Yes, and let's not overlook that they actually took the time. To research and create this in game lore, for this race of socially advanced people in the DA world, and literally told the audience "fuck you I'm better". I can't fathom actually taking all that lore that's been built over decades and just turning around and spiting in everyone's face saying I'm better. Rings of power all over again
tbf most of them are the "bonus" option if u choose to be trans. if u never choosed to be then u never gotten that option. though have to say its a good compilation.
Taash is such a good representation of these people. She's rude, she's not understanding, she's crude, she's socially inept, and she's fairly dimwitted too.
Sadly as someone who used to be friends with these people I can confirm. Just be glad they didn't write about deadnaming it would feel like an hour of being whipped.
she is typecast-ed as some petty villain that dies horrifically early on to just introduce the main villain. Someone made to not care about just to throw away and never thought of ever again.
Even funnier, the writer is the same kind of person that says depicting ordinary relationships between normal looking attractive characters is childish and "overt sexualization".
They were just oh so happy they were able to shove their mental issues down people's throats. Its very weird and rude, they know that, and it gives them strange sense of satisfaction. They want you to be upset, because its what they feel inside at all times because of their issues. They hate you because you are normal, there is no other reason.
"I'm non binary" "What does that mean" "That I'm neither a man or a woman" "If you're not a man or a woman then what are you" "I'm non binary" ????????????
Written by (Pa)Trick Weekes, an actual they/them. Which is strange coz this felt like it was written by someone who wants non-binaries to be disliked 😅 He wanted to wedge drama between T(r)aash and her mother to add weight and gravitas to her "suffering" and build a big finale to her arc (spoilers: the mum dies), but non-binaries have the weakest coming out stories after asexuals because people would usually just go "oh, ok, i guess." My mum said the same thing when I admitted to being asexual, she was like "cool, you can be a nun or a monk and get free lodging". T(r)aash feels like a first draft, and since DEI hype stories like these instead of critique them, temper them down for nuance, Mr. Weekes went all Mindy Kaling with his self-insert and power fantasy on how people should apologize to them and glorify their victim-ness. The whole "girls smell nice" thing T(r)aash also has is so effing creepy, like something from an omegaverse bargain bin crap (iykyk).
Veilguard got nominated for game of the year but stellar blade and space marine 2 didn’t let that sink in on how corrupt the game awards are. Edit: this is specifically the golden game awards not the other one but the corruption point still stands allowing veilgaurd here lol
I’m pretty sure from what I have seen their also depicted as being the most desirable and intimate love interest in the game like I’m pretty sure there is a scene where they push your character against the wall and asks if their interested in doing them if the player plays along.
Imo she's kinda the only problematic character in the game but she is so insufferable it makes the game a much lower score, if they got rid of this character the game would be 3 more scores above
Taash loses her mother to a violent death and in the next scene is bitching about her mother's last words for not being caring enough. That pretty much encapsulates selfishness and self-absorption better than any scene in any video game.
It accidentally captures the enby type perfectly in this game, because that Taash is constantly berating and insulting other people (even like allies in your own group) but screeches and screams whenever she feels like she doesn't get enough validation and attention. It truly shows the vast narcissism and hypocrisy of modern day genderqueer types.
To be fair, at that point that does fit with their established character: they're clearly a person that tries to cope with problems through anger. Coping with their mother's death by remembering how angry they were at her and what they hated about her IS perfectly in character. I actually like that scene because Rook is allowed to get them down from that so we then get to see that they actually do care about their mother and regret that they'll never be able to settle all these lingering feelings with her now.
The thing i find so facinating about the non- binary scene is, that the mother admits she doesn't know what it means and takes an example form already exisitng terms she can understand. "Hey maybe you feel in the wrong body. We already have and know people like that" AND the character went full wreckingball on her. Even in their own writing they show how obnoxious and intolerant they are. Instead of having a mannered discussion about it and explaining it, they show it is perfectly fine to call it out bigotry and attack another person with full force. There is no room for conversation. You have to suck it up and never question a thing about
It's so weird, imagine it in any other scenario. I am radiographer. Whats that? FUCK YOU! The mon is completly reasonable and just ask really fair questions.
I noticed that too, people who are INSISTANT they are right without listening at all to others are so insufferable. Gotta love opening your mind to a loved one to understand them only to be immediately yelled at and ridiculed. Behavior you would expect from a 15 year old, blows my mind you can put this in your game, and thats not what brings you shame.
Asmon hits the nail on the head. This sort of representation is supremely harmful and off-putting. Even if you are pro-LGBT you should not want this because it further alienates the community from everyone else. You want to be perceived as normal. Not have exceptions made for you everywhere.
I'm 100% sure that dinner scene was taken right out of one of the writers personal experiences. I am also 50% sure that writer was also wearing horns during the conversation
Nah, that's clearly a fantasy of how they wish it went. In reality the parent probably rolled their eyes and said that they know and just eat the fucking vegetables already.
MechWarrior 5 clans will give it a run for it's money... But not in the woke way, just in the pure, that's f'ing stupid, can I just get to the combat, sort of way.
I dont get the hate behind this towards the LGBTQ+ community? I get that you are mad DA is more modernized since the franchise didnt have trans or sexuality discussions before but why hate on people who do identify as non-binary or trans for that? Be mad at the devs decision behind it and leave it there. A lot of people in the LGBTQ community including myself who is gay and also some trans and non-binary also agree it is a weird decision to put these options into the DA universe where it has no place to exist in the first place. I cringed at these dialogues and I was also confused why it wasnt optional dialogues or side quests, they actually force you to go through these dialogues. They should consider everyone who will play the game isn't trans or non binary or part of the LGBTQ community and wont understand or care about it. So in a way this was a game focused for the "woke" community rather than including everyone which is also wrong.
Am I crazy or does the Mother in this scene actually seem like the more reasonable one? Even though they're trying to make her seem harsh and unreasonable.
Of course she is the reasonable one, it’s not even a question. Taash is just blurting emotional nonsense as soon as she is asked a perfectly normal question.
@@volkishelf1088 Yeah, I don't understand it, like at all. It's almost like they're pointing out the worst things about these groups of people and ironically, they don't even seem to realize it. It's crazy to me that this nonsense has even infested the market as much as it has. I swear, if I had a consulting company that advised companies and games to stay away from this stuff, in their company and their product. To not hire people who make their lives about politics, sexuality, gender, race, etc. And to also keep those things out of their games. That it would actually help make them MUCH better companies and products and much more income as a result.
This is typically how things like this go. You see it in comics, too. The villain somehow comes off as more reasonable and grounded in reality while the "heroes" are just... /LoL So Quirky and Random!/ and bitter when presented with fair arguments and questions. If you're not validating every breath and step they take in life, then you're evil to them. It's so surreal, but... Taash is a good example. Her mother? Atheist progressives can’t write good moral characters with depth that appeals universally, because they have to make up what good character is out of whole cloth and without drawing from eternal traditional archetypes. Which leads to myopia and flavor of the week cultural attitudes, pop culture references etc

