  • I didn't even bother to try to explore the positives of this laptop, as the negatived that I quickly discovered, make it practically unusable, so why waste my time.

    Thanks for the very honest review and sharing your experience....at least something different from the bombardment of the positive only aspects.

      Thank you, for the feedback. Yeah, I was so disappointed. It looked like a perfect laptop for me, and this is why I made this video. People need to know the truth. To be fair, it looks like Best Buy is selling them again, and from some articles I've learned that the reason for a recall was a screen adhesive on some OLED screens, so I'm glad they fixed it, but it also likely means the issues I experienced are not considered to be issues by Dell, and likely still present.

    I returned mine within 24hrs of getting it. The hinge was making creaking noise but only when you open the lid all the way and then begin to close it. The haptic trackpad would vibrate twice on some occasions when only clicking once (this would feel like a double click even though it was a single click). I only liked it because Dell offers a 2TB option. If so many people experience problems within the return window that's at least lucky. Imagine getting this and all seems good and later on have to deal with warranty or out of warranty. Either way not fun experience.
    As much as I really wanted a 13" with 2TB, it might be smarter to look at getting the Lenovo ThinkPad Z13... Both laptops have a haptic trackpad and glass palm deck so worth a try. Both are also easy to open the bottom cover as well. Let me know what you think of the ThinkPad Z13 if you decide to give it a go.

      I have to be honest. I don't think I'll be trying a Lenovo anytime soon. I ended up trying a Macbook Pro 14, and I really like it. The MacOS takes some getting used to, I'm still working on that, but I also got Windows 11 running on it just in case I need it for something.

      @@spacemsh If I had to be honest... I used to be a Mac user. Never had an issue with Mac but had major issue with bluetooth unavailable issue happening only on iPhone. After a year of suffering with the issue it was determined an Apple ID issue. Apple engineers could never figure it out considering making an entire new apple ID did not fix the bluetooth unavailable. After that I said no more Apple & no more relationship with Apple in general. The only Apple product I own is a pair of wired earphones and an adapter for USB-C. I will never go back to Apple after what I experienced first hand. The experience created a lot of hostility toward the brand because after a year of that experience and still no fix after making new apple ID account and trying new blank iPhones from the store resulted in same issue instantly after signing in. Bluetooth Unavailable not only removed my bluetooth but it also caused the phone to be laggy and glitchy. Near to impossible to use. You would suffer to even get through the lock screen and click an app. Barely could scroll through news articles. This all would happen on multiple brand new iPhones just by signing into an Apple ID associated to my name. Apple engineers were even more confused after making new Apple ID with a different email it was still happening. The only thing connecting both accounts was name and phone number. I would sign in using fresh clean OS. No backups or anything else was on the phone while attempting to sign in. The issue was never fixed nor could Apple explain anything to me. I put all of that behind me in 2020. Its only been 2 years but feels like 10! If wondering, I deleted both Apple ID accounts. Apple engineers never fixed the problem.
      Some people can't use Mac. I'm one for good reason that will never go back to MacOS or any Apple product.
      I will be very happy with the new ThinkPad Z13 Gen1!
      If your an Apple user yourself, I wish what happened to me doesn't happen to you. I put the Apple grudge behind me; however I will never do business with them ever again. Just few months ago a Samsung S22+ and S21 FE 5G started heating up on me and almost gave me a scare. Whatever it was gave me a scare but nothing like what happened with iPhone. To be safe I'm changing to the Google Pixel next. Its good not to be stuck with one brand. I have backup options being an Android & PC user.
      At the end of the day we choose the brands we use based on personal experiences. However, at least hardware issues can be fixed or replaced. If its software based issue and does not get fixed that is the worst nightmare you can imagine. I would never change ecosystems over a hardware related issue at least after experiencing what I did. I try to be thankful whenever the actual software is running smoothly.

    Thanks for the review. I almost got PTSD watching it. Basically, I ordered the 9310 ages ago, right when the announcement was made at CES. So I cancelled the order and waited about 6 months for the 9320 to come out. Then the extra delivery lead time. Set it up, and got the whole shebang. Thermal issues, fan noise, coal whine, throttling. I have never been so close to getting a MacBook… which I don’t really want but they seem to be the only ones who know what the hell they are doing

    • @lucasfitingof

      MacBooks have their own fair share of problems. At least with the XPS 13 Plus problems seem to occur within the return window which is actually nice rather then happening a year later; good for consumer not good for Dell lol. The nice thing about PC laptops so many different brands available to choose from. With Mac your just stuck with one company. To stay neutral on that topic it just depends on what ecosystem you belong too. 🙂

      @@spacemsh Thank you so much for sharing your experience of the MBP14. It confirms everything that I have read or heard about it so far. I used to own a personal MBP15 (2015 edition), which, as @Lucas Fitingof pointed out earlier, caused me some headaches further down the line, but this new MBP14, the sweet spot 14 inches, and fact that there are less issues with fan noise and thermal management, I am just about to go for it. I’ll give the Carbon X1 gen 10 a try, but the reviews are really mixed at this point

      @@lucasfitingof spot on when it comes to the return window. It took about an hour to make up my mind to be honest. The fan noise and heat drove me nuts, and that’s before installing anything (I am an Adobe Creative Suite user). The MBP14 just gives me hope as I am really tired of looking for a decent machine

      I am still afraid of that high pitched noise, it’s drilling into my ears right now watching this video. Had to use subtitles and turn off the sound. Feel like it’s damaged my hearing and that’s not good at all.

