I had that tent when i was a lad. You need the plastic caps for the poles, as you rightly suspected. Also, mine came with guy lines that simply looped over the metal spikes at the top of the poles. With those guy lines, the thing would pitch pretty well without the ridge pole which saved a lot of weight although the ridge pole is definitely needed for storms!
Got you from your Facebook post brother. I follow blot outdoors and your channel is good man. Being a fellow scotsman i like the bottle of tonic. Im from South Lanarkshire and going to start getting back outdoors in my berghaus cairngorm 2 next week. So any suggestions of good sites from yourself or any of your followers are more than welcome.
Welcome to the channel pal , yeah Chris from blot outdoors seems a good lad .Get yourself back out camping , cairngorm 2 us a decent tent . If your looking for places to go , just check out my other videos , I don't usually hide where I go and if I do it's for a reason , so the places don't get trashed . Get yourself down the Galloway Forest head into the woods find a spot and set up . Most times I go out , I just drive to a certain area , stop the car somewhere , go for a walk and find somewhere to put my tent up .
@OUTDOORALLY ideal brother, thank you. Got the cairngorm 2 on marketplace for 50 notes. I usually use my coleman avior 3. I was going to head to dungavel forest. Its only 5 mins drive up the road from me. This is my first camp of the year so I was gonna be soft and make it an easy one. I'm 100% going to take your advice and try that area next time. Anyways I'm now hooked on a new camping channel. Even better its a Scots lad that drinks the ultra tonic. Great vids mate 👍
@OUTDOORALLY please, for a bit of banter. Not to copy blot but it would be hilarious if you done a tonic review based on the bottle number. Now you and I know it makes no difference but I thought about doing it for banter for ages. Be a funny addition to the channel. Dungavel is a thick pine forest. Actually quite a creepy place, allegedly haunted but nice. I think I'm going to patch dungavel and head to galloway forest Park. I've taken the kids to camp at culzean castle a few times. Stunning area.
@clattypat that's a brilliant idea mate , definitely doing it on my next camp 👍and yeah Galloway Forest is huge , if you want an easy camp just go to loch doon
My Grandfather bought us a tent like your classic there in about 1980, in my memory it was pretty much identical, thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I'm sick of it mate , so hard to get motivated to go camping in the pissing rain , knowing the fire will be a struggle , tarps need to go up, and having to dry all your gear afterwards . Bring on the sun even if it's a midge fest 😁 thanks for watching pal , hope all's well with you 👍🏕
Nice one mate... i've still only been out the once for a wild camp this year. Been out for quite a few day hikes and bushcraft adventures though. Gotta love the UK weather this year... it's been a wet windy pish hole for sure. 🙂
Hi Ally Nice spot in the forest. Enjoyed that. Good job you had tape. Suprised the new one leaked. I was hoping the 40 year old tent would have held up. Love to see you fix it and give it another go. Having been kept that long be great to see it have one go this year and stand up strong.💪 Nice you had your boy out with you. Fire pit was really cool. Watched every minute. Great job.👍👋
Hi Jamie ,always have duct tape , so handy for everything when out, yeah not giving up on it yet , going to buy some cowls for the top spike parts of the poles and maybe reproof it , will definately see this old boy out again in the summer . As for the other tent , I'm gonna have to investigate . Thanks for watching the full video , it helps get my watch hours up , so I can get monetised , so thanks 👍🏕
@OUTDOORALLY Nice. Hope you get a few quid soon. I'm starting to pick up a few subs. In about 10 months if I get there I'll ask you how it works. I have no idea. I've heard 1k subs needed and so many views. I'd be happy in the future covering my petrol and things like that. It's all obviously a cost. You'll keep picking up nicely I'm still a baby with all this. I'm slowly learning though. I need to buy a better phone soon and mic. Just ordered a gimbal, only a second hand one off vinted. Dji one. It's old model but good. My boy had the same one. I enjoy your vids. I did Ben Nevis in Oct. It was one of my first vids. I walked up there about 7am after many beers with my cousin and then a bottle of port.🤦🏻 I tried to knock myself out because I'm rubbish sleeping in van. It worked well but the first 40 mins walking up the mountain was quite hard😁 I've got a decent engine so I knew the booze would sweat out soon. I carry and drink loads of water with me. I love Scotland. Just a bummer it's 9-10 hour drive. Keep having fun.👌👋
@JamieHarding5 1k subs and 4000 watch hours , youtube is a constant learning process , it's all about constantly tweaking things , wether that's in the editing , the equipment or trying to get the videos noticed . Most important thing is getting out and doing the thing you love , youtube is secondary . You should come on to my friday night livestreams and I'll give your channel a shout out 👍🏕
That looked like a nice spot Ally. I'm disappointed in this video for two reasons: 1) that you didn't sleep in the Combat 1. 2) You stole your laddie's shoes! 🤣🤣🤣 Only kidding, looked like you had an interesting time. Keep them coming!
I'm disappointed I didn't get to sleep in it also , and as for the laddie , he's got to learn , if he was on a solo he'd have wet feet for the journey home, he had aqua shoes so it's not like I made him walk out barefoot 😁 thanks for watching 👍🏕
i remember camping with one of those old tents it was horrible especialy when you kicked accidently the tentpole in the middle down at nigh in the rain
Absolute legend...With man flu you should be in hospital, but naw, your oot camping in a vintage tent. Got the same firepit mate, its like crypton factor setting that thing up. Cracking timing with the heavy rain. Brill mate
@@OUTDOORALLY yea it was my first tent ,, my folks bought it for me when I was a scout , then ended up using it when I had a go at the duke of Edinburgh award scheme .

Yaaasss! another shitty night on 2 shitty tents that didn't perform! That's what you call a camp! @@OUTDOORALLY ok thanks for sub to be honest i’m not a tarp person i have one but haven’t used it i got a wild country tent and my videos won’t be as good as yours but i try so where do you mainly camp🤟🤟

I had a Millets one exactly the same. Took it on the WHW. Served its purpose
Surprisingly sturdy , gonna buy some cowls for the pole ends and re proof this one

I leave my pot noodle for about fifteen minutes. Here's a tip. I wrap a coat or something else around it to insulate it. Cooks quicker 😋.

just bought a combat 1 for a couple of pound in a charity shop. i'll maybe hold off testing it til next summer!

Where the tent poles come through the Fly there should be a rubber seal that fits tightly to the spike that seals the tent against rain...
Not on this one 😔
Great video, absolutely love the vintage tent. Shame it wasn't weather proof though
Gonna see what I can do with it to make it weather worthy , so I can sleep in it at least once . Thanks for watching 👍🏕
Fantastic Ally stick some seam sealer on the tent
Yeah gonna try that , as I love that tent 👍🏕