Better yet, "why have you not done jackshit?!" I swear... There are so many people who just think they are entitled to attention and respect just for existing.
This hits the nail hard. Many of these people are so unhappy with themselves, and their only solace in their eyes is the validation of everyone else, including complete strangers. They don't just want it. They need it. They think it's 100% mandatory. Indifference to their plight is translated into pure hate in their minds. If you simply dont care, then it's a personal attack. Their anger and frustration are directed externally, and when they receive even the most minor amount of pushback, they lose their shit. It was never about acceptance or tolerance. It's about control and having power over people, and that's just so sad and pathetic.
It is just me or do they assume that everyone else is just magically happy with who they are? These people all seem to think they are special for having low self esteem.

Her mother always told her to never breathe fire in public, because these rare types get persecuted and turned into slaves or war weapons. Guess what she did, throw a fit and breathe fire. And I won't even mention the Bharvs. The only saving graces are either not recruiting her, which makes the game like night and day, like everyone gets along, try a No Taash Run and you'll see. Or, outright refuse her extra chromie gender and watch how for the rest of the game her and others berate and insult you until you respect her choices! Wow. I'm not even mad. They act like this in real life. It's a documentary now.
I think the implication is that because you didn't seek a romantic relationship with either of them, they started one with each other. Like Tali and Garrus in Mass Effect. Only it's worded SO unbelievably poorly so that it sounds like you forming a friendship with both of them IS made them date each other. I swear, the writing in this game is so bad they couldn't even make notifications on relationship status sound right.
@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince Yeah, that's my interpretation. Instead it should say, "Your two friends have started dating. Behold, the power of close proximity!" Obviously if you don't hit on Garrus or Tali throughout the game then both of them are single which 'allows' this to happen (because you control the game). That's what it's trying to say.

