Vivaro Campervan Side Window Fitting Installation

  • In this video, I cover fitting a tinted window in the sliding door of my Vauxhall (Opel) Vivaro campervan conversion (See below for items used links). The Vivaro side window fitting is very straight forward and transforms the sliding door, allowing a lot more light in to the campervan conversion and granting a great view when sitting inside the camper looking out. The sliding door window is fitted by cutting out the outer skin of the door, using the inner skin as a template for cutting. Once the window hole is cut, window bonding sealant is used to ensure the window is both water tight and fitted permanently.

    I found it easier and cleaner finish to cut the hole and then carpet ghe door. That way you can tuck the excess carpet between the two metal skins before applying the edging strip. And finish installing the window.

    Good video. I've got an older vivaro to convert and have the barn door windows and 2 sides to do. I really wanted the barn doors so I can have a centre mirror and see out of the back. I'm too used to cars where I can see out the back!

      you can always fit a reverse camera and put it on a live power feed to give the same as a mirror

    You could have let light in with a sky light plus it would have vented hot air without the problems of opening a window, had a mozzy screen and blackout blind built in

      Most of the roof is covered with the solar panel so not an option. I would prefer the door window anyway. I like a nice view when I'm parked up

      @@lys823 I guess I'm not a view guy. Insulation is only as good as its weakest link. A window will negate some of the insulation/soundproofing.....a compromise on performance. Enjoy your view.

      Solar on the roof takes up the space and both front windows wind down, sliding door opens, rear doors open, adding a roof vent wouldn't make that much difference nor let much light in

    Have you had any side effects of using that angle grinder? I heard the hot metal fragments burn your paint and eventually you’ll have rust spots where the paints burnt?

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no issues and most of the sparks/fragments went inside the van which were just swept away when completed. Clean any area after carrying out grinding and there should be no problems, but I'd always recommend using a jigsaw over a grinder, I just ran out of jigsaw blades at the time

    Can I ask what are the front seats you have in the van. They don't look standard. Did you have to modify them to get them to fit.

    Man hope no one uses that truck when it’s 30’c. You need some ventilation.

      Both front windows wind down, sliding door opens, rear doors open, a tiny opening in the side window would make practically zero difference
