I let Sam Chui pick where he wanted to go fly and he chose Catalina Island which is a small runway with cliffs on both ends. Sam is considering pursuing his dream of being a pilot and this is the start of his journey. His excitement even through me off during my radio calls 🤣

@@swazoz7539 I'm not sure about this plane, but both headsets on board can transmit and receive from tower. At least thats the case for my C-172.
@@marryson123 your probably right, but as you could see in the video you had to hold down a button when talking and im not sure if holding it down will transmit both headsets?

Even if both headsets didn't transmit a shouted "woo hoo" would be heard on the radio via Kelsey's mic.

(kidding aside, I don't even notice whether you blink or not. Besides, you already explained how you edit, taking clips where you're focused on something and thus not blinking. I prefer that info-dense style; and your edits aren't too frequent - I appreciate the effort you must put into keeping your explanations tight, not just rambling about something in a longer video with less planning and editing.)
I want to say thank you for keeping the inspiration of flying in me. I had a bad instructor years ago who caused me to give up on my dream. Your videos have inspired me to continue my ratings again. My dream was to be a 747 pilot and that is far out reach due to my age, but I hope that younger pilots are inspired by you. Thank you for your passion and sharing your love of it.
Hope your dream comes true. No matter how old, you become a pilot and don’t let that flight instructor get in your way. 747s are awesome and I’m sure one day you will be able to fly in one :)

Catalina is one of my favorite spots. I was lucky to go diving there a few times. It's great to see it from low levels. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it.

I loved this. I am a nervous flyer but it has not stopped me from flying because if I wish to see the world I have to do it. I am fascinated by planes and have reached a point in my life where I would love to take lessons but it costs so much, watching the tutorials and these videos is the next best thing...thank you. x

I wonder if it feels weird flying a little plane after flying the 747. I used to drive long haul trucks, and I remember going out for a month at a time. When I got back to home base, I remember getting into my little 2 door hatchback work car and I couldn't hardly drive the goofy thing.

Man this is me and my travel buddy who drives a Tesla. She has to put it in fully manual operations for me, because I fight the self drive (I respond faster, believe it or not; it shocked me too) but when we go somewhere and drive a rental, she depends on me to actually drive because she just cant anymore. Well... He didn't try to land at 160 to 170 MPH, at least (which would be greater than the "never exceed" speed of that aircraft if it's a Sling 2 or 4, but still).

All aviation transmissions like NOTAMs, MET, Flight Plans etc is upper case as that's the lowest common denominator I/O device internationally.

Sam seems like an awesome person and I admire his aviation enthusiasm. I have to say, in this video, in the cockpit, he doesn't seem focused enough on the aviation part of flying. I think it's dangerous to mix sight seeing with piloting in those situations. On departure there was radio calls that had to be made, on approach there was a bird etc.. a nice view and people waving shouldn't be the focus. At least not at those points in flight.
Agree with this; Kelsey was telling him about landing, and Sam's all like "Hey they're waving at us!". Nope nope nope.
Flying to America for the first time more than thirty years ago, from Sydney, 10-12 hours across the mighty Pacific and the first bit of America I see is Catalina island. Good memories. Well done Sam, another step closer to flying a big bird.

Hi Kelsey, Love your vids and your adventures. I'm just a low time PPL and I flew C172 in Malaysia. I flew once off San Carlos thinking I can do the Golden Gate but the timing was grossly off so I just consoled myself with circuits and Touch n Goes. Still it's a great video with Sam and I wish you all the best! Cheers from Malaysia!

@@aqimjulayhi8798 Hi, You can do it at any registered flying club. I did mine at Air Adventure Flying Club. I reckoned I spent 60k+ but that was around 2013-2015. Now I think its at least 80k. Flying costs have increased 75% since then, no thanks to the weak ringgit.
Great video!! As a private pilot who flies in and out of uncontrolled fields one of the most annoying things to hear people say is, “any traffic in the area please advise.” It just blocks up the frequency. Right in the AIM it specifically advises against people saying that. A lot of us uncontrolled field pilots get pretty annoyed when we hear people say that.

@@ericjbowman1708 In uncontrolled (or pilot controlled) airports the rule is "see and be seen". The pilot is responsible for looking out and watch for traffic.
1. In most (if not all) uncontrolled airports you can fly in even without a radio. Those guys will never hear the "please advise" and have no means of advising anyway.
2. If there are several radio equipped planes in the area, what should they do? Key in the mic all at the same time and make a horrible noise on the frequency? Spend minutes to try to make positional reports one after the other, clogging up the frequency and block someone who would have something important to say?
Usually "any traffic in the area please advise" is simply ignored, what used up 2-3 seconds on the frequency for nothing.

Mountain Mike hmmm can’t trust other pilots at uncontrolled fields. Adding please advise will give additional incentive for planes in the pattern to look up. Extra safety at uncontrolled fields is never something that you should “cyber bully” someone over. I’ve seen way too many videos of planes hitting each other in the pattern at these fields etc. dangerous places

@@ericgu9036 start saving up small change and loose single dollar bills here n there in a jar...try seeing if you can get a part time job at a small airfield and make friends with a few pilots and even explaining what it is that you are trying to do. Someone might be able to help you out
Just take the loan out and do it all at once. If you pay as you go it will take forever and you may end up giving up. Took me 15 years of starting and stopping to finally get my PPL ASEL...Learn from my mistakes!

I just saw a TH-cam video about a 19 year old college girl who is a UH-60 Blackhawk firefighter pilot...no doubt she used her dad's family business to her advantage...most people must join the military to get that kind of advanced training. A Cessna is a great place to start!

I enjoy both yours and Sam's regular channels. I'm fascinated (concerned?) by the difference in your piloting styles, especially given the difference in experience. Sam seems to be very relaxed and in sight-seeing mode even while taking off and landing the plane, even though he is still learning the basics. You seem to be paying a lot of attention to details and precision, and perhaps even a bit nervous. For example, you notice the bird on final approach, Sam notices the crowd waving. You notice the other traffic while Sam seems a little...oblivious to it. Probably his lack of experience flying a plane and his joy of flying as a passenger contributing to his care-free attitude, and your extensive piloting experience contributing to your nervousness handing over the controls to a novice trying to taking off over a cliff with the brakes still partially applied. Entertaining for sure, and glad it all turned out fine. I hope Sam adopts some of your awareness as he gains experience.
I think it's the difference in the kind of flying they do usually. Kelsey is used to be responsible for much more expensive planes, having cargo, passengers and timetables while Sam doesn't have that kind of responsibility. Kelsey seems to strive for excellence even off the clock to perfect his skills.
@@eaaeeeea I think like most all machines it's the difference in size. Especially weight. These light scooters is all Sam knows while Kelsey is use to a Gullwing.
