson are not from Canada.
Better Google the heart band members. Neither was Steve fossen Howard leese or Roger Fisher
Ann Nancy Wilson were military brats.
Born in California raised all over mainly Seattle.
Sorry today Gordon Lightfoot passed away just thought I'd share that with the group.
Absolutely brilliant lesson. A lot of hard work put in to produce it. Great song too. Much appreciated. 👏😀

@@GuitarAtWork Fun life couldn't get any better. I work from home and between calls I have you on my lap top, my guitar in my hands and the Beat Budy on the floor. Also got the Foot switch which is absolutely great cause when a call comes in "one press" of the foot switch button to mute and there you go. Fun isn't even close. more like ecstatic. Nice harmonics Shane ..👍👏👏Great 👍🎸👍
Thank you Paul - they're really cool for sure. Cheers, Shane
I didn't realize Michael Caine taught guitar. Thanks Shane! Nice!
Great instructions, thank you for the tutorial!!
Thanks for playing the intro the same way I do without all the extra movement. No need to move the middle 2 fingers at all. Just use the pinky and first finger for the moving parts.
Brilliant lesson Shane as always - thank you for the inspirational sessions 👍🎸😎
Thank you Andrew - greatly appreciated. Always fun to do these videos and to hear from people who enjoy them. Cheers, Shane
Thanks for the lesson. Could you explain the fingering for the 'Fancy D' ?
This video puts every other Harvest Moon teaching video to shame. You are many levels above all the other Internet teachers I've seen. I love to play the guitar, but compared to most I have no talent.....I have had to work hard at guitar over the years and got decent at finger picking by practicing until my fingers bled......as they say! I started with that because I thought if I could learn to finger pick, strumming would be a walk in the park and when I decided to work on "strumming" I picked Harvest Moon to start that process. When I watch the other Harvest Moon instructional videos I have to play them in slow motion to figure out when to strum up or down......YOU understand that just being able to play the notes isn't sufficient to make music, you actually have to have rhythm and your CLEAR instruction on when to strum up or down followed by playing the WHOLE song in perfect rhythm makes it so much easier to follow and learn. I was able to learn and play all the parts in just a couple of hours thanks to your video. Usually it takes me a week or two, even for a relatively easy song like this. I've been a guitar hack long enough and now in my 70's I have the time and the NEED to master this instrument. You will be my Yoda, I'm signing up and hope you keep doing this long enough to help me reach my goals. May the Force be with you!😎
A big thank you for that. Very glad to have you here with us - thanks for the encouraging words. Cheers! Shane
hello, i agree with you, tips the songsterr application is very good to help for explain the rythm of the song, too
The A7sus4 is harder than it needs to be. Sounds great with an A6sus4 instead
Doesn't show how to do the mouth harp solo
All of his instructional videos are first class.
What's the chord/shape at the end of Riff #2 ? That's the most challenging one, so far...
Great tutorial as always !
Guitar part done. Harmonica solo done. Just have to be able to do them at the same time now!
Fabulous Kat - congrats! Have fun with it! Shane
Brilliant
Thank you - very glad you enjoyed. My best to you! Shane
Great job Shane!
Thank you Mark - much appreciated and always fun to hear from you. Shane
On the G6 I play it with ring finger 5th fret/ low E (6th string), and index finger 3rd fret/high E (first string)...Idk if that's still a G6, but it sounds right.
Great channel, thanks so much!
Thank you Shelley - glad you’re enjoying! Shane
Great lesson as always Shane, love Neil Young, Heart of Gold was one of the first songs I really remember as a kid. Our teams are golfing, might as well learn some new songs!
Ha! For sure Bud - thanks for that. Summer is here. Cheers, Shane
Great lesson...
As always, fantastic lesson Shane! I had just watched Neil doing a live version of this song on MTV Unplugged the other day on YT! An amazingly gifted musician for sure! Anyway, hope that all is well with you.
Thank you Steve - I saw the very same video just the other day,. Fabulous. All is well here and hope same for you. Cheers, Shane
Terrific lesson, Shane! My only suggestion would be to do a playthrough first to see how the whole song should sound and be played. In my experience at least with tutorials, I find this to be most helpful. Other than that, I love your teaching approach and style!
Thank you John. I getcha and somewhat agree with you - but…..most would not sit through a play through - they’d move along. Shane.
@@GuitarAtWork Probably so. You know your audience best.
Awesome, as always 👍👍
Thank you my friend! Shane
Shane, great job as always on your lesson here. You make learning easy and fun. One suggestion. Cut back on the coffee a bit. I wish I could play you at 75% because you talk so fast! Keep on rockin'.
Thank you Perry. Much appreciated. I believe there is a 75% playback option on youtube. Cheers, Shane
Is there the harmonica walk thru anywhere?
Your one cool guy thank you
Vey good!
Thanks for that. Hope you're having fun! Shane
Brilliant, absolutely flippin brilliant. Neil Young lovin Brit since ‘72. Dylan before that tho.🤣😊
A big thank you for that - happy to have you here! Shane
Another great lesson - thanks. I believe that you're off on your harmonics by one. The one extra you're showing is the 4th one-on the D string. Check out the TH-cam of Neil in January 1993 on Leno's show.
Can anyone tell me if you're supposed to play the low D string (E tuned down) when you're playing the A7sus chord?
No - don’t play that string. Begin strum on the A string. Cheers, Shane
Hi Shane your one of the top for me buddy i am addicted to your amaizing videos i wish i cauld put more time with my guitar. Shane
What code is Harvest Moon I couldn’t get it to show? Thanks
Great song. Hey Shane would you consider a fingerstyle arrangement of Poco Crazy Love? Thank you Sir always enjoy your videos.....
Thanks for that - I'll give that song some thought. Hope you're having fun with it! Shane
Good lesson but unless I’m mistaken you don’t say what the fingering is for the “fancy D”
I remember when this song was released. I was still in university. So it's been years now. It seemed to be played every hour, on every station - regardless of the format - to the point of getting sick of it. Luckily for some reason they also seemed to overplay "Old King" off the album also so one could quickly point their ire at it instead. Luckily time has passed and it remains a good song.
Is there anywhere I can find the song with the chords from you thanks 🙏
Sure thing Turgay - go to patreon.com/guitaratwork
I wonder what key harmonica he uses to play along with this?
Hiya - the song is in the key of D - a D harmonica will do the trick. Cheers, Shane
Where do I go for the paper? I don't know anything about Patreon. Like your teaching style...
Hi Jan - you can find these sheets and many many more at patreon.com/guitaratwork
Hope you’ll join us there! Shane
What model Taylor guitar is that? It has a nice rich tone.
Thanks David - it’s an 814CE (2019). I really love it. Cheers, Shane
