Few years ago, when the Roma (Gypsy) Taxi driver in Frankfurt to my amazement almost understood my conversation with my wife in the native tongue of Rajasthan, a north western state in India, I decided to work on this and find out how.

Since the Taxi Driver understood the language of Rajasthan, I went through the history of Rajasthan or Rajputana as it was originally called and discovered that there was a huge exodus of the tired soldiers of the army of great Rajput King Prithviraj Chauhan around 1050 AD who ,as the history says, fought 17 wars with Mohammed Ghauri. Most left with women folks leaving empty villages. Most Roma belong to the fine Rajput warrior caste and others were farmers called Jat who also were in the army.

While the great king was keen on continuing battles, many soldiers did not want to fight more wars and stayed at home. For a Rajput staying at home during war was a stigma. They were taunted for staying home at the time of war.

Therefore, as a folk song of Rajasthan says, they left their native land in groups. They left from no other part of India. Some went west and are called Gypsies or Roma now and some went down to south India where they still are in their red and yellow color clothes and with huge mustache. You can see them on google by clicking "Lambada in south India". I am from Rajasthan but live in south Indian city of Hyderabad and hence see Lambadas daily.

I was further shocked again when our Gypsy (Lambada) maid mostly understood an old Hungarian Roma lady talking in Romani about Nazi atrocities on a BBC program on TV while I understood it by reading the English captions. Apparently, the two ladies 9000 miles away now spoke same language spoken about 1000 years ago in their land of origin. We being from Rajasthan still use many of their words.

On the way to west, Roma took words from Persian like bibi and many other tongues including Greek (drost for road) and from Armenian and so on. Also, few joined them on the way from Sindh, another Indian province, now in Pakistan. They are still called Sinti within Roma and words like laklo, lakli, chavo are from Sindhi.

They somehow lost their surnames of fine Rajput warrior clans. Roma may try to find surnames like Sisodia, Chauhan ,Shekhawat, Nainavat Rathore, etc. But they kept first Indian names until 19th century like Amos Bihari and his daughter Panna Cinkova, both great Roma musicians from Hungary. Panna meaning Emerald is a pure Rajasthani name not used in other parts of India. You may look in Google for “Panna Cinka ". If they were not Indians, why otherwise would they have Indian names in Europe in the year 1711?

Today Roma use many of the words from Rajasthani (or Marwari) and Hindi, both of Sanskrit origin. Few are ek do trin nak(nose) bal(hair)angusth(finger) bersh(year) diwas(day) sassusussro ( mother and father in law, from rajasthani) saaloSali (brother and sister in law from Rajasthani) chora(boy) chori(girl) cior(chor, meaning thief)) gia sov, thalle, upralpurano (old ), dukh, kasht, tato, langhal(lame) maang, des, lajja and so on. About half are from Rajasthani and Hindi both of which originate from Sanskrit. I know hundreds. There are thousands. Luis Mori, another Roma has sent me a huge list of Romani words which I match with my Roma maid's vocabulary. Sometimes grammar has changed to European style, like we would say sov gia and Roma would say gia sov. Same meaning though. Has slept.
Also, all Indian languages including today's Rajasthani has two yous, one for Junior and one for senior. Romani and the language of Lambada even today have only one you which is "tu" used for Juniors and for very close ones which must have been so 1000 years ago.

Romani words are from pre-Muslim era in India and hence pure Sanskrit like hiv(him in Sanskrit) for snow or ice is used while we in India now say barf which is Persian. Please go to the following in TH-cam to see more. “Romani an Indian lost Language”th-cam.com/video/UJvn7nLeZaI/w-d-xo.html by Adriano, an Italian Roma from whom I have learned much and also“Roma girl from Kosovo goes to India.....”th-cam.com/video/q6HfenInNEA/w-d-xo.html

All Roma had mustache which was necessary for Rajput warriors. Purity codes of Roma were till recently practiced in India like Roma breaking the plate if animal licked it. My mother used to give the plates to beggars if our dog ever licked it even once. Also, food once served on table but not eaten does not go back to Fridge or saved for eating later. That is why death rate within Roma during great European plague was so low as claimed by scholars.

