Boyan Bo practicing some licks off a Lick Library DVD exploring the style of Nuno Bettencourt. I've never been a huge fan of the band "Extreme", however, I've always liked Nuno's playing. He seems to rely on legato and odd note-group phrasing to get his soloing ideas across. Plus, some chordal tapping never hurts. I can tab some of those out, by request. Thank you. I love this track!
Another banger bro
Amazing you have good taste in music
Thank you. I suppose we share a similar taste :) This video was done a while back. Thanks for finding it and sending me a message 🙏

Wow very good bro
Thank you so much!
I wish you didn't skip parts
such as?
@@Boyanbo the whole song desperate times xD
@@Boyanbo they are good tutorials tho, I learned them in just a few minutes
@@hizzy70 I decided, not, to do that one on purpose :)
@@hizzy70 Glad you enjoyed them. 🤘
Hell yes been learning this song by ear a bit but this is a solid video just to be sure I’m doin it right haha thanks man!!
Thank you so much. I am glad it's bringing you good value. It's a fun one to play.
Thanks bro this was very helpful
Thanks very much. I hoped it would be helpful in learning and enjoying to play the song! Rock on!
Nothing of what you played in that beginning part of the tutorial was even close to sounding anything like kse or yet even a song of metal at all, kinda confused how to doing octaves sounds anything like the intro which is a bunch of hammer ons and pull offs.maybe I need to be on the same drugs as you and everyone else, all strings includes the F******G 6TH ONE!!! DUH!!!!
Tabs??
Sure thing. Under the video --> tinyurl.com/jvcenhw2 (I have not edited these)
@Boyan Guitar your the man!
@@austinyoung2723 Thank you. Have fun with the track \\mm//
Hey man, is this standard tuning?
Hiya! It's Drop C tuning.
Damn 10 year to late where have you been all my life my friend such a good cover and lesson amazing 👏
Thank you so much. Even a decade ago, it was an enjoyable experience. Glad that it's bringing you something interesting.
nice
Thank you. It is not "the" most popular song from the album, but I enjoy it very much.
I keep coming back to your vids of KSE stuff because of your tone. It's absolutely brutal. What was your gear setup back when did these KSE tutorials? They're heavy and phat as hell in the tone.
Thank you so much. The tone was squeezed out of a POD processor, which was nothing special on its own. The trick was in following the same technique / pattern as producer / engineer Andy Sneap had done on the record. Two double-tracked guitars - not hard panned both left and right but in a spectrum. This is very good example of how it is the recording and production of track are the real mystery behind the guitar sound. No, it's not possible to get that tone from 1 guitar alone. The recording was a long processed, indeed.
@@boyanboguitar I've heard that advice before from people like Steven Wilson, Vai, and others. They say that it's the ONLY way. The small imperfections between the double layers tracks is what gives it some much depth. No chorus of synthetic method will replicate it. I'm not a very good guitar player but I love hunting for that perfect tone that fits my taste and you've got a sick tone in this track. I'm hoping to emulate it. Hunting for tone is why I've started building guitars recently, trying my hand at being a luthier. What distortion did you use? And since I'm not very well educated in the art of shred yet - what's a POD Processor?
@@Nurhaal Fantastic. I love the artists you mentioned and a fan and student of their music. You are on a good track with understanding the recording process. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, so individually those guitar tracks don't sound great - but together they become "massive." I didn't use any additional distortion. All the effects came from the POD PRO X (Line 6 company) processor. It has built-in amplifier digital emulators. I set it to the Mesa Boogie setting (close enough) - it is a very "dry" signal - no delays, reverbs or choruses (as you pointed out). I find it works well for the recording. These devices are great for playing with tone - like the Kemper, the Helix (Line 6) again, and many others.
Awesome cover! But I came looking for a playthrough lesson.
Thank you for your comment. I only did a playthrough for Eye of the Storm from the same album. There is a lot of material to draw from each song, so I wanted to keep it short.
I know im late, but thanks this is great!
Never too late :) Thanks very much for checking it out.
Lol, I never thought shaggy would be doing guitar, let alone lessons
Zoinks!
Dude!!!! How did you downstroke the verse?! It’s so fast lolol
Thank you! In the right-hand corner, "little me" is doing UP DOWN DOWN" for an alternate technique. I get the tone by turning the amp to 11 and playing gently.
nice cover, terrible lesson you shoud do a complete lesson not this
That's very funny! The tab included in the description is still good. If you'd like me to teach you the entire song, we can work something out ;)
Nice cover… but why are teaching only the least exciting part? I was hoping for a full song lesson!!!