Notice the trend of sinking a high 9 figure budget just to produce dogshit fanfiction. At this point the long development time is just a way for unnecessary and useless DEI to keep getting paid

Medieval people talking like college students. Ah yes, this game reflects the writers well. They never got out of their college level mindset. Naive and narcissistic.
That's what happens when big liberal colleges are echo chambers to this nonsense, when they get to the real world they expect to dump the same garbage out into the real world. I bet in college they write English essays over these same things and teacher writes "SO BRAVE! A!"
This is unbelievable... I never thought I'd be so happy to not buy a game. This game is truly pathetic, and anyone defending it is equally or more pathetic.
Fantasy worlds are more often than not medieval just visually. Older dragon age or even baldurs gate 3 have "easy going" dialogues. I'd just say here in Veilguard they went a bit too far
How did we went from: “I am Aragorn son of Arathorn; and am called Elessar, the Elfstone, Dúnadan, the heir of Isildur Elendil's son of Gondor.” To: "I am delusional, what are your imaginations about yourself" ???

VA is too often lumped together with other failings of English performance. Writing, direction and VA all have to be in harmony for a good performance to show through. There's something going on with the vegetables, as well. This Horned chick made such an effort in another scene to impose that someone eats fruit, because they are nutritious, and yet when the mother also vies for a nutritious option, she gets displeased in accommodating her, so she shifts the conversation back to herself, so that everyone at the table must accommodate her!

The Taash character is so rude to the mother. She doesn't deserve that. She's just trying to understand. And there "he she they" go attacking her. Being hostile. That's not the answer. Gosh.
Yeah. Mother is polite, tries to undestand, brings a term present in their culture to show that it is something normalized / present for a long time, and the kid just acts like a crazy person. Like wHY dO yOU kEEP bRINGING tHAT uP, the thing I just used as a cold open for a convesation (which is also weird AF). AI would make a far better dialogue, and I am not even joking.
Exactly. Mother had a somewhat cold delivery but at the very least she was trying to understand. And heck, that's probably just because the director probably gave these people zero direction.
why is it that every time somebody writes the "i am this identity, congratulate me" scene, the parental figure is always trying to understand what they're being told - then gets treated like the bad guy for asking questions about the identity change they just learned about. i don't think that scene is inspiring the perspective the ideologue behind it *thinks* it is.
@TordenFaaret Because these people cannot comprehend that there are parents (a vast majority actually) that understands and supports their kid no matter their sexuality, non-sexuality, gender... etc. They just need and want drama, because that is what they see in Netflix shows and think that they need it to realize who they are. That they need some big catharsis with everyone around clapping their hand and congratulating them. Instead you know... just saying to themselves; oh damn, I am bi... Well whatever, it's not the center of my whole existence.
It's quite off-putting as it is, but Western entertainment is so full of ''children rebelling against bad parents'', and bcos I started focusing on East Asian entertainment ages ago, it's just night and day. Bcos in East Asian content, they wouldn't talk like that to their parents and the parents wouldn't be villainized like this. Instead, they'd try to find a different route to prove themselves.
Personally I don't even think Taash is the worst of it. The elf girl's writing is super obnoxious. I don't care about the gender identity stuff, and I think it's a bad idea to make it a big part of the game.. but man, that elf girl talks in tiktok memes, everything she says is annoying.

No, you actually start the conversation with: you know I have something very important to tell you, please can you listen to me and then slowly you come out and confess your true feelings, this writing is so bad.
Exactly this. There was no nuance, no build up, nothing. They actually could have made that scene great, but they rushed it out and this is the result.
Imagine a Qunari disrespecting her mother in front of what is basically a stranger. Wow. Sten would have sliced her in two just to undo the shame. Also, apparently their culture already has a word for an individual that is " non-binary", why not using that? Self insert much?
Not it's a summary of how SHE (whoever the writer was) handled this situation with HER real life parent. It's how almost all of these people are with these issues. I was hoping this game would be good so we'd actually get the next Mass Effect game. Now seeing what they did to this I don't even want the next Mass Effect because I already know what these shit D list or worse writers are going to do to beloved characters and races.

I SWEAR, I THOUGHT THE SAME!
The craziest part is knowing that the writer had a self-satisfied smile after all of these as if they were breaking new literary ground.
Written by (Pa)Trick Weekes, an actual they/them. Which is strange coz this felt like it was written by someone who wants non-binaries to be disliked 😅
He wanted to wedge drama between T(r)aash and her mother to add weight and gravitas to her "suffering" and build a big finale to her arc (spoilers: the mum dies), but non-binaries have the weakest coming out stories after asexuals because people would usually just go "oh, ok, i guess."
My mum said the same thing when I admitted to being asexual, she was like "cool, you can be a nun or a monk and get free lodging".

