I love going to the gym, getting a good workout, and taking care of my body. I strongly recommend exercise to all of my patients as well. That being said, sometimes things in the gym can get a little... weird. Today we take a look at some of the wildest TikToks that take place in the gym. Specifically we talk about bench press, squat, weird exercises on gym machines, hyper flexibility, racking your weights, warm ups, cool downs, PR's, max sets, clean and jerk, resistance bands, snowboarding, pink eye, dunking, vasoconstriction, dead lifting, sprained ankles, bulking, energy drinks, treadmills, and bears.
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

8:40 I was there, it was INSANE. I have never heard a sound so loud before in my life, everyone was SO happy for her. Sure, the game was far from normal gameplay, but the fact that she was able to make a basket was simply amazing. Everyone in the gymnasium was so respectful; you could hear a pin drop aside from the sound guidance and you could just tell everyone was hoping she would make a basket, then she did, and the room ERUPTED. It was so cool.
For context, this basketball game was our annual unified basketball game, which is a cool thing that allows the special needs students a chance to experience sports in a way they probably wouldn't have otherwise. Such a magical moment.
I come from a small town so I was shocked to see this on Dr. Mike's yt channel!

I ran over and lifted the bar up, after seeing that it was resting on the boy’s chest. Neither one even looked at me, lat alone said thank you. Your earliest videos (and even not-so-early, from when I started watching in late 2018) felt like I was just watching a smart doctor teach me smart things, and over time the vibe of your videos has shifted - from just watching an educational video, to making your audience feel more involved like they're hanging out with you. I heard a horror story like this but they said it was from weight lifting, not lifting too heavy or bad technique which is more likely. Unfortunately, that story made me afraid to lift weights in highschool. I could have been so much stronger. I'm just glad I got into it now at 34. Injury story:
One night last summer I was doing chest day at the gym. It was like 11pm at night (24 hour gym) and I had the place all to myself. I was doing decline dumbbell presses. I had two sets of weights. One heavy, and one lighter. I was on my 2nd or 3rd set with the lighter weights, but I had set the other weights too close to my drop zone. I was on my last rep before failure, pushing as hard as I can, then I dropped the weights down. I got my right ring finger sandwiched between the weight I was holding and the weight on the ground! Boy that hurt like a SOB! Luckily no one was around to hear the horrible expletives coming out of my mouth. I went to the bathroom to put my finger under cool water to ease with the pain. It bruised and I could barely move it. I assumed if I shook it off for a few minutes it would be fine. But it wasn’t. I cut the workout short and went home to sleep it off. I woke up the next morning and my finger was purple and even stiffer. I went to the urgent care center to have it x-rayed. Before the x-ray, the doctor walked into my exam room and said, “Bro, I don’t even have to x-ray that to tell you that finger’s definitely broken.”

  • @sirennightshade4977
    @sirennightshade4977 2 ปีที่แล้ว +162

The worst gym injury I've ever seen was a video my FIL sent to my husband. This woman was doing idk, leg presses I think (the one where you're sitting with weights pressing against your feet and extend your legs out). She was obviously pressing too much. And she had a spotter beside her, but someone else distracted him for just a moment, and that was the moment when she extended her legs out fully -- and locked her knees. The weights pressed back and bent her knees backwards, and all she could do was scream in agony. The video didn't continue far enough to see the spotter get her out, we just saw him whip around and reach for the machine before it ended.
I can only imagine the damage she sustained from that or the recovery involved.

That bit at 8:00 hurts like no other, adding weight on is worse. I power lifted in hs and was lifting after school when a football player came by and added a 25lb plate to one side while I was locked out during a bench press. I remember when I used to go to an athletic training facility, something similar happened to me like what happened to the guy bench pressing in the beginning. I was doing 415 lbs on a box squat and I had rookies in my group. My coach said I could do that weight so I decided to go with it. My group didn't set up the catch pins and I didn't notice that. After a few squats, I couldn't make it down to finish a squat and ended up folding in half (that's what my coach called it); this wouldn't have happened if my group had put the catch pins in. I was literally on the box, with the 415 lbs on my back and I'm leaning forward and no one helped me for the longest. My coach told me that if it wasn't for my very flexible back, I would either be paralyzed or dead rn.