Appreciate the comment! At the time I felt that the last part gives me the opportunity to cover a lot of ground and to showcase the harmony behind the riff - so that people can build their own. Teaching the entire song would have taken another 30 minutes and if people just want to play the song without learning the techniques behind it, usually go to the tab and be done with it. I always want to dive deeper.
@@Boyanbo Thx for your response :) didn‘t expect one. Ok that‘s a plausible answer👍 I feel that! And don‘t get me wrong. It‘s an awesome cover. Really well played and you picked an awesome tone. It‘s a hard song but you play it effortless🤘
@@dgfeeder9801 Thanks, I appreciate it. I'll be doing a series of lessons this summer that will focus more on the Pentatonic from 0mph to 60mph.
That guitar is sick. I want that shit...
Appreciate it brother \\mm//
nice

I may try to learn this, looks fun.
Thanks for your comment. It's a good tune, with cool guitar parts. Enjoy! :)
this is the best tutorioal i've ever seen. also that other song you played of theirs is literally the next song after on the album, you're a god!
Thank you Seb. Best comment ever <3 <3 - It is a pretty nifty guitar part, isn't it?! It's a great tune with killer riffs, and yet somewhat overlooked.
Playing that thing like you're tickling a butterfly. Give it some damn gusto, bro.
Haha! Good point Matt and thank you for bringing up a great discussion. I've had this talk with many colleagues, including drummers who have it in their head that "hitting hard" is the only way to go. I'll put forward an explanation, however weak it may sounds: 1) The signal is already super compressed that hitting the string harder doesn't get any extra rewards. It's a limited dynamic range and hitting the string harder just makes the LED on my noise gate turn. 2) The bottom string is a 56 and hitting it harder will make it wobble and got out of tune, so doubled guitars will sound like mush. (Yes, you sort that with EQ and you run into part 1)... 3) Bonus: There are a few ways to lean into the string. You can elevate your right arm and essentially swing down, but I find it's too big of a movement (unnecessary at that), what I do is the "turn the key" move, where I rotate my picking hard wrist left thereby striking the string down, not laterally like you would with the "swing" movement.
@@Boyanbo well Adam D has no problem playing it harder......I mean do I need to mention Hetfield and Hammett?
@@hooner52 Oh, Adam is totally, the man, I agree. I also have to thank you on saying that it looks like I am "tickling a butterfly" as getting that tone and making it look like I'm barely playing has always been my goal. Plus, I don't play with a standard pick! :) Making a comparison between is interesting as I think they would all play this particular part differently. All these guys, however, have a completely different technique, style of playing, and a target sound they want to achieve, not to mention gear.
Your the man thanks
Not so bad yourself. Great tones on your channel!
I’m over here with my forearm and fingers about to seize up and this guys over here looking like he’s petting the guitar. Great cover man!
Thanks for the compliment! Much appreciated. That's one tricky and jumpy riff, so keeping your wrist loose helps a lot. Plus my pick (Sik Pik D35) makes things easier as well.
@@Boyanbo I will have to try that! Thank you for the response and the tips! Fantastic cover again!
@@kyleplayz834 Thanks very much! Have fun with it.
Please of theme fallible my curse Please
Hi there. Are you taking about a particular part of the song, please?
THIS IS SO FUCKING AWESOME , BUT THEIR ONE THAT STAND OUT IS YOUR PLAYING ON A $99 GUITAR BECAUSE I HAVE THE SAME ONE , BUT I PUT SOME EVO PICK UP ON MINES, DONT KNOW IF YOU DID THE SAME BUT YOU MADE THAT GUITAR SOUND LIKE A $1000 GUITAR , EPIC JOB MAN
Thank you so much. These are the stock Ibanez pickups. The guitar now has mid-level Dimarzios. It's amazing how a few magnets can improve the tone!
Maybe I need to rewatch the video, bit how do you play the riff starting at 1:51? That's the only reason I'm learning this song tbh haha. Thanks again for the lesson, your tone sounds spot on
I will re-link you to the tab, the existing link seems to be out. I had corrected and updated the tab on songsterr.com / It's a bit of a finger stretch ;)
@@Boyanbo thank you bud. I appreciate you
Thx for the lesson man hahaaha
You bet!