They make this Taash character seem like such an entitled insufferable bully. She's definitely a self-insert for the writers.
It's accurate writing.
I honestly thought her name was Trash when I first read it.
yeah, in this video there was a lot of "i am, i am, me me me, i am"
She literally used "they" what did she want??
To be fair, at that point that does fit with their established character: they're clearly a person that tries to cope with problems through anger. Coping with their mother's death by remembering how angry they were at her and what they hated about her IS perfectly in character.
I actually like that scene because Rook is allowed to get them down from that so we then get to see that they actually do care about their mother and regret that they'll never be able to settle all these lingering feelings with her now.
@@leila13dndwhy are you using her preferred pronouns lmao

Taash's character makes a lot of sense when you look up who wrote her.

Traash: "why do you keep picking at it!? why cant you just be happy for me!?"
Mom: "the word doesnt even exist here! what is even binary for you to be none of it!? where did you even pick that word up??"
The mom literally told her the in world word for it and still they had to keep the lecture going.
To quote Peter Griffin (and i'm only 38 seconds in):
"Who the fuck starts a conversation like that? I just sat down!"
I love this scene when he says it
"Here the vegetables, I am a fruit."
Because it’s not about understanding. It’s about making the situation all about themselves
why is it that every time somebody writes the "i am this identity, congratulate me" scene, the parental figure is always trying to understand what they're being told - then gets treated like the bad guy for asking questions about the identity change they just learned about. i don't think that scene is inspiring the perspective the ideologue behind it *thinks* it is.
All it's teaching me is maybe they all do have mental illnesses.
Writers are still pissy bc mommy told them "it is just a phase" 15 years ago 😅
"We are shitting on the game just because we don't like the woke". You can't with a straight face tell me dialogue like this can't ruin a game
It mangled it.
Personally I don't even think Taash is the worst of it. The elf girl's writing is super obnoxious. I don't care about the gender identity stuff, and I think it's a bad idea to make it a big part of the game.. but man, that elf girl talks in tiktok memes, everything she says is annoying.
Even if the game wasn’t woke it would still be a trash fire of a game.
This dialogue definitely ruins it for a lot of ppl. Takes u out of the game like the dialogue was from a TV show.
Dialogue like this won’t….. ok, you win.
My condolences for all those that pushed through this slog. Rip

@@HarryO_Possum The man in a dress? He's defo HR trained.
That Taash character doesn't feel like a character. It's a writer self-insert that was done for the sole purpose of letting the writer vent their issues out and it was done badly. That's what it feels like to me.
She definitely feels out of place

It’s not trauma dumping. It’s malicious. It’s intentional propaganda and you should call it out
Marketed directly towards children, insidious, malicious, and absolutely disgusting
It's both.
This. it's actually malicious. It's not innocent like they pretend. More people need to see it that way.
@MartinOReilly-mb4um actually the malicious actors are behind the scenes and created all these activists using some pretty fancy military technology. Literally people have no idea how an empire works still. We are seeing their foot soldiers and regime figures. You aren't seeing those who are really spreading corruption and mischief behind a technological veil
It's propaganda to the point of satire. Someone could have told me Daily wire made this and I would just believe it.
They really want “Pulling a Bharv” to be a thing, don’t they?
It's such a bullying power fantasy it's ironic how all these supposed victims of bullies and bigots want to bully everyone who disagrees with them... Hypocrites.

Is a self insert, they literally trauma dumped their experience. Also what is that writing? No one confesses such a thing to their loved ones by: hey I am this and that, end of story bye. No, you actually start the conversation with: you know I have something very important to tell you, please can you listen to me and then slowly you come out and confess your true feelings, this writing is so bad.
Very twaumatizing unnnhhh 😫💦
The writer must be a redditor. They love to trauma dump there.
Someone probably did this irl and was still met with vitriol and hatred. This game is their escapism from their traumas.
I thought mom came off very polite, wtf is her problem escalating the conversation??? It's crazy how rude she is.
They...
It is pretty much how they really are in real life.
I'm sure all Asari will be "they" and non binary or we'll get one that "identifies" as male despite the race literally not being able to be male.
Narcisism. Is so easy to see how this character is a self insert character.
Taash could have been a really interesting character, if made by competent writers. But they just used her or they, whatever, as a walking agenda.
Me, a male nurse, surrounded by women, constantly misgendered as "she".
*Before Dragon Age:* _"I don't care, I don't have time to care about this, either they apologized or not. Moving on."_

Seriously. I would get misgendered cause I had a boy hair cut. But I didn’t care cause I just wanted my check.
