  • We managed to get all the parts we need and can now proceed with the rebuilding of the front axle. In this part 1 we reassemble the main carriage frame, the main axle beam with the Bush (#A63840) and Axle pin (#A67677). See if you can spot the obvious error (which we correct in Part 2!)
    Thank you to our tireless sponsors www.anglo-agriparts.com - visit them for all your tractor parts, old and new tractors!
    In this video we used Anglo Agriparts items:
    Axle Pivot Pin Bush (Axle Beam) A63840
    Axle Pin A67677
    Hope you enjoy this video, leave a comment and a like if you do! 😉

    Hello Gordon. Two other people with a keen eye have already mentioned the axle beam is upside down, so I should keep that comment to myself. Apparently the factory installed the pivot pin with graphite grease due to lack of a grease point. That or a similar product should help keep any dirt and moisture from attacking the bushing and prevent corrosion. Not too many people would get around to pulling the axle pin on an annual basis to clean and lubricate the pin/bushing. I will very likely install a grease fitting when I perform that task on my TE20 project. TTFN/CDC

      Hi Charles, yes indeed, the lack of a grease point is a flaw, but I think it will be an interesting experiment; to see how long I can keep it free and clean and how much of an effort it will be. 😉👍

    Gorden, hope all is well with you and the family. How is the move coming along? Looking forward to seeing more of your content; when able. I continually am watching yours, and Lance's Bundy Bear's Shed, TE20 content...even though I have passed the points in my own TO30 restoration project. After re-watching this video, I would like to pass along the the parts manual references 2 axle bushings. I put two; one bush in the axle, and the other in the back of the axle housing. This supports the rear of the axle pin and puts everything on a solid axis. I would be interested in your thoughts. Have a great day and both you and Lance ROCK!! Without you guys on TH-cam...these old beauties would be gone forever.

      Hi Marvin, thank you for your kind words. The move is underway although sadly it is spread over 2 weeks. Nevertheless once we are in we can focus on getting settled and setup again.
      I’ve not come across this before but it sounds like a really good idea! Perhaps something I will take a closer look at once we get back to it. Did you have to machine out the rear frame to accommodate the bush? I can’t remember if there is much clearance in that part of the frame.
      If you happen to have any photos please email me - waterhouseforde ‘at’ gmail ‘dot’ com
      Good luck with your project, maybe one day we’ll catch up to you😉👍

      I did not have to adjust anything in the rear housing opening. Actually, when I disassembled my TO30 front axle, there was the remanence of an old bushing in both the housing and the axle. Prior to getting to this process, I ordered parts based off of the parts manual amount needed. My axle pin was also warn like yours was, but, the opening was not deformed...most likely because it did have a bush in it. The new one just pressed right in. Also, I would like to caution folk when buying a new axle pin to ensure they are getting the right length pin. I saw many out there for sale that said they were for a TO30 but were the shorter version.

    Hi there! I have followed your project since i found your videos of working on the rear axel since at the time I was myself restoring a Fordson major. I really can see the similarities of the progress on our restorations. Earlier this september i got to start my Fordson major after the restoration, first time in over 20 years. I was really proud and can’t wait to see you start your tractor for the first time. I have a question however if you will show any of the painting or if you doing that offscreen. And if you are not showing it how are you doing it, just with at paintbrush or are you spraypainting?
    Thank you for continuing sharing your progress!

    • @WaterhouseForde

      Hi Simon, thank you for your comment. It is so good to hear from our viewers especially to hear about their projects. Well done on getting yours running. I am eager to get ours running too and after sorting out the steering we will focus on getting the engine completed and fired up. Ref. Painting until now we’ve only applied primer. Once the restoration is completed I intend to spray the whole tractor. For the primer I am just using aerosols, but will use a spray gun when we do the top coats. I am not an accomplished spray painter and very amateur when it comes to body work in general so I’m not sure how it will turn out 😂. Hope that helps. Are painting your Fordson?

    • @simonhansson4822
      @simonhansson4822 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I painted my tractor with a spraygun both primer and top coat , i belive that i turned out really good and it was my first time using a paint gun so i belive that you can get a good result aswell. Altough it was very nervous when I only had the body panels left to paint since I didnt want to get any paint runs. Luckily it ended well with no paint runs😅
      But if you start on the least visibel parts i belive that you will get the hang of it really fast and get a good end result!😁

    • @WaterhouseForde
      @WaterhouseForde  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ye we’ll give it a go. My tractor is covered in pitting I’m guessing it’s spent at least part of its life on the coast. I’m still unsure how best to deal with that, or if I just paint it as is. It is after all part of its history. Most probably I will try to use filler on the tin work to try to smooth that out a bit. 👍😉
