Maybe this applies to successful people in tech more than others. I feel smarter now at 39 than I did at 20. Wondering if this is situational. I feel like I'm on the brink of changing the game in our society in the animal world. Love Justin though
I appreciate you taking time to talk about your experiences. I’m about to turn 30, thought I did everything I wanted in life. Director in a public company, “top earner”, successful IPO’s, but I feel like I haven’t achieved anything. This was great man! Looking forward to my 30’s now :)
Im 28 so.... I personally don't give a a f*ck how old I am to succeed, still unemployed for 2 years, also no girlfriend while still living with my parents but I'm learning new stuff such as side hustles and ways to connect with people, find a good purpose for me to get married or live my life somewhere else away from my parents if I have chance cuz... you know this inflation and the mortage prices is what keeping us stuck from what we are right now.

I feel super lucky to be able to pretty much have a one-way conversation with such an open and straight forward thinker who doesn't cover up everything in bs. you tell it how it is, you live your life on ur terms, and i love it

Why youre 30s are better 1. You are in your power alley. Most productive. Not old enough, but not too young. 2. You have built up your skillset, even if you don't know what it is early on 3. You have the resources (money) 4. You have the network (good story here) 5. Friends are way better 6. You learn what success means to you, and what you want in life. BONUS - What's NOT good 1. Health declines (slower to recover physically), but you can prevent it. 2. You're dumber (but I think he means you're less creative/risky) What NOT to do 1. Keep grinding your career treadmill. It's from capitalism - ppl that make the levels with no real thought of the implications (good WoW example). FUGAZI. 2. Stop learning new things - you make your brain dumb/brittle. 3. Don't get too comfortable. Physical shocks like "fasting" or "cold showers" help build resilience. Anti-fragility. How you feel like you're in your 20s again.
No 2 it's probably related to decline in neuroplacity and being more set in your ways. It's why younger people can make the pioneering discoverys and innovations whereas 30s are better equipped to be in investor type roles But I'm only 18 so not sure if it's an actual thing
Thanks for this, Justin! I'm only 18 and working as a junior SE. Had a feeling that I'm lagging behind a bit, some of the people I know have already started doing their semi-successful companies/are working in huge compaines for middle/senior salaries. But damn, if I'm going to be my most productive at 35 that means I have 17 years of growth in front of me. That motivates a ton lol Great video as always! Please keep doing them, your insight as a "serial" founder is really unique!
@@falkar11Everyone has stories to tell, even if you feel you didn't do anything. It might not feel important to you, but something you did with someone was important to them at one time.
Hi. Yes, the camera is out of focus. About the video: I don’t think is like that at all. I’ve met people in their 30’s 40’s and even 50’s that are exactly like your camera: out of focus. At the same time I’ve met 18-24 year old people that really knows what they’re doing. It depends a lot in how many mistakes they’ve made in their lives. Mistakes are the best school. Just my opinion. Good content always anyway.
Justin, thank you for reminding me what matters! Hearing from you that the career treadmill is bullshit means a lot to me, really reinforces what I've been suspecting the entire time. It's surreal to me to go to work everyday and almost everybody else is in the matrix, you know? They don't know none of this actually matters. Some people's egos are completely tied to their work identity and at one point I feel it happening to me too.
I am 23 and registering my own company. WOW, hearing you started at 23... I projected the entire video onto myself! Excited about what's coming next; yet, since I am in my 20s, there is still a feeling it will be just a fleeting moment xD I'm grateful for the video!
I'm pushing 40 and my life is a mess... so this is depressing. But you know what, I'm actually comfortable within myself. I agree 100% bout exercise. In your 30's you need to respect your body. You'll need regular exercise, you can't over do it and you'll quickly get decrepit if you don't. Hopefully you weren't a hard core athlete or total slob in your 20s, if you are you better get some balance quick! I know athletes who are healthy in their 40s (because they didn't push too hard) but the slobs visit hospital often. Luckily I was somewhere in between. I believe your hormones slowly start to settle down in your mid twenties and you start to gain sanity. Whether you are successful or not, provided you've taken the time for self development you'll be more accepting of yourself and as a result you'll see how you can develop further more clearly. All my plans in my 20's fell apart. In my 30's I accepted that, I'm learning new things, maybe I will start another business, maybe not. But I learned not to throw all my time, energy and money into a business that isn't viable. I ran my videography business for 16 years. They say people try ten businesses before they find one that works... that's 160 years! With your own personally tailored self development you will accept yourself for who you are and clearly see how you can make your 40's even better. Even if you're a failure like me. Yeah, I'm a failure, but it's not the end of the world. There's so much I haven't seen and done. I can finally accept that the way forward might be to do my day job as a business. But it's something that will take a lot of effort, time and money to work towards. Also, don't let yourself think you're old in your 30s. You might have another 70 years!
I thought about this a few hours ago, even. I’m 33. The upgraded confidence, experience, skills, & etc is comparable to being in your 20s vs. your teenage years in fact 🏋️♂️
I started my business venture late 20s and felt like shit because everyone else had started early 20s but if I would have started in early 20s probably wouldn’t have had the same level of maturity I needed, it’s never too late even if you’re 60
Most successful new businesses are made by people in their mid 30's due to their experience from other companies and failed past businesses. Don't worry, you were very early.
Sushmita Sen's perspective on learning new things in your 30s is valuable. It's inspiring to hear how she's challenging herself to grow and embrace physical challenges. It's a reminder to constantly push ourselves out of our comfort zones.
20s developed my skills so that at 30 I was able to build 2 7-figure companies - so yes… 30’s will be much better than your 20s if you’re developing yourself. If you’re not… then they won’t so if that’s you, develop yourself for the rest of your 30s and then your 40s will be dope 🚀
Justin, can you expand more on how we are less smart in our 30s? From some initial research, it seems cognitive decline usually begins in the 60s. I'd like to learn more about this and better understand what you're referring to.
30 - 60 is your real power alley. 0 - 30 is being a child and learning. 60+ is definitely the start of physical and mental decline depending on how well you looked after yourself throughout your life
I think people should be more focused on the journey to their goals instead of the outcome. To put it better a lot of us won't be a founder of a multi-million dollar startup. Even if it is a dream of a lot of people. So better to enjoy the journey because in the end, it does not matter anyways.
I mean, to be honest, I am not interested in working in a corporate hellhole. I would rather spend my time working from one startup to another and try to learn from each success/failure.
I was all over the place in my 20s, just turned 30 and now i am focused since i cant waste any time anymore, mature, less sensitive, tho i am broke as hell cos of bad decisions but now working 16 hrs a day 7 days a week to not be broke anymore and focus on big goals not short term pleasure
Turning 30 quite soon and I feel like I'm just starting my life. Although I kind of felt like I threw my 20s away for a CS degree, I suppose I'm still living a lot more comfortable than some of my other friends.
JKahn - been following you since Snapchat days. Very interesting to me that children/opportunity cost(benefit) of having/not having kids didn’t even make the top of the list for you to bring up. Candidly, in my personal view, feels like a huge miss. I would wager a 60 year old version of yourself would watch this video and feel similarly. Long term game with long term payoff but nothing like it. If you’re truely as open minded as you’ve claimed to be I would encourage you to do some open heart surgery on this front. No amount of DJ’ing and 4wheeling at your ranch can make up for the personal development and impact you could have with kids
I got into trouble because I watched your work from day one and you made so much noise partying at night it pissed off the neighbors. Time zones and all that. You earlier had some lady friend in a closet plus Michael and one of the white dudes clapping.
