Thanks again for this video. I was having trouble understanding Giant’s claim about a seatpost adapter being available for a rear rack. Makes sense now!
Thanks for making this video, it's near impossible to find info online about mounting cargo racks on these Giant bikes that don't have mounts integrated in the seat stay.
Hi. Very helpful video Thankyou. I have a Revolt Advanced 2 which I love. Struggling to get a rack for it. What is the exact model you use here please?
Thank you very much, I'm glad you found it useful. It's an Axiom Journey. Here's a link to the manufacturer site. www.axiomgear.com/products/racks/journey-racks/journey/
Hi thanks for the helpful video. The giant website (and that of other retailers reselling the same product) indicate to clamp the d-fuse rack adapter to the frame instead of the the seat post itself. Are they being overly cautious? my "revolt advanced" frame and seat post are both carbon, so am afraid of using the clamp in either -- especially with the forces that a loaded rack will put on the site of attachment. Althought from the looks of it in your video, the clamp would not fit on the frame part below the seat clamp, only on the seat post. Any thoughts on this? On the other hand Giant does advertise their own rack that bolts with a single rack arm and bolt to the frame-bit connecting the seat stays. My current rack which I like and trust, uses the same mounting system as the one you have in your video (i.e. 2 arms) and would prefer to use that with the adapter if it is safe on carbon. What do you think? thanks, Al
Sorry for the delay in responding. For some reason Google didn't notify me of the comment. I would be concerned about clamping the frame for sure. I'd just stick with the Giant adapter for the seat post since it. Is designed to take the force. Actually I have gone to a frame bag away from the rear rack. To me the rear rack caused some balance issues when handling I think due to the weight being behind me. The frame bag moves the weight to the center which feels much more natural to me.
It came with my Contend but I had to buy it for the Revolt. Maybe call a Giant dealer directly and ask? It is odd how Giant does their parts, they are not well organized in that area.
@@thegraveldude Thanks for the quick response even after so much time :D. It is a bit confusing, even if I got the adapter now, the rear racks have changed (now only have one mounting point to the post) so it wouldn't even be compatible with the adapter :S. Yours have two!
What do you think about using a revolt advanced as a touring bike with a conventional rack and panniers carrying about 9/10 kgs. Bearing in mind the forces involved upon the mounts on the drop outs I’m wondering if it would void the frame warranty if it were to cause the frame to crack. What do you think?
I am not sure about that. I would think it could handle it with no issues but I'm sure a dealer could help you answer exact weight capacity. I think it would be a great touring bike though, I've thought about doing some bike biking myself, I just need someone to go with, not sure about doing that on my own. :)
That you for the video! Otherwise I wouldn’t have come across the seat post adapter. Some giant websites do not list Revolt as compatible with it, though. Which is apparently a mistake. Or are there differences in the D-Fuse seat post dimensions?
It might be different actually. I have a 2019 Contend as well with the adapter but the seat post looks a little different. I try to ask my LBS where I bought the bike and see if it's one model or many. It's interesting as well that my Contend came with the adapter but the Revolt did not, I had to buy it from my LBS. . Either way I'm glad I helped you out that's why I'm doing these videos, to help out others with what I've learned.
@@thegraveldude Haha! After reading your comment I had an epiphany: when unpacking the bike there was some weird piece of metal. And here it is: the seat post adapter that came with the bike!
Haha! I had the same problem with my Contend, I saw it in the bag and had no idea what it was till I asked my LBS about putting a rack on my Revolt and then it all came together. Wish it was better documented somewhere how to use the adapter.
You should be able to use a large number of racks. I can't remember the brand I'm using but it is not Giant. As for weight the rack is not much at all, it's the bag and all the items you put on it since you have all that extra room. For reference I've moved to a frame bag away from the rack and it weights 2 lbs when loaded with my regular items I take on a ride (tube, tools, Co2, tire levers, etc.).
I believe this is the unit. I would check with your local Giant dealer though to be sure. bobs-bicycles.com/shop/components/skewers-seat-collars/seat-collars/d-fuse-rack-mount-adapter/
Im pretty sure the frame is actually aluminium at the back and is integrated into the carbon. It kind of has to be, there is no way you are screwing into a carbon fibre thread there. My Revolt looks like it, they do a good job of hiding it though

You're welcome, glad it helped you out.

Glad you found it useful. Yeah that is why I make these videos. I'm surprised Giant has so little content like this out there.

Does that adapter replace the other seat post clamp? Not much documentation from Giant
No it is only for the rear rack installation, you still use the standard built in seat post clamp.
Greetings. Can I find out the model of the trunk?
Sure it's an Axiom I believe it's a Journey rack. You can find more here. www.axiomgear.com/products/racks/

This adapter does not show on Giant’s website nor at any of the retailers in The Netherlands. Where can I even buy this adapter..?

Yes the one I purchased has two. I think some of the Axiom units still have two connectors.

Can you stick a regular rack on this or is it giant specific? Also interested in how much weight it can take.
