    My advent is just a beast!
    I set a 2x9 group (long cage) and never missed a shift on 3 months riding. No chain drops either. I love it. Way better than my deore m6000

      That’s legit! I definitely think it’s on par with sram GX. I like the feel of shimano shifting better but then you gotta consider the price difference 🤘

    Great vid! I am looking to upgrade my cassette to the Advent Microshift 11 x 46t 10 speed cassette. What derailleur model number did you use? Is it a medium cage or long cage? Also what size chain ring are you using?

    When the limit screws are adjusted properly, the chain will not drop off on either side even when the cable stretches and regardless of shifting technique.

      Yep - my issue was the lower limit screw had backed out slightly ... it’s been good to go since I got it dialed back in

    I just did a drop bar budget build with Advent 9-speed. I could not get a 10-speed shifter. Nonetheless, I like it.
    I typically ride nice stuff. Is Advent of similar quality to Ultegra or Force? Nope. But it’s just fine. It’s notchy, but solid. Once I got it tuned, Advent has NEVER missed a shift. Like you, it took me about 15 minutes to dial in.

    Just bought this set as well, and am really looking forward to installing it soon. Keeping a close eye on deals, there "was" a deal for the derailleur at $65, the alloy cassette at $60 (heh, took the last one off Amazon) and the shifter with the pad at $26 for a total of $151.....too bad I didn't see the better priced derailleur until after I paid full price elsewhere. But if anyone really wants to make this even more affordable, if you still find the derailleur at $65 and the shifter at $25ish, you could save money by going all steel cassette, where I did see on Amazon going as low as $35, which would make this really inexpensive for only $125. For now, I'm waiting for my new cransket to replace a rivetted altus.

      @@FoCoFlowShow Been using this AdventX setup for over a month now. Wow, what a great drivetrain! Easy to setup, have not had to readjust at all yet. Snappy shifting and it just feels solid on the trail. I like that it gives a solid sounding shift. My son's SLX is so quiet that I can hardly hear anything, where I've actually found I preferred hearing the shift on the Advent. ONLY issue or thing about this AdventX that makes me go...why? The paint on this derailleur REALLY attracts dirt! My son and I would ride on the same trail, my AdventX derailleur is coated in dirt. Where as his SLX has no dirt on it. Tempted to wax this derailleur to keep the dirt off! But that's the only negative I so far have on this Microshift system. Am very satisfied with this purchase!

    I installed an AdventX a few weeks ago, and so far it's great. My only complaint is that i wish they skipped 5t between cogs instead of 4t: 11-48t/400% to 11-56t/500%. I'd much rather have greater range than less range between gears. With 36t chainring, youll be able to climb any hill, but cant pedal down steep hills. I think 44t chainring with 11-56t cassette would've been much better. At least, for roads.

    • @FoCoFlowShow
      @FoCoFlowShow  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think a 56t would be overkill. I wouldn't mind a 50t big gear... anything more feels unnecessary

    • @chadkline4268
      @chadkline4268 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FoCoFlowShow well, with 29in wheels and the setup I described, there is no gearing for downhill runs. You just have to coast, which isn't a big drawback, but I'd like to test 11-56t with a bigger chainring to see what it would be like 😁

    Thanks for the shout out! For chain length, did you only add one inner/outer link? Microshift says to add two of each which is what I did. My chain does seem a little long though, barely any tension on it in the smallest gear.

    Thanks so much for you video!
    I have never installed a derailleur and have a silly question; at 3:25 you indicate cutting the cable when at the right length: how to determine when at the “right” length of cable? It seems like the correct cable length could be exacting and important for precise shifting.
    Thanks again for your helpful video!

    • @FoCoFlowShow
      @FoCoFlowShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once you feed the cable through the shifter and down through the derailleur you just pull it so that it is barely “tight” and clamp it down with the dereilleur pinch bolt - once it’s clamped - leave an inch or two and cut the cable behind the dereilleur

      By chainring, do you mean the front chain ring? If so, the front doesn’t matter at all. You’ll Want to make sure the rear free hub body (the sleeve the rear cassette sits on) is compatible. Unless you have a super old or super low end 8 speed cassette then all 8, 9, and 10 speed cassettes use the same rear freehub body - so you should be good to go either way
