I went straight to psych a month after passing nclex. Absolutey loved it. Went to the ER full time the past three months while doing psych as my per diem job because everyone didn’t needed to do at least one year of bedside care. 😒 I was so miserable in the ED. I felt everything you were describing. I think I am a very feminine woman like yourself, and women were just not meant to prosper being hard workers, and super productive 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I just accepted a full time psych RN position at a hospital and I’m still doing my psych per diem job too, and I am so much happier. I don’t leave work drained. I can actually come home and be in the mood to make a meal or go out after. I’m not on my feet the entire day. I get to sit at a desk and I don’t miss any meals/breaks. I get the satisfaction of making a difference in patient’s lives without the stress of having their literal lives in my hands for 12 hours. Make the switch girl! That or procedural nursing!

Thank you! Girl yes it is a lot. Everything you said hit the nail on the head for me. I'm a new grad, starting on an MPCU August 13th, 2023. I was a CNA for 7 years and this shit is a different ball game. I'm so mentally exhausted from high level thinking and my head hurts from staring at the computer. I do feel a big loss of identity... girl you made me cry with this, cause I feel seen and felt... because of this video I had a very real conversation with my spouse about how hard this has been for me and he gave me a lot of support ❤️🙏. Thank you for sharing your life and emotions with us!

Wow. Thank you so much for sharing. It will start to feel better once you mind adjusts to the career. You’ll still have to think but not as hard and it’ll start to become second nature with time and support of other experienced nurses. You’ve helped me as well. I wanted to change the niche of my channel but comments like these encourage me to keep sharing nursing content 💕

I graduated in May 2023. I took some needed time from May - August... I had to get my spiritual, mental, and physical health back pre- nursing school.. now I'm ready to take the NCLEX soon. Nursing isn't going anywhere, if I don't take care of me, how will I focus on my patients.. I glad I put myself first, for once. Good luck to everyone on this journey.

I am retired now from being an ICU nurse and I know exactly what you are talking about. It makes me sad to hear that nursing is so stressful even today. I hope that the medical community wakes up and starts to treat their staff better because the burn out is real. Thank you to all the nurses because I really appreciate your hard work and efforts.

Dear Sharday, thank you so much for sharing your experience. I got my first job as a RN April of this year, and as lovely and supportive as my team is, being newly qualified is so rough and isolating some times. Constantly learning on the job, getting slack for being slower than other nurses, holding so many lives in my hands alone for 12h because we're always short staffed... And i feel like I'm the only one who struggles while all my other colleagues just get on with it and still manage everything flawlessly. Thank you for helping me feel less alone 🙏🏻

I graduated in early May and passed the NCLEX a few weeks later. I start my first RN job at the end of October and I left the job I had in July. Watching this video confirms that I did the correct thing by taking a few months off to just decompress and breathe after finishing nursing school. I start my RN to BSN next month with Capella and my goal is to be done with it before starting my nurse residency position so that I don’t become too overwhelmed. Thank you so much for sharing this! Sending good vibes to you on your nursing journey ❤️❤️❤️

In my humble opinion, I think nursing students who aren't exposed to the ins & outs of nursing should consider working as a patient care tech or nursing assistant to get a feel of what you'll be in for. I know nursing is tuff I've been in the field for many years... now lpn going for bsn. I worked as a tech before becoming a nurse so i'm aware of what it's like. Working as an agency nurse, I just dread some of the places I go to.

I've been looking into nursing and will be taking my prerequisites in Spring of 2024, because of that I've been doing so much research on what I'm getting myself into. We want to be on the other side of the grind so bad, and oh, it's going to be good, but I've been hearing over and over how much grind it takes till we can get to that other side. I pray for you love! You had a lot going on at once. Right now I'm in the ADN program, fourth semester out of 5 while working as a PCT on med-surg tele for 24 hours a week and being a single Mother to a very busy 7 year old. It is not easy either because like you said it's non-stop at the hospital. And I am coming from a assisted living facility working nights where I had so much time to study. At the hospital there is no time for that even as a PCT and at home it's hard to study when your child wants that quality time with you. I cannot imagine starting a new grad program and continuing RN-BSN at the same time. I am definitely giving myself at least a 6 month to a year break after I graduate. Maybe you should consider Hospice care after your residency program. I can imagine that the hospice environment and med-surg are completely different!

Hi, thank you for asking. I’d love to clarify. I never said that I didn’t like med Surg, later in the video I expressed that I really like my job. It’s a hard job that is stressful and some days are better than others but I like it. Most of the video was to explain the lifestyle of what’s it’s like being a new grad nurse with 12 hour shifts and everything being new, and balance being harder than I expected to find. I would also like to note that most students go in thinking they’d like something until actually doing it. I hope that you know what you like and that it turns out exactly like you imagined it will.