    • @spacemsh
      @spacemsh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tech_realm I felt real, physical pain from it. I hate to say it, but after this experience, I tried a couple of Macs, mainly because they're known for their silent operation and good performance. I tried a M2 Macbook Air first, and that one doesn't even have a fan, and still stayed cool. I actually liked it, but wanted a bit more power, so I switched to a Macbook Pro 14, which is cheaper by $600 vs the XPS Plus I tried, right now and you know what... And I'm loving it. I will be making a video on that soon. It's a real new experience for me, as a lifelong PC user.

      I think the fact that Dell is recalling them kind of speaks for itself. They're a hit or miss. Some are probably fine, and some units are completely busted right out of the box. Can happen with any product, but it seems like it happens a bit too much with these.

    • @elzodvsa6236

      Consider yourself lucky. Had the same issues, not to mention the heat on the keyboard. Someone suggested to wipe it clean and reinstall windows (maybe in order to get rid of Dell’s bloatware). But yeah, utter disaster. Check Just Josh’s review on TH-cam, this laptop is a fail of epic proportions

      @@elzodvsa6236 Yes, saw the video from Josh. If it was just throttling, I would try a clean install, but for me, the sounds it made, they literally physically hurt my ears, I'm not kidding. The quickest decision to return a product in my life.

      @@IAmJe Maybe just for Best Buy, they're kind of famous for having products made specifically for them, so it's even possible that lower quality parts were used (for higher profit margins), vs the ones you get directly from Dell. I just checked, and the XPS 13 Plus is still not listed on their website.

  • @tech_realm

    I had this same high pitched noise with my unit. “Had” because I already returned it too. It seriously hurt my ears, maybe even causing some amount of damage at this point. Watching your video with the volume on was unbearable and I had to use the subtitles or else I feared I was going to potentially damage my hearing even further. It is that bad. On top of these issues, my unit had a dead pixel and the display had a gap between the display cover chassis and the actual panel. Moreover, it got so hot once that I smelled something perhaps burning. My trackpad would also randomly click by itself and I had speaker crackling issues. Also got the 0.4GHz throttling problem even after the same exact UFD reinstall Just Josh did (though his issue was slightly different). There were graphics driver issues with my device as well, the display glitching out when opening a world in Minecraft. I am going to get the MacBook Air M2 instead of this XPS 13 Plus. Dell will never have me as their customer ever again, any time soon.

    • @spacemsh
      @spacemsh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheeze man, yeah... the sound was unbearable and like I said, I've never had a device I instantly knew I had to just return. I can't believe how bad they came out.

    The Dell xps 13 plus is such a terrible laptop! The constant overheating issues will slow down the computer, Fans will run non-stop like a jet engine, Part of the haptic trackpad will stop working, Battery life is 2-5 hours depending on usage! I highly do not recommend this xps 13 plus model. The regular xps 13 is so much better! The Lenovo yoga 9i & 7i is so much better than the xps 13 plus by a lot!

    My trackpad started malfunctioning right out of the box. Randomly clicks without being pressed. Dell sent out a replacement and the screen has a white patch on the screen. So two laptops from Dell - both faulty. Now trying to get a refund which is proving difficult as I'm directed to different departments each time I call Dell. Going to get the Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 instead.

    • @spacemsh

      So some people didn't believe me when I stated Dell was recalling, at least some, units. Today I read an article at Verge talking about the recall of them, and apparently, it's related to an OLED screen adhesive, but the Verge also mentioned their screen just died on them. These are very problematic, and it's such a shame, they look so nice. I'm not trying to push anything here, but I decided to try a MacBook Pro 14, and my God, I've never had a laptop this good from the PC side. Yes, MacOS is clunky, and I definitely prefer Windows, but I'm getting used to it. The hardware is so good, plus Best Buy sells them for $1599 right now... it's hard to beat, if you're in the US.

    Dell is known for quality control issues with XPS. Return and get your money back as soon as you can. For $2100, you can buy a M2 MacBook Pro 14.

      It's funny you said that. This Dell was my final straw, and I actually ended up getting MacBook Pro 14, but the M1 model, after it. And I'm still with it. It was before the M2 came out, but it was also $1600 new.

      A lifelong Windows guy here, you know the type, someone who always made fun of Macs as silly toy computers... but after this Dell thing, I decided to try a MacBook Air M2 and I have to admit, I was so impressed, I ended up replacing it with a MacBook Pro 14, and so far, I feel joy everytime I use it. Its really refreshing to have a computer that doesnt seem to have any flaws or compromises. Yeah, MacOS takes some getting used to, but it's fine, and the hardware is just, damn, I can't think of anything on the PC side that can compete with it as a whole package.

      @@spacemsh same story here. I was a lifelong windows (and android) user. Always made fun of Apple. Then early 2021 I got fed up with my $2,000 Dell 9310, sold it, bought an M1 Air and was absolutely amazed at the difference in performance. I sold all my custom built windows pcs and now am totally into the Apple ecosystem. Never say never, right? But I’m saying it now…I’ll never go back to windows and android

      @@ChrisMitchells_FlyingCameras Well, I still love my custom-built desktop Windows 11 set up, it's my command center, and I'm still rather on the Android side of mobile things, but I do have an iPhone 11 as my work phone, and it's fine. At the end of the day... great tech is great tech, and I don't care who makes it. Currently, I'm convinced Apple makes the best laptops, but I'm not ready to say the same about their phones, tablets or desktops. It's cool to have so many options, and I love mixing them up.
