Several years ago my grandfather was in the hospital. The doctor came in and told my grandfather he had stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma and basically had less than 6 weeks to live.
It wasn’t him. There was someone with the same first and last name, and the same birth year and month.
Wow, that's kinda cool, but i do feel sorry for the man who has under 6 weeks left to live

I was actually the “test subject” for a student doctor doing an ultrasound, after the doctor got what they needed they asked if the student doctor could have a look, and they pointed out my bladder and ovaries (and other things I don’t remember, possibly my kidneys) to the student. I hope they’re doing well!

This video was awesome. I have to say, I really appreciate your honesty about how much time it takes to really do a patient visit correctly. I find it frustrating that appointments are only 15 minutes - especially if I have multiple things I want to ask about & discuss. I don't want to have to make multiple appointments to cover all of my questions, it's just not a realistic amount of time to properly provide the care we need.

I've had more than one of my doctors consult TH-cam during my visit or use a video to help explain something to me. I have some unusual health issues so I respect that they are honest about needing more information and spend the time to educate us both.

I went to the ER once when I had a particularly bad panic attack that wouldn't stop (I actually had serotonin syndrome from my migraine meds & antidepressants). So I'm in the triage area, literally shaking and struggling to breath, one RN is trying to give me IV fluid but I'm shaking so badly my muscles are practically convulsing so she leaves to get a different RN, meanwhile this radiology tech walks in and starts moving my bed toward the door & says "The baby seems fine but we're gonna get you to a special ultrasound machine for [insert some medical term here]" ... I kept trying to tell her I wasn't pregnant but my panic attacks and hemiplegic migraines make it almost impossible for me to manage a sentence so I'm just yelling "Nooooo wrong baaaaaby noooo" but she's confused and alarmed now because she thinks I might be having a stroke (what hemiplegic migraines can occasionally mimic in symptoms) and also pregnant so she calls out some code & a doctor rushes in, starts taking my vitals and pushing around my stomach area & asking about my pain, this whole time I'm still trying to say "I'm not pregnant" but words are hard - finally the original RN walks in and it turns out a woman named Candace McDonald (my first name is Candice) was in a small car accident and had come in to verify the baby was okay.
My GP came by later & I told him the whole thing & he's trying hard not to laugh but he says "Well telling a woman she's pregnant while she's having a panic attack is just not good practice."

My orthopedist is usually 10 minutes to 1 hour late. At first I was pissed because of this, but then my dad told that he's actually an ER orthopedic surgeon and he often has emergencies. This is to say that if your doctor is late, is not probably because he's lazing around, but because he's helping people or even saving lives. Try to remember this❤️🙏

My mom has the same first and last name as a cousin of ours. She regularly gets our cousin's mail and people trying to call her. But she also sometimes gets calls from our local clinic about appointments for our cousin's health issues or gets a reminder for an upcoming appointment with our cousin's doctor. The only time it has ever pissed her off was when the clinic called our cousin about my mom's appointment and she forgot to tell my mom, so she missed the appointment.
@Margaret Bush could be a cousin on her dads side. Or like one of those common family names like when you get named after your grandparents and such. But I get what you mean seems kinda weird if done on purpose and clearly a hassle to live with haha.
Your mom should be asking them to confirm her birthday, address, etc. i work in a massage place where people do in fact have the same names. I always confirm clients bday, address, etc. when booking to avoid situations such as this.

Yea it’s really refreshing and motivating to see someone actually be passionate about what they do and give out valuable information. Not like the other negative nancies on this platform.
I have waited for my doctor for, I kid you not, for 4 hours after my appointment time. He is always late or backed up or whatever. He is the best doctor I've had since I was a kid but I would love Dr. Mike as my doctor! He makes everything seem so fun!!

When you mentioned "making sure I ordered capsules instead of tablets", it brought up a memory for me. My late husband was suffering from esophageal cancer; he had a feeding tube directly to his stomach (could not swallow even a sip of water). The doctor (Pain clinic) wrote a prescription for liquid morphine to administer through his feeding tube. After calling from pharmacy to pharmacy, we were able to find one that actually CARRIED liquid morphine. I drove 30 minutes to fill the prescription, only to be told that they could not fill the prescription because we did not live within 5 miles from the pharmacy (?). I then had to drive back to the clinic to have them rewrite a prescription for pills I could finely crush to administer through his feeding tube. Hours wasted while my husband was in excruciating pain.
Why just why
You could have had the clinic call to verify the prescription.

I still remember when I went to doctor as a teen with knee pain and this feeling that it "pops" when i walk or bike or use it at all. I was quite a biker back then and my doc said "don't bike if it hurts" THANK YOU for your medical opinion helps a lot, haven't gone to see a doctor since, 12 years and counting. As someone with fibromyalgia, I thought the same thing with that tik tok. But when you said you would be upset if they were making fun of a patient with fibromyalgia, I was surprised and a bit emotional because I was diagnosed only 3 months ago after a decade trying to fight for answers. I've had countless doctors shame me, mock me and belittle me for my fibro. Hearing any doc validate it and treat it with respect is heart warming. Tysm for that ❤

My doctor teaches at a local medical school, and he frequently has students shadowing him. Whenever that happens I lift my arm and say, "It's hurts when I do this," and he says back to me, "Well then don't do that." Then, we both laugh while the student wonders what the heck is going on. My doctor and I are the same age, and we both grew up watching "Hee Haw."

One of the nurses often on duty when I was pregnant used to leave the gel tube on the radiator, so it was a pleasant surprise to feel it wasn't freezing on my belly.
I could have used a "name alert" sticker. I ended up with another woman's contact lenses (same first and last name, different birthday) and when I told the optician that the contacts weren't helping me see (because obviously it wasn't my perception) they told me I probably just had a fingerprint on the lens!!
It wasnt until I asked why I now had daily lenses instead of monthly (impossible with my script) when they caught the mistake!

I heard that "your finger is broken" joke in the 80's as a kid here in Finland..
There is another old one where a patient goes to the doctor and complains "When ever i drink coffee my right eye hurts". The doctor examines and does all kind of tests but can't find anything wrong. Then he offers the patient a cup of coffee to see if the problem persists. The patient takes a swig and instantly complains about the pain in his right eye and asks "Is there really nothing that helps?". The doctor replies "Take the spoon out of the cup before drinking".

Re: doctors running late. I will sit in a waiting room for hours past my appointment time to see a doctor who will listen to me, take me seriously, take the time to understand my problem, work with me, and give me the facts I need to take an active part in my own health management. That doctor is worth the wait.

Yup. My mom goes to Roswell for her cancer treatments and we always wait hours, but when she was diagnosed WE were the ones to throw off the schedules with our many questions. The doctor and nurses didn't rush us, didn't make us feel bad for taking a long time.
They could make the appointment longer then 15mins, if they know it will probably take longer. They'll over book because more people equals more money. That's my cynical side coming out

Dr. Mike is laying down wisdom that's so relatable. My dad and stepmom act like "no mistakes" surgeons, and it hurt me for the eight years I lived with them.
I’ve had my shoulder completely out of socket several times now. Almost 100% of my labrum is either misplaced, destroyed, or torn off of where it’s supposed to be. Also, toss in some Hill-Sachs deformities just for spice. All due to seizures that manifest from anxiety that I’ve been whining about most of my life. You’re spot on when you say little things add up or can grow into massive issues if not addressed immediately.