Roma had also carried our proverbs like "while choosing a daughter in law, believe your ears more than eyes” meaning reputation of the girl's family was more important than her beauty. Another common proverb is "If the road is crooked, you can't walk straight."

Roma eventually lost their religion, quite understandably but Sara kali of southern France is a Hindu deity of Goddess kali favourite of Rajputs. The deity is immersed in water body every year like we do in India. The Vatican has not recognized this deity as it has no link to Christianity. Romani also has an unusual word"trishul" from Sanskrit and Hindi meaning a spear with three fingers. This spear is associated with Hindu God Mahadev or Shiva and the war cry of Rajputs Regiment in India till today is " Har har Mahadev".

Please see on You tube "Dr. Ian Hancock: Keynote Address at Romani Studies Conference, UC Berkeley" th-cam.com/video/NTsqiP196Uw/w-d-xo.html. Dr. Hancock who is a Roma makes very scholastic analysis of Romani history from European side. He successfully dismantles myths like Roma are old Jews or from Egypt or came from within the earth. He establishes that Roma indeed came from India. However he has not said much about which part of India are they from and which language from India they speak. He only mentions "Indian Language" while there is nothing like Indian Language. We have hundreds of languages. India had hundreds of independent kingdoms. Rajputana, as Rajasthan was called then had many kingdoms too. Prithviraj Chauhan was the king of Ajmer in central Rajasthan from whose army Roma came.

He also links Romani with Sanskrit while truth is that Romani has words from Rajasthani and Hindi alone both of which originate from Sanskrit. Romani is made of languages which have Sanskrit base and directly from Sanskrit. There are many words in Romani which none else from India except those from Rajasthan will understand like tato meaning hot. He also says Roma are Doms who burn dead bodies which is certainly not true. Doms live about 1000 miles away from Rajasthan and are dark skinned.

Many Roma have come to Delhi and Jaipur in Rajasthan to get their DNA tested and were doubly assured of their Rajasthan roots.
Also, one may see on TH-cam " Romani Dances in India-Kalbelia "th-cam.com/video/E-Y9sUl4i4Io/w-d-xo.htmlf Rajasthan which is same as Flamingo dance of the Roma. Even the dress of the dancers are same.

As a student in the US during seventies, I saw some slightly brown students speaking language somewhat familiar to me. They said they were new Roma migrants to the US from Spain but I did not know about Roma at that time.

I have received many mails from some Roma stating Roma were Doms and untouchables from India and so on. This should not be true. First, there are no Doms in Rajasthan. Second, Roma who came to south still have mostly Rajput surnames or "Gotras" and very few Bhil (a jungle tribe, but soldiers too) surnames. Gotras or lineages dont change in India. Third, down trodden and timid would not venture leaving home to travel thousands of miles and fourth, Doms are very dark even for Indian standards while Roma are not. Fifth, Romani has many war related words including a word for prisoner of war as Dr. Hancock says. Only a martial clan would use and keep alive these words.

There should be no doubt that Roma are our lost pral and Pena (We would say pra and behna). Hats off to them to keep the language and culture alive even after 50 generations while humanity in the entire world now melts away in two generations.

I am in contact with many European Roma from whom I gather some new facts time to time. I have also gathered the above information from history of Rajasthan.

We had a family of Romani in my neighborhood as a child. I went to school with two of them. The girl was distant but very beautiful. Her brother was deemed handsome by the girls and seemed very outgoing and pleasant. They seemed like perfectly normal to me and their parents were said to be good, hardworking people. It’s terrible when people are judged by their culture or the color of their skin. 😢

@Untold You can talk about race all day long, you don't even have to be right. You haven't been remotely racist as your words don't harbour prejudice or hatred, you're just speaking your mind and I encourage you to keep doing it. Race is such a massive focus right now and I can't go a day without hearing someone being accused of racism. From my experience, there are very few racists about, and anyone that is genuinely racist and hateful will rightfully be treated badly by society.

