I don't like the new Lexus LS so I modernized the old one

I really like the Ls, I love the retro shape and the Uz engine I believe. I walk past one on my way from school everyday and always look at its exhausts, they look cool
I had a 1990 LS400 drove it to school everyday, now I got a 1991 Toyota Celsior.

@@plowee959 yes same car, just one made strictly for the Japanese market, although the Celsior does have things an LS400 would never come with, I have a video of it on my channel.

One of the best cars ever made. I daily drive my triple black 98 GS 400 , 24 years old, I get so many compliments on it. They don't make them like they used to. Their hard to find in great shape and are definitely unicorns. Car was so ahead of it's time it was mind boggling. I got upgraded steering wheel, newer isf wheels, coilovers , spoilers, borla exhaust blah blah lol it's a head turner. 1UZFE FTW ! 🔥 That looks great btw!!! 🔥

He could’ve done more to be honest compared to his other videos the before and after on this car looks exactly the same it’s basically like someone slapped aftermarket mods to the outside of their Lexus LS new rims and a splitter the car doesn’t really look modernized at all

Whaaaat? I think the new LS500 looks great!! Mostly the graceful front end. The rear quarters look a bit bubbled out and like a fish, then the rear fascia looks good and clean.

they absolutely ruined the front lights in the facelift by removing those intricate whiskers of front DRL imo, but the fundamentals are solid to me

He complains when each car brand doesn't have its own "design identity," but then when they do come up with a unique design identity, that is special only unto them, that he doesn't agree with he complains about that too.
So maybe the LS 500 is a little overwatch, looking more like something out of a Japanese anime that a German design studio. Who cares, I like it!
3:59 I agree the 13 has this strong look to it. The single spine/buldge on the hood doesn't hurt. Its very original. Ive never seen anything like that before in those proportions.

I must say I like the 1991 best. I looks great when the grille goes all the way to the headlights, giving a cleaner look and makes the front end look wider.
This is an absolutely dope upgrade rendition. I have a 2000 LS 400 in Black and wish I could have mine redesigned to look like this in real life.

SketchMonkey, the 1990 LS on the rear pic is actually the second gen from 1998. You can see the difference in the C-pillar from the front pic. Just like the front lights, the rear lights also resembled the S-Class of then.
The rear end you showed or the ucf10 (90-94) is for the ucf20 pre facelift (95-97) the 20 had a facelift mid cycle. They are very similar regardless, but that’s why you didn’t see a big difference between the dry and second
I normally am a fan of your redesigns, it’s just a little too like a Toyota Chaser to me. I think you were going for a JDM/VIP inspired look, so it really fitted the brief.
Looks great! I love it how you take classic 80s & 90s cars and modernise them. There should be a niche market for these kind of cars.

My favorite lexus LS is the ls400s 95-97s. I like the updated grill and the lights look slightly different from the older years

If you squint your eyes, the front end of the 2007 LS vaguely resembles a Volkswagen Passat CC.

Not that it matters, but since you are so detailed with your backstory, the LS430 had two nearly identical versions: 01-03 (pre-facelift) and 04-06 (facelift). After I got one, I bumped into meme wars within the 430 community, about which version is better. Unless you know, you would have no idea.
also the 1st gen was 89-94 and 2nd gen was 95-00 with a facelift in 97

I was hoping til the last second that you would copy the L emblem from the grill onte the stars on the rims, except that it is an awesome restomod. I hope at some point real sedans will have a comeback

I have a 14 LS F-Sport I think that and the facelift 430 was peak LS design, I would love to see a redesign of the current model, I think it has potential if the design was tweaked a little, it doesn’t have the presence of the older LS’s

1:56 You got the wrong rear image for the 1990. Those lexus had those taillights on the 1995-2000 models.

please, do a redesign of the early generation Acura TL. 2000 Acura TL in specific. Honda killed it with their Acura TL line up and are kinda underrated.

with how weak muscle cars have gotten lately, this would make a great muscle sedan for lexus, just a big V8 box with strong square proportions, i do think a modern lexus looks a bit odd without the huge hourglass grill

Just a heads up the first generation rear end does not look like that. That's a second gen rear end you have next to the first gen. And you don't even have the pre face lift 2nd generation (95-98). The 99-00 was the 2nd gen face lift, not first

The “1991” rear end is not the correct.. The 91 rear end looked way different with the antenna coming out the driver rear quarter panel. That’s how you couldn’t really tell much of a difference because those are both 98 rear ends. Also, The Ls430 facelift in 04 is really more smooth than the 01-03.

It's not a modern Lexus without the spindle grille. This needs it. The other thing it needs is door handles. How am I supposed to drive it if I can't get in?
The first gen has a much more curved rear window and narrower c pillar. You compared the rear of the gen 2 to itself from the back

I love Lexus, and am a Fan of the GM, particularly the Cad/BOP divisions of the 60s. I always thought if GM had weathered the 70s and early 80s better, Cadillac and Buick would have become what Lexus is, in our recent (post OBD2) history.
It was, as if, Toyota realized the luxury divisions of GM had abandoned their original mission statement at the end of the 60s. Toyota (Lexus) just adopted the 'outdated' M/O.
PS: I often refer to my 99 Lexus GS as a Gran Sport, like the legendary Buick.
The 1998 facelift wasn't a facelift of the original 1st gen, it was a facelift of the 2nd gen, which started in 1995. it's the same as the 1998 but with a different fascia, and in my opinion it's the best looking one. The 98 redesign looks too modern. I like the 90s style of the 1995.
EDIT: the 2nd picture (the rear view of the red car) is a 1995 2nd gen, not a 1990 1st gen. They're different, it's actually pretty easy to see the differences.

I agree with your design opinion however the 1989-1994 LS's rear was never shown instead you skipped to the 1995-1997 LS, and put a the 1998-2000. Also it's notable that for the ls430 that the 2001-2003 was different than the 2004-2006

T 3:36 Toyota never copied Mercedes they are in competition with looks but they never copied Mercedes we have the “Crown, Century, Cressida & Camry to base the LS off of and the LS has a little bit of all the Toyota models i just mentioned and of course I’m gonna stand for Toyota because fan and enthusiast but I love cars in general DONT matter what brand as long as it looks good and meets my standards and I also know a lot about them and they’re story’s on the come up to where they are today Toyota has been in their own lane since the beginning and never thought about copying anyone only collaborating with them.

I agree. The new Lexus vehicles have that nasty front end and a joke of a trunk lid. Very good cars mechanically but not in style.
