Funny info: The 1v1 with the dwarf priest at the start was at the ending of wow beta, and both players had a claim on the name Drakedog, so they decided the winner of the duel can use it on vanilla release.
Crazy that in 2 and 1/2 years this video will be 20 years old.

5 years later, even after I stopped wow 20 months ago I still come here sometimes to reminisce on the great days of WoW.
At the very start of the video Drakedog already showed how high level he was. He had his felhunter on stay away from the priest so that if the priest used fear the felhunter wouldn't get feared.

Irithus No the class in general. He was the first Warlock movie maker on Warcraftmovies, popularized the class and invented the Succubes CC method. He singlehandedly transformed the Warlock class, just like how Vurtne did with Mages.

Balance in vanilla (by Mute): Rogues are scissors. Warriors are rocks. Hunters, priests, mages, druids, shamans and paladins are paper. Warlocks are mushrooms. scissors beat paper, and scissors also happen to beat rock. When rock hits level 60 and becomes an untoppable killing machine, it also beats paper, and would beat scissors. But rock can't see scissors, because scissors is invisible. And that is called BALANCE.

back then everyone was still learning the game. As surprising as it may be, lining up damage with CC chains was considered top skill. No one was telling other people how to play or spec. Now if I wanna learn how to play any class I just study a few videos off WCM and armory the highest rated player and I've got 9 years worth of gameplay knowledge on my back instantly.
You would still have to be able to play it well, though. Having the knowledge to actually carrying it out are 2 different things 😅

Back when the game was simple and everyone played for FUN instead of min/maxing every possible thing. Those that did were a rarity.. instead of being the opposite now.
RIP that era of gaming. Modern MMOs just suck ass because of the mentality of 'gamers' nowadays. Even WoW classic is NOTHING like how vanilla used to be despite being the same overall game.

Good old days^^, Amplify curse doing 50% moore curse dmg or something, shadowburn was useable on anny %hp that your target had and when you stacked upp your soulshards like hell^^. spell stones, melee dmg as caster cannabalize in combat whilst taking dmg , travel bags where quite expensive and gold where actually time consuming to get.

I love DD's vids but this is his first one and its a bit rough. You can tell clearly how much his skill improved as the vids progressed. For example, he's killing lvl 57's in this one. Still entertaining though.
If a target didnt have a lot of shadow resist curse of shadows actually put ppl at negative resistance giving them a chance to take double dmg. So shadow bolt seduce shadow bolt seduce would kill ppl in 2 shadow bolts + shadow burn if they crit. I guess after this was changed in a later patch drakedog said its time to go destro instead of sm/ruin.

Incorrect. Vurtne for an example owns 3v1 and AQ40+ geared with blue gear/with no gear at all. Every class, including his own. If u were skilled and put a lot of effort to ur character u had much bigger advantage then u have nowadays with same effort. Back then there was plenty of weird items that most of the ppl didn't even know, like spell reflect trinkets, mind control helmet. Skull of Impending Doom, invulnerable potions etc...

I totally agree with the only way to improve is to play against better players. That being said, arena score is no way to prove that you are a "better" player. Certain class compositions, no matter the strategy are basically free wins up until the 2000 brackets. Frost mages are a good example of this, massive control, massive damage, and the ability to refresh all defensive cooldowns easily. Now are all frost mages good, no, but at the same time many bad ones are highly rated.

@TriggerSpar the number of players that want vanilla servers is actually very low compared to the number of people playing at current patch. That and its a huge expense to setup and maintain. And then ontop of that, people would still expect fixes and balance patches for the vanilla server, so they would need to hire a whole new team....the list goes on and on.

a lot of pvp honestly is just numbers and whoever strikes first. I guess a real fight is kind of the same thing. First strike is huge a lot of times the other guy doesnt ever get a chance

@RewindMJ i remember when this video came out..lock was one of the worst classes to play in solo and they were pretty much 100% useless. Then Drakedog released his first video and it was like 'hey, FUCK YOU game balance: i'm gonna kick other players asses anyway' . I respected him so muc..Drakedog, Hector, Happyminti..great times