@Untold in a full blood roma .. so if you know the history of gypsies roma/romani than you would understand why .. first of al we were stolen from india by the ottoman empire and brought to europe as slaves and many rich Europeans buy them for slaves just as the balcks in the states.. so we the majority of us were brought to europe we didn't go there on are own and than Europeans killed us slaved us tourtured us burn us to death families killed.. this is the story so now i ask you who the f..k you wanna integrate?? To who ??? Be like the people who wanna see us dead and who did the mosy horror things to us ? You think the majority of you looks at us they friends ? Bcuz there are roma whose soo poor they have nothing to eat stoles a bread and they say ohhh criminal ohh my god etc .. the best part was 1940's for us roma ! When hitler wanted to earse us litterly ! Ever since than we are keeping the distance from Europeans! For more than thousand years they tourtured killed us ! .. the gypsy word original was used by Europeans to name us gypsies = dirty snd sick Untouchables thats just shows their mind set about us .. and not just us of course Europeans also loved the blacks natives jews latin americans ! And us the favorite the roma gypsies .. roma gypsies the most simple humans on earth if you dont accept us fine no problem just leave us alone .. if you respect us as humans beings than we gonna be your best friend ! .. you asking us to forget our history and be like you ! The enemy.. so no thanx were good we are the most poor but we are also the happiest .. shame on you for having roma blood and to say be like Europeans! Did you lost your mind ??? Anyways Europeans have their criminals as well .. Europeans mind is = be like us or suffer ! I always felt that I had some gypsy or Indian blood. since I started traveling in India, I feel it more and more. it is known that the area in Slovenia where I live was inhabited by the Uskoks, who fled from east to west during the Turkish invasions of the Ottoman Empire. Gypsies were apparently also among them. most of the surnames in our village are still mostly Eastern - Serbian, Bosnian, Dalmatian. all end in ich. my ancestors also had that last name. It is entirely possible that there were gypsies among these refugees, and through them I inherited gypsy blood, which I strongly feel in myself.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of problems. I used to be shocked by Eastern Europeans not liking them but then I realized Gypsy have issues. No problem with having some gypsy or Indian blood but I think they have been impacted by years of moving and running away. It seems like many structures are missing in their families. I feel for those of them who are law abiding citizens and want to just have a normal life. The reputation built by others is hurting them.
Stealing and begging do not help you innthe long run. Their women beg while diguising as Arabs. When they have blue eyes, they claim a Muslim European country like Bosnia. I think it is really annoying especially in a country like Canada where they can receive proper help before starting a honest life and work. But they do not seem to like work. They may have Indian roots but arr nothing like Indians. Indians are hard working people and are usually amomg most successful immigrants.

This has been the modus operandi for revisionists for quite some time now. Calling every tribe/clan/Varna not originally belonging to India. If they are not originally from India, then why aren't there any Rajputs in their supposed original homeland? Even if they were fully driven out/migrated out of their homeland or just vanished, why aren't there any records of their existence outside of India? Indian historical texts from atleast a millenium before common era mention Rajputs. They are not related to Jats, who migrated to the northern part of India from around Sindh. Banjaras are the travellers who don't settle down and keep moving which is antithetical to what Varnashram aims for, i.e. building civilization. Both aforementioned communities are not even classified as Kshatriyas. So, not related to Rajputs.

Firstly, genetics is a fairly new science. Before it appeared on the scene, no one really knew, except few and it wasnt backed by a lot of evidence, that Roma had Indian ancestry. People and even the Roma had all kinds of theories about their origins, since they didnt have any written history. And most of them still don't know it. Secondly, modern Roma follow various religions, even Islam and Christianity. And hence some of them are infact European muslims. They have been European longer than a lot of other ethnicities/people groups and a number of modern European nations. So they can be all that you mentioned except the Arab part, which, if it's true at all, is not good on their part and that totally justifies the everyday persecution faced by ALL OF THEM.