For the best answer for you as an individual, you may want to ask your doctor.
I definitely don't recommend waiting until you're sick. My mother found out she had cervical when she was 21, and sister found out she had melanoma a few years ago. Both from check ups when they didn't suspect they were sick. They were both caught early enough that they only needed surgery, not chemotherapy, or radiation. My sister didn't even need to stay in the hospital. She only needed local anesthetic, and just has a small scar on her shoulder.

    • @Loserstakethebait

Yearly like everyone said is recommended. However, if you're in the US it's not usually economically viable. Unless you have good insurance it isn't worth wasting over a $1000 to see a doctor when nothing is wrong. Their aren't many problems that don't cause symptoms, mainly just high blood pressure. Which can be checked at home for a 1 time purchase of $20.
Edit: I hate that this is even an answer I had to give lol. Why hospitals are allowed to charge patients over 2000% of the actual costs is just disappointing and before someone says it; no it has nothing to do with capitalism. It would be corporatism if anything. But, regular doctor visits are something 50% of Americans struggle to afford so that part has to be accounted for.

POTs runs in my family. POTs I believe refers to a more chronic or 'life changing' symptoms, where your daily life is inhibited. Having the symptoms minimally is what my family refers to as just Orthostatic Hypotension, or a significant change in blood pressure due to posture changes. I have similar symptoms, but they don't inhibit me from doing the things I love like wrestling.
A whole bunch of things could cause your issues. There have been examples of POTs developing after serious viral issues, or having a connective tissue disorder, maybe a neurological defunct that inhibits control of your blood vessels, or something as simple as having big veins (I think I have the latter).
Doctors will advise you to consume salt because salt can absorb water. It helps you retain water. So the more water you retain the more blood volume you will have, thus reducing or removing your symptoms. It's the most simple solution. Make a couple changes to your diet, or commit a healthy amount of salt to each meal. If that doesn't work then talking to it about a professional won't do you harm. And if you need, there are always options and resources online.

Yep. Keep moving, put some extra time between the weight increases, stay golden. Remember the first goal is your body / health and leave the second goal for pushing prs. Cheers amd good luck on your journey man

Uhh accident while squatting can be bad. But also can be easiest to avoid by letting barbell drops on floor behind you, if there is a space. Deadlift is also very dangerous if someone is overstressing muscle. And third from my experience would be dumbbells, they can very easily overstretch deltoids and make major problems with shoulders.

It was caught on the support and all I did was have the weight drop too fast. Besides, it happened 2 months ago and I've not had one red flag or symptom

My top 2 worst injuries were rollerskating, it wasnt even when I broke my wrist, it was when a kid kicked my skate from behind, at the time I was about 5"4, I landed on my tailbone on his toestop so hard. Never went to the drs but I can't feel that area as well as I could.

Dr. Mike at 1:25 is sitting there just listing off the possibly injuries and the aftermath while I was just laughing so much at the dumb mistake. I can't help but to laugh at sudden falls like that where the only reason they happened is a dumb mistake. I even laugh at myself anytime I do something similar like when I was in ski boots, carrying my skis, and walking on an icy sidewalk way too fast. People around me were concerned at the fall until I started laughing at it myself

The guy at 6:10 is actually super impressive to me. I'm a strongman, and I've done those types of workouts to work on actually just holding the weight for when I had to do yoke carries, or to prep for a new squat PR. It helps you get comfortable with supporting massive weight like that, and helps overcome mental hurdles. It also helps for practicing actually getting the weight off of the squat rack. His legs might be skinny, but boy howdy supporting 500 lbs is no joke. 10/10

I've been in the situation where I can't get the bench press up and I was alone...I can't imagine the instinct to put it up over your head like that. I just rolled it to my belly and I was able to sit up and put one end to the floor. Sure it irritated the hell out of the skin on my chest and belly, hurt my hips a bit too, but at least I wasn't at risk of death.

Honestly fighting a doctor is the worst idea you could have. Because these people have vowed not to hurt anyone, however if they want to. They know exactly where to hit you to give you the most pain, and make it harder and harder for you to keep fighting. Without doing actual damage to you. It’s terrifying.

My gymnastics coach had a terrible gym accident the other day, she dropped a 20lb weight on her forehead, went to the doctor office and got the worst stitches I’ve ever seen, and that’s saying a lot my grandma’s a nurse. Edit: she came in to coach 2 days after and tbh I’m concerned.