You played the whole song but only included a lesson for the boring clean part?? People wanna learn those riffs and leads!
I taught what I felt was the most interesting part, i.e. the harmony that makes the song work :)
I love this bro, the power slides you incorporated in there were fucking sick 🤘
Thanks Douglas! Oh man, I remember that this was the first video from the series of 10, and I was monitoring all the recording equipment at all times, which I hope explains that silly looks. Rock on!
@@Boyanbo yes a couple of silly looks, but I could feel when you were getting into it, and that's an awesome feeling when a song can produce an abundance of goosebumps haha

Thank you so much!
best cover i ever seen!
Thank you very much!
Covered everything except for the tapping during the 2nd half of the verse. The only part I don’t know. 😡
I am not sure that this tune has a tapping part. Let me know if we've missed something :)
You are very clean and did a great job. However my favorite part of the song you chose not to show how to play, which was the riff right after the last gallop you showed before going off on how to make riffs out of it. Why?
Hi Scott. Thank you. I see, you mean the little Iron Maiden flourish :) The reason is that I wanted to focus on the basics of rhythms playing for this song and extrapolating complex riffs from simple ideas. The bends themselves would open up too many topics - phrasing (the different ways you can play that bit) or guitar harmony (for which I would have to go in a theory direction. The video would have been over an hour if I had pursued all the topics so I chose to stick with this one. Some of the others songs explore different aspects of the KsE style and that was the purpose of covering and teaching 10 songs from the same album. I hope you find something useful in all of them. - B
@@Boyanbo Can you teach that piece?
@@TheHighsmith8 Of, course Scott. Do you have anything in mind when you ask that?
@@Boyanbo Yes can you do a video with the full riffs all the way through?
I apologize. I was short on time then.
Wtf are you teaching man . ...? Do you know why u got less subscribers and views ...cuz your lessons are always out of the song... what the fuck are you teaching...just teach the song...
can you help me out pls mate, I checked the tab link out, but the pre chorus is the same as I've ever played it, and you defo play a different way, can I be a pain and request a walk through of your version of the pre chorus mate?
Hey bud. Do you mean that clean-ish parts of the song or? Please give me time frame to look so that I know better which part you mean. \m/
@@Boyanbo Na the bit in between the verse and the chorus. "We will not die this way! This is absolution! Death claims us no more! No more!"
@@Boyanbo so 0:45 to 0:56, 1:36 to 1:37 and 2:51 to 3:02 lol
@@mariogaeta8911 So, upon listening to it several days over the past day, I can tell you that my version here is ever so slightly different than the original. I recorded it as: Guitar 1 plays the standard power chords Guitar 2 goes up to play the inversions or the octaves over the 5th and 3rd strings that are part of the inversions. The original recording has an extra phrase that I am not playing here. But, as long as it's function and you can sing the song over it - it works!
@@Boyanbo I'll make a video, show you how I play it. Just for comparisons sake. I have a channel, but my videos are no where as good as yours lol
Another song that I thought I knew perfectly, yet the pre chorus you play is nothing like what i play, but it's way better I think
I'm sure you've nailed it several times over.
while I agree with snapascrew about the strength of your picking and sometimes you palm mute very slightly too much, but that being, said, it's by far and away the best cover I've seen or heard, and I might finally learn the last 2 minutes of the song properly at last! thanks man do you do other lessons?
Thanks for tuning in Mario. Snapscrew, I think was expecting a different tone, however the tone I have is more attributed to the SikPik - it's the pick I use. I am not a fan of the scratchier noise that a Tortex gives you. You can find the entire Daylight Dies album on youtube page. I will be doing a series on the Pentatonic before the end of 2018 \m/
I LOVE THIS BECAUSE YOU ARE PLAYING ON A CHEAP ASS GUITAR $100 AND YOU MOD IT WITH SOME GOOD PICK UP AND IT SOUND BETTER THE SOME OF THEN GUITAR THAT COST $1000 PLUS MORE!!
That's absolutely why I did :)
I thought this was a riff lesson! Well played by the way
Hi Luis. Thanks for the positive comments. You are correct, this is more "how to write in the style of" rather than a straightforward "this is the riff" lesson. I have made only one of those for "Eye of the Storm" as Adam and Joel from KsE do an excellent job of showing their own playing. I try to go a step beyond that.
@@Boyanbo thanks for the response! Really like your tone and timing playing this amazing song! Keep it up!