The gypsy people also migrated to China but few people know about it.
Here's one interesting article from Chinadaily.
    Legendary gypsies once in China
    Liu Jun
    2005-09-28 06:26
You may think of Carmen, a fickle girl in Georges Bizet's "Carmen," or Esmeralda, an incredible dancer in Victor Hugo's "Notre-Dame de Paris," when talking about gypsies.
However, very few would imagine that this legendary people came to China once, believing that they stuck only to the roads of Europe. In fact, "Gypsies set foot on Chinese soil some 200 years earlier than on European soil. To be exact, during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) when they toured to Northwest China's Shaanxi and Gansu provinces," says Cai Hongsheng, a history professor from Sun Yat-sen University in South China's Guangdong Province.
Back then, gypsies were called Luoli in Chinese. Cai noted that the name originally came from Persia, where gypsies arrived in the fifth century. He made reference to a paper by Yang Zhijiu, a historian at Nankai University, who died in 2002 at the age of 87. Yang was an expert on the Yuan Dynasty and Hui history.
In his paper entitled "Gypsies in China's Yuan Dynasty Luri Huihui" published in 1991, Yang wrote: "These nomadic people, called 'Luoli' in Chinese with the similar pronunciation as 'Luri,' came to northern China's Shaanxi and Gansu in the 13th century, before they arrived in Europe around the 15th century, where they remain as gypsies today."
Yet, "The name Luoli in Chinese or Luri in Persian is different from either Gypsy in English or Bohemian in French. Either Gypsy or Bohemian is a derogatory name for it contains a connotation of scorning their wandering lifestyle," Yang wrote in the paper.
However, Cai pointed out that Yang didn't provide answers to pending questions such as where the gypsies came from? Where else had they been? And do Luoli remain in China today?
Regrettably, no more records have been found as yet in order to help answer these questions. Yang's studies unfortunately came to an end when he died in 2002.
Another essay by Li Hao, an official from Yunnan Province who is also interested in the subject, described the Luoli's lifestyle patterns around Dali, a scenic spot in Yunnan, during the end of the Yuan to the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
In Li's essay, Dali was then an important gateway of cultural exchange and trading with southeastern Asian countries, and those from India, Persia, and the Luoli, named as "Moluo" in southwest China.
Similar to how gypsies are depicted in films and on stage, Li described how the Luoli would sing and dance in the streets, or sell herbs and practise fortune telling to make a living.
It was believed that the Gypsies also made money by singing and dancing. They created more than 100 songs during their stay in Dali. "Those songs were sung in Chinese, indicating that Luoli gradually adopted Han culture, and successfully found a way to make a living," says Cai.
Furthermore, it also suggested that the Luoli's performances were well accepted by local people. "Without large audienc

Romani people are actually people of Indus Valley, who ran away from their ancestral land towards Europe through Iran and Turkey due to continuous attacks of horse mounted robbers across Hindu Kush mt. from central asia, in 11th. century, particularly Mahmud of Gazna, now in Afghanistan.
They are Sindhi from Sindh, now in Pakistan.
They themselves claim to ba called as Sinti means Sindhi. Their language is an outdated version of Sindhi language. Kolachi clan, city of Karachi belongs to them they now auction their daughters in Bulgaria, but to only other Kolachi.

Rajasthan, before Bin Qasim was part of Sindh and Indus Valley and its rulers were of Rai clan, originally Jats of Jaisalmer, now in Rajasthan, Bharat.
(India is a separate disputable term.)
Arora was their capital, wherefrom they used to rule. The after effects of the site are still present near Rohri, in district of Sukkur in Sindh, not in Bharat.
Rajasthan is greatly based on the desert of Thar and half of Thar desert is lying in Sindh.

