    Bought one at a yard sale for 20 dollars. Used very little. Air filter not even dirty, chain barely worn. Bought new carb kit, came with lines air filter, spark plug etc. Reason for owner discarding was the fuel was rotten and fuel lines crumbled. They crumbled so bad I would have not figured it out where they go without this video. Runs great.

    Excellent video. I got the same kit and routed the lines like you did. Saw started right up after not being used for 8 years. Saved me a bunch of money. Thanks.

    You are 100% right on. A $23 kit and your video saved me $400 on buying a new saw. I read that my Craftsman 42cc 18" saw was made by Husquavarna. True or not it is still a good saw. Thanks a ton

    I picked up that kit. Fired right up. Had to tweek the high speed mixture to what turned out to be a half turn. Low speed and idle were right on.
    The air filter seems a bit big. Definitely different from the old one. Maybe it'll shrink?
    Definitely a decent carb kit. Appreciated the adjuster tool.
    Thanks again!

    I have 50cc 20" Craftsman not getting fuel in bulb! Saw is 10+ years old and not used much since it was returned from warranty work for bad fuel lines so probably same issue? Tried to give it to some tree trimmers and they didn't want it! Gonna remove carb in morning and try replacing lines, again!. Line in tank is black rubber and seems hard. Anxious to see what they look like around carb! Great video, you explain things well!! Hopefully this repair will keep it out of the landfill!!

    • @smallengineguys
      @smallengineguys  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It probably needs a new carburetor. Give me the make and model ill find a good one for you. Fuel lines will be the same.

    • @smallengineguys
      @smallengineguys  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      May need a new primer bulb as well. There is a one way valve in them that goes bad

    • @judisinger3693

      I sent reply earlier but don't see it now? Maybe forgot to hit send?? Replaced lines, but new bulb didn't come with it. Took carb apart and cleaner but one of jets is clogged as it backup in my face! My model # is 358.350982
      Bulb fills up now, but won't start. Haven't tested for spark, but did put in new plug. Guess I'm stuck til I get a carb ordered. Line from tank to carb was collapsed and smaller in tank than outside! Seems like I pulled some stringy stuff out of line when I removed filter last fall and ordered new filters and lines. I should have ordered kit with new carb!!! Model 358.359982 50cc 20" Craftsman

    Great video my model was a 16 36cc but same procedures. Thank for you help. When I took mine apart all the lines were shot and disconnected so I wasn't sure where they all go. Just very slight differences with the throttle line.

    Just did this today on a similar saw. 38cc craftsman? It fought me a lot, but I finally got it running and tuned. Like this, I had to do some modifications to the "kit" carburetor since it was hitting the airbox. Included a quick $20 trip to homedepot to get a pair of extended needle nose pliers for pulling those fuel lines into the tank. I kept the intake on the small line, but was thinking you could probably go either way. Hard to push that big filter onto that little line.

    • @smallengineguys
      @smallengineguys  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah that is another reason i switched lines

      Its probably not running hot its probably just to much oil or the muffler is full of carbon and its burning off.

      i drain the gas out of mine fill it with sea foam or marvel mystery oil prime it up then store it. the oil keeps it from dryrotting. then dum it out put in a little gas prime it dump it put in new 2 cycle gas and your good to go.

    I copied you for the most part on my Craftsman 358.351610. I didn't swap the lines around as I couldn't reach the return line to pull that guy, so I left it. I studied your flow to make sure the flow was still in the correct order. I fueled her up with fresh mixed gas and she fired up right away and died. Been struggling to get her to pop off again, I think i've totally flooded it out at this point. I'm wondering if the settings are causing it to run far to rich at base. Any suggestions on how I can adjust those adjustment screws to reduce the richness and just get her to pop off?

    • @robshaw4503
      @robshaw4503 หลายเดือนก่อน

      bought a shitty carb, wasn't HIPA. Bought a HIPA compatible with my saw, worked right away. Tinkered with the carb settingss and made life difficult.

    So your gasket stayed. Mine was stuck to the carburetor. I took my time and peeled it off slow but a little chunk on the inside by the big hole stayed on the carburetor. Outside of gasket has a good 1/8 inch before the the missing piece. My kit didn’t have a matching gasket so I reused it. It fires up right away. It ran and I cut some stuff up but restarting it and getting it to run was a pain in the butt. Is it that gasket or do I just not have the carb adjusted right yet?

    • @MWM82
      @MWM82 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cancel that. It does have that gasket. At least it has the one in the kit you recommended. Worth changing you think or?

    • @JoeButter

      The line has always been too big or too small to go in the tank

    • @smallengineguys

      the line in the kits is the right size. it is just a tight fit. i think its 3/16

    You literally put a filter on the return line.

    • @smallengineguys
      @smallengineguys  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope. Just switched line sides. Do exactly what i a man that does 4 or 5 of these homeowner saws a week did. Or believe you know more than me and do what you want. My way the correct way it will run.

    • @larrybyle8718
      @larrybyle8718 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you put the fuel filter on the small line when you hold the saw on it’s side (closest to the ground) the fuel filter will be in more fuel in the tank than if the fuel line filter end was closer to the filler cap which would be facing up with your placement and might need more fuel in the tank to keep running. Just a thought, but other than that your routing is sure easier.
