Thanks! I appreciate it, I upgraded from a T495S to the X1 Extreme Gen 3, and I was NOT disappointed. With there was a way to keep the battery running longer though.

Personally, I'd sacrifice the 4k Touchscreen for a Non-Touch FHD just for the sake of better battery life. I currently have a 4k touch laptop and the shorter battery life ruins the purpose of a laptop since it needs to be plugged it in all the time.

I bought the non touch screen version and occasionally I really do wish I had the touch screen. I have a Lenovo flex before the x1 extreme and the convenience of the touch screen is really missed.

I've had this laptop for 3.5 years now. The model I have has the 4k screen and 4G. I have been fairly happy with it. My biggest trouble I have had with it is that it runs very hot, so I have it sitting on a laptop fan riser. Sometime I also have a pedestal fan blow on it to try and keep it cool. I had a hardware failure of a extra NVME SSD which I put down to it overheating. Finally, the down arrow key no longer works... just like on my previous lenovo laptop.

As for functionality I have found the Extreme 3rd generation to be excellent. I had fears about the fans coming on. They so very rarely come on, it's not even an issue. When they come on, it wasn't bothersome and they came on very briefly. I was skeptical about sound, but sound is very good. If I want even better sound, I'll go to my dedicated stereo system. I bought both the FHD and the 4K display but not OLED (don't care for glossy screen) for comparison. There's no comparison. I was worried about scaling issues with 4k when interfacing with various softwares. I had only one issue with with a screenwriting program, but a quick call to tech support at the software company resolved the issue. The fiber cover on the 4k makes the laptop look way more premium, making the FHD lid look inferior. Some people said the human eye would not be able to differentiate between 4k and FHD on a 15" screen, totally disagree. Things look more washed out on the FHD. It's a no brainer going for the 4k. Keyboard is superb. I worried about coming from an old Lenovo with great key travel, but the key travel here is excellent. The typing experience--dreamy. I have only one issue: the palm pad and the track pad are beyond skin oil magnets. I'm constantly cleaning off palm prints. I can usually clean off most of the palm prints on the palm pad. The palm prints on the track pad don't come off at all. I do have it on quiet mode and no issues at all with fan noise as mentioned previously, no issues with load. Overall pleased. Mind shock coming from a T500.

I'm really thinking about getting this laptop for college. I'm going to be studying a mechanical engineering, so aside of just productivity I think it has enough power to run simulations and other software. I also want to use it for Microsoft flight simulator 2020 and drl. Lenovo usually has 40-50 percent discounts so I think the max it would cost me in the lower 2,000 dollar area. Do you think that this laptop would serve me well for it's price or is there another one you would recommend?

For this price point that's expected.
When covering the performance for a device like this I was expecting to hear heavy-duty softwares that you might have used such as photoshop or autocad...something that hints at its capabilities.

  • @MA-by2sh

Ok, for the speakers, the lenovo's highs sounded very crisp, the voice stood out with a good mix of bass and treble, though I would say the bass is low. However, the dell sounded more like a studio-quality, but the highs were far away, the bass was awesome, more surround. The apple is very nice, but it's just the bass that's better on the apple, otherwise, the dell has a better mix. If you isolate these laptops, you probably won't even notice the difference as a casual user, given that you play around with the audio settings a little.

Good PC. Would be nice if keyboard had a full size ten key. For what one is paying for this it would be nice to have a 1080p camera. Still this camera is fair and will get the job done. Mic sounded okay. As far as the speaker sound goes it might not sound as good as the Dell you compared it to but if you listen to it on its own you would get used to the sound and the issue of quality will not be a problem for most people. Port selection much better than the Dell. Also like the proprietary connector. This allows the PC to use as much power as needed and not have to worry about power limitation of 100 watts thru a USB-C connector. Great review.