Rajasthan is too broad a term and too vast a region for it to be clumped together with Sindh. Brahmin/Chach dynasty was ruling Sindh for atleast 8 decades before bin Qasim (and even after that) but your cherrypicking to exaggerate the prominence of Rai dynasty (only because they were supposedly Jats) who ruled for only 4 decades and ruled only parts of western Rajasthan is understandable. • @ChroniclesOfIndia
      @ChroniclesOfIndia  ปีที่แล้ว

Endogamy mentioned in the video refers to the caste and tribe based endogamy. Nothing to do with gotra. A clan is loosely defined in this context. Like Kshatriya is a varna, within which lies a people group called Rajputs. Now you may choose to call it a tribe or a clan. But then Rajputs are settled all over North, East, Central and even southern India. Now for a Rajput living in say Himachal, endogamy would be to marry a Rajput girl from Himachal. And marrying a Rajput girl from UP would still be exogamy. So that is how endogamy is practiced on various levels. And you seem too naive to dish out general statements about the whole of North India. Please try to read and learn more before resorting to namecalling.
      Thanks.

I have lived in Hungary for a year and saw many of these gypsy groups. Hungarians also believe that the origin of these people is from India.
I have been quite querious about this community, and have seen a film about their life, confined in a autonomous state, somewhere in eastern europe.
They are a happy-go getter community and believe in eat-drink-dance. When run out of money sneak into western europe, go begging, stealing, road side robbery, etc.

ALL of Europe was populated FROM India. 10,000 years ago was ice age in Europe. 5000 years ago was the great Mahabhatat WAR. Every war make people move away from the war torn area. Similarly the people of North India moved to present day Persia, then spread to Greece. Many Greek stories are similar to those of India. Study them carefully and see the similarity. The names of the characters are different now. Whole of Europe was settled like this. Their EGO is too big to admit being from India. India is regarded as dirty, poor, uneducated. This was the result of infighting and Mogul rule. The world is being educated now through videos like this.

    • @ihavenoidea2736
      @ihavenoidea2736 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

No, in fact India was populated from Europe. Half of India are indigenous, the other half migrated from modern day Ukraine, Russia and the surrounding places. Aryan groups like persians, Hindustanis, Kashmiris, Sindhis, Punjabis, Bangladeshis, Sinhalese people, and even Roma are originated from the same people as Italians, Germans, Frenchmen, Englishmen, Spaniards, Russians, Norwegians, Ukrainians, Greeks, Albanians, Armenians and so many more, they all were in fact white. So yeah, today northern India's population is of white heritage, also the population in Persia. Even the Vedas, even the Ramayana and the Mahabharata were written by white aryans coming from Eastern Europe. The similarities between Indian and Greek legends and stories, the polytheism etc (and not only present in Indian and ancient Greek cultures but also in ancient persian, latin, ancient slavic, ancient norse, ancient german and ancient baltic cultures) also doesn't mean that Europe is populated by Indians, but rather a common origin. We are not your descendants, also you are not our descendants, but we both are descendants of an older people group which broke into many parts.
Ancient European indigenous peoples (like etruscans, Iberians, Illyrians and etc) didn't come from India, but from Africa and the Middle East. Also we have some non-indo-european people groups here, like Finns, Estonians, Hungarians, Gagauzians, Turks, Tatars, etc but neither of these come from India, but from different parts of Siberia. So basically the only people group that are present in Europe and are direct descendants of Indian people groups are the Roma.

Greeks with Alexander the great gave it the name of "India", the land on the banks of River Indus, not Bharat or Hindusan, some 23 centuries ago and remained in tact for next 10 centuries.
Greeks never went to Bharat or Hindustan, at all!
Things started changing after the conquest of Arabs in the 8th century.
They went upto Multan only. Otherwise whole of Punjab and Kashmir were parts of Greater Sindh!! Punjabi or Kashmiri languages are nothing but varients/dilects of the vast Sindhi Language!
This provided opportunity to the horse mounted Central Asian savages for the attacks and occupation, starting from Mahmood of Gazni of Afghanistan in 11th. century.
