      Cool of you to say Ryan. Thanks for the thumbs up! Hopefully you'll like my next upload as well. Please, spread the word - maybe I can reach that magic number of subs (not likely :-) ! Cheers :D

      I am follower of John Petrucci's "soccer dash" technique. His instructional video (now old school - but golden information) is somewhere on this platform. It's worth it.

    Hi Leon,
    Thanks for the support man!
    These are actually stock pickups, though now I have had them replaced with DiMarzio D-activators - quieter and better pinch harmonics!

  • @boyanboguitar
    @boyanboguitar  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you very much Ernie! I love the chorus too, something for all of us to sing along to, right :)

  • @Boyanbo
    @Boyanbo 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey there. Thank you for the nice words. I appreciate it!
    At the time I recorded this the pickups were stock Ibanez Gax. Now, I've replaced them with Dimarzio D-Activators. The guitars sounds cleaner, with better harmonics. Does that help...?

  • @boyanboguitar

    Hi,
    I mute with both my right hand palm and left hand fingers while playing.
    I try to play with flatter fingers on the left hand (not the finger tips). With this technique you fret a note on say the 5th string and you mute the two adjacent strings as well. Your flat fingers should also be stopping noise from the thinner (treble strings).
    I use a different pick - it's called the Sik Pik, which has a twisted tip but I don't do anything special with my right - it's all in the left hand.

    Wade,
    The part-by-part breakdown of this song was never in the plans.
    I do custom guitar lessons, so it wouldn't be a problem to put one together for you for this song.
    Please look at the tab, and message me here of via FB telling me which parts you would like me to cover for you :)
    Cheers

    Thank you very much. Totally, KsE is one of my top bands in this genre as well.
    I'm sure you'll like the other vids then :D
    I use a Line 6 PodXT for all the tones. Standard heavy metal tone with a Tube Screamer added for picking definition. If you have a similar device I can send you the tone, if you'd like!

    Hi AdamBa17. You know, I had not noticed that before. Thank you for pointing it out! I would say "Yes, for two reasons: 1) I am sitting down and there's not much room to wiggle around; 2) Since this is a physically intense style to play I try to keep things relaxed."

    7 months later reply but do you have a continued version of break the silence somewhere????? I think its only showed the clean section and I was wondering if you had another video showing the rest of the riffs and parts?

    Playing that thing like you're tickling a butterfly. Give it some damn gusto, bro.

    • @Boyanbo
      @Boyanbo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha! Good point Matt and thank you for bringing up a great discussion.
      I've had this talk with many colleagues, including drummers who have it in their head that "hitting hard" is the only way to go. I'll put forward an explanation, however weak it may sounds:
      1) The signal is already super compressed that hitting the string harder doesn't get any extra rewards. It's a limited dynamic range and hitting the string harder just makes the LED on my noise gate turn.
      2) The bottom string is a 56 and hitting it harder will make it wobble and got out of tune, so doubled guitars will sound like mush. (Yes, you sort that with EQ and you run into part 1)...
      3) Bonus: There are a few ways to lean into the string. You can elevate your right arm and essentially swing down, but I find it's too big of a movement (unnecessary at that), what I do is the "turn the key" move, where I rotate my picking hard wrist left thereby striking the string down, not laterally like you would with the "swing" movement.

      @hooner52 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Boyanbo well Adam D has no problem playing it harder......I mean do I need to mention Hetfield and Hammett?

    • @Boyanbo
      @Boyanbo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hooner52 Oh, Adam is totally, the man, I agree. I also have to thank you on saying that it looks like I am "tickling a butterfly" as getting that tone and making it look like I'm barely playing has always been my goal. Plus, I don't play with a standard pick! :)
      Making a comparison between is interesting as I think they would all play this particular part differently. All these guys, however, have a completely different technique, style of playing, and a target sound they want to achieve, not to mention gear.

      @@mariogaeta8911 So, upon listening to it several days over the past day, I can tell you that my version here is ever so slightly different than the original. I recorded it as: Guitar 1 plays the standard power chords Guitar 2 goes up to play the inversions or the octaves over the 5th and 3rd strings that are part of the inversions. The original recording has an extra phrase that I am not playing here. But, as long as it's function and you can sing the song over it - it works!
